The Etches synthesizer uses three primary controls to determine which notes the array produces: ROOT selects the tonic from twelve chromatic pitches, SCALE chooses from twelve built-in scales (including Chromatic, Major, Minor, Pentatonic, Blues, and modal scales) that quantize note pads to the active scale, and INDEX (SHIFT) transposes the note array across ±4 octaves from center, allowing real-time pitch shifting during playback.
