When adapting a motorcycle engine to a car, the cooling system must be properly sized for the increased thermal load; insufficient radiator capacity leads to overheating during sustained high-performance track driving, requiring either a larger radiator or reduced power output to maintain safe operating temperatures.

I TOOK My HAYABUSA MICRA To The TRACK… Using My £2,000 RESCUED Recovery TruckAdded:
Heat. Heat.
All right, welcome back. Today is a big day.
We are doing a shakeddown on two vehicles what I've featured on this channel. First one is the Hayabusa Micra. taking it to the track today, but we're taking it on the abandoned recovery truck, which as you've seen in the other videos, the Micros had a little bit of a shakedown, but road driving, we've never actually had it on a track. Today is going to be a a test for it. We're going to see what happens.
It might break, it might not, but we're not bothered because we're going on the truck, but that is only if the truck actually makes it there. I've never driven the truck further than 10 miles.
So, today we're doing an hour and a half trip in it. But it's not just me today.
We're going with a friend who's also just bought himself a recovery truck. He wishes it were as good as mine. He thinks it is. But he's also got the pink panty dropper, but he's poorly.
>> Man flu.
>> He's got M flu. He's poorly. Also, check him out. Just started his new thing, Lace Car Company, selling cars. Check him out. I'll link his thing in description. Yeah, as you can see, he's bought this absolute pellet again. Never been anywhere near track, but we are doing an air ring trip later on in the year, and that will be going. The micro is not going. Well, at the moment it's not going. Another vehicle's coming with me, but that's a backup. But yeah, he's taking this to ring. So, we're going to a shakeddown today at Cadwell Park. So, without further ado, let's uh let's get on as way. We're all loaded up. Let's get going. Right off we pop then. Little bit of an information about what we're doing. We are going to Cadwell Park.
>> It's uh >> What time is it? It's currently 10 to2.
We are aiming to arrive for about >> I think gates open at 3:30 I think. So we're going to try and get there for a little bit after then. Then there's all that briefing and signing on and all that jazz in and Connor needs to try and adjust his door. But yeah, we're hoping for a bit of a hassle-free event. But this is a this is a test of both vehicles for me. I'm testing the recovery truck because I'm taking this to the ring if it's all good. And I want to test the micro for the track just to see if it's any good. So, we're going to find out today. We are going to find out now. It is a little bit wet, which is annoying. That track's probably going to be like an ice ring. Um, he going to let me out. He's letting me out. He's a boy.
>> Continue for one mile.
>> Yeah. So, what an hour and 50 minutes we have. We've got 70 miles. It's hour and 50 minutes to Cadwell from here. Will the truck make it? I've not done any more than 10 miles in this truck at one time, so I don't actually know. It's a bit of a shakeddown for the truck. We shall see. Connor's same. He's bought that recovery truck uh local as well. He got it from literally around here in Chesterfield. So, he's bought that. I mean, he's done a bit of razing about in that, so he's probably pretty confident in truck. He's just put four injectors in it. But the the MX5, he's not done anything in it at all. He's bought that and it's a little bit of a nail. Is what it is. I'm just going to go and test it today on track. See what happens. So, yeah, should be a fun day. Shame Connor's poorly cuz he's usually funny.
And uh he's been telling me all week about how MX5 is going to gap Micro and he's going to come past drifting and he's not going to do any of that. He's never even been on track. If he's going to come past me sideways across grass and I'm going to be laughing my head off. So, that's that's what I'm hoping is going to happen. Obviously, I don't want him to crash it into barrier or hurt him. But it will be funny if he spins it out across grass in front of me, won't it? That will be hilarious.
So, yeah, we'll uh I'll film as much as I can of this and we'll just see what happens. There's a few other people meeting us at Cadwell as well, so hopefully they're going to do a bit of filming for me exterior shots cuz I forgot nothing of the micro exterior.
So, hopefully I can get some exterior shots out of it as well. That's the plan. We'll shut up waffling. I'll uh we'll get on his way there and if anything funny happens along way well I'll get cameras out failing that we shall uh we'll see you at Cadwell.
Well, we are 45 minutes in or something like that or we've got 45 minutes left to go. So, we're a bit more than that so far.
Absolutely faultless. I mean, a triangle did come up on dash and I thought, "Oh god, what's that for?" It says, "Uh, check daytime running lights." So, I'm guessing we've lost a bulb. We can live with that, can't we? We're not too fussed on that. Other than that, she is driving a dream. Connors is faultless.
Mine's faultless.
She's a dream. Anyway, 45 minutes to go.
Let's get there.
Hey, It's windless. You know that I've never on my own. These three pisses over an hour and a half journey.
