This analysis expertly isolates the original's lightning-in-a-bottle brilliance from the franchise's later decay. It serves as a definitive argument for why some cinematic mythologies are best left as singular, unrepeatable statements.

There Can Be Only ONE Highlander Movie! - Hack The MoviesAdded:
Hi everyone, Tony from Hack the Movies here and today we're talking about the original Highlander.
Should there have only been one? Let's find out today on Hack the Movie.
>> Yeah, MLOUD.
>> Talk about tapes.
>> Hello, Tom.
>> Hello, Tony.
>> Welcome back.
>> I am so happy to be back. Honestly, I'm just really grateful cuz this is the first time you had me watch a movie that didn't have Arnold Schwarzenegger in it and I'm just like super grateful.
>> Well, no, that's not true. Hot Fuzz didn't have Arnold.
>> Okay, you're right.
>> The Predator Badlands didn't have Arnold. All the Predators didn't have Arnold. Oh, after the first one.
>> Okay, fine.
>> We've done a couple of Shaun of the Dead.
>> All right, let me rephrase.
>> I think we've reviewed more movies without Arnold at this point.
>> Let me rephrase.
Okay. Thank you, Tony, for showing me a brand new movie I've never seen and actually kind of enjoyed.
>> Good. Kind of. What the All right. We're off to a bad start here. Highlanders, >> let me re-errase.
>> I get doovers, right? Like this. These You get so many doovers. I can get doovers, too. All right, >> Tony. Thank you so much for showing me this movie that I had literally never seen. I enjoyed it. I I'm glad you enjoyed it. So, um I don't remember the last the first time I watched this. Um I feel like my grandfather when it was whenever one of these were on, he would throw them on. And I think I remember I remember this one the most obviously.
And I think he used to play three whenever three came on, he would put it on. Um and I think he liked the TV show, the Highlander TV show that ran for several seasons. Had a spin-off.
>> Oh. And as I told you before, the last two movies are actually continuations of the show, not the films. You might be like, "Why is Christopher Lambear in there?" It's very confusing. I kind of grew up watching these once in a while, and I really dug them. But it wasn't until like college >> Mhm.
>> I feel like uh one of the premium channels, it was just on. I'm like, I haven't watched Highlander in a long time. And I threw that baby on and I was like, I have a whole new appreciation for this. This movie [ __ ] rules.
>> Yeah. The intro to this movie.
>> Oh my god.
>> Yes, please. Thank you. Oh my god, this movie solid. Uh, and I got like real into it in college. I'm just like, man, this movie is amazing. Um, so yeah, it is actually written by Gregory Widen, who wrote and directed The Prophecy, which I did a podcast episode recently, and then I also did a video where I found the original script for that film.
>> Oh, nice. And I talked about all the changes and then for whatever reason that did better than anything else I put out in so long. In so long. YouTube has not been kind to my channel. But for whatever that one that one broke through.
>> Sounds like more people should like and subscribe.
>> People should like, share, and subscribe.
>> They should.
>> Um, so this is like an early one that he did. This is like probably one of the first scripts he ever wrote.
>> Okay.
>> Um, yeah. Uh, lucky with him. He did like Prophecy. He did the Highlander and the Prophecy and those both got like a [ __ ] ton of sequels. He probably made a bank on residuals.
>> Oh. Oh yeah.
>> Um but yeah, he really he got the idea because he was um I think he said he was somewhere in Europe and he was going through like a weapons museum and he's just like, "Wow, I wonder what it was like to wear that. I wonder what it was like to wear that." And then he thought it was like, "What if there was one guy who wore all of these?" And he came up with the whole like immortality thing and uh sword fighting and he kind of went from there. What happens if a sword is folded over so many times?
>> Uh they got director Russell Mul uh to do this. He was a big music video director. This is like so this is like early '8s. This is like the MTV generation.
>> Oh, for sure.
>> This is when like filmmaker like uh directors and stuff are kind of like making their name with music videos and being experimental. And then Hollywood's like, "Hey, let's try to use some of that crazy. There's some really cool camera work here. a lot of cool editing on >> like very beautiful like surprisingly like I >> Yeah, >> I was very surprised. I just thought it would have been kind of mundane another movie like to kind of glance over but >> that's the other sequels. Uh >> okay, gotcha. I'll get there.
>> No, no, no. Highlander 2 had a really great transition from the opera house to the planet Zeiss.
>> Yeah, that sounds like smooth transitions.
>> I can't wait until you see the planet Zeiss. Anyway, he has not watched the sequels. No, no, this is my first foray into the whole series.
>> Um, >> yeah. So, he directed a lot of music videos. He did music videos for Duran Duran.
>> And apparently, like he did one music video for Duran Duran and then he got the job for the horror film Razerback.
>> Um, >> like the wolf. Yeah, >> I think he did that one.
>> And then he did another music video and that got him the job for this. So, Durant Durant was just getting him film work, I guess.
>> Okay. I mean, Edgar Wright started out with some stuff like that, too.
>> Pretty much. Yeah, >> that's where Baby Driver came from, actually.
>> Freaking David Fincher was a music video director before he got Alien 3 and then had his whole film career. So, yeah. Uh, he apparently Sean Connory was in the movie pretty early on. They got him really early. Uh, they wanted Arnold.
This is almost an Arnold movie, Tom. It was almost an Arnold movie.
>> God, I'd rather watch the Ruben Commando if we're going to give me an almost Arnold movie. All right.
>> U, yeah. Yeah. So, it was almost Arnold.
He turned it down cuz he wanted to play a good guy after playing the Terminator.
>> Okay.
>> So, they went through a few names and then uh the director was looking through a magazine and he saw a picture for the movie Grey Skull or Yeah, Grey Skull, which is a Tarzan movie starring Christopher Lambbear. Paul, I know I have one fan who doesn't like that I say Lambbear, >> but I watched a behind the scenes thing on this Blu-ray, and they call him Lambbear, but they also call him Kristoff, even though his name is Christopher. So now I don't know.
Anyway, look, I'm going to say Lambbear.
Screw it. He's Christopher Lambbear.
>> You can say Kristoff. I think you're close enough with >> I I feel like we're friends. Me and me and old Kristoff.
>> He He lets me call him Sea Dog.
Anyway, >> you heard it here.
>> Uh he saw a picture of uh Lambbear in this Tarzan movie because he's like ripped in that film and like the picture for that film is usually Tarzan like that.
>> And he was just like that is the guy. I need that guy. Then everyone went he doesn't speak English very well. Also has a very French Swiss Swiss accent and they're like that's okay. So apparently they all helped him with the accent.
>> Um >> uh I'm sorry. Who helped who with accent? Um, his mixed accent actually kind of works for all the present day stuff cuz you figure he's been traveling the world so many times.
>> Yeah.
>> So, it actually doesn't have to sound too Scottish because it would be mixed with everything else.
>> Yes, >> he does really attempt the Scottish accent in the flashbacks. And Sean Connory really helped him do the Scottish accent and then no one helped Shan Connory do a Spanish or Egyptian accent. He just did.
>> There was zero Spanish influence. He he >> the Spanish language didn't even look at Shan Connory for this. Like what was going on?
>> The most Scottish sounding person in this movie and he's not supposed to be from Scotland.
>> He's dressed like I almost want to see him dressed as like Zardos or whatever the heck that is with like the red like >> Excuse me. I reviewed Zardas on um Kay's channel and he did not play Zardas.
>> I don't I don't know the lore. I I saw the man Keiny and I stepped away. was Zed and he worked for the god Zardas who was actually Arthur Fra, one of the immortal. Anyway, uh they're immortals in that movie.
>> Yes, that makes sense.
>> Yeah, he's uh Egyptian Spanish. May maybe he had been living in Scotland so long he started adapting their accent and he lost all the other he was going to rebrand as a Scotsman. He was practicing. That's how he justified it.
>> Yeah.
>> Oh, wait, hold on. I was wrong.
>> Arnold did not turn down uh Mloud. He turned down the Kiran. That's why he didn't want to be a bad guy.
>> Oh, okay. I gotcha.
>> So, he turned down the Kiran and then um Sting, the singer Sting was in a movie called The Bride.
>> It was about Frankenstein, not to be confused with the new bride that came out, which was terrible.
>> Okay, I didn't see it.
>> Skip that one. Um and uh was Clancy Brown was in that film.
>> Yes, Clancy Brown. Love Mr. Craft.
>> I forget if he played the monster or not. Anyway, he was in that movie and apparently Sting knew the producers or something. and he's like, "You got to check out this Clancy Brown guy." So, he doesn't even Clancy Brown doesn't know if that's true, but that's the story he heard. Okay.
>> So, he's like, "I don't know if it's true, but it sounds good."
>> Um, so yeah, he got the part. The movie was actually almost named after him. It was going to be called the Dark Knight.
This was almost going to be called The Dark Knight.
>> Wow. Okay.
>> Because the Kirk and he's dark and he's a knight.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. I'm pretty sure someone went like like Batman. They're like, "I guess we shouldn't call it that."
Um, so they uh I love the behind the scenes. They were all coming up with like different reasons for why like the Kiran was crazy and just like cuz he killed so much and whatnot. And I like Clancy Brown's like just cuz he doesn't really do a lot of character stuff other than the church scene.
>> Yeah.
>> Which but which makes his performance even better. Oh yeah.
>> Cuz he's just bad guy who gets into sword fights, but he adds all these little quirks and details that make him like really stand out. But his like justification was like all the he decided all the immortals were lazy cuz they actually just liked being immortal and they weren't doing what they were supposed to do. So he's just like these dudes are dragging their feet. I want to win that prize. He's like he's apparently the the only immortal who's really trying to push the gathering and the prize. And I love that like makes me like it more now. Yeah.
>> His character thing is like you guys are dragging your feet. I actually want to know what this prize is. I'm going to kill all of you. Who even told them about the gathering?
