In equipped bench press competitions, athletes compete in multiple rounds with progressive weight increases, where each lifter has three attempts per round and the best three lifts count toward their total. The competition uses a card system where white lights indicate successful lifts, blue cards indicate bar movement issues, and yellow/red cards indicate other violations. Athletes can make equipment adjustments between attempts, which is a key difference from classic bench press. The 2026 World Bench Press Championships featured world record attempts in the Masters 3 category, with lifter Yan Vigera from Poland attempting 260 kg in the 93 kg weight class, exceeding the previous record of 237.5 kg by 12.5 kg.

🔴 LIVE: Men M3-M4 Equipped, 83-93 kg - 2026 World Bench Press ChampionshipsAdded:
Welcome back to the IPF World Classic and Equip Bench Press Championship live from Warso, Poland, brought to you by Alco and SBD for the best gear and equipment for powerlifting on the planet. We are here today for our third session and we're going to watch the Masters 3 and Masters 483's lift equipped bench.
>> We have a lot of lifting ahead of us. We have already seen a lot of amazing lifting throughout the day and I don't think this afternoon will be any different.
We have kicked off already here with Kennet Snodgrass from USA.
80 kilos on the bar for Kennet.
>> So we have a group now of nine lifters >> the 83s.
Kennet opening up easy here with three white lights and gets himself on the board.
Next up we have Adam Rita from Poland >> Masters three >> 83 kilo category.
Adam has done a couple of internationals before.
Did the European bench in Malta last year.
>> It's a good lift.
And we are now setting up for Dai Ospanov from Kazakhstan. It's a masters for athlete >> opening at 135.
>> Lots of international experience and quite a few gold medal under his belt.
But not only from bench press, he also does the three lifts, >> three white lights.
>> So for Osamua from Japan, 155 on the bar for the last opener in the M483s.
Aima coming with a very large team of lifters from Japan that we've had during the week. A lot of them lifting both equipped and the classic.
Good.
Got to wait for the lights on that one and see another lift. Blue lights, blue cards all over the shop.
That means up and down movement of the bar.
>> Time for Masaki from Japan.
>> 160 on the bar for his opener.
First international for Agura.
This one a little bit tougher maybe than what you want an opener to be.
>> No lift. Blue and red cards from the referees.
Certainly was some up and down movement of that.
It's time for Steuart Pescat. Great Britain Masters three athletes.
Opening at >> 175 on the bar.
Stewart coming into this championship with a few previous internationals under his belt.
>> He's done both some classic and equipped competitions.
Came home with a silver medal from M's equipped bench 2023.
in France.
Good lift.
Moving on to Finland and Stigeric Bist, nominated second and has not less than three silver medals from previous internationals.
Latest one bring from Euros and Malta last year.
That looked pretty good to me. Well, let's see. Yep. Three white lights.
>> Puts himself on the board with 187.5 kilos. And that leaves us with one opener.
>> Toshu Matsuka opening at 187.5.
Matsuka has competed internationally before, but it's been quite a while. I think the last time in 2018, so this is a bit of a comeback.
The last time we competed internationally was as a masters 2 and here is today in Poland as a Mast's three athlete.
>> No lift unfortunately.
Last opener in the M383s no one less than Thomas Ring.
team Sweden. Not only is Thomas a lifter here today, he was earlier this week as well for the classic division and he's been coaching every day this week.
So, he had had a big week. I'm impressed with the dedication for all these different things.
Does he manage to lock it out?
>> Good lift. Yellow card from the side referee.
>> Cannot see from this angle where I'm sitting exactly what that could have been.
But I trust the referees.
>> Good lift for Sweden as well. And we are going into round two.
>> Kennet from USA.
It's taking quite a jump from 80 to 110, >> but that's the kind of stuff that will see an equipped bench.
locks it out at the top.
SW three white lights. Good lift >> and Snrass is on the board with two green lifts.
setting up for Adam Rita from Poland.
Now taking a second at 135.
Let's go. Adam >> had a good opener.
No lift for Poland.
Lost the balance of the bar a little bit there. Going up.
>> Time for Dai Ospan of Kazakhstan.
kilos >> master is four athlete >> taking a 20 kilo jump here which might seem like a lot but it is I would say normal and equipped bench with these kind of increases.
Sometimes you can even see someone open classic without a shirt just to get a number on the board and then do a huge jump for a shirt lift.
>> Will he get all the way up? No. A little bit left.
>> Let's hope that they can make some adjustments for the third round and get that lift done.