>> There's always one There's always one who forgets to do his briefing.
>> Said he did it, but I did it. [ __ ] did it again.
>> We've got to sit here waiting for him to do his briefing.
>> Always one.
>> That's not good.
>> Right, we got a sticker. Stick this on his car. Get it unloaded and we're going to have to go for noise testing, which is the bit we're worried about.
Hopefully, we're all good. Little straight Nathan your penis. That'll do. Right.
Let's get her off.
It's windy one, I tell you.
Straight wind, in it.
That's louder than this. Enjoy.
It's leaked all in foot well.
Oh, it's turned it all like jelly.
Should we get this going? Cuz it had a choke, doesn't it?
Don't know Connor. It's loud that we did test this back at Mad and we think it's going to pass, but it's loud.
That is choke on though.
Turn that off.
That's all she needs. A little dipped up.
It's windy as hell.
Only the bad thing is we don't have a reverse.
We're going to have to roll it.
Steering lock off.
Only bad thing about not having a reverse.
That'll do, donkey. That'll do.
Great. Lock truck up and we'll run down to noise testing, shall we?
And then we'll put some fuel in it after. We'll come back up here, put some juice in it. Yeah. Go and test them and I'll come back and put some juice in cuz we need to come for briefing anyway.
>> Test what?
>> Got to go for noise testing, aren't we?
9 years later.
So, which is going to break first then?
The Micro or the NX5?
Who knows?
You'll not need helmet, Connor. You not need helmet just for this. But what?
>> Oh, >> no. Cuz I'll be coming back up in a sec.
Literally going to go for test. Come back.
Come on.
>> What are you doing with fire extinguisher? Is that Wi-Fi?
>> Hey, >> is that Wi-Fi just just having it free floating?
>> Yeah.
Better than not it sound back ahead.
>> You worried?
>> I'm worried now.
I hear trailer. If it breaks, it breaks.
If it breaks, it breaks.
All right, noise test.
Hello.
>> All right. Can I have three of your red light, please?
>> Yeah.
>> Good evening, boss.
>> Thank you.
>> Help if I took brake off, would it?
Well, she passed. Don't know what it did. Did it write it on it? I don't know.
So, plan now. I will go back, fill it up with fuel, go for the uh briefing, and we'll be on after that.
Heat.
Heat.
That's it.
Screwering pass.
See if they wrote it on what it actually did. Oh, see if it just says past.
It says nothing. Just the date and noise test pass. Hey, happy days. We'll fill her with juice. Go for me brief and we'll get on track.
>> So far so good.
>> No, it did. It said 3/4 your rev range.
I'm going to think >> I went 3k now about five. So I held it at four.
>> Yes.
>> Didn't even check what I holding at about four, five, three. I couldn't hold it steady anyway.
Right then, boys. Hopefully you can hear me.
It's uh just starting laps at minute.
We'll see what happens.
So, just remember boys, I've not tested this on track at all.
This could go one or two ways. This might be a really short video, uh or it might be a really good video.
We might have a good time in this.
The only things I'm worried about, one, we are not running a sump baffle, which is rather stupid. If you those of you that are not sure what a sump baffle is or what a sump baffle does essentially on a motorbike all the bike does is lean as it's going around corners. Um so the oil just kind of don't really slush anywhere. Whereas in a car you're pulling a lot of geforce as you're going around corners. So the oil kind of slushes to one side. So a sump baffle is supposed to eliminate that. I don't have one of those. Um so yeah. Next problem is the radiator is rather small for this application.
So unsure whether the radiator is going to be efficient. I think if I'm going to have any issues, I think that might be the issue. The issue might be overheating, but we'll see. We're here to test it. And um it might work. It might not. We shall see.
Who knows?
To be fair, I'm guessing we're going to be out here a long time. I might just switch it off a minute.
Oh, never mind. We're on now.
So, actually a little bit of a chance to talk to you about a few things that we have um done to the car since the last video. I have uh I polished it. I gave it a little buff to make it look a bit prettier. But in one of my earlier episodes on this car, we're having a fuel cut issue. Now, the last time I went out in it and I went to Blightton, I gave it plenty plenty of stick and I didn't have any cutting issues. But after I read up quite a lot, a lot of people were saying that the original fuel pump gets really tired, especially when it's having to try and pump it twice the distance what it used to be pumping it. Um, plus the line is probably slightly thicker. So, I have put a quantum uprated fuel pump in there and now I've only literally fitted it in, ran it in the garage. I've not even driven it with this pump in. So, hopefully we've got no problems with that. Um, what else have I done? I've also put some coilovers on it which I got from uh a local lad to me. Now they are only cheap and cheerful. These are known to be able to retrofit Corsa B coilovers on there. Um yeah, so that's what I've done. We'll see. I don't know what that's going to be like. I have a feeling this guy in front of me is going to tug me for camera not been attached. I'm almost sure of it.
