Air Conditioning - But Make It FREE!!Añadido:
Hey everybody and welcome to another new video of the $1 camper. We're getting closer to the end. One of the most important things is air conditioning.
Today we're going to install this cozy wear min. Thanks for sponsoring this video. I have a little bit mixed feelings about this because I'm not sure if our solar setup can actually power this.
And yes, you technically could calculate it, but who has time for that? I'd rather just see if it works. But before we jump into that, I want to show you some updates here. First of all, you are not going to believe this. Remember last time when I was worried because we're running out of budget fast and I still need to get some seating. Guess what I found on the side of the road.
Not only are these chairs vintage and absolutely gorgeous, they're also intact. Like there's like even the leather is fine. There's nothing wrong with it. They were a little dirty.
That's it. And they fit the space perfectly.
I did get the chairs for free. I did also spend a little bit of money on these beautiful speakers.
Perfect. I needed good speakers that have a small footprint and I did spend $200 on it and I think it was worth every penny. So now we have inside music, outside music that we can have run, you know, either outside, either inside or both at the same time. ideal.
And last thing, maybe you noticed, everything is oiled. My French stuff did all the hot work and oiled all the surfaces.
Oh, and we did the cutout.
It is a little wonky, but good enough.
Nobody's going to look there.
>> Yeah. But now, >> now the edge fits. Yes.
>> Yeah.
So, we are getting really, really close and finishing for today. As I said, I want to install the air conditioning that's going to live here. Um, I think the install will be pretty straightforward. We do need a technician. He is scheduled for in 2 hours. So, we have 2 hours to do all the drilling, electrical work, and installing the inside unit. Then, a technician is going to come and put like the cooling fluid. You need a special vacuum pump. We'll learn about this a little bit later. And then we'll find out if our solar system is actually powerful enough to power this.
Theoretically, this unit needs 25 amps and our solar system has 20 amps, so it shouldn't work. But my hope is that if you don't run it full power, which this is a big unit for a small space, it should be okay. Either way, we are in a metal box in California. We do need air conditioning. It is getting so hot in here. So, let's do our part. Sam, hope it goes well. Wait for the technician and then pray to the god of solar power that we don't need 25 amps.
Okay, to get started, we need to make a quick material run. Let's go.
Colds are expensive, man.
Okay, we spent a little bit too much time on our material, run. The technician is actually already there and I told them everything will be ready to set up. So now we have to hurry. Good news is that CozyWear sends these templates. So once we figure out where this needs to be, this should go quick.
Yeah, that's definitely Paulo. That's good. This is where we need the big hole.
Are we ready for this? Do we want to address the fact that I just spent $115 on a set of hole saws? Because I didn't want to spend 50 on the right one. And that set didn't include the right one.
>> What?
>> We need 70 mm and we have 65.
>> 65. 5 mil. Uh >> ah. Now it locks in. But this is a nice Oh, nice.
>> Okay, cool. Well, should be will be enough. Okay, let's see.
commitment.
That's great. And you have to put it at an angle because this is where the water lines are going to run. So, you want them to have a little bit of a Oh, nice. I see light.
Okay, that was easy enough.
Yeah.
>> Next. I don't know. Let's look in the menu.
>> The menu.
>> The menu.
>> The manual.
>> I'm hungry.
>> Mounting plate.
So like that.
Okay, now connecting the refrigerant pipe and then this needs to come through and the wire. Okay, that's the communication wire so both parts can talk to each other. Okay, and now the rest.
Okay. I think it's not in all the way, but it hangs. And we still need to connect those wires.
Aha. Okay, great. This is really cool.
They um it's very well labeled, so you can't mix this up.
Easy install.
>> Yeah, easy install.
>> Feel powerful.
Heat. Heat.
If you ever build a stationary camper, tiny house, something like that, I can only recommend to add a secondary roof.
Not only does that help with like rain and weather control, it also gives you a layer of air in between the two roofs, which helps immensely with insulation.
But even though we have that, it is still a little too hot in the camper.
That's why we need the air conditioning.
But I want to show you how hot the roof is, how hot the roof of the camper would be if we didn't have the secondary roof.
Let's go.
All right.
It reads 144.
The black top, can I see that from here?
Oh, yeah. The black top is 137. So, it is a hot day.
Okay, the technicians filled up the lines. Everything is good to go. I just need to hook up the power and not mess up and then we should be able to test it. Let's start with the ground.
White is neutral.
Okay, let's see.
>> I heard a beep in there.
