Manchester United is preparing for a transformative summer transfer window under interim manager Michael Carrick, with the club targeting multiple players including Ederson from Atalanta, Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, and Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, while also focusing on youth development through academy players like Shea Lacey and addressing squad depth across midfield, defense, and attack to prepare for Champions League football next season.

Man United's loan acceptance over 50 million pounds player says it all with Michael Carrick's stance clear.
Manchester United will have to make some tough decisions in the summer transfer window under Michael Carrick as they look to strengthen a squad which faces European football next season.
Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte could reportedly be allowed to leave on loan or in a permanent deal this summer after an underwhelming few seasons.
The reports come after Michael Carrick opted not to pick him for their final Premier League game of the season at Brighton on Sunday despite Casemiro not being involved.
The 25-year-old has struggled to make any impact at Old Trafford since arriving from Sporting in August 2024 for around 50 million pounds.
Signed under Erik ten Hag as a potential successor to the aging Casemiro, Ugarte has failed to adapt to the pace of English football's top flight.
The Uruguayan made 10 starts this season with United winning just one of those fixtures. Those games have included historic defeats to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup and Leeds United in the Premier League, which was only one of two defeats under Carrick.
United's then interim head coach defended Ugarte after the 2-1 defeat to Daniel Farke's side in April. The Red Devils' first loss at home to the Yorkshire side in the league since 1981.
He said, "Since I've come in and he's played and come on, he's been fine. I think tonight was a tough game, not just for Manu. It was one of those games when it was a tough night. I actually thought, especially when we went down to 10 men, that he did a lot of covering for other players to be able to attack."
But The Guardian claimed that Ugarte faces an uncertain future at M16 with the Red Devils set to sign Ederson from Atalanta. That signing is said to be one of two other midfield additions this summer, meaning Ugarte is likely to leave.
United's priority is to sign an elite-level number six to replace Casemiro with Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni and Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali among the leading targets for that role.
One player they look set to miss out on is Nottingham Forest player Elliott Anderson.
The Mirror understands that United have conceded defeat to bitter rivals Manchester City.
The Red Devils had targeted the England international as one of their main summer targets. However, United bosses are not willing to meet the asking price of around 100 million pounds.
United are also of the understanding that Anderson would prefer to join City instead of them.
It's understood the Blues remain increasingly confident of landing Anderson despite Pep Guardiola's recent departure.
Other midfielders being linked with a summer switch to Old Trafford are Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba. United have also considered a shock move for Alexis Mac Allister, but now striking a deal with Liverpool is highly unlikely.
Newcastle agree on 70 million pounds payment plan as Anthony Gordon set for new role at Barcelona.
Barcelona bosses drive hard bargain with Newcastle counterparts after beating Bayern Munich to Anthony Gordon deal and will pay the fee in installments over next 5 years.
Newcastle United have agreed to let Barcelona spread the cost of signing Anthony Gordon over the duration of his contract at the new camp, which means Barcelona will settle the initial 70 million pounds fee in installments between now and 2031.
The Spanish giants, who have debts of more than 2 billion pounds, insisted on the deal being structured like this.
Barca have outbid German giants Bayern Munich by 10 million pounds and wanted some goodwill from Newcastle in return.
Bayern CEO Jan Christian Dreesen was willing to spend 60 million pounds on Gordon, but wasn't prepared to get involved in a bidding war for the England international. Gordon is undergoing a medical in Spain having agreed a 5-year deal. The transfer includes bonuses paid to Gordon depending on what he achieves with the Spanish champions. Newcastle, meanwhile, will receive a percentage of any future sale of the 25-year-old. Everton had a sell-on clause inserted into the 45 million pound deal, which saw them sell Gordon to Newcastle, which will see them earn 15% from the winger's switch to Barcelona. Signing Gordon has cast doubt over the immediate future of Marcus Rashford. Rashford has revived his flagging career following a successful season on loan with Barcelona. Barcelona have an option to make the move permanent having agreed a 26 million pound fee with Manchester United, but considering Rashford is on wages of more than 300,000 pounds a week, signing Gordon would prove less expensive in the long run. Rashford's representatives remain relaxed about what happens next.
Talks between United and Barcelona are still taking place, and United believe Barca have the money required to sign him.
Should he return, he and Gordon likely wouldn't be in competition for a starting place.
Barcelona boss Hansi Flick is considering using Gordon as a striker next season following the departure of Robert Lewandowski.
This is something Gordan's representatives discussed with Barcelona sporting director Deco during negotiations.
There is also speculation Raphinha could leave the new camp improving Rashford's chances of remaining with the Catalan club despite scoring 55 goals in 90 games for Barca over the last two seasons.
The Brazilian turns 30 in December and Barca could look to cash in in a bid to balance the books.
Man United line up double championship transfer swoop as INEOS arrival gets to work. Manchester United are weighing up moves for a defender and midfielder from outside of the top flight as they look to improve Michael Carrick's options.
Manchester United are targeting two players who featured in the championship last season as they seek to provide Michael Carrick with greater depth for the upcoming campaign.