And if that's the case, I'm going to end up going back to Paddock.
He's going to tug me. I know for a fact he's going to tug me. Some nice cars here.
Very nice cars. Minis, cool cars. Wicked on track. A lot of K trims. A lot of Westfields again. Wicked cars on track.
MX5. Good car on track. There's There's a lot of I'm We're probably not going to do a lot here today, boys. I'll be honest. We're in a micro on 30 quid course of B coil. I was on four budgets.
So, we're probably not going to do a deal here today. We're probably going to get past quite a lot. But we're not here to race anyway. We're just here for a good time. Just to shake it down, see what it's what it'll sound well. Corner behind us. He definitely needs a piss.
He's had about nine pisses. I bet he's s car think he need a piss. Well, here we go. What we got to do? We got to wait.
They only taking so many out at a time.
I think they are, aren't they? I think they're only taking so many out at a time. This is where we're going to get collared for this [ __ ] camera. You watch.
No, >> we need that taken off. You can't have that there, buddy.
>> All right, no worries.
>> There we go. I told you so. I knew that were coming. My own stupid fault. I did see in the briefing that suction mount cameras do need to be tethered. I just forgot to do it. But although the guy seemed a little bit chirpy there, he wasn't. He was absolutely sound throughout the day. He was actually a really nice chap. He just basically said to me off camera when I turned it off, he said, "Just go and tether it, mate, and you can use it. That's absolutely fine." You're actually a sound guy. So, as we knew or as I thought we knew, we got collared for having camera not tethered. So, you guys got me in trouble. So, we're going to tether you guys up. We're going to tie wrap you up to uh up to that sun visor there. And then we are we're ready for paddock.
Well, so just just announced on Tanoi open pit lane has now commenced. Just in in the uh thingy laps, starting laps.
Obviously, you can't go for alpha level, but we can get a little feel for it. I tell you, it feels like it's going to be good on track this. So, let's get you tethered up. Let's go and find out.
Great.
You boys are tethered.
So yeah, again, even though it's not sign laps, we're not going to go out full race pace. We're just going to go and uh let's go and have a little build it up gently type thing.
Ready?
Now, just before we get into it, I am going to apologize in advance for all the breathing and grunting that you're going to hear me doing over these next clips. I actually s chuckling to myself and this is just seems to be my driving noises. So, apologies for that.
>> I've tethered that up to sun visor with a tire wrap. sorted.
>> Okay.
Diesel heat.
So, we're going to keep an eye on temperature. I'm probably not going to be talking much cuz I'm kind of concentrating on where we're going.
Just want to keep an eye on temperature mainly and familiarize myself with car.
Remember, I've not driven this on a track. So, it feels a bit bit scatty now. We're going faster.
So, yeah, we'll get these tires a bit warmed up. Couple of laps. See what's what.
That Audi in front stinks. Diesel car.
I don't know where Connor's gone, but he ain't nowhere to be seen.
Oh, she under steers. Under steers a lot.
These tires are not great at all.
We're getting a lot of tire roll.
Woohoo.
Little bit of lift off here. Should not have left off there.
So, it's smelling warm. I don't know if it's this or if it's somebody else's.
I think we're going to probably going to put them fans on just in case it is this.
Conor here. Look.
Has he got an issue or is he waiting for me?
Know if he knows that car is up his ass.
Some of it stinks.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
You know what? It don't feel too bad cuz I'm on cheap [ __ ] coilovers. It don't feel too bad at all. It's a catering behind me. We're going to let him pass in a minute cuz I think he's a bit faster.
Does not feel bad at all.
Temperature's all right.
Let him fast.
Heat. Heat.
Are we going to have this out here or what?
We got him.
I tell you what, we're [ __ ] going some. Apologize for my language.
We are getting warm though. I've noticed that temperature's going up a little bit. So, we need to keep an eye on that.
Yeah, we are going a bit up. So, we're going to have to calm down a little minute. Have a little calm down lap.
It's cooling down nicely anyway. It's not too bad at all. It's cooled down lovely. Temperature's gone straight back down. Just as I had that hot lap, then it were getting a little warm, which is what I thought were going to happen with this car. Radiator is very small for what it is. Tell you what though, it's a quick car. It holds its own on track.
We're just going to have one little bit of bit of calm down. We'll see if we can wait for Connor.
See if we can find Connor and then uh we'll get back on it.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
I tell you what, it's got plenty of power. You don't need to worry about the power. It's got plenty of power.