>> I heard a click.
Let's run inside. Oh my god. Come on.
Ooh. Ooh. It's doing something. It's already working.
It's on. It's It's just running. I didn't even do anything. That's perfect.
This is one of those things that's kind of hard to show on camera, but it is very nice.
68. This is nice. Especially after this install.
>> I can hear it in the mic. Yeah, >> it's just the wind. Oh, I have a really good idea how to show the airflow. One second. The fork machine. You ready?
Oh, dude, check this out. With the charge we're having right now, it's really the sun is really bright. We're getting,200 W input and we're having,200 W output, which means the sun is completely offsetting this. So, the battery says, and we have two fridges running, we have all the lights running, and we have the smoke machine running, yet we could go for 17 and 12 days. Whoa. So, my thought was we only need the AC if the sun is out. So, it kind of, you know, we never need it at night. So, because I wasn't sure if we could have it run through the night, but we could have it run to 17 nights.
>> This is incredible.
Why does not everybody have a AC room on solar now, >> right?
>> Yeah.
>> I'm going to upgrade the house. This makes no sense to pay for this.
>> Hey, hey, >> hey. Huh?
>> That's really nice.
>> Isn't that nice? Oh my god.
>> And the power complete like the sun offsets it. This could run for 17 and 12 days just from the battery.
>> And you were worried about whether there was enough.
>> I know, right? All the things I worry about usually, you know, >> when will we when will we learn?
>> Never.
>> Never stop us.
>> So your office your office is ready.
>> Needs a rub.
>> It needs a rug.
>> But that's my job.
>> That's your responsibility.
>> I know.
>> All right. Well, thanks for thanks for wear testing. Air testing.
>> Air testing.
Oh, wow.
So, this is how cold it's coming out.
>> 46.
>> Yeah, it's 100° less than the roof.
Yeah, you can really feel it. It's getting very It's almost like this whole thing is turning into the fridge. And I love it cuz I don't know. I think it has to do with me being a German, maybe European even. like we're very very concerned about wasting energy and that's why AC's you know we're always a little bit like sometimes in the states you see AC's outdoors and I like I I can't take it. I have to think about the costs and how much energy this is wasting. This is the first AC that I can truly enjoy because it is not wasting energy. It's purely running on solar and I love it.
Remember when I had this little window unit? I took it out immediately, but there was a time in this camper build where I thought, I'm just going to put a little a little window unit in. That should be enough. This thing was so freaking loud. The whole camper was vibrating. I took it out immediately.
This thing is very, very And this is not even on quiet mode. Let's hit quiet mode. Sh.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> Whoa. Is that Is that even on still?
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. But for quiet mode, that's really quiet.
>> Yeah. And still really cold. Okay. The point is made. It's very quiet. I'm glad we kicked out this window unit and upgraded to this mini split, especially when you consider the installation. I mean, it took us maybe 20 minutes and then the technicians maybe one and a half hours, two hours, and then it was done. We should have done this before we spent all this time here sweating our asses off. Sam, that was a wrong operation of order of operation.
Oh, this is wild. Now that this room is temperature controlled, it just went from 100 to 66 W output. And you can see it's on 68° automatic.
So, this is way, way more efficient than I thought. And one thing, it's weird, and I'm probably alone with this, but I really like remote controls. So, I appreciate that. Even though this is smart, so you can smart control it from an app, you don't have to. You don't have to use an app. You can just use a remote control. It is plugandplay. Well, if you do like to connect stuff to your phone, you can. And it is completely controllable. So, we could go fan higher.
We can set it on timer, which is nice. I can turn it on when I'm in the house and know I want to be in the camper in 5 minutes so it's nice and cool when I get here or if I forget to turn it off I can do it from the house. So I do think it's definitely practical um especially with the programming of it. This is great. So that concludes the AC video for the camper. And guys, that means I think there's like one or two more and then that's it because this is done. This place is getting better and better and better. And especially now with a climate control, a temperature control, I'm going to spend so much time here.
So, if you like me love remote controls and are interested in one of those Cozy Wear mini splits, then go to the description and check out the link.
There's a really good deal for you there. And I hope you enjoyed this video as much as I enjoy a airond conditioned camper. And I'll see you next week with a new video. Bye.
>> All right. Just finding more stuff.
>> Yeah, you can use it as a dehumidifier.
>> Oh.
>> Oh, it's getting too cold, man. I'm freezing. Stirred it up a little bit.
68.
All right. Cool.