The club are considering moves for Southampton's Shea Charles and Leicester defender Ben Nelson this summer.
United are bracing themselves for a hectic transfer window as they prepare for Champions League football next season with their midfield pinpointed as a key area for reinforcements.
They are on the verge of securing Edson from Atlanta but are anticipated to bring in two or three midfielders as they look to shift Manuel Ugarte with Casemiro already confirmed as departing.
The 13-time Premier League champions are hoping to deliver a marquee signing with Sandro Tonali linked to Old Trafford but also wants to strengthen their squad depth across the board. They are weighing up moves for the championship pay per mail online. Charles who missed out on promotion with the Saints following the spygate scandal is valued at 25 million pounds and was recruited by United chief Jason Wilcox during his time at Southampton.
The defensive midfielder left Manchester City for St. Mary's and was reportedly regarded as a player who would prosper at the highest level.
Lester defender Nelson, 22, is also believed to be a target following the Foxes relegation. The towering defender has attracted interest from Manchester City and Lester with Enzo Maresca understood to be an admirer ahead of his expected appointment as Pep Guardiola's successor at City.
Nelson has caught United's eye and is capable of operating at left back as well as in his natural central defensive role. He would be anticipated to offer squad depth alongside United's emerging young talents.
United boss Carrick has already spoken of the significance of the forthcoming transfer window having steered the club to third place in the Premier League.
I think the beauty of the next transfer window for everybody, it's always the biggest thing in the world and the most important transfer window of all time for every club, I think, he said.
That's just the nature of how it's been created, to be honest, and I think again, as a football club, you want to keep moving forward.
We certainly do as a football club want to keep moving forward. So, I think it's acknowledged we're at this stage and the dynamics and the balance of the direction we're at, where we've ended up getting to and finishing in the league.
And there's obviously work to do. I know it's quite obvious there's certain players leaving that there's a bit of work to do. It's not any more important this one than the last one or it's what's ahead of us as a football club to try and make the most of.
Man United told to repeat transfer trick with Robert Lewandowski deal as four other moves tipped. Manchester United are expected to be busy in the transfer window with the club being told to make a move for Robert Lewandowski.
Former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster has told the club to target Robert Lewandowski in the summer transfer window and offer him a one-year deal.
The striker is available on a free transfer following the expiration of his deal with Barcelona.
The summer transfer window is expected to be busy for United with Michael Carrick preparing his side for a return to Champions League football next season.
The club are closing in on a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson.
Midfield is expected to be a priority, but there are other areas of the squad that could also do with strengthening according to Foster. The ex-stopper has picked out Lewandowski as a signing that could make the difference and thinks United should use a trick they have deployed in the past, signing players to one-year deals.
Edinson Cavani is one such example with the Uruguay striker penning a one-year contract in 2020.
"I think Man United need three or four, maybe even five players," he told Manchester Evening News.
"They need a couple of big midfielders.
They need a couple of big defenders. And if they can get a killer striker, then they will genuinely be threatening next season.
Lewandowski's on a free transfer. He's leaving Barcelona at the end of this season.
Somebody like that, Man United have got a massive history of signing these sort of players on one-year deals, just bringing that level of experience.
And I think having somebody like that come through the door, I mean, it really sets the tone for a lot of the young lads that are coming through. They get to see what the level is like. They get to see the professionalism of a Robert Lewandowski. I think they need, if they can get a couple big defenders in, they definitely need somebody to try and replace Casemiro because he's been a shining star for them this season and a killer striker for sure. United have a history of bringing big-name strikers to Old Trafford, most notably Zlatan Ibrahimović, who spent just under two seasons with the club between 2016 and 2018.
In that time, he scored 29 goals in 53 appearances in all competitions.
Lewandowski has been with Barca since joining from Bayern Munich in 2022.
The 37-year-old scored 120 times in 193 appearances for the Spanish giants.
As well as Ederson, United have been linked with several other players, including Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali and West Ham's Mateus Fernandez. The Manchester Evening News provides extensive coverage of United's academy and the academy notebook has been relaunched to offer readers the latest news, reaction, and views on the youth system. This week's edition includes an academy prediction, what Michael Carrick thinks about Shea Lacey, and an encouraging quote from Omar Berrada.
Carrick backing for Lacey.
Carrick and his backroom staff are understood to rate Lacey highly, which won't be a surprise to anyone who has watched the talented winger play for the academy. Lacey trains with the first team and has made a strong impression during sessions at Carrington, vindicating the faith put in him.
Carrick introduced Lacey from the bench in the 62nd minute against Brighton and he put an arm around the youngster before he came on.
The first team staff are aware of Lacey's ability and his next challenge is to make himself impossible to ignore during pre-season this summer, which will be a chance to audition for more senior involvement.
Lacey is understood to be in a really good place and has been backed by staff to impress this summer.
The 19-year-old will enjoy a break, but he will be itching to take the chance set to be given to him when he reports for pre-season.