It went wheel spinning.
Heat. Heat.
on the limiter, boys.
Tell you what, though. This 335 in front of me is fast. Can't catch him.
Oh, we're getting warm, boys. We need to We need to pipe down a bit. We're getting warm. Well, I think so far I'm quite happy with that. I think Should we go back to paddocks?
Um, yeah, just have a quick check round.
So, the fault that I thought we were going to have is the fault we've got.
The car gets hot on the track. Um, the radiator is insufficient.
That's the thought that I that's the thing that I thought was going to be the problem. I mean, you just have to chill out a little bit, drive like this, and temp starts dropping again. But yeah, I did think that were going to be a problem for this car. So the solution, unsure, either a bigger, more sufficient radiator. But the problem is the reason I didn't put a big sufficient radiator in there space or lack of space. So uh oh, I think we're just going to have a minute cuz I am I think I'm as hot as car. I'll be honest with you. But yeah, mate, this car. What a car. To say I've built this car myself.
I'm having a blast then. I mean, I don't know what my faces were pulling or what, but I'm having a blast then. You see, we're back down to normal temperature again now. So, uh, we've used half a tank of fuel. So, we basically used 10 L of fuel.
Oh.
Oh yeah, we need a scoop on window. Oh my god, do I. That is what I need. I need a scoop on that window to direct air into my face like that. Oh, it's a That's beautiful. Right, I'm going to head back into paddock on this next one.
I don't know where Connor is. I'm assuming he's got issues cuz I haven't seen him on track.
I'm going to let car have a cool down.
I'm just going to get a quick spanner check. Give myself a quick cool down.
and get a drink and then we'll get back out there.
So, that was my first little stint on the track complete. Very pleased with it and I'm feeling much more confident in it. So much so, I'm about to go back out and this time we're going to really kick its head in. And I'm also going to treat you to just pure micro sound. You won't have to hear me breathing. Listen to this.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Oh, heat, heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Oh, right. It's uh I think it was 15 minutes at session left. So, let's just go and use what fuel I've got. Hey, I've got half a tank of juice.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Oh, along heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
I don't know what happened there, boys.
But I keep forgetting that I'm on camera. Probably voice over that bit.
But yeah, that just cut out there. I'm not too sure what happened. I had FI light flashing. Not too sure what happened. I think we'll probably put it back on truck while it's running. Hey, not too sure what happened there.
Yeah, she died.
Thought I killed it then, Connor.
>> Caught hard on me then.
>> Halfway around track it conked out. Ran out of fuel. I think I had to like free roll into pits.
No, I've just drove it back, but it cut out.
>> Oh, hang on. Not even on.
>> Well, chaps, that's uh that's all she wrote. We are on the way home. The micro survived the full evening track session.
Uh 3 hours 3 hours worth of giving it death, really. I mean, I've literally only come in a few times and I've been out pretty much the whole time we were there. So, we've got some problems to sort. We need to sort the cooling situation out. If I can keep the engine cool with a bigger radiator, then I'd have a much better time. I feel like the car is very capable. I I could keep it on pace if I could keep the thing cool.
Every time I get into it, it starts uh starts overheating, giving me trouble.
you manage to get like I don't know three or four three quarter send laps and then as soon as you go in for them two hot laps you start getting warm. So yeah, it's a bit of a shame nonetheless.
Believe me, I've had fun tonight. Apart from the little hiccup at the end there where it cut out, I don't think that's anything to worry about. I think we just ran low on fuel and uh I think we've come around bending. I think pumps picked up a bit dry and it's uh just being fi light on to save itself. So, cuz it started straight back up as we saw, apart from me trying to hill start uphill, which were embarrassing. It's not easy to hill start that car. Yeah, I'm pretty pleased with it, boys. I really hope you've enjoyed this. Not only have we did the micro shakeddown, we've done a nice little drive in the truck. The truck drives a dream, mate.
That drives a dream. I'm not even worried about taking this to Germany.
The truck drives an absolute dream. So, all in all, we have got two great builds, both tested. Um, yeah. I think that's it. Is it? On to the next one. Don't know what's going to be next. I I do actually. We're going to be probably saving my Westfield. That's probably going to be my next video.
Probably rescuing that from its little hell hole where it's been sat for 6 years since my little crotch gremlins came along. I've never touched it for 6 years and it's sat absolutely buried.
So, maybe next episode we're going to be saving that. So, if you're into this type of thing, uh, I appreciate you watching. Feel free to hit the subscribe button. Uh, I appreciate all of you.
Thank you for watching. We'll see you in next video. Peace out.
