When government agencies violate citizens' civil rights, such as the IRS illegally distributing 5,000 tax returns for political purposes, there should be meaningful accountability and consequences, including financial settlements and legal repercussions, rather than allowing such violations to go unpunished.

Trump’s $1.8 Billion Fund Is “To Pay a Price for Violating People’s Civil Rights, Weaponizing Govt.”Added:
The slush fund. I'm so interested in listening to Republican members of Congress talk about their objections.
Some are clearly just pissed over Orn and and Cassidy. Some have principled objections to it. Some seem to think voters really care. So, just yes no question.
Are people who think that voters care about the slush fund? Not Not nobody, but is this a widespread concern for voters the slush fund, Kevin? Yes or no?
Yes. Yes, Larry? No.
I I don't think it is. I I'd be surprised. I think it's breaking and part of it is the mainstream media coverage of it. I mean, I I think it is breaking through and again, the optics of January 6th guys, you know, that attacked cops, you know, potentially getting some of this money. I think it will resonate.
>> only Is the only objection to the slush fund from the voters except that it exists? Is it If you If they said no one connected to January 6th will get it, is there an objection?
Is the objection just about that?
I think that a lot of it is couched in that, for sure. And that's what you're also seeing the objections from the Republican senators about that, as well.
Uh but I I think there's also notions of you know, should our tax Again, this isn't just created money. This is, you know, funds from taxpayer uh you know, monies that have been levied to pay this out.
>> yeah, but but but where did the fund come from?
From a settlement, but it's taxpayer money.
>> over what?
A settlement over a lawsuit that the president is on both sides of that suing for $10 billion and settling with his Department of Justice. Because >> Because the IRS illegally gave one of these like 5,000 tax returns for political purposes that had one of 5,000 American citizens through a contractor and there was a criminal lawsuit as part of that.
>> Kevin, what is the at what point does the government actually have to pay a price for violating people's civil rights? If they can do it to Donald Trump, they can do it to anybody. And that's what the whole purpose of this is. And and people feel like there's never any repercussions for weaponizing the government against people. You And And by the way, you talk about smash funds.
>> And And I hear that argument. Can I I'm just going to ask you a question back, right? Yeah. During the the '92 presidential race, uh the State Department under my hero, James Baker, accidentally released Bill Clinton's passport information in terms of what where he traveled, and it was a huge scandal with investigations. Do you think uh then Governor Clinton should have sued for $10 billion because that became a campaign issue, uh and a lot of reports about it, and it was a leak that was uh unwarranted and illegal. Mhm.
>> [clears throat] >> So, uh first of all, did it harm him?
Sure.
I think he won the election, didn't he?
Well, no. And Donald Trump won the election, too. But If that's your argument. Well, no.
Act- Actually, he was still harmed by it, whether he won the election or not, but it certainly didn't harm uh Bill Clinton. But listen, it did somebody pay a price? Did somebody go to jail? Did somebody get punished? Yeah, there's a there was a huge investigation. I I don't I assume some people In '92, Jim James Baker, great guy, was called before to testify and all that kind of stuff, and it was a and it was a blemish on his record at the end.
>> If If you got to go back, you know, uh 35 years to come up with an example of how a Democrat >> Says the guy who brought up the Whiskey Rebellion earlier in the in the programming here, Mr. Okay.
>> [laughter] >> Uh Do you know You all know Mark Caputo, right? Good guy. Would you Mark Mark Great guy. The The political operative, Mark Caputo, right? No, you don't mean Mark Caputo.
Mike Caputo, excuse me.
>> Yeah. Like Mike >> Mike Caputo. You all know Mike Caputo.
Yeah. Really nice guy. Um political consultant, helped Trump win the 2016 election, and for his efforts, he got a a job at Health and Human Services.
Really nice guy.
Uh he got caught up in the Russian collusion hoax. He got caught up in the Mueller investigation. He had to go into debt by tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars. He He was suffering from cancer. He couldn't get another job as a political consultant. And you know how many times he was mentioned in the Mueller report? Like three times about a call he had with Roger Stone that never came of anything. You know that people got harmed by this stuff. Why shouldn't he have recourse to the government? He He can have recourse, but it should be done with the involvement of Congress and not just a slush fund created by the president using his leverage he got by suing himself. Did you spend this much time against settling with himself? What about the Pigford settlement, guys?
Against Against racism against black farmers which was twice as much as this.
Did you spend any time talking about that?
How was that created through a There's legal recourse for this and and people get covered for attorney fees all the time. Yeah, it was created through a settlement the same way that this one's being created. Not by the president suing himself. Hey, want to be part of the Two Way community all the time?
