Next big round of thunderstorms arrives in Houston on Wednesday

[00:00:00]Rain chances are low on Tuesday, but they spike higher Wednesday as the next weather disturbance rolls in. I'm ABC 13 Chief Meteorologist Travis Herzog, and this is your need-to-know weather. Our rain chance on Tuesday only at 20% for an afternoon downpour, but Tuesday night, really after midnight, a line of storms expected to approach from West Texas, and that's going to blast on through here on Wednesday. Biased towards the first half of the day, but we have an ABC 13 weather watch out for that line of storms because it could produce some street flooding in addition to some stronger storms capable of some hail and some gusty winds. After those storms blow through on Wednesday, rain chances trend down pretty quickly for the rest of the week, but we may have another round of rain coming our way late Sunday, early Monday as a front rolls in right at the start of the month of June. So, Tuesday's greatest flood risk is going to be biased towards the western half of the state. That's where the storm complexes will develop late in the day, and then they push our way, and so the bull's-eye for the greatest flood risk moves into our part of Texas. That yellow shade is a level two out of four flood risk, which means that there will be scattered flash floods in that general vicinity. In the terms of how much rain comes down, well, we're looking at a decent soaking, a 1-2 in soaking across the majority of Texas, including here in Southeast Texas, and most of this is going to be falling again on Wednesday. Street flooding will be possible. Okay, here's the future track. Noon time showing storms developing out in West Texas. Those thunderstorm complexes keep rumbling towards I-35 in the evening and eventually make their way into Southeast Texas on Wednesday morning. The precise timing still a little difficult to pin down because of the nature of these thunderstorm complexes, but generally speaking, looks like the storms will blow in during the first half of the day with rain continuing into the afternoon, and then by the evening time frame, they should be moving on east into Louisiana taking the higher rain chances along with them for the rest of the week. So, Tuesday, we start off around 70, we get close to 90 in the afternoon. Wednesday, once the storms blow in, temperatures drop off into the upper 60s, and then in the afternoon, we'll only rebound to the upper 70s. So, some rain-cooled air to enjoy on Wednesday. Thursday brings a 40% chance of additional downpours with a high and back in the mid-80s. By Friday, we're hitting close to 90, and we think we'll do it at least once over the weekend ahead. Then we get to Monday. Looks like a front's going to roll in here either late Sunday or early Monday, bring a northeasterly wind to kick off the first few days of June, which are also the first few days of the hurricane season. And there will be some minor rain chances both when that front arrives and behind it as high temperatures come back down into the mid-80s.