An academy source recently told the Manchester Evening News that there are two or three players in the group who could make the step up to the first team on a permanent basis next season.
Lacey is among those with genuine first team credentials, but there are a few other academy players who have a strong chance of contributing to the squad in a season when the schedule will return to normal. Tyler Fletcher was given a cameo against Brighton. However, other youngsters were under consideration for the trip, namely Jim Thwaites, who Carrick named on the bench to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in April.
The prediction should excite supporters, but this summer will be huge for United and Academy players must take their chances in pre-season with both hands.
Fletcher's injury. United enjoyed a team bonding night at Greek restaurant Fenix in Spinningfields after winning their final home game of the season against Nottingham Forest, which a handful of youngsters were invited to attend.
Jack Fletcher was among the Academy representatives, but he was spotted wearing a protective boot.
The midfielder played for the U21s against Brighton in the Premier League 2 playoff final a day before the night out, and he is understood to have picked up the issue in that game. Fletcher's twin brother Tyler played for the first team on the final day of the season at the Amex Stadium, and he picked up the Denzil Haroun Reserve Team Player of the Year award, but Jack has also had a solid campaign. The 19-year-old contributed six goals and nine assists, made three consecutive appearances for the first team in December, and made four other matchday squads in the Premier League.
The only negative is that Fletcher ended the season with an injury.
Praise from Berrada. United released their third quarter financial results on Wednesday.
The numbers for each quarter are always accompanied by a quote from Omar Berrada, who paid tribute to the Academy in his most recent statement.
Reflecting on the United Academy team's seasons, Berrada said, "On the Academy side, reaching the FA Youth Cup and PL2 playoff finals is also an indication of our continued commitment to youth development."
That was recognition from United CEO for the academy whose U18 and U21 teams enjoyed successful seasons despite both just falling short in their hunt for silverware.
Aljofree departs.
It's always emotional for young players to leave United after progressing through the academy. Sonny Aljofree is the latest youth product to leave the club having recently confirmed his exit on social media.
Aljofree wrote, "After 14 years at this amazing football club, my second home, and the place I've grown from a boy to man, I can't thank the staff, players, and everybody who has helped me enough for everything they have helped me with throughout my time. I've made brothers for life.
I will always appreciate what this club have given me. I wish everybody at the club the absolute best. Ready to kick on and keep growing as a person and as a player. Once a red, always a red."
Aljofree is now looking to kick on in his professional career. Stunning 100 million pound Man United move gets green light as eight stars targeted.
Manchester United have been given a boost as they try to prize Morgan Rogers away from Aston Villa, while the Red Devils could pursue as many as eight new players in a transformative summer window.
Man United are huge fans of Rogers who put up 14 goals and 12 assists in 55 appearances for Villa this season.
The attacking midfielder even scored in the Europa League final as Villa won their first European trophy in 44 years.
Rogers has been described as United's first-choice target for the left wing position.
Given the Englishman's versatility, he could eventually succeed Bruno Fernandes in the number 10 role, too.
Morgan Rogers to Man United latest.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has confirmed that United remain keen on signing Rogers this summer, but will face competition from Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Arsenal with the Gunners described as serious contenders. Rogers is expected to leave Villa so he can test himself at one of the most illustrious clubs in the world.
A lucrative sale would also help Villa's financial situation while the 23-year-old is calm about remaining with Villa beyond the World Cup. Jacobs reports that Unai Emery's side are prepared to sell before the tournament if United, Chelsea, PSG, or Arsenal submit the right offer.
Jacobs states that Villa want 80 million pounds plus for Rogers, but we revealed on May 2nd that they will use Florian Wirtz's 116 million pounds switch to Liverpool as a benchmark.
As such, Rogers will likely cost 100 million pounds and potentially even as much as 115 million pounds.
United must watch out for Arsenal in the chase for the playmaker as sources confirmed to us on Thursday morning that Mikel Arteta's side are stepping up their interest in him.
Eight deals eyed.
Jacobs has also claimed up to seven or eight new players might join Michael Carrick's side this summer. I don't think you try and break a certain number, you just have to think about your budget, he said.
It's just whether they feel like they're getting value for money because when you're doing six, seven, eight signings in a window, there's a chance that you get a bit fleeced if you're not careful in the market.
I know people will say, I just want a number. I want to know that Man United will spend 110 million pounds on Sandro Tonali, but it's not that simple.
They'll spend above that or below that if they see value in the deal.
United are understood to be targeting two midfielders plus a center forward, left winger, left back, center half, right back, and goalkeeper.
Double swoop. We can confirm United are in advanced talks to sign Ederson from Atalanta for 38 million pounds, and Tonali could be their next midfield target.
TuttoMercatoWeb claim United are making a final push to get Ederson's transfer over the line, after which they will further pursue Newcastle's Tonali. TMW stated recently that an agreement between Man United and Newcastle for the Italy star is close.
Tonali is valued at 100 million euros, 87 million pounds, by Newcastle. That's all for today's Manchester United update. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. Which signing should United make this summer?