>> It's mysterious, isn't it? There's a lot of mysterious origins to this.
>> Okay. Cuz I have a lot of notes just in the first five minutes.
>> Yeah. I mean, it could be like I don't know. It could be God. It could be some otherworldly thing. It could be one of the porcupine looking dudes on the planet Zeiss.
>> Could be Zeiss. Anyway, that's a thing. You're going to learn all about planet. I told I told Tom he has to watch both versions of Highlander 2. You're going to learn all about Planet Zeiss and then you're going to be told to forget about Planet Z.
>> I think that'll work just >> um >> Yeah. So, uh Clancy Brown was perfect.
Also, him and Christopher have both played Raiden.
>> Obviously, Lar did it in the 95 movie.
Yes. But the animated series Defenders of the Realm, Clancy Brown was the voice of Raiden in that.
>> That's awesome. Um, one of my favorites, >> especially given all the lightning or quickening that goes on throughout the movie. Like I kind of thought Raiden was gonna appear a little bit.
>> I like this. The apparently the director Russell said he kept the Kirkan sword >> in the interviews. He's like, "Oh, by the way, I kept the sword." He's like, "I love it."
>> It was a pretty cool sword.
>> The sword that pieces together.
>> Mhm. It was a pretty cool sword. I'm just saying. Um, the one note here is, uh, the guy he fights in the very beginning was like a really good swordsman who trained with like Arrol Flynn, who's like a famous Hollywood legend, did a bunch of swords fighting stuff.
>> Um, Lambear had to memorize all his sword fighting moves because he's basically blind. Did you know that?
>> I'm what?
>> That's why he has that far away stare in a lot of his movie. He has really poor vision. So, if you're wondering why some of his movements are kind of stiff, it's because he had to practice them because he wasn't really able to improvise because he technically can't really see that well. Oh my god.
>> So, he had to like practice every single move, then take his glasses off and then do it in the camera.
>> When did it become worth it to hire this guy?
>> That's >> I mean, after the fact, yeah, worth it.
But like, >> what was that guy thinking? He's got a cool voice and he's got that cool zoned out stare because he probably >> I can't see >> can't see >> what. Um, >> thank you Canon Films.
>> I love that Canon Films did this. A really good one from Canon.
>> Yeah.
>> Um, yeah. So, Queen, you might have noticed there were more than a couple Queen songs in this.
>> So, literally beginning of the movie, my I I heard this my eyes like widened.
Yeah. As I heard Queen coming on, I'm like, "What?"
>> So, they wanted >> Why is this so amazing?
>> They wanted to get a couple different bands involved in singers. Uh, and they turned them down.
>> Uh, but they brought 20 minutes of footage to Queen just for them to write one song.
>> Okay.
>> They just wanted one song.
>> Yeah.
>> And they were like, "Can we see the film?" Hey, we got 20 minutes got together. They loved it so much they're like, "We're going to give you multiple songs." So, they went all in. And then Michael Cayman did the score for this.
also very good.
>> Yes. And he worked with uh Brian May from Queen >> to figure out how to like transition the songs into the score.
>> That's really cool.
>> Like Prince of the Universe in the beginning, but it's like the actual song and then the wrestling match. That's like Michael Cayman like takes over.
>> I love the camera work in that too. Like what? How?
>> There's a lot of cool video stuff in this.
>> There's not a helicopter in there. Like they're doing the Evil Dead shot.
>> They had it on a on a cable and [ __ ] It was crazy.
>> But it it it broke like the 180 rule.
Like how did you have enough camera to make it? Like I I was just very impressed like the fact that I couldn't identify where the camera was coming from.
>> Style editing. They're trying new things.
>> Oh, no. It worked for me.
>> Um this movie ended up being a big hit in Europe.
>> Uh not super big here. It did okay, but it got like a cult following, which is why by the time the '9s came around, they're like, "Let's do a second one.
Let's do the show. Let's pump out these things.
>> I got you. Let's do an animated series.
Yeah, there's an animated series. They made a video game for that animated series. Wasn't very good. Uh, how do you make an animated series? How do you make a kid show where like the whole thing is like you have to chop someone's head off?
>> Yeah.
>> Then again, how they do a Mortal Kombat show where the whole thing is like all these characters need to die.
>> Why did the character do a dozen flips as he ran away? You know what I mean?
Some things don't need to be explained.
They're just cool. That's how I know that you probably watched the director's cut. Apparent the theatrical cut apparently trims out a lot of the back flips.
>> Why?
>> I don't know.
>> All of them were necessary.
>> Yeah, I was going to say he didn't really need the backflip as much as he did. It's probably slower.
>> Oh, no. That's very necessary.
>> Play to it. You know what? That's what made it so much better, though. Like, honestly, like the intro, I was like, what is this amazing that I'm watching?
I'll be honest, I was a little disappointed when we went into like PTA SD flashbacks.
>> Yeah.
>> To intro our characters. It's better than dialogue. Don't get me wrong. I will take visual storytelling over dialogue, but like >> Well, let's get into it. Let's get into it.
>> Jam jamming all the good stuff right down my throat right in the beginning.
>> Opens up Canon Pictures logo obviously and we hear Ramirez giving us a brief history of the immortals >> about how how did that sound, >> Tom? It would sound a little something like this. From the dawn of time, we came. Moving silently down through the centuries, living many secret lives, struggling to reach the time of the gathering, when the few who remain will battle to the last. No one has ever known we were among you. Until now.
HERE WE ARE, BORN TO BE KINGS.
>> We're the princes of the universe.
That song rules.
>> Yeah, it does.
>> Music video is awesome.
>> Christopher Lambbear's in the music video.
>> Uhhuh. So, I did not know. I'm a big Queen fan. I had no idea. I went into this I'm like, "This is going to be amazing." Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
>> I didn't know this is where some of these songs came from.
>> I went into this blind on purpose. I wanted a genuine reaction.
>> So, did you ever just listen to that song and be like, "Oh, they're talking about a lot of weird [ __ ] Princess of the Universe." What? What songs need to make sense? I just like how it makes me feel, you know? Why is Queen singing about living forever? They can't live forever. I'm I feel like I'm missing out some context here.
>> Live Forever, Keep Yourself Alive. You know, they got some TR.
>> Apparently, their cover of New York, New York never made it to an album.
>> Really?
>> Yeah. Well, some maybe it has. Let me know. I I couldn't find it. Yeah.
There's that one part where Kirk is singing and then Freddy Burger is like, "New."
>> Uhhuh.
>> We get to go to Madison Square Garden, >> which I was just at recently. Uh Penn Station. Um, Connor is there watching wrestling. Madison Square Garden was like a big wrestling thing in the 80s, especially with WWF. I don't know who these wrestlers actually were.
>> They look cool. Not so much the Confederate flag, but just their mullets looked really cool.
>> And I love like when the guitar starts riffing, it cuts to the wrestler like doing this with his hand. It's like he's doing it to the music. They edit it perfectly.
>> Um, but yeah, he's in attendance. And you're right there.
>> And he has got that awesome 10 mile stare going. Yeah, they had this weird like crane video. Like it's video. It doesn't look like V.
>> That's what I mean. I don't know what it is.
>> So, they like swung it around the stadium and then of course they have camera flashes. Then it cuts to him on a set in the stands.
>> Yeah.
>> But that is a really cool moment where it almost feels like there's like a force watching him.
>> It gives me Evil Dead. Oh, for sure.
It's Evil Dead vibes 100%.
>> Um, and he's watching >> The second it started to like change.
It's like axis. I'm like, "All right."
Yeah. He's watching the fighting uh in the ring. And while he's while he's watching this, he starts to see images of his past.
>> Yes.
>> In the Highlands.
>> Yeah.
>> People don't watch this movie think all the immortals are Highlanders. I'm like, "No, he was a Highlander. They weren't all Highlanders."
>> Gotcha.
>> Like people like I No, no, no, no. Just immortals. They're immortals.
>> Okay. So Connor feels something and uh it's not jealousy over that guy's cool Budweiser shirt that he walks past. I don't know if you caught glimps. Yeah, that was cool. Like I need to get me one of those Budweiser muscle shirts. I don't even drink Budweiser. It just look cool.
>> Um >> so he goes to the parking lot and he meets Facil.
>> Yes.
>> Who is that stunt man that I was telling you about who again worked on every big sword fighting thing ever. He was on Star Wars and [ __ ] He was very very popular. Um, they duke it out and I like So they're like powerful. So whenever they're like swords hit something, they have to like explode, which is cool.
>> But I do like that Connor doesn't want to kill him right away. And this is like weird cuz like we just heard that they want to fight, but he doesn't want to kill them. And then so we get like maybe there's something more to this.
>> So basically, it feels like Connor, we realize there are immortals that want to like make sure bad guys don't win. And so I think that's why Connor doesn't immediately want to kill every >> immortal. He's like, "Can we team up?"
And then Yeah.
>> Feile obviously did not want to team up.
>> No.
>> No.
>> So yeah, uh Mloud uses a katana.
>> Yeah. A Hector's Salamanca sword.
>> Yes. Yes. Which I have a knockoff here.
One of Johanna's ex-boyfriends got her this sword, which is not the sword from the movie, but kind of like the one from the movie.
And when I showed her this movie in college, she was just like, "Wait, I think I have that." And then I was like, >> "It's a very random thing to just have."
>> And then she was like, "I hate my ex.
You could just have it." And I'm like, "Okay."
>> God.
>> Now I'm like, "Now I have kind of the same sword."
>> It's close.
>> It's close enough.
>> It's pretty close. Um, so yeah, they're duking it out. And you're right, he does he does a bunch of back flips.
>> That was unnecessarily perfect.
>> But yeah, they the lighting is great in this. I love that. Like the sword the sword fighting is cool. Then you get explosions, then you get like rain inside.
