Added:It's the final night of Camp Crunch Labs, and we're enjoying a summertime snowball fight using water combined with the science you find in diapers. There's no question it's been a messy episode, but is it messy enough to get my neighbor science Bob to finally crack.
>> All right, that's it. You're all going down. They're all going down. They're all going down.
>> Welcome back to Camp Crunch Lives. I'm Mark Grover and once again, we're in my backyard. That's weird. Never seen that bush before. Unless Oh, I'm so sorry, Mark. Zack >> playing hide-and-seek with the kids and they've been looking for hours. Get the heck OUT OF HERE. WE GOT A new camp. I go check on them.
>> Yeah, arguably I do have the coolest neighbors.
All right, we've reached the final chapter in your least [music] boring summer ever. And this summer has been a doozy. We've created some pretty epic summer camp [music] memories.
[singing] [music] >> 67.
[laughter] >> There was that time that Science Bob made a game show.
>> The mic's not even plugged in.
>> What? Or that time that Zach couldn't disappear.
>> Then there was the time that Bam got covered in Orbeez.
>> And who could forget that time Bam got covered in green slime.
>> Oh, and also that time Bam got covered in blue slime.
>> Fabulous.
>> Great times. Hopefully you're having fun with your weekly build boxes or on your family vacations. Maybe you're catching frogs in the local pond or if you're in Australia doing homework because it's winter there and you're still in school.
Sorry about that, mate. Apologies if I just offended a whole country. Now, here in the past at camp, the last episode, [music] then it was too late. You have no opportunity at this point to win the platinum ticket. Or you can use a reverse video app to make a backwards video that somehow incorporates food in some delicious way. Now, I should mention after three summers of completely destroying my backyard with science, >> [screaming] [screaming] >> My neighbors along with my very expensive lawyers have let me know under no uncertain terms that I'm absolutely not allowed to do that again.
>> Oh no.
>> And since I love my neighbors and Crunch Labs lawyer Bill is very intimidating.
>> No.
>> But for the video, >> no. I think I'm going to listen to [music] them for a change, >> but only kind of.
>> Now, with that, it's time to meet our final guest of the summer, Adam. One of our delightful toy engineers. Mark, I was in the middle of a toy test with a bunch of kids.
>> That's going to be weird. You're going to be so worried. [laughter] >> Now, Adam, of course, was one of the geniuses behind Squirt in the RC Derby.
>> HE WAS PART OF the team that pioneered the disco pumpkin, famously the egg drop. He patented the [music] WBT. This is our patented wet bag technology.
>> And you're forgetting one, Mark.
>> I don't know that I am.
>> I remember a certain game of hide and seek.
>> Ready or not, here I come.
>> I know you're somewhere. [screaming] >> Wow.
>> Super cozy [laughter] under here.

But first, what is that you have on your lap, Adam?
>> Oh, this is Robo Lamp. This is a little robotic lamp you build yourself. It's a hackpack. Robo lamp can move around. It can change colors. And then if you double click the two, it goes into the happy mood.
>> A so happy.
>> But watch this. If you double click the three. Oh no.
>> Oh no.
>> It's getting sad.
>> Oh, it's sad.
>> It's the moody mood >> because it's the last Camp Crunch Labs episode of the summer.
>> But you can hit the joystick. Snaps them right out of it.
>> Okay. The good news is we have an incredible Final Camp Crunch Labs episode, so that's plenty to be happy about. But where we do need to go is over to the picnic table of unlimited summer dreams. Follow me as I follow you cuz you cut me [laughter] off.
>> Okay, what we got here?
>> We have a lot of things here, Adam. But I'll tell you what we don't have.
>> What we don't have is a pair of campers.
Campers, get on in here. Dira, Penny, how's camp been so far?
>> Good.
>> How's the camp food?
>> It's good. We don't speak of it.
>> We'll talk to the camp cooks about that because today is kind of a big deal at Camp Crunch Lab. This is the most dangerous Camp Crunch Labs episode. We are working with a substance that is responsible for thousands of injuries every summer. It's known as dihydrogen monoxide. And the thing about this very dangerous substance, in fact, I actually have some back here. Hold on.
>> You kids brought your safety goggles, right? Okay. Now, have you guys ever worked with this chemical before?
>> No. Please don't hurt us, Mark.
>> Oh, there it is. It's actually You could see. Can you see in there? What's >> so sorry.
>> No, Mark. I'M GOING TO DIE.