Now it's time for >> Japan coming out for another go at 155. Five.
Australia.
Now I think we have a better situation that we had in the opener. Three white lights and a good lift and Osamu IMA is on the leaderboard with a lift.
>> Bar is now loaded from Masaki Ugura from Japan.
Also retaking the opening weight of 116 from Japan.
No lift >> for Japan. Blue cards all over the place. That means the bar was not moving in one motion all the way up.
There was some up and down movement.
Time for Steuart Pescat. Great Britain.
>> 182.5 kilos.
>> Loaded up for Stewart's second attempt.
We've taken a jump of 7.5 kilos.
I'm holding.
>> Let's go, Steuart.
No lift unfortunately. It was just a bit too heavy to press.
>> Now it's >> ready for Toshi. Matsuka also missed his opener at 187.5.
164.
>> Let's go to Sh. Get this number up on the board.
Unfortunately, once again, no lift.
The thing with equipped lifting though is that now you can actually go and make some adjustments out there in the warm-up room with the shirt as opposed to classic when it comes down to strength maybe.
See if we have some miscommunication here regarding the weights on the platform.
Got to make sure that's right. What we want is 192.5 >> for steer burquist.
>> The bar is loaded.
>> You don't want that to be wrong.
If there is a so-called platform error and it's discovered after that the bar is misloaded, for example, a lifter could be granted a another attempt at the end of the round.
That will not be the case here though, but you see it sometimes.
Let's go all the way up.
>> Three white lights.
>> Good day for Sig Bist. Two green lifts on the board for him. And it's time for Tumas from Sweden.
200 kilos.
Sweden has had a big team all week and a lot of them are lifting both classic and equipped.
>> Can hear a lot of Swedes in the crowd as well today.
17.5 >> little bit more.
push.
>> Hopefully they can tweak some details >> for round three.
>> Now we're going into round three.
Kenneet from USA is next. 135 kilos.
We're taking quite the jump here. 25 kilos. But >> as mentioned before, this happens often in equipped bench.
Kenneet looking for a person of best of 7.5 kilos which is a significant amount even in equipped.
Come on.
>> No lift. Unfortunately, just a bit too heavy, but some fist bumps with the spotters to say thank you. They're doing a great job here.
from 135.
>> Adam Rita from Poland.
>> Now we're looking for 135 kilos. It's the second try at this weight.
Let's hope that he can put it all together for this last lift of the day.
Oh, it looks pretty good. We'll bring it all the way up.
>> Beautiful. Good lift. One red card from the side. Referee >> in these cases. The jury that are sitting here in front of me, they will take another look and discuss the lift and see if they agree with the referee's call.
>> Now it's time for Dai Ospanov from Kazakhstan.
Second go at 155.
Good evening.
USA >> came up with such a speed from the chest.
>> Unfortunately, not with an Even enough movement for the referees to give white lights. We get two blue cards there for some up and down movement of the bar.
Now it's time for Masaki Ogura and a third try at the opener weight of 160 kilos. He needs this lift to get a result in this competition.
Come on then.
Let's go, Masaki.
>> It's yours.
Come on, press it now.
>> I think that was a good lift. It was a good lift. One blue card from the side referee. I see the jury are discussing.
>> They seem all right with that.
>> Now we have not just any old lift happening. is Osamua Japan 167.5 kilos on the bar and that is ladies and gentlemen a world record in the masters for 83 kilo category >> let's go Will he finish this competition in the best possible way? He already has the gold medal in hand.
How about a world record as well?
>> Lost control of the bar a little bit.
Halfways up, >> but a good attempt as any.
>> Now we have four more lifts in the M3 category. Next up, Steuart Pascet retaking 182.5.
>> Let's go, Stewart.
Stewart is charging on the platform for this last lift of the day.
Come on, Stewart.
Oh, the bar tipped over to one side.
It's quite difficult to recover it.
>> That happens. But it was a good attempt.
Now it's time for Toshu Matsuka.
>> He is in a situation here where he really needs to get this lift done. It's already failed the opener and the second at the same weight.
So we can see that the center referee steps up a bit closer to the platform.
We see this sometimes if the lifter cannot hear well enough so that the chief referee can also show the hand movements.
So there's no confusion of when the signals are being given.
Oh wow, he does it despite a very long press command.
Three white lights for that lift.
Amazing to see. What an incredible recovery from Matsuka. and he gets himself on the board with 187.5 which puts him in bronze medal position straight away.