>> Yeah, >> cuz they cut the sprinkler system.
>> Uh, it's just very atmospheric. It's really, really cool.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> Um, it's suspenseful cuz like Mloud like loses his sword for a bit and has to like hide.
>> Um, >> yeah. Some of the transitions are like kind of hilarious though. Like just it's >> it's very tongue and cheek for me.
>> But he wins. Connor wins.
>> He does.
>> Rips that son of a bitch's head off.
>> And that brought me to a very nice moment that I did not expect >> the >> at all.
>> YOU WEREN'T EXPECTING THE QUICKENING.
>> NO, I just saw lightning in the beginning and was just thinking this was Mortal Kombat and I messed up.
>> So yeah, when you kill I mean it's >> No, you're going to have to explain this to me because there was a little loose The quickening apparently is several things. Apparently it's the quickening is apparently like >> the force that they all kind of tap into sort of.
>> Um so basically when >> it's not like a life essence because like when they >> it's kind of that but then there's some things later on that kind of hint to what the prize might be later uh later in the film. So there is a little bit like part of the quickening is like when you feel another mortal around >> cuz that's he was at the rest of the he's like there's something here. Gosh.
>> Um, and Ramirez later on is like that sensation you felt was the quickening.
>> But then it's also like they kind of psychically can link to other things. So there's a psychic aspect to it. But yes, when you kill another immortal, you get the quickening which is all of their life essence going into you and it causes everything to explode.
>> And it looks like a Michael Jackson music video.
Dude, that first moment is cool when his headless body just floats and then you see the lightning go around the hubcap and >> all the cars turn on. So, it's very mystical, magical element. Has nothing to do with aliens from Zeiss. Anyway, uh >> it's very orgasmic explosion if if I were to >> decipher. Yeah. And then just a very good release and then everything just I'm just saying.
>> Yeah. So, uh, he gets the quickening and everything blows up around him. Yes. And I assume someone called the police very quickly.
>> I don't know who was present for any of this, but I guess if you hear an explosion, it's like we should probably call the cops or something. So, he hides his katana in the rafter, takes off.
>> Pretty clever.
>> Um, one one quick uh mention in the uh the parking lot.
>> Why is there graffiti for the Anola Gay?
>> That was one of the planes that dropped the atomic bomb. Someone just graffitied the Anola Gay on a wall and I'm like why? Why is that there? There's another graffiti that I think says the big one.
I felt like that was to someone like get someone who can put graffiti in and they're like I don't know what graffiti what people's graffiti gay. I'm like what the [ __ ] Um then he hides a sword.
Then you're right. Boom. Flashback clan mloud.
>> Mhm. And that's when I was officially started to get confused >> because I since I didn't know what a Highlander was, >> didn't know he was an immortal. I thought he I thought he could time travel.
>> Or were you watching this >> for like a minute? I thought he could time travel.
>> I thought you were watching this. You're like, when does the SUV show up? I thought there was going to be a Highlander in this.
>> No. No, but I since I didn't I've never seen it. I didn't know what was going on. I actually thought that he could time travel.
>> Nope. Nope. Nope. and he was just like zipping back from New York to the Scottish Highlands and that's why they had to tell you the date of 1536.
>> Those are flashbacks to when he was younger.
>> Yes.
>> Uh the clan mloud is getting ready to battle. He's there with his good old cousin Doo.
>> Dooall.
>> Dooall.
>> Oh, Doo. Christopher Lambear's uh Scottish accent's really funny.
>> Are you scared, Connor?
>> No, cousin Doo, I'm not.
Yeah, I didn't know the origin of him or his character. Like I couldn't I literally did not know what his accent was the entire I had no clue if it was the actor or the character. I just >> It's a blended accent. Um >> that's a great way to put it. Yeah.
>> His uh his lady is even like remember God fights on your side. She's very religious. This comes into play later.
Uh but yeah, he's like, "All right, let's let's do this. Let's go to battle.
It's going to be awesome. And then we see the Kiran.
>> Well, how come no one wanted to battle him?
>> Cuz the Kiran told them not to.
>> Oh, >> but yeah. So, I guess the Kiran cuz >> cuz he was running around. Why won't anyone fight me?
>> Yeah. He tells them >> very Tommy Wiso. I'm sorry that I kept getting those.
>> Yes, I was getting those vibes a lot.
>> So, um it's weird cuz like something has to like trigger trigger your immortality. I think you have to like die a first time.
>> So he like baby Kristoff Lamb Lamb was not an immortal.
>> Well no he was. It just hadn't been triggered yet.
>> Okay. Like superpowers but immortality.
>> Like I guess you need to die a first time.
>> It's kind of like vampires. Like you can get bit but when you die you become like a full vampire.
>> Okay.
>> So it's kind of like that. So like that's why like some people clearly die when they're older and I felt bad for those guys like Ramirez and Facil like oh man they're like wait a minute I could have done THIS IN MY 20S AND BEEN LIKE FIT forever [ __ ] I FOUND OUT IN MY 60S WHAT IS THIS [ __ ] >> well luckily he's Sean Connor doesn't have to worry >> um so yeah uh but I guess the Kiran because he's killed so many immortals I think he's a little bit more powerful more tapped into whatever this source is >> yeah Mr. Krabs.
>> Yes. Yeah, Mr. Krabs. Uh, so I think he's like able to tell like who immortals are before they even like become immortal.
>> Gotcha.
>> Uh, before it's activated. So that's why he's like, "Yeah, there's a guy named Connor. No one touches him but me."
>> But no one was going up. What's your name? Oh, thank you.
>> How they know he's these two sides are so I don't know if they've all met each other.
>> They just like passed a picture around or something. They were just like, "Guys, guys, everyone look right here."
Um, so yeah, they uh the Kirk looks metal as hell.
>> Looks so badass.
>> I don't know what that is.
>> More evil dead vibes.
>> Yes. Yeah, he really does.
>> Very, very good Evil Dead vibes.
>> Evil Ash might have taken some notes from the Kiran.
>> I don't know what that animal is that he's using for a helmet, but it's so cool.
>> Very >> um they uh actually filmed this in a bog, >> so like >> the costume people had to like insulate all their boots and stuff.
Uh but yeah, it's a fun action sequence.
Uh they're chopping away and then uh Connor gets the the sword through the stomach.
>> Mhm.
>> Uh and the Kirk tries to finish the job, but then all the good guys rush him away and I guess his men take him after the battle's won.
>> Uh but yeah, then you get that really cool video shot. It looks like a VHS camera going into the sky of him just bleeding out >> into his eyeball.
>> And then we're back in the present. He's speeding through >> Uhhuh.
>> the park garage and all the police are waiting for him. They're They got there very very fast, >> which I don't know if you noticed, but I could totally tell when the car as it went around the corner, I saw the cut.
>> Oh, you did?
>> Where it transitioned into all the police up on the road. So, like the car goes up the ramp. Yeah.
>> And then you can see just like a very slight >> just just for like a second, just a frame.
>> Yeah. It splits and then >> I don't think I ever noticed that >> it goes up into the you can see the cops like it reveals the cops over the top of the ridge if you will.
>> I never noticed that.
>> Yeah, that's what happens when you're blessed and cursed.
>> Those little details just >> Oh, well dude, like after like two years now of like editing like like go looking through work prints and versus final cuts, now I'm like watching movies differently and I'm like >> what do they trim between this this guy?
He's standing slightly different in that shot. reverse shot. What line of dialogue did they cut out?
>> Cuz what was it? I did the Mary Shel's Frankenstein from 1994 and I realized >> there's two scenes in the workprint.
>> Okay.
>> Where the monster grabs Dr. Frankenstein.
>> Yeah.
>> And in the theatrical cut they took the time between those two scenes, they cut out a whole subplot.
>> And I realized I'm like I never noticed in the wide shot the background looks one way, but in the close-up when he grabs him, it's suddenly a different background. And I never connected it before until I watch it. Now I'm watching movies like that where I'm looking for weird edits and things in the background change.
>> Oh, there's more stuff I found in this movie, even just on the first run through. But I think it it it accounts to just how good 4K can be now. Like it's >> 4K is amazing in some ways and uh it's revealing in others.
>> Um >> makes me grateful for practical effects nonetheless.
>> Yes. Uh he goes by Nash.
>> Yes, >> he goes by Nash. Also, one of the cops is John Pledo.
>> I love that.
>> I'm not used to seeing him without that weird pencil mustache he's always had.
>> That took me a minute. So, where were you first introduced to John Pito? I'm curious.
>> Jesus.
>> Jesus is who introduced you to him.
Okay. Well, so that's really early. Uh, >> no. Oh, okay. Uh, me. Uh, the big nothing.
>> I don't think I've seen that one.
>> Oh, Simon Peg since I'm obsessed. Uh, guess what? Simon Peg. Who else?
Obviously, David Schwimmer.
>> Oh, I know about that movie. I've never seen it though.
>> It's um >> very fun.
>> John Pledo, he would pop up like everywhere in the 90s. He was in The Crow. Yes, >> we were reviewing him in The Crow. And in The Crow, I talked about >> my favorite episode of the show, Millennium.
>> Really good show. It was a sister show to the XFiles.
>> There's a great episode where like he's a mobster in the 80s that other mobsters kill in the woods. Mhm.
>> And then like these forest nymphs or angels take him in and then years later the main character is with his daughter in this town and there's this legend of a thing called Littlefoot and it looks like a Bigfoot with a bald spot and long hair and there's all these pictures and then you find out he's just been living in the woods and everyone calls him Littlefoot. My god.
>> And I don't know why that's become my go-to John Pledo reference.
>> Maybe that's just how it goes. However, >> is that maybe that was your first experience and it really just stuck like a core memory.
>> So, I'm guessing the director really liked working with Pledo.
>> Yeah.
