Rehousing Your WORST NIGHTMARE.. My CentipedesAdded:
Oh. Oh, there she goes. Okay. Well, now she's now she's loose.
We have a very spooky rehousing today.
Two very spooky rehousings today. It's centipede rehousing day. But before we proceed into this, I did want to thank our sponsor of today's video, which is, drum roll, Tarantula Cribs. Thank you so much Tarantula Cribs for sponsoring today's video. You can use affiliate code cat 10, save 10%. There is one thing I wanted to tell you guys about.
On May 17th in Bridgen, Missouri, which is right outside St. Louis, there is the Tarantula Takeover show, which I will be there at the Tarantula Cribs booth and we are going to have some special sales.
I will be signing enclosures and hanging out. So, if you are in the area or even if you're not and you want to make a little day trip, we will be there May 17th. All right, enough yapping. I'm procrastinating. I've been procrastinating. I have not really rehoused centipedes very much, so I am a little new to this. I got these a couple months ago after handling one, which I never thought I would do. Made a whole video unboxing these and talking about it. I've really enjoyed keeping these.
These are probably my favorite centipedes that I've ever kept, and they really have changed my mind on keeping them, but they still come with challenges. And so, I put them in these enclosures first because I wanted to just monitor them and make sure they're okay. And they've been doing really well. So, I think it's time to upgrade them. And I wanted to do the circular ones because they are quite a bit bigger, of course, but also I really like the idea of them being able to kind of tunnel in a circle or like go in a circle. I don't know. It just in my head it made sense. I just felt like this would be a better option for centipedes, especially ones this size. These guys are not adults yet, but they have put on some size. They are looking good. This one's out right now. They were both out earlier, too, so I figured today was a good day to just finally do it. Got the goods today, too. We have tarantula cribs premium substrate, their arachin dirt. I love this stuff. We want to give plenty of substrate because centipedes do love to burrow. It looks like one bag fills this up quite well. And of course, we need to provide like cork and things to hide in because centipedes are very reclusive. They like to hide. So, I've got a bunch of cork here and we can just play around. I've also got some plants.
H do this. I want them to have like room to like wander, but I also want some good hiding spots. So, I think right under here is like obviously going to be a really good one. And then inside this cork, they can go right through it.
That's always good. Do I have any frog moss? Oh, I do. Sick.
Okay, so I did grab some water so we can actually soak the frog moss before using it today. This helps bend it into place better. Do I seem nervous? I am. I think I have a good method, though. Like I said, I I haven't rehoused centipedes. I haven't worked with centipedes as much as other inverts, but I feel like my method I'm about to try is going to be pretty safe for everybody and hands off.
This looks good.
I think that is quite nice. So, we have a little bit of open space. We have some moss. I got to grab a water dish. Only problem though I would say is they could definitely run right out of this. But I mean they could run out of these as well. So So the water dishes I was going to use, I think they are a little too deep. So we're just going to use these little ones for now. I'll get something shallow that looks better later, but this will work just fine for now. And of course, we should water the plant and the water dish. All right, one down.
Whenever I film videos like this too, it's like I'm very outwardly stressed and anxious and then like usually like almost every time it goes perfectly. It It couldn't have gone better. So, I'm just like stressing for nothing and then it seems like I'm hyping it up. No, I'm genuinely stressed about this. I Yeah, a rag of dirt. All right. And same thing, we're going to do some cork. Oh, this is great. This is a really good piece. I think we'll do this instead of this.
Another plant. We have a bunch of moss.
All right, that looks pretty good, too.
Oh, you know what I forgot? I forgot to put leaf litter in these.
Leaf litter.
Litter. One.
Two. I think these really look super nice for some centipedes. So, here is my method. Basically, they can't crawl up flat sides like this, and they're not tall enough to get like out. So essentially, I can poke them out hopefully and then cut them and then put them in and put the lid on. And as long as I do it all in this confined area, I don't think we have that much to worry about except them like running up the tongs or something in which case I will just drop them in there. I guess let's start off with this one first.
