When attempting to change personal patterns or behaviors, forcing oneself through domination creates unnatural, unsafe, and unsustainable change; this pattern is an ancestral legacy from historical colonization where cultures were dominated into change, and effective transformation requires meeting people where they are, basing goals on values, and driving change with clear vision rather than self-criticism.

We can't just dominate ourselves into changing our behaviourAdded:
It is unfortunately common that when we're trying to change a pattern or reach a goal, we dominate ourselves. We force ourselves into living these patterns in ways that don't feel natural, they don't feel safe, and usually they don't stick when we do it that way.
And this pattern of dominating ourselves through change is actually very colonial. It's very much an ancestral pattern. Most of our ancestors have experienced that kind of abrupt dominance-related change at some point, even if for some of us it was a lot further back than others.
And I want to bring awareness to this because as someone, as a community mentor who champions people-first change management, I do not believe that that is any way to drive change personally or on community systems level, whether that's an organization, a municipality, or something else entirely.
To integrate change on this level, we need to also know how to make that change safe, values-based, and vision-driven. And that's exactly the kind of work that I do. So, follow if you want to see more content about that kind of work, and let's make your story a vibrant one.