>> Because years later, he would show up in Russell Mul's tail.
Hold on.
>> He grew a tail.
>> Take two. Take two. Take two.
>> And >> but I guess the director really liked working with Pledo.
>> Yeah. because he would show up again years later in Russell Mul's Tale of the Mummy uh in the very beginning with Christopher Lee. Now, you might be saying, Tony, when are you ever going to review this? And I hope at the time of this airing, my bonus review with Cecil from Good Bad Flicks is on Patreon and available for channel members.
>> Yeah, >> because when Lee Cronin's The Mummy was coming out, I remember a fan sent me this. I'm like, there's another mummy with the director's name on it. We should d we should review it. So I did that with Cecil.
>> Okay.
>> Well, in the future I did that with Cecil. Currently filming. I have not done it yet. I'm supposed to do it tomorrow.
>> Future you.
>> By the way, >> uh one of two mummy movies this guy directed.
>> Okay. I mean sometimes people have a niche like zombies or >> I just thought it was funny. I do two zombie movies. But yeah, >> never heard of that one.
>> He shows up at the very beginning. I'm like, "Oh, it's him." He does have his mustache. Easy to identify. He has his mustache and like nothing as well.
>> They arrest him and then back in the past we see everyone mourning his death.
>> Yes, >> cuz he's just in the thing. They're like, well, clearly he's all pale. He's >> dead.
>> Connor Mloud.
>> Conor Mloud. He's dead.
>> Dead, I said.
>> Um, then we cut back to the future. Uh, in the present, we meet Brenda, uh, who's a forensic officer.
>> Yeah.
>> John Pelito tries to make a move on her and she's like, "Yeah, whatever." Uh but she's investigating the sword and she's like, "This is like super old. This is like a million dollars."
>> Yes.
>> Uh and she's like, "Okay, we got to we got to talk to that antique dealer >> cuz an she's like an antique dealer would know that this was very very valuable."
>> And I love when it cuts to him being questioning. The guy's like, "You got a funny accent. Where are you from?" And he goes, "Lots of different places."
>> That was the trailer, by the way. In some like somehow that was the trailer.
Um he denies any knowledge of these deaths.
>> Yes.
>> He's like, "No, didn't do that. Never met that guy before." And then the one cop calls him gay.
>> Out of nowhere, he's like, "Oh, you're just going down there and get some."
>> And Connor was just like, "I'm from 400 years ago before gay was invented, so no."
>> Yes, that that came across perfectly in his line delivery. I agree.
>> That's what I'm sure that's what he's implying. He's like, "It wasn't invented yet." But I can't tell you cuz I'll out myself as an immortal. a straight immortal.
>> And we don't need to talk about the Romans or any of those people. They were all >> I don't know what we're talking about, Tom. Uh, did you read different history books than I was assigned?
>> Well, I don't know where where Scottish was in the realm of like >> um I do like Butler.
>> I do like that the main detective is like, I feel like you got into a fight over the price of the sword and you chopped his head off. And then another cop is like, I bet you wanted a [ __ ] And then Conor Mloud was like, "I bet you that guy didn't like the wrestling match, so he chopped his own head off."
Like, Conor, you're not helping your case. You really should just be like, "I don't know. I was just leaving."
>> And while that's happening, I guess they can't really arrest him. They don't really have anything.
>> Uh, the Kiran arrives in the Big Apple and he's a Queen fan apparently.
>> Uh, he checks into a Sidi motel.
>> Yeah. So, so before he checked into this motel, I couldn't help but notice that this entire movie has steam vents.
>> Yeah.
>> Indoors, >> outdoors, >> just like the very like the the It looks aesthetically very pleasing, I will admit.
>> But my god, every single like why did you have interiors >> with New York fog?
>> It looked cool, Tom.
>> But it's inside to be foggy and cool, Tom. And then on the outside scenes, like they could tell they were hiding the parts of the set that like you weren't allowed to see cuz they were just pumping steam in like every dimension like the foreground, the middle, the back. Just steam. That was the lighting direction.
>> Technically, everyone should have looked like Lane from that one episode where she's in the bagel shop and it's all steamy and she comes out looking all hubba frighten.
>> Mhm. Just all steam. I'm sorry, but I couldn't help but notice.
>> That's okay. I like when he gets into his room and he assembles his sword. I don't get when he's he's spinning it and it's going on his arms like, "Hey, how is it spinning? That doesn't make any sense."
>> No, it does not.
>> How does it It's spinning like a top and he's doing it between his arms. Like, that doesn't work. Uh, but yeah, he's doing all that and then he a prostitute named Candy.
>> Yes.
>> I'm Candy. Of course you are.
>> Great delivery on that.
>> Great delivery. I know he's a little upset. He's like, I wish there was more to my character. I'm like, nah, you nailed it, buddy.
>> We're all reading it between the lines.
We know like you're pretty messed up.
>> Yeah.
>> Um Brenda does science >> on the metal from the crime scene. This is one of the I've been I've been seeing this a lot in movies that I've been covering lately.
>> Yeah, >> it's not too bad here, but there it is kind of annoying sometimes when you have to watch someone trying to figure out a mystery that we already know the answer to. So her whole subplot is her >> learning that Mloud is an immortal.
>> Yeah.
>> But we already know that. Yeah, >> she's really just there to be like a love interest and a damsel in distress.
>> Yeah, definitely the second part.
>> But they had to give her something else.
They're like, she should be investigating. And I'm like, it's fine.
>> It's not as bad as some other movies I've seen.
>> Cuz I guess it does transition to her being just the love interest and whatnot. She's there to teach Connor to love again.
>> Yes.
>> But like, yeah, the whole like her solving the mystery stuff. I'm like, yeah, but I already know. I don't really know the details. I guess she figures out the details, but she talks about like the sword being way older than she thought. She's like, "That is not She does like that whole study on it." She's like, "That can't be right."
>> Yeah. You can't fold a sword over 200 times. It just didn't exist back then.
>> Um, so Connor retrieves a sword. Yes.
>> From Madison Square Garden. He uh sees Brenda investigating the crime scene.
>> Then he follows her to a bar.
>> That's not creepy.
>> That's not creepy. And he's like dropping ants like, "Yeah, Madison Square Garden." She's like, "Are you following me?" Um, he wants to take her home. She says no. And then she follows him like a creep.
>> Yeah.
>> He's walking around. She's following him.
>> That was They They could have re redone that a little bit. Retoled it a little.
Maybe.
>> Maybe. Maybe. It works.
>> It felt very forced.
>> Yes. It was just trying to get them together.
>> Yeah.
>> Uh, but I like that he like grabs her cuz he knows the Kiran's around. The Kiran shows up like surprise.
>> He's like, "I'M IN TOWN. THOUGHT I'D say hi."
>> Yes. Uh but yeah, they fight. Uh Connor has to use the pipe. Not as effective as a sword.
>> No, >> not as effective as a sword. Um yeah, and they're like uh duking it out until you see a helicopter, police helicopter happens to be there.
>> Yes.
>> I think maybe they were follow I don't know why a police helicopter was just flying around looking for sword fights.
>> Yeah. Well, we don't know. Maybe it's like future Detroit or whatever. You know, it's just one of those things.
They just have future technology.
>> They're not in Detroit. They're in New York City.
>> Oh, sorry. They're walking here.
>> The steam vents.
>> Yes, the steam vents should be a giveway.
>> Steam everywhere.
>> All the steam vents should have been a giveaway.
>> So, that breaks up the fight. They separate. Uh then we see in the past Connor going into the tavern and everyone's JUST LIKE, "YOU'RE THE DEVIL."
>> YES.
>> Even his girlfriend, it's like, "Get out of here, Satan.
>> Burn him."
>> And they're all He's just like, "What?
I'm your family. Boole.
Uh, they all beat the [ __ ] out of him and they want to light him on fire. Like Angus is the only one that's like, "No, we'll banish him."
>> Mhm.
>> And he's like, "Thank you, Angus."
>> I thought something was going to come back from that, but it was very much just like, "Oh, I I owe you one." Yeah.
>> No, nothing. Just done.
>> Maybe maybe something got cut out. I don't know. We are watching the director's cut though. So, >> gotcha.
>> Um, but yeah, I like how he's walking with that thing. I love when he's like, "Can you walk out of here?" Or he's like, "Can you get out of here?" He's like, "I'll walk out of here." Uh, but I love that transition of him like sitting down and it transitions into the Mona Lisa. They just found a building.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> With the Mona Lisa's face painted on it.
I thought that was really cool.
>> That was cool.
>> Um, really, really cool transition. So, he's like just et from his clan.
>> Very upset about that. Um, then he arrives at his apartment/antique shop.
Uh, and he hangs out in this war room.
And I didn't notice it uh right away.
Like the first few viewings I didn't notice it, but now I see it. When he sits down, behind him is Ramirez's outfit >> display. Yeah.
>> See, I was looking at the book he was reading.
>> Yeah. No, if you see if when he sits down the first time he's in there, Ramirez's outfit is behind him. like the armor and the big hat and everything, but you haven't met Ramirez yet. So, you don't like >> you wouldn't Yeah.
>> know about, but when you rewatch, you're like, "Oh, he had Ramirez's armor there the whole time."
>> Well, fun little note, the the author on the back of that book that he's reading.
Yes.
>> From Scranton, Pennsylvania.
>> Oh, from Scranton.
>> According to the book, >> she didn't sound like she was from Scranton.
>> She did not.
>> Then again, I can't really point out I can't really pick apart accents in this one.
>> No, you can't. Nobody. She sounded like she was from America somewhere.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Not even a New York accent now that I think about it.
>> So, yeah. Uh, in the past we see that Connor got a new wife and a new home.
>> Yeah.
>> Really cool looking castle thing.
>> Mhm.
>> Uh, they try to fool around in the field and then Ramirez shows up.