>> Two more lifts to go in this group. Ste Eric Bist from Finland.
If he gets this lift, he will jump up to gold position >> if anything temporarily or until Thomas has done his last lift. But he's lighter on body weight than Thomas ring.
Come on.
>> They kept moving for quite a while, but little bit left to knock that out. No lift for Finland. And of course, >> Sweden is coming in with an attempt change now.
202.5 kilos for tumasing from Sweden.
>> Let's go. Thomas >> gold medal is his already.
Show us how it's done.
Come here, Thomas. You got this.
>> He felt that straight away.
Nonetheless, he has the gold medal and concludes a quite exciting session with the Masters 3 and 483s.
We are moving straight into the same age categories, different weight category.
These are the men of the 93s. Starting now, Sergei Kolosovski from Ukraine will be the first lifter out.
>> Opening at 105 kilos.
5 kilos.
260 from Japan to record.
Lifters have one minute to get the start command which he managed to do just a few seconds before it timed out.
>> It's a good lift though. Three white lights on the first lift is on the board.
Now it's time for Louie Harui from France.
82 years of age.
A very to me at least impressive age to be competing internationally and to be opening a bench press competition at 110 kilos.
Hallelujah.
Look pretty good to me.
>> Three white lights and a good lift.
>> France is on the board.
Now it's time for John Nguiraa from Canada. Opening of 125.
This is John's second world championship in bench. Last one was 2024 Texas.
>> Good lift.
>> Now it's time for Mikas Estonia.
Another Masters four outlet.
>> 135 kilos loaded up for Mel's opening lift.
Has a couple of internationals under his belt. However, it's been a while. Last one was a two >> 2017 >> and that was the European Championship in bench press in Finland.
So this is a little bit of a comeback internationally and he does that well gets himself on the board with three white lights and we are jumping into the M3 category.
Steven Fleming Canada Stay with it.
all the way up.
>> Easy opener for Steven. He gets himself a good lift on the board. So far we have all the openers in the M4s locked up.
Sorry, my mistake. We have one more opener in the M4s >> and that is by Japan's Sichi Node. So I didn't jinx it now by saying that >> 150 kilos on the bar for Japan.
Get that finish. Finish.
Very fastpaced press.
>> Three white lights for that. Of course, textbook attempt.
And now it's time for Mo Dabesi from Sweden.
a fresh mast's one only his first year in this age category.
It's always a uh good spot to be in when we're talking about the mast's categories in powerlifting.
155 kilos for his opening lift.
Diski comes into this championship with quite a bit of international experience.
>> Few medals as well from a few years ago.
And now we are ready for Saka Japan >> 160 on the bar for his opener.
>> Extensive competition history comes with Sakai. He has not less than two gold medals >> from the Asian and World Bench press championships and a couple of silvers as well.
Let's see what he can bring home today.
Nice little >> no lift unfortunately.
bar is being set up now for Kenan.
Part of a very large Finnish team that we had here throughout the week.
Can you opening >> 180 kilos >> second world bench for Kenya also did the ramen in Norway last year.
No lift unfortunately.
>> So hope that I can go back there in the warm-up room, make some adjustments and come back stronger for round two.
Now it's time for Ronald Benson from team Sweden.
Also 180 on the bar for his opener.
Ronald is no stranger to the international platform. He even has gold and silver medals with him from a few years ago.
last time competed in DA Norway bench worlds last year.
>> It's a good lift for Sweden and it's on the board.
Now we have three openers at 190 kilos and then a bit of a surprise coming up for the last opener.
It's time for me to stop poke from >> 190 kilos.
Let's go. Move is the opener. Lock it in.
>> No lift. Unfortunately, >> luckily there's two more attempts to get that right and get a lift on the board.
Now it's time for Calio Abnner from Estonian 190.
KN is nominated second in this group.
>> He has a bunch of gold medals in his backpack.
>> Competes both equipped and classic and full power.
Everything. Let's see what he can put together today.
from Estonia.
>> Come on.
>> It's a good lift.
Second to last opener here in the M3 category.
Thomas Sanch USA >> 190 for his opener.
very experienced lifter and coach has been there all week helping out being part of the big US team that we have here.
>> How's that for an easy opener if the referees agree?
>> It's a good lift and it's on the board.
And now the next opener is not just any opener. It is Jean Veiera from Poland opening at a world record in the Masters three category. How about that?
>> And not just by a kilo or so.
The current record is at 237.5 and John is coming out to attempt 250 kilos.
This is in any category a massive weight to open at.