>> MARK, >> RELAX.
>> AH, it's just water. Dihydrogen peroxide. You know, like two hydrogens's, one oxygen.
>> Oh, H2O.
>> H2O. Like people get hurt with water.
The ocean.
>> You tricked my >> nerd joke. Okay, so the idea here is fun you can have with water. You might be like, "Water? What's the big deal?" And to answer that, we've got five demonstrations that you could do in your own backyard to show you just how big of a deal water really is. We're going to start out with a really fun one. We have a balloon filled with water. Now, what is your guys prediction when I take this very sharp blade and I poke it right in the middle of that square? just going to come spreading out.
>> You think it's going to pop the balloon and we're gonna get water everywhere?
>> It'll pop like the area that you hit, right? Cuz the electrical tape's strong.
>> I think it's gonna explode.
>> And Adam predicts it's going to explode.
>> I think it's going to explode.
>> Well, let's see.
>> This is laminer flow. Look how beautiful and perfect that is. It's not all turbulent and bubbly. It almost looks [music] frozen in time and yet it's not.
Water is actually flowing. This is something that's really easy that you could do at home. Actually, I know a build box like that. This is flow. Flow is all about laminer flow. It might look like a sponge in there.
>> Yeah, it looks like a sponge.
>> Cuz it is a sponge.
>> That makes sense. And the sponge slows down the water. Now allows all of those water molecules to kind of stack up into a single column. Like all the water molecules are just beautifully [music] moving together in unison versus all turbulent like you normally see out of a faucet. It literally looks like frozen, right? Like you can't even tell the water's moving. in yet. And check this out. So, it brought three lasers. Have you ever curved light before, Daener?
>> No.
>> Penny, have you ever curved light before? I don't know what they're doing in school these days.
>> You know what? This will look a lot better if we did in the lights. Can we get the lights down a little bit?
>> Check this out. If I take a red laser here, right, and I shine into the beam.
Ooh, it's like a light show. Check it out. See how bright it hits the ball right at the bottom.
>> Yeah, the light just curves around.
Let's see if we can get two in there.
>> Oh my.
>> Check that out.
>> You can actually see it bounce and then bounce and then bounce. That's total internal reflection.
>> Look at that >> Christmas disco.
>> Lights on. Oh, wow. That's cool, right?
And you can have one of these at home, but I saw I messing with this.
>> Science Bob, he's my neighbor.
>> You want to know how to summon him?
>> HOW?
>> SCIENCE BOB.
>> WHAT'S UP? IS >> THAT COOL? [laughter] >> I got something cool to show you.
>> Oh, cool. Come on over.
>> Kick down the fence.
>> Kick down the fence. Kick down the fence. Uh, we wanted some Kool-Aid action. Mom, >> I got a call from your lawyers and they were like, "No."
>> Crunch Labs lawyer Bill, you stay out of this.
>> No.
>> I think you're going to like this cuz I saw [music] Jovon's toy, which was really cool. I just kind of scaled it up. You got the same thing here, but now it's in a big steel canister.
>> Scaling up is always cooler.
>> All right. You want to see what it looks like?
>> Yeah.
>> All right. WE'RE FILLING UP.
>> WO! FLO.
>> Now that is laminer flow. Freaking flow.
And just [music] like Jovon's, I did put a light in here.
>> Oh, how do we turn the lights off, Penny?
>> Whoa, look at that.
Wow, that's cool. It literally looks like a [music] plastic tube. Wa!
>> Oh, yeah.
>> All right. How do you get those lights back on?
>> Very bright. Watch this. I can snap this off.
There we go.
>> Oh, there you go.
>> For our next demonstration, we'll use this giant bucket of water here. There's a pump inside, which I will turn on with a double snap.
>> It's a beautiful water feature. Now, if I take this beach ball, stick it in the water flow, >> it will fall down unceremoniously. But if I do it again, then you get really wet. We will not end this episode dry. I hate to tell you guys this. You got to kind of spin it.
ALMOST. I'M GETTING SO WET. YOU GOT THIS. Come on.
>> GOT IT.
>> WOW. SO, this is a version of the Kanda effect. You can see it's floating there and it's [music] kind of stuck in the stream. The Quanda effect is what forces the flowing water to follow the curve of the beach [music] ball, forcing it to spin while also constantly pushing the ball back into the water stream. This is a really cool trick you could actually do with like a garden hose >> and a ping pong ball and then it just tease you up.