>> Greetings.
>> Yeah.
>> Juan Sanchos Ramirez. We're just calling him Ramirez.
>> Yeah, it's a lot easier. I don't know what his real name was because he's Egyptian. I doubt it was Ramirez in ancient Egypt. Um, so yeah, he shows up.
He says he's a metallergologist, however you say that word.
>> Meteorologist.
>> No.
Uh, but he knows Mloud is an immortal.
And this is when like this is the first immortal he's met since becoming immortal.
>> Yeah.
>> And he like he feels the pain again.
That's like the first like, oh, they can psychically sense each other.
>> And they can also talk to deer. Yeah, I'll get to that.
>> Sorry. Yeah, sorry. My bad.
>> So, yeah, he can feel pain and then like lightning is striking him.
>> The quickening.
>> It's the quickening. We're brothers.
>> Thank you, baby.
>> Ramirez is awesome. I love Connory in this. This is so good. He >> is.
>> Um, back in the present, Brenda visits uh the detective and she says, "I want to take you out to lunch." She steals documents.
Liar. Liar. Classic woman lie. I want to take you out to lunch. They're going to steal your documents.
>> Mhm. Remember, remember, >> keep those documents safe, locked up.
>> So, yeah, she gets the file on Nash so she can figure out like where he lives and works and whatnot. Connor is looking at her book while he's sharpening his sword and then he does another flashback to training with Ramirez.
>> Yeah. Oh, that was a fun little montage.
Honestly, another really cool camera shot when they were up >> on like the mountain side. Yeah.
>> How did they get there?
>> That Yeah, they're nuts. like that that looked that looked like someone was just like hanging out of a helicopter. Like they did not they could not afford the proper like way to fasten a camera to a helicopter and it >> dude they filmed all over the highlands here.
>> But it looks still looks really good.
>> This part of the training is the boat >> where uh Ramirez has to learn what haggus is >> and I go what do you do with it? You eat it. Repuls him. Uh but yeah, I like when he knocks him over the boat uh and he's just underwater and he's just like oh I can breathe under I didn't expect that.
>> Just not drown. He just doesn't drown.
>> I like when he comes out of the water to attack Ramirez, but he's just too slow.
>> I think it would be like a spawn respawn kind of thing where like he would die by drowning, >> wake up, and then die by drowning again.
And he would just be stuck down there for like years.
>> I think that's how they say like it works for like Wolverine. They're just in a constant state of the cells dying and regenerating. So, he's constantly dying when he's underwater.
>> Okay. But yeah, that's this is where Ramirez just casually throws out I'm Egyptian >> and Spanish.
>> And I think it's the first time he calls him a Spanish peacock. I like that cuz he's wearing the peacock feather in his hat.
>> I really wish that they played more into the underwater stuff because there's even a scene later where they could be underwater and they just like >> Yeah, the sword would have moved too slow.
>> Yeah, they could have saved a lot of money though.
>> Um so yeah, he uh gives them a little bit more information. He tells him about uh they they don't really know what their origin is.
>> Yes.
>> He's like, "Why is this happening?" He's like, "I don't know. Why does the sun come up?"
>> Uh but yeah, they know that uh there will be a gathering.
>> Something will convince them to go to a far away land, which of course is America, the new world.
>> Okay.
>> Uh which either wasn't discovered or they just haven't really gone there yet.
I guess there were no immortals. I guess there were no Native American immortals cuz they were already there. or they didn't have a new land to go to. I don't know. Unless maybe they're talking specifically about New York.
>> I don't know.
>> And there couldn't be any Manhattan uh Native American immortals. Anyway, >> valid.
>> Uh so yeah, they all will be forced to go somewhere and in the end there has to be one.
>> One can only be one.
>> There can be only one.
>> Be only one.
>> And he tells him like, "Yeah, when we get the gathering, when we win, we get a prize. We don't know what it is. And the only way to lose is to lose your head.
that'll cut off your force. That's the only thing that can kill you and you're safe on holy ground. And he goes, "None of us will break that rule." But it doesn't it's not really clear like does it count for all religions?
>> Yeah. Like which religion do you follow?
>> Because if he's ancient Egyptian, that's before Christianity like far enough back. So it's like what happens where um >> Oh, please Anubis don't let us fight.
>> So I think it's just any holy ground.
Someone told me years ago who like watched the show. I don't know if this is true. I haven't even though I have season one on VHS over there. Um, apparently it's hinted at in the show that like someone immortals fought in holy ground once and that caused like Mount Vuvius to erupt. So there's like disastrous stuff that happens if you fight on holy ground.
>> So Pompei more mortal stuff. Any big like cataclysm is maybe an immortal fought on holy ground.
>> Are you trying to tell me they got rid of the dinosaurs?
>> Probably. There probably some immortal dinosaurs that fought in >> dinosaur church.
>> I like that idea. Dino church.
>> Yeah. Uh so we're learning all this information. Then we get a hint of their psychic energy because he tells them to like feel the stag. There's a nearby deer.
>> So this like shows that like whatever this immortal energy is, it kind of connects them to other living things.
again plays into the prize later on.
>> Oh, I thought you were talking about Awa >> from Avatar.
>> So, he's able to like kind of like feel the spirit of the steer and use its speed. But the way it's edited sometimes when I watch this, it takes me a minute cuz it looks like uh Ramirez turned into a deer.
>> MLOUD, COME ON.
>> And Mloud is like, I feel it. Then it cuts to the deer running with Ramirez's voice. And I'm like, oh, did he just turn into a deer? They're like, oh, no, no, no. That was just an awkward cut.
Um, so yeah, there's like some Again, I like how mysterious it is and that it doesn't spell everything out.
>> Yeah, >> like we're questioning what else can the Quickening do? And I like that we could do that.
>> Yeah, we still don't really know.
>> We don't need Planet Zeiss. Anyway, >> then we get a lot of those amazing aerial shots like you said.
>> Beautiful. Beautiful. Um, and then they talk about uh they uh they have another conversation and he starts it with now. I'm like that's not Spanish at all. That is the most white Scottish thing I've ever heard in my life.
>> That's beautiful.
>> Um >> maybe he had the same thing where he has mixed >> I'm guessing so. I'm guessing so.
>> Linguistic.
>> But you can't drop the pendo thing. Uh but yeah, I like the this section. So Connor's still in love with his wife and I love her is just like uh you got to leave her.
>> Yeah, you got to stop sing like so hard.
All right. Seriously.
>> He's like you got to be for the bros man. This is very important. Uh no women Highlanders in the show there are. But in this it's like no no ladies.
>> I'm going to go by this lord.
>> Yes. Thank you.
>> Yeah. So he tells him like no you got to like leave. He's like we're all sterile.
We can't have kids. Immortals can't have kids.
>> Um, but yeah, he's just like, "Uh, look, I once fell in love with a Japanese lady. Her dad made me this sword."
>> Yeah.
>> Uh, he's like, "I loved her so much.
Anyway, she died. I outlived her." And he's like, "You're going to outlive her.
>> Try not to have too many attachments to mortals."
>> Mhm.
>> Just good information.
>> That makes sense.
>> They kind of do that with like vampire movies and stuff. Uh, but yeah, he refuses refuses to uh leave Heather. Uh, we learn more about the Kiran and he was just like, "Yeah, he was kind of born to battle. He's the ultimate warrior." But that this is kind of like we're showing you like Ramire's like why he didn't kill Mloud.
>> Yeah.
>> He's like, "No, we got to make sure those there are some people who should not win the prize >> or like we'll all be fucked." Yeah.
>> I don't know what the prize is, but I know I don't want the Kirk to get it.
>> So that's why there's kind of like this truce and then eventually >> they will all have to fight each other.
>> Yeah. But I like that there's the whole thing like there's like factions like we're technically all supposed to go against each other. You see that in wrestling. Yeah. Like they we'll team up during the Royal Rumble, but at the end there can only be one person in the Royal Rumble.
>> So later that day, Ramirez is chatting with Heather. He's talking about some lady he was trying to woo.
>> And then he when he got there, there was a different lady and he wooed her or something.
>> But then the Kiran attacks.
>> Yes. Out of nowhere, Mr. Krabs. Ramirez.
That's pretty good.
>> Thank you. I can only do Kirk and Clancy Brown. I don't think I can do any other Clancy Brown.
>> Ramirez. No, I can't do it.
>> Um, but yeah, they uh fight. Uh, Ramirez tells him he's like, I uh killed Mloud.
>> And by the way, that's my lady over there trying to protect them.
>> Yeah.
>> Where Mloud is, I don't know. He's off buying dinner. I don't know. Uh he's returning some videotapes. Who knows?
>> Very important.
>> So, they get into like this insanely cool fight.
>> Yes. where they're taking apart the castle with cast wings.
>> So that was like uh all that was like basically styrofoam >> and they said they had like 20 guys with 80 lines of fishing wire just yanking all of that off. They could only really shoot it like one time cuz it would take it too long to set up again.
>> Oh. Oh, that makes sense.
>> Yeah. So they're like hidden there. You got that like it's clearly like a fabric backdrop.
>> Yeah. Oh yeah, definitely.
>> Kind of tell you the fog helped a little bit.
>> Yeah, you did get to see Freddy Mercury, I think, sing on top of the staircase in the video. Um, so yeah, they're duking out and I like that. So the Kiran has a scar on his neck and it's like, yeah, but they're immortal. They can heal. But I guess Ramirez cuts his neck but not demon enough toh decapitate him. But I guess it's the head is your life force.
Any injury that gets doesn't heal, right?
>> Yeah, cuz he's got like other stuff on his face. Yeah, >> everything else heals except for that cuz he almost got him.
>> Yeah.
>> Um, >> that was some fun little gurgles.
>> I fixed your voice. He says something like that.
>> Yeah.