So this is a Skolola Pendra species white legs or the giant white leg centipede. She is super cool. I've actually really enjoyed keeping them both. They both come out a lot and I don't know if it's just because they kind of run out of hiding spots or if it's just because they're comfortable.
I'm not sure. But I do think it's time for her to get some more space. These guys, they are, you know, a bit more active. So, you do want to go bigger than this. I just kept them in smaller enclosures so I could better monitor them. Okay, she is in the cup. That was a really easy start, so I don't know.
But I'm going to try to get her to go all the way in the cup. Now, again, the problem with these guys is they are insanely quick. So, oh, see how I don't know if you can really see much of what's going on, but we are trying to just get her to go in this cup. And we've cuffed her. All right, she's already in the cup. Look at that.
Okay, so that was insanely easy. I don't know why I doubt myself so much. So, we are going to put her in this one. And I'm hoping that she just I don't want her to panic because when they panic, they run, they jump, they bounce. We're just going to do a quick little this.
There she goes. And see, look, she is looking actively for somewhere to hide.
She is not trying to hurt me. She is not being aggressive. This is honestly like a really good size for her. Oh, look at her spooky butt, though. But yeah, I feel much better about her being in this enclosure.
There she goes. I feel like that was too easy. I don't know if I just like need to stop doubting myself all the time. I feel like I get in my head so much before videos like this. Okay, so this one is the species that I actually held.
It is a Skolapendra.
Oh, I forget the name. It's like a dark version of this species. I'll put it on the screen. Again, I'm not as familiar with centipedes, so forgive me. This one was out earlier and now it's hiding, which I'm not too jazzed about because that means we have to kind of take this apart a little bit.
And that's not my favorite thing to do.
Like, they were just out. Where did they even go? I knew the other one was too easy.
You have to be careful though. You don't want them to like shoot out. You know what I'm saying? Like, there's a rock.
Definitely want to get that out.
Oh, I see her. She's over here. See her antenna? It's There she is.
All right. Oh my god. Her head popped up over here. And see, that's what I'm talking about. You have to be so careful. There she is. So, I don't know if I really want her to run out.
It might be better though if I let her come out and then just cup her this way.
Look at her go. Wa, she's so pretty.
Look at her.
So, yeah, these guys aren't really like aggressive. They're not like the aggressive like demons that we make them out to be. I just dug her up. She's scared. And look how good she's being.
She's being super calm. So, what I'm going to do is I'm not going to use my hands, but I'm going to scoot her over this. Get all this stuff out. And I'm gonna see if I can just like coax her into the new new place because she's being so calm. I might not even have to cover if I can just make space for her to make the space. Oh. Oh, there she goes. Okay. Well, now she's now she's loose. Look at her. Oh my gosh. So fast.
She's panicking now. Girly, this is going to be your new very pretty enclosure. So, she's so fast. I'm stressed.
All right, I'm going to try to keep my hands to a minimum here, cuz you saw how good she was climbing, right?
Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. This is a situation. Maybe I need something not circular for her to go into. You know what I'm saying? Because the circular thing is just not working out very well for us. I bet I could scare her into one of these little plant piece piece plant things. Okay. Right here. I want you cuz see how she like freaks out and she's like looking for somewhere to hide. If I get her to go in one of these, I can just quickly grab it and move her into there. Not with my hands. Quickly, quickly, quickly.
Okay. Is she still in there?
Oh, yep. She is. Should I try?
There you go. I just don't want her to run back out. You know what I'm saying?
Oh, no. Don't run back out. You don't want to come back out. Yeah. No. No. No. No.
No. No. No. No. No.
What are you doing?
That is not the way, girl.
Wow.
She's so pretty.
I don't want to like fight with you, bro, but like just go in there.
There you go.
There you go. As soon as she was like, "Oh, I can dig here." Okay. All right.
Well, get your get your little antennas.
This feels like when I'm trying. There we go. Okay. All right. All right. All right. This worked out really good. So, I'm very happy that we upgraded them both. I hope you guys enjoyed.