Wow, that is a good lift. That is incredibly impressive getting a blue card from the side referees.
>> Not sure exactly why that was. I don't have as good of a view as the referees have from here, but it's up to the jury to discuss if they think that that should stay a good lift or not.
>> And with this being said, we're going to go into round two. Sergey Kosovski Ukraine is next >> in this iconic Ukrainian singlet.
Also part of a big team.
Ukraine is one of the strongest nations in equipped powerlifting and bench press.
>> Easy press >> and it is a good lift.
Kolosovski puts himself on the board with 112.5 kilos.
>> And now it's time for France. Luis Pi5.
So 15 kilos for the second attempt.
would have been quite the dump. 255 Let's go all the way up.
>> It was stuck there. Halfway up.
>> No lift.
And now it's time for Canada's lifter John Nogua.
>> 10 kilo jump up to 135 here for a second.
three white legs and No locks in 135. Two good loops.
Now we are adding on some weights.
Bringing the bar up to 145 and it's time for MK last second lift.
Bar is loaded for Estonia.
look pretty good to me.
>> And the referees agree with that. They say three white lines and a good lift.
And it's time for Steven Fleming.
>> 145 kilos for the Canadian next lift.
>> He has been touching these weights before. I consider his personal best is at 155.
Let's go. It locks it out.
>> And it's a good lift.
as well on the board with two good lifts.
>> Now we have the last second attempt in the M4 category and that is Sein Node from Japan taking a jump of 10 kilos up to 160.
Got to wait for the lights. Yep, it's a good lift.
Beautiful.
>> And now it's time for Tomataka Sakaya missed his opener at 160.
So it feels extra important to get this lift.
We have 160 kilos loaded up.
couldn't quite get off the chest there.
He probably lost the tension somehow.
And this is the thing with equipped banish. It comes down to so much details.
Now it's time for Tomak >> 160 on the barn.
>> See if we're good to go. Some discussions between referee and the technical controller.
Now we're moving on to the next lifter.
Modes Sweden.
>> He's taking a jump of 7.5 kilos.
175.
>> Let's go all the way up.
>> No lift for Sweden, unfortunately.
Time for Finland's Kinan next also retaking his opener weight 180.
>> This is his logged personal best.
It is the exact way that he took a bronze with in last year for bench worlds.
A little bit wobbly off the chest, but he presses it.
>> Three blue cards means that the referees also saw the wobbliness.
One more lifter here that missed the opener me from check retaking 190.
>> We are ready to go. Mlav is coming out.
to take on this 190 kilobar.
He has definitely done this type of weights before, but as we know in the world of equipped powerlifting, it comes down to a lot of details and a lot of things that need to match up for a lift to happen.
just couldn't quite lock out the elbows at the top.
>> No lift, unfortunately.
4 second attempts left to go. It's time for Sweden and Ronald Banks.
190 >> nailed the opener and now they have added 10 kilos to the bar.
It moved so well >> and then he kind of lost control of the bar. It came forward.
>> Can also happen when the shirt takes over so to speak.
Three more attempts in round two. Next is Kalu Abnner from Estonia.
They have added five kilos to the opener and we're landing at 195 now.
Come on.
>> He manages to look at that right elbow now. Might actually get this lift.
Quite expected mix of lights there. Blue cards from the side referee.
>> It's time for Thomas from USA. Also 195 kilos on the bar.
Sasha from Germany.
Go Thomas.
>> I think he nailed that. Let's see.
>> He did indeed. It's three white lights.
Good for you, Thomas. Two green lifts on the board. And now for yet another world record attempt because of course already the opener exceeded the current world record by 12.5 kilos.
250 was not enough. Yan Vigera is coming for 260 as a masters three in the 93 kilo category. Here we go again for another world record attempt.
Let's go down.
>> Incredibly strong. However, blue cards >> from center and side center indicating that it had to do with elbow depth or lockout. I'm not 100% sure, but one of the two. No lift. Anyways, >> going into the third round.
in Poland.
>> Louis Pui from France is coming out now.
Take his third attempt.
>> Is a repeat of the second. We're 115 kilos on the bar.
>> Let's hope that they have tweaked a few things, maybe adjusted the shirt a little bit and found the motivation to get this lift done.
Come on. Unfortunately.
>> Little bit too heavy.
>> And now it's time for Sergei.
>> Kolosovski Ukraine.
Another 7.5 kilo >> added to his total here now by this 120 kilo attempt.
>> It is a personal best attempt which is always nice. No better place to get a personal best than on this world platform here. It is a very special feeling.