>> Uh but yeah, so awesome awesome fight, explosions, everything. The poor WIFE IS LIKE, "AH, >> SHE'S JUST SCREAMING." I think they looped it honestly cuz like there was I think there was a good three to six seconds of not her screaming.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Um so yeah. Uh Ramirez dies.
>> There can be only one.
>> Oh wait, sorry. The bagpipe version of that is what?
the Kirkan unfortunately gets the quickening when he's on top of the staircase and then he it's just like a Looney Tunes fall.
>> Yeah, he does.
>> And then he uh what do we say on the show? He pinballs Heather.
>> Uh he gets out of there. It's implied.
You don't see it. You don't see it, but it's very implied. Uh then we cut to the future.
>> Yes.
>> Uh we see >> Back to the Future.
>> Back to the Future starring >> Michael J. Fox. Tom Hanks. I blanked on his name for a second.
>> Cuba Gooding Jr.
>> Yes. Back to the Future starring Cuba Gooding Jr.
>> Tom Hanks.
>> What a great Who who can forget the chemistry between Tom Hanks and Cuba Gooding Jr. and Back to the Future.
>> Unpalable, untouchable.
Just comedy.
>> Anyway, >> Connor, sorry Nash, >> his receptionist. Uh he's trying to get Brandon to leave.
>> Yes.
>> HE'S LIKE, "NO, MR. DASH ISN'T HERE."
And he's like, "I am actually here." And she's like, "Ah shit." Uh and Connor asks her out.
>> Mhm.
>> He asks her out. Let me find There is an awkward edit here where cuts to John Paleo telling the detective, "I was following her and she went to the thing." It's like, "Did we see that?"
>> No, I don't think so.
>> So, he's been I think they trimmed out some of him stalking her. Not stalking her, but tailing her.
>> Well, just when he looks out the window, do you see that? They show it at the >> They show it at the um >> the date. Yeah. But I guess there was more of that and they trimmed it out, but they had to like let the audience know. So they just had this one scene of him being like, "Yes, I was following her and she was there."
>> Gotcha. It's >> like, "Oh, okay." Um so yeah, ask her out. Uh Rachel is worried that uh Connor's cover might be blown. And then uh we get her backstory. That's the glass shattering. So this >> backstories. So this was her all the reason Rachel's there apparently was cut out of the theatrical cut. So >> I guess when you watch it you're like wait why does this receptionist know everything and it's like who's the receptionist?
>> Yeah. Okay. So the version I saw they definitely discussed it.
>> So we get to see it in World War II.
>> Yes.
>> Um where he I guess at some point he ended up in Germany or England or whatever. Nazis were following him.
>> Yes.
>> Uh he finds her and uh he runs away with her. Gets shot. And I like that she's like hey you're alive. And then he says that they there's a song about this where he goes, "Yeah, it's a kind of magic."
>> Mhm.
>> But the only thing is that all those bullets would have gone through him and killed her.
>> Yeah, probably.
>> She she would have died.
>> Probably. But immortal strength stopped that from happening.
>> Okay, I'll believe that.
>> Uh but I like that he grabs the gun. He like gets the one up on the Nazi and then Nazi refuses to surrender. He's like, "Whatever you say, you're the master race."
And then I guess he adopts Rachel.
>> Oh yeah, I guess so.
>> Like you're mine now. Um and she wants him to find love cuz that's basically her dad. There might be some romantic attraction there, but clearly they never crossed that line.
>> Yeah, >> because it's weird. But I guess if like you met that guy when you were a little kid and then he stayed the same age as you got older, like >> he's not really your dad. Maybe >> the flags would be. there's there's like a hint where like you know we're not going to cross that boundary but she like wants what's best for him >> and he's just like no cuz he's like other than raising her but he's just like no I don't really I'm not looking for I had the wife thing we did that before >> and yeah in that scene don't worry there was plenty of steam >> plenty of steam in that in that >> we need steam and fog everywhere >> so he arrives to the date and I like that she does have a Scottish painting this is a painting of a Scottish guy of bags. He's like, "Huh?" Um, and but by the way, he's probably gone down this before, been investigated before. So, he's just she's like getting ready and he's just like, "Okay, there's the gun and that's where I'm being recorded."
Although he talks into the recording.
>> Yeah.
>> And then Yeah. John Pledo's outside, but she doesn't know that.
>> That's like new uh to her.
>> Uh but yeah, she lies. She's like, "I work at the museum."
>> Yes.
>> Doing this. And then he brings the nice bottle of wine over. He's like, "1783 was a good year." And he describes many things as if he were there for them.
>> And then I love he blows her cup. The gift is just her book. And she's like, "Ah shit."
>> Uhhuh. Real sus.
>> He's like, "Yeah." So, uh, were you going to shoot me with the 45?
>> Yeah. How about the recorder that's over there or the guy outside that's watching us?
>> So, basically, she's just obsessed with that katana cuz she took the piece of metal from it. She's like, she's like, "That shouldn't exist. Mhm.
>> It's the wrong period. I need to know what that sword is.
>> Yeah.
>> Uh and he's like, "All you do is think about yourself." And he leaves. And then uh we get to see uh how this relationship played out with his wife, Heather. And I like that he actually stayed with her.
>> Yeah.
>> Usually when there's like this kind of story element, they have someone die or leave or something. I'm like, "No, they actually played it out like Yeah. He stayed with her."
>> Mhm.
>> Till the old age cuz she was with her every day. She didn't really look any worse to him even though he stay.
>> Yeah, she didn't. She kind of overlooked some things, I think. But >> uh how come no one in the town was like, "Hey, why is Connor still very youthful?"
>> Um >> maybe it's like a skin regimen he's doing or something like some haggus.
>> Does he come back? He's like, "I'm my own son."
Um yeah, so he stayed with her until she died and then that's when he finally left. And again, Queen's Who Wants to Live Forever is just blasting.
>> Mhm.
>> Who wants to live forever, which they used for uh Stranger Things this year, the trailer for the last season. They were blasting this one.
>> Um, >> so yeah, she she makes him promise that he'll light a candle for her on her birthday every year. Yes.
>> And then he leaves his big broadsword behind.
>> Yeah. I guess that's when Mloud died and he became someone else.
>> Steve.
>> Steve. Kevin.
>> Bill.
>> Um, >> I like Bill. Bill the warrior.
>> Bill. Bill.
>> Um, in the future he meets >> the present.
>> The present. He meets Castigar.
Uh, who is a African immortal >> samurai, >> something like that. He's a little bit of everything. He had the the >> get up.
>> Yeah. Uh did you recognize him from any other movie?
>> I didn't not. What is he in like Game of Death or something?
>> He's uh he's uh Captain Panaka in the Phantom Menace. Queen Amadala's like main security guy.
>> Literally watching that a day ago considering >> why?
>> Uh cuz it was May 4th.
>> You didn't watch one of the good ones.
There's only three good ones.
>> Yeah. I watched seven. I watched two.
And I watched nine. I watched the good Just kidding. I don't mean nine. I'm an eight.
>> Um he was also a night breed. Uh he's in a lot of stuff. He's like >> he's one of those character actors.
You'll see him in a lot of things.
>> Okay.
>> Um but yeah, so >> the movie doesn't really have to give us whole his whole information. At this point, we know it's like, okay, this is another >> that just so happens to be a friend that Mloud has had. Yeah. It's like, hey, this is another guy. But they mentioned that the last time they partied was 200 years ago.
>> Yeah. And uh we get to see we go back to Boston. Um it was in the Boston government and someone like an aristocrat challenges Mloud to a duel.
Mloud is so hammered.
>> He is f like can't even form a sentence.
I mean anyway, but >> I feel like uh any other time he would have like not let his guard down, but clearly he drank way too much. So they're dueling and he's getting stabbed over and over again. And I love that his servant has to kiss him every time. He's like, "Great, master." Boom. Um, the dude gets so pissed that his servant gives him guns, he ends up just shooting his servant out of anger because Mloud just kept getting up over and over again.
>> Uh-huh. How come he didn't bleed from any of those night? Like, >> he just heals.
>> He still bleeds, right?
>> Yeah, but he healed quickly. I don't know.
>> Okay. All right. I'm just I'm trying to gauge the Wolverine verse Deadpool level of healing. seen him with the white wig and it's all messed up. He's like, "Ah."
>> Oh, the Kirk threatens his threatens the hotel owner.
>> Mhm.
>> Never speak to me again.
>> And then he says it one more time after he speaks to him again.
>> Yeah.
>> And then he then he fights Castigagar while a crazy gun guy is driving around.
>> Yes.
>> He's like a paranoid PTSD doomsday.
>> I just like to drive around New York with an automatic machine gun. Yeah, >> he sees two people sword fighting. He's like, "WHAT'S GOING ON?"
>> I reversed my car and everything. I had to see this and get closer.
>> I did think this is funny. So, the Kiran wins.
>> Um, >> behind all the veil of smoke, he wins.
>> Yes, of course. Of course. Of course, he wins and then um the dude shoots him and that pauses the quickening. So, the Kirk comes and stabs that guy, throws him away, and then the quickening happens in front of everyone.
>> Yeah. Really badass. But another Michael Jackson.
>> Yeah. The body's floating. It's nuts.
And there's just two poor old people in the alleyway >> who stopped to watch all this.
>> Uh so yeah, after he gets the quickening, he chops at the car, throws the man out, he just drives the old I love when she's on the hood of the car.
>> I just love when he stabs a guy and then like >> throws him away with the weight of the I'm like that's not how >> that guy lives, by the way.
>> Is a Highlander. He even looked familiar. I don't know why.
>> I didn't look up where he was from.
>> He looked familiar.
>> Um but yeah, they question him cuz they think Mloud did it and the guy's like, "No, that's not him. I'll explain it all. He had a scar and everything."
>> Mhm. A very obvious scar.