>> Go for it.
>> And then when you're done, just like a drinking fountain.
[laughter] >> That tastes really gross.
>> This is very old water.
>> I just swallowed like a thousand mosquito lines. Turn it off.
This actually kind of reminds me of my favorite thing to do as a kid with water. So Janera, I've got a bucket of water here, right? What happens when I hold it upside down?
>> It'll like fall out.
>> You want to demonstrate [music] that for us?
>> Demonstrate it?
>> Yeah. How if you lift it up and turn it upside down, you don't? No. On [laughter] yourself. That's what you wanted me to do.
>> I JUST FELL LIKE THIS.
>> Because I feel so bad that you got wet.
>> Oh, really?
>> Because I feel like a little bit bad you got wet. Now I'm going to hold it upside down. And yet I'm going to stay very dry.
>> Whoa. Sarah, [music] what do you think's going on there? Why does that work?
>> Centrifugal force, I think.
>> Centrifugal force. That's right.
>> Oh, there you go.
>> It's Newton's first law. The water wants to keep moving where it's moving. When I get to the top, it wants to move up cuz I'm like swinging it up. But guess what's in the way?
>> The bucket.
>> The bucket. So, it's keeping it in. You can actually go pretty slow. So, you go so slow that it goes >> again. My bad. That was an accident. It was an accident. You want to try it?
>> Yeah. Throw it at Mark. IT ACTUALLY >> [laughter] >> THAT SORT OF DIDN'T WORK. OKAY, >> I got one to take it up a notch and Oh, >> what?
>> On a tray.
>> On a tray. I'm going to take it over here.
>> No way this works.
>> Never done this before. So, I'm learning from Daer.
>> Don't learn from Daer. You need to build your own obviously.
>> Three, two, one, GO.
[laughter] >> In some ways, it's more impressive to just get two out of the three.
>> Agree to disagree, Penny.
>> Let's see if Penny can do better.
>> Let's see if Penny can do I think you just got to commit, Penny.
>> We're doing a reset.
>> Okay. Okay. She's getting a feel for it.

>> Go, go, go, GO.
>> Lost the plot at the end, but that was great.
>> Way better than Adam. I think we can all agree on that.

>> So, for this one, all you need is a bucket of water and then a little bouncy ball. And this little >> Well, okay. It's kind of big. All right.
So, here's what's kind of crazy. Take both of these. You got some mortar in there.
>> Turn it over.
>> What? No.
>> Is that super glued?
>> That is not. Now, Mark, I want you to take the handle.
>> Okay.
>> And go over there and do a windmill with it.
>> This ball is not like secured to that in any way.
>> No.
>> What?
>> Oh, it's still [laughter] leaking a little bit.
>> Just a little.
>> Crazy.
>> I know. And to prove there's nothing tricky here.
It's just a ball.
>> Yeah. Yes. This is air pressure and the water kind of gets you a nice seal and it's enough with that atmospheric pressure to really keep it on there.
>> Wow. That's fascinating.
>> Just comes right off.
>> Here. Wait. Allow me >> TO DO WHAT? PENNY. NO.
>> BENNETT. [laughter] >> You guys are committed >> in my >> Yeah. Wow. Commitment to the bed. Give me some. Now, finally, it was Bob's turn to step up to the bucket.
>> This is a classic, but we just take an empty cup like this one. We fill it up with water, dihydrogen [music] monoxide, and then >> pour it on Penny's head.
>> No, because this time I got poured on my own head. It's time. Ready? Here we go.
3 2 1.
>> Yeah. So, this is water gel. [applause] But there it is. And if you've seen our science magic [music] video, you might have a little hint of what's going on.
This is the same stuff that is in diapers that absorbs liquids.
>> Not used diapers, right?
>> Preferably not. No, >> as we all know it.
>> Yeah.
>> Oh, wow. It's like a slime.
>> That was cool, Bob. But I think we could take that up a notch or three. You guys remember what you saw in this cup here?
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> Well, got a lot more of it here. So, if I take this water, you guys think it could turn this whole bucket of water solid.
Okay, that's one way to go.
[laughter] >> Oh no, he's stuck.
>> I think it works.
>> We got a problem.
>> Yeah. What happened?
>> Look at that. [screaming] >> So much of it.
>> Is that cool?
>> Yeah.
>> No. This is a great way to have a summer snowball fight. You know what I mean?

>> You're not immune to science.