Come on, let's go all the way up. I think he actually nailed that, but we'll wait for the lights.
Three white lights from the referees.
>> Good for Sergey.
>> The first lifter in this group to lock in three good lifts.
>> Unusually equipped bench or equipped powerlifting in general, but nonetheless a very nice feeling to have three out of three. Now it's time for John Noger from Canada.
147 >> 147.5 looking for a new personal best.
>> Also this lift if successful will send him to silver position.
Come on, John.
>> Just didn't move from there.
>> So, John Noger stays in bronze.
>> Now, let's see what Steven Fleming can do for his third attempt and the last lift of the day. We have 147.5 kilos on the bar.
15.
Second.
Oh, lost control over it at the top.
What a shame. He actually did the lift and then the shirt took it from him.
>> Two lifts left in in the M4 category.
Now we have Mikuel Lass from Estonia.
50 match personal best >> has the silver medal in hand already.
for me.
Oh, I think he has it. That was actually a very nice looking attempt. Three white lights puts himself on the board with 150 kilos and three out of three.
>> Back to the M3 category and Mio Dabesi retaking 162.5 kilos.
>> Let's go, Mo. You got this.
Let's go.
>> Sorry.
Let's go me up.
>> Not today, unfortunately.
>> Came off the chest quickly, but it would just was a little bit too heavy to press it all the way up.
And now we have Tomotaka Sakai from Japan that failed the opener and the second at 160.
Yet team Japan chose to increase by 2.5 kilos which I don't really know what the strategy is there.
Maybe he is looking for some sort of personal best. Let's go. Tuck out.
It's not going to go away.
>> Good attempt as any but there was a lot going on with our lift.
Yellow cards of course. No lift and we have sin node from Japan coming out next here.
Two good lifts in the bag. Kenny lock in a third one. Nice series of 10 kilo increases here >> and we have landed at 170.
Check out.
Let's go. Come on.
>> Came off the chest with quite some speed.
Unfortunately, referees are giving blue cards for this.
>> It was up and down movement. So, the center referee clearly signaling this.
Now we have arrived at Ko Lumpan's last lift.
>> Finland's lifter needs to get this last lift done 185. We have a similar situation to a couple of lifts ago where the opener was failed, the second was failed and yet they have chosen to increase. I can see why now because he wants to get a new personal vest by 5 kilos.
Sometimes they can also mean that it's a national record in the country of the lifter. We cannot see that on the screen.
Come on, press it.
He managed to lock that out. They got the rack command. However, >> mixed cards from the referees, blue and yellow.
That means up and down movements, maybe a little bit of lockout related issues as well.
I don't have the same view as the referees, so I cannot see exactly what they see.
>> And now it's time for me to poke from Czecha.
Same situation here. We have two failed lifts and we have an increase of 5 kilos for this last attempt.
We're at 195.
>> Locks it out.
brings it home with three white lights.
Puts himself on the board with >> 195 kilos.
Good job by Midlav.
>> Now it's time for Ronald Banks on Sweden. 195 on the bar. He failed 190 in the second.
a lot going on in that lift.
>> Bit of a wild ride, but it's not a lift.
Four more attempts to go here in round three.
Time for Calio Abnner.
>> 197.5 kilos on the bar. 2.5 kilo increase.
First year as a Mast's three.
See if we can conclude the first bench world as a Masters three with a good lift.
I think we will if he can lock that right elbow out. He could not.
>> So close but no cigar.
>> Two more lifts.
It's time for Thomas from USA.
>> Thomas already has a silver medal in hand and nothing is going to change that. But he wants this lift at 197.5.
Let's go Thomas. I think he has it. Keep pushing.
gets the rack command, but it's blue lights all over the shop unfortunately.
Well, well done to Thomas for his performance today. He finished at 195.
>> And the very last lift of this session will be Yan Vigera once again coming out for a Mast's three record attempt.
He already locked in 250. Came out for a 260 attempt to extend on a world record.
Failed it. And here he is again for another go at the 260.
>> Let's get it, John.
No better way to finish a session than with a world record attempt.
>> I think he did it.
No blue cards up and down movement.
>> Still has a world record. I think he can be happy with that.
>> I would be for sure.
>> And that concludes this session. John Biga obviously winner in the M393s.
In the Masters 4, we have Safety Node 160 kilo top end lifter. And in the 83s, M3s, Tumas Ring with 195. And the M4s, we have Osamua Japan 155 kilos.