>> Yes. Uh so they get a description from him, but then they >> he tells he's like, "I got to tell you some more things." And I love he's just like, "All right, mention we're looking for this guy. Don't mention any of that other [ __ ] about dead bodies floating."
>> Yeah. I love when the hot dog guy is making fun of the detective. What does incompetent mean?
Because all the news stories are like there's so many beheadings. Why isn't why aren't they doing anything?
>> And then here is uh Brenda. She's researching with another guy. So basically Mloud >> has been getting birth certificates from stillborns.
>> Yes.
>> And uh assuming their identity and creating new >> uh identities based off it. So, he has different aliases throughout the years.
>> It's one way to do it.
>> Yeah, that's not I would not have thought of that method honestly at that point. I mean, I guess he's a good guy.
He can't just like go kill someone and take their identity.
>> That would be mean.
>> That would be >> But yeah, he's just basically been finding just dead people's identities uh adopting. Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> Uh that way he has a birthday. He's like, "Yeah, I was born here."
Thoughtful. He has to get like uh birth certificates for like certain years. So yeah. So now she's like figuring it out.
She's like, "Wait a minute. He might be really old." Yeah.
>> And then they go to church >> and Mloud lights the candle for his wife.
>> He prays to her and then the Kiran comes in disguise.
>> It's like, "Well, now you you're just real more you're more noticeable. Why didn't you dress more like a normal guy?"
>> Mhm. Put like just putting bells on him.
Might as well.
>> He's putting paper clips in his neck.
>> Shaved his head. He's got a tattoo on the side of his head.
>> Yeah, I love the little chunk of hair or too that they left on there.
>> I'm in disguise. And this way, no one can recognize me. I'm like, but I just look like a different psychopath.
>> Yeah. Nobody recognized you in the beginning. That drawing rendering terrible.
>> Yeah. Um, but here's where 4K kind of portrays the movie. I could see all the seams and the makeup.
>> I could see like a flap on his neck for where the skull cap was or whatever.
>> A flap like right here. It's fine for the final fight and everything, but the church is so brightly lit that >> and because he's not moving and fighting and >> but here you're like there it is. But this is like the one scene where he really gets to act.
>> Yeah, >> he did do a little bit when he gets in the car with the old lady goes, "Mom."
>> Uh but yeah, here he's just being a dick.
>> Cuz he knows that they can't fight on holy ground, but he knows he can push his buttons and just get away with it.
He's like, "Hey, can't do anything.
Remember the rules."
>> And he's like upsetting everyone around.
Yeah. Oh, yeah.
>> But he there's a revelation here. He's like, "Yeah, I killed Ramirez and took his woman." And then he realized Mloud never knew that part. And then the Kirk realized like, "Oh, that was your wife, wasn't it?"
>> Mhm.
>> Really trying to get him pissed off.
>> Oh yeah.
>> Um I like Mloud's like, "I'll be waiting outside." He's like, "Nah, we'll see each other somewhere else." He's like, "I'm not that stupid."
>> Yeah.
Uh the I love the priest telling him to leave and he has some parting words of wisdom.
>> I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY. IT'S BETTER TO BURN out than to fade away.
>> He's such a dick.
>> He's so cool.
>> Oh yeah.
>> Uh Brenda confronts Mloud about his identity.
>> Yes.
>> And he shows her the war war room, spills the beans. She doesn't really believe him, so he's like, "Here, give me your hand."
Uh-huh.
>> It's like see >> some sepuku just >> Yeah. And he's like, "See, I'm alive."
And then she does what any logical person would do when they see a total abomination of nature. She has sex with him, which I love the behind the scenes for this. So, that whole sex scene >> that some of that was real. Yeah.
>> Maybe not penetration, but >> No, no, no. Well, they talked about what they were going to do. They like discussed it beforehand, but they said it was like the most awkward thing to film because there was no audio. It was all with a telephoto lens. But the warehouse that they were in, like they were in this like little loft area filming it, >> but there were people moving things out of the warehouse that they were shooting in.
>> So the whole time they're filming these like sex scenes and like people were just packing up stuff and making all this.
>> You just hear furniture moving.
>> Yeah. Cuz there's no audio that day. So everyone's just moving stuff. I don't think they could see them where they were. But they're like, she was like, "That was just the weirdest thing, like having to do all the sexy just hearing guys just lugging stuff out." So the next day he's basically like, "Hey, you got to stay away from me. There's a lot going on."
>> Oh, yeah.
>> We're having this conversation at the zoo so we can get lines in this movie.
He's like, "You got to stay away. Uh, she goes back to her apartment. Kiran arrives."
>> This scene is awesome. The music matching all the cuts. That cool red light for no reason. The camera moving with the C. It was >> It was like a music video. It was awesome.
>> It was.
>> And then he takes her for a joy ride all throughout New York.
>> Yeah.
>> And he is the most reckless driver in history.
>> Yeah.
>> He's up there.
>> He doesn't care.
>> Yeah. Well, yeah. He's immortal.
>> He'll live.
>> Yeah.
>> Now, that does beg.
>> Would you drive like that? Cuz honestly, I would.
>> I don't know if they ever explore in the show or anything.
>> I'd buy a Hummer.
>> What happens if like an immortal's like in an accident and gets decapitated?
Where's the quickening go? Just into the ether or >> maybe it's like Green Lantern. Like whoever deserves it this year by >> the most >> the most deserving nearby who's trying to lay low is like at his office job and he goes, >> "OH GOD DAMN IT AGAIN."
>> Uh but yeah, he's driving all around.
He's causing accidents left and right.
And then he sings New York, New York.
I I I would do the same. I'll be honest.
>> Really really cool. He leaves a little voicemail for Connor. He's like, "Hey, buddy.
Can Mloud come out to play?" It's like Spider-Man.
>> Yes. See, I was thinking Warriors.
>> Warrior. Yeah, that's a good one, too.
>> Come out to play.
>> But basically, he's like, "Yeah, I got the girl. You're going to have to meet me. You're going to have to meet me."
And this is a sad moment. Connor tells Rachel, he's like, "Hey, uh, Power of Attorney is in this. You get everything." She's like, "You're not coming back even if you win." And he's just like, "We always knew what we get here." And also, he's like, "Also, my cover's like super blown and you work for me, and it's going to be a whole thing. Uh, go off on your own."
>> Mhm.
>> Uh, but yeah, he gives her a kiss by And then he calls back. He's just like, "Hey, it's a kind of magic."
>> So, I thought it was a nice That's again, it's basically her dad.
>> It's a cute little nod.
>> Yeah. Uh, left her everything. Mhm.
>> She dies in Highlander Endgame. I think she gets blown up.
>> I'm sorry. High is that Highlander 6.
Four. Sorry. Okay. I >> Which again is in the parallel universe of the TV show where Connor does exist, but he never won the prize. And there's also like a million immortals.
>> Oh, okay.
>> Then then he comes back in Endgame. And Endgame has a lot of references to the first movie, but the first movie technically it doesn't exist. It's very confusing. It's very confusing. See, I just imagined him and then like >> Sam Wilson on your left, but like when you said Endgame, but I'm I'm in a different >> four has immortals get killed in holy ground and nothing happens. People really hated that. Like, wait, what the [ __ ] was the point of this [ __ ] It's a cool idea, though. Bar app bar app bar app bar app bar app bar app bar app bar app bar app bar app barely a bunch of immortals just hide in holy ground.
They're in comas so they never die.
>> That makes sense.
>> He leaves uh to go fight him and they fight at the Silver Cup Studios.
>> Yeah. in front of this giant neon sign.
>> Silver Cup. So, they did film on location and then they built the roof for a lot of the fight scenes.
>> Okay.
>> Uh but yeah, that's a Silver Cup used to they used to make like um like pots and stuff like kitchen stuff, but then it became like studio for films.
>> I think they said like Friends shot at Silver Cup Studios.
>> Oh, okay.
>> Um >> yeah, so they uh go to that very famous sign. Um >> she's hanging on the sign.
>> She's hanging. Oh. Uh, fun little thing.
>> If you maybe notice, there might be a flash of lightning or quickening. I don't know which it is, >> but similar to the vein of Indie right here.
>> When the lightning flashes, you can clearly see that she has a harness >> strapped around her waist and she is >> That's not the only harness thing we'll see in this. We'll see more. We'll see more. He shows up and they get into the most epic sword fight ever. Everything's exploding. They're beating the [ __ ] out of each other. The keys, every single letter of the sign is falling.
>> Dude, I love when they shatter. By the way, I feel bad. Like Connor is making no attempt to rescue Brenda.
>> No, >> it's like I've got bitter bigger things to deal with right now. Like I love you lady, but your life is insignificant in this moment.
>> Well, compared to everyone else's.
>> Yeah. I got to fight the Kirk or we're all screwed. Mhm.
>> So yeah, I love that whole like he never actually frees her. She ends up getting free when the sign falls.
>> She's able to cut herself loose. He never attempts to save her. Uh but I love >> a true hero.
>> Yeah. When the water tower cracks and like floods the roof. I love the Kirk spin. He He spins into the water for no reason.
>> The water that's electrocuted.
>> Yes.
>> Which adds another element for Brenda.
She can't go in it. But I love that there's all that 2D lightning around their sword.
>> Yes. But it's beautiful. Beautiful.
>> So awesome. They fall through the roof >> into the empty thing below.
>> Probably aesthetically. Yeah.
>> Probably my favorite scene.
>> It looks so cool because they got that big window with the lights >> burning.
>> Uhhuh. And then they they did the the floor wet down. Yeah. So like most movies will do that like you'll always notice like in on the streets at night.
Yeah.
>> The it's always wet. It never rained.
>> Oh yeah. But to make it look cooler because it looks cooler. You can actually reflect more light off of those surfaces because of the and it actually makes it brighter and everything works for you. It's a huge cliche, but >> yeah, >> it totally works >> for this.
