[00:00:03]TROOPERS removed protesters from the State House during debate over redistricting legislation. The commotion forced a brief recess.

[00:00:13]Debate soon resumed after. This is not about party for me. It's about fair representation. On the House floor, Mobile representatives Barbara Drummond and bill sponsor Chris Pringle clashed over the proposal. Pringle noted the legislation only takes effect if a federal injunction is lifted.

[00:00:34]The Attorney General filed a motion yesterday asking for an emergency declaration on the appeal and it could come any day. Define what's the what's the emergency? Is the house on fire? On the Senate floor, Mobile Senator Vivian Figures also voiced her opposition.

[00:00:50]How can anyone honestly argue that this reflects fair representation?

[00:00:58]Conservative columnist Quin Hillyer criticized the special session calling it premature. I think this whole charade or this whole exercise is a charade that will be a waste of time and a waste of a lot of emotion. Hillyer says he doesn't believe Alabama will succeed in court.

[00:01:15]He argues the state's legal situation is different from Louisiana and that the Supreme Court did not overturn the ruling requiring Alabama to use a court-drawn map. That map shifted much of Mobile out of District 1 and into District 2. This whole thing is a rush to respond for partisan advantage uh that's getting way ahead of what the courts have told Alabama it can do.