>> Yeah.
>> Perfect execution.
>> Perfect. Um Yeah. And we get more more sword fight. It does get tense when he loses his sword.
>> Yes.
>> And like he just has to dodge, but then like Brenda interferes once. And I love that moment where he's almost going to kill her and he gets the katana and he goes, "What kept you?" He like cracks a little joke.
>> Yeah. like, "Yeah, this is the time for that." Okay. Um, >> it's like one of those like witty catchphrase before you kill someone, but like he decided to put it there.
>> All right.
>> So, yeah, they're just chopping each other up and he's able to get some good cuts into the Ken.
>> Uh, and I love that the Kuran like as he's getting more cut, his eyes turn black.
>> Yeah.
>> What was that about?
>> Again, he has like the most immortal souls in him.
>> Okay.
>> And I guess cuz he's like dying or whatever. He's just I don't know. His eyes just turn pure black. I guess he has like extra power.
>> I love that at some moment he kind of knows he's going to die.
>> Mhm.
>> And he doesn't care. He's just like, I'm just so happy I made it to the end. He does the tongue. He's like, >> he does the tongue thing.
>> And we get classic anime.
>> Uhhuh.
>> And it's like, oh, is his head on yet?
And I love he just leans back and light comes out. It's such a cool.
>> That does look good. And he's still not done. All his souls are coming out of him like Freddy Krueger or Shang Sug.
And he still has the sword.
>> Oh, I forgot to mention the sword spark effect.
>> Yes.
>> I always wanted to try this, but I didn't trust myself.
>> Oh, no.
>> They hooked up uh cables to a car battery. So, they have cables running through their sleeve attached to the sword.
>> So, when they touch >> So, when the sword goes >> Uhhuh. I'm like, I've always wanted to try that, but I feel like I'll electrocute someone or myself.
>> Yeah. Uh, probably.
>> Probably.
>> But you know what you should do? Make sure you get it on film.
>> Yes, obviously.
>> Yeah. Make sure you record it if you're going to even the tests.
>> Yeah.
>> Please, Tony, record the tests.
>> Of course. Of course.
>> Thank you.
>> Test what?
>> Beautiful. 1 million views.
Man tests Highlander sword theory.
>> So yeah, Kiran's dead.
>> Yes.
>> Awesome. Crane shot into Mloud's face.
>> There can be only one.
>> Boom. Boom. Boom. It is the most ultimate amazing quickening ever. He's got 2D He got 2D animated cell animated ghosts from Poltergeist all around him.
Uh, he's got lightning conveniently hiding the harness and cables lifting him up >> sometimes.
>> That's what Okay.
>> Sometimes there are other shots where you see the cable and even the thing holding the cable spinning him around.
You're like >> probably going to use some more 2D lightning up there.
>> I don't know how I missed that one.
>> I love that he at one point he's just front flipping in the sky. So whatever these other worldly things that made the prize and everything >> Yeah. Zeissians maybe. Uh it's all going into him and he says like the quickening overpowers me. I know everything. I am everything.
>> Yeah.
>> So everything is going into him and he he wins. He's got the prize and he's explaining the prize. We see him driving through the highlands.
>> Yeah.
>> With Brenda. And he basically tells her he's like, "Yeah, so I am psychically connected to all the minds on Earth."
And he's like, "And I could use this to communicate with everyone and bring the world together."
>> Basically, it's like it's not just reading their minds, but he like feel like people's like he's able to like whatever this is, he's got to you learn how to use it.
>> Mhm.
>> But he will feel dear now he can feel people.
>> That was like a hint to what the prize.
So the whole psychic connection >> those like little hints to like what the ultimate prize is.
>> Okay. And he's like, I can use the knowledge of all of mankind and figure out how to like help humanity and make us better than ever or whatever.
>> He Ramirez is like, "Cuz you were born different than Wolf Fear." I'm like, "It's like X-Men."
>> And he even talks to Ramirez's spirit.
>> Yes.
>> Uh and bonus. Well, this is kind of a let down. He he could die now, but he can also have children. Yeah.
>> Finally, he can have a family. And then Ramirez is like, "Don't lose your head."
>> That's still That's not the greatest prize. I mean, it is for him. For that character, it's a good prize, but like >> as an immortal kind of shitty Tom, >> he needs that prize. He's got to build a giant shield around the Earth to fix the ozone layer.
That Yeah, that's what he uses the prize for in the second movie.
Are you excited to watch Highlander 2: The Quickening? Both cuts.
>> Yeah.
>> Oh, yeah. You couldn't have explained it better.
I would rather see Tom Hanks and Cuba Gooding Jr. in Back to the Future, but you know, we came with this Back to the Future remake with those two.
>> You're welcome is how that happened.
>> Oh man. Anyway, and that is Highlander.
>> Woo!
>> Highlander.
>> Tom, not a lot of wiggle room for a sequel and yet they made so many. They made they really franchise this thing.
>> So, yes. Uh, Highlander. Uh, love it.
Gets better and better. Maybe not that one makeup in the cables, but other than that, better and better.
>> Yeah.
>> Uh, as the years go by. Um, >> I I really enjoyed it. I'm I'm glad.
Honestly, I'm glad I got to finally watch it. I've been holding off for a long time cuz I've heard you make quickening jokes as a friend for so long.
>> Okay. So, I used to work I worked in a lot of Highlander 2 jokes into Mummy Cop.
>> Yes. And I at the time had no idea what he was talking about.
>> Um, we'll get to like the certain scenes I ripped off from those movies. But yeah, I think the last episode of season one is called There Can Be Only One and the last episode of season two is called The Quickening.
>> Yeah, I think Anthony like muttered it one time. He's like the quickening.
Yeah, they like it's a whole thing.
>> I I was really going through a Highlander thing at that time, but I never really at the when I was really into this in college. There wasn't really like an easy way to watch the show.
>> Now, can I have him?
>> Got that from a Goodwill. I'm like, yeah, I kind of need this.
>> Uh Adrien Paul is the He's Duncan Mloud in that he's like Connor's cousin or something.
>> Duncan Mloud. And I think he is like an actual like swordsman. So his sword fighting is a little >> Wait, so does that mean that if Ramirez has a cousin, he'll be a Highlander, too?
>> I don't know if Ramirez is cannon in the show universe. I don't know.
>> Well, I'm just like if we're going by like familial relations, then >> yeah, >> that would mean Dooall is also immortal.
>> But yeah, there's really nothing you could do.
>> That's canon. It's canon right there.
Dooall immortal.
>> The only thing you could do is a prequel. Yeah.
>> Set in different time periods. But again, not as exciting cuz it's like, well, they're none of them can win the prize. The show, I don't know why the show decided to be a hybrid, its own thing, but kind of like the movie cuz Connor shows up in he's in the very first episode, I think.
>> Okay.
>> Um, but the only thing you can really do is what they're doing now, a straightup remake.
>> Yes.
>> And I really didn't want Highlander remade.
>> Yeah. But we got the >> Yeah. Henry Cavl is the new Mloud.
>> Mhm. That man can reload his arms.
>> I know. I love that he did that for Deadpool. He reloaded.
>> Uhhuh.
>> Uh I do like that it's the one John Wick guy directing it.
>> Yes. That Well, that means that the action is going to be >> Yes. But one of my issues with the John Wick series. They got a little too into The Secret Society and all their rules and stuff. That was like fun in like the first movie. It's like an added bonus.
>> Yeah. But even though I love the John Wick movies, some of them get a little too in the weeds with >> What do you mean? They made that one show, The Continental, that did great.
>> That show was actually okay. I don't know if it did well, but it was like >> It did horrible.
>> It did.
>> It did horrible.
>> It wasn't that bad, though.
>> I made it through half of the first episode.
>> It gets good. It gets good. Mel Gibson is insane in that show.
>> I think that's why >> And the fact And the fact that people he's the fact that he's really unlikable in real life actually adds to the character. Like, wow, HE REALLY IS A DICK. LOOK, it wasn't great. I don't think we need an origin of how Winston got the Continental, >> but the whole secret society stuff kind of gets annoying in those, but like it works for Highlander and >> he really wants to do a Highlander movie. So, I'm like, "All right, the fact that this guy is remaking it and I've seen stuff in John Wick that could it shows a potential remake could be really cool."
>> Yeah. And seeing Henry Caval in The Witcher, we know that he can definitely perform with a sword.
>> Yeah. Um, so I'm not like excited for it. It's kind of like the Roadhouse remake I thought was going to be the worst thing ever and it was just kind of dumb. It wasn't the worst thing ever.
They still shouldn't have done it.
>> Yeah.
>> Uh, at least there were there were a few good action scenes in that one. I just as long as it has decent action and it's just a one and done. Don't try to sequel bait this. We already learned that there could only there could be only one.
There could be only one.
>> Pain don't hurt.
>> Different movie.
>> Oh, sorry. And there should have been only one, but yes, uh, solid film. If you've never seen it, it streams pretty much everywhere often.
>> I've watched my version on TubeBu.
>> Yeah, it's on TubeBu, I think Amazon Prime, and it is I think the director's cut is the popular version now.
>> I mean, based on the back flips, we've discerned that that was the version I saw, and that was the 2B version.
>> And uh, yeah, check it out. Uh, let us know what you think. I think you're going to have a good time with it.
Definitely got that that was a nice steelbook 4K I got there.
got the slip cover and everything.
>> It's nice.
>> Uh but yeah, you will have a good time with this movie and an even better time with Russell Mul's Tale of the Mummy on Patreon.
>> And remember, >> there can be >> there be only one.
>> Careful, that's a real blade.
>> There can be only one.
>> Uh Tom, >> yes. If I wanted to film myself sword fighting uh uh with a lot of steam and fog.
>> Oh, who could I hire for that?
>> I know someone who's really good at that.
>> Okay.
