Stacking audio effects pedals in series, such as combining a reverb pedal (Strymon Nightsky) with a phaser pedal (DBA Moonbeam), creates complex, layered soundscapes where the reverb adds depth and spatial dimension while the phaser introduces stereo panning and filter modulation, resulting in rich, evolving textures that can be further enhanced by modulating the filter and drive parameters on each pedal.

Pairing up the Strymon Nightsky and DBA Moonbeam (feat. Elektron Digitone II)Added:
[music] Hey, what's up everyone? It's Dusk Mo and today I've got the Stryman Night Sky and the Death by Audio Moon Beam. Let's check them out.
[music] So, for this Signal Colors layers video, I'm pairing up these two to hear how they sound working in series. That's one after the other with the Digitone 2 acting as the source going into the night sky which is a what's called a timed warped reverberator. And uh it's got a lot of interesting features. Um some of them being shimmer and this uh drive section glimmer um a texture.
You've got this like pitch and you can modulate and uh change up the reverb, pitch, filter. Yeah, lots of stuff going on. There's presets. You can actually even jump through presets if you want to in tempo and morph between settings. So, a lot going on with this one. And then the Moon Beam is a a little bit more straightforward. It's a phaser and it does some really cool stereo panning.
It's in stereo mode. If you can see it there, it's lit with the S. That means it's in stereo mode. And you've got different sort of characteristics, filtering styles and stuff here with the middle selector in frequency and depth.
As I mentioned, the Digitone 2 is acting as the sound source and it's currently on loan to me from my affiliate partner zones.com. So, if you're interested in checking out that or the Night Sky or the Phaser, I've got links in the description below. All of them aren't going to be affiliate links, but um hey, check them out if you're in the market anyway. Okay, so I always like to start with my clean pattern, which in this case sounds like this, [music] [music] which as you can hear sounds like what it sounds like. Um, [music] and I'm going to turn on and off different elements as we go. [music] But actually, I'll just start here so you can hear the sparseness and kind of the randomness. I do have some trig condition set up on the digitone. So, uh, not all of the triggs [music] will fire.
Keeps things interesting. But let's go ahead and introduce the night sky, which will fill in those gaps. [music] So, here we go.
[music] Already sounds so much more lovely.
[music] >> [music] [music] [music] >> which is pretty cool. It's got an infinite mode.
[music] So you can kind of hold.
There you go. You can hear that held pitch.
Got a mix section so we can bring in a little more of the reverb. [music] Holding on to that high note.
[music] But pretty fun.
Got high cut and low cut on the filter so you can [music] allow a little more of the low end in there [music] or back it out. It's really handy to have something like that top level [music] just in case it gets a little muddy. Can change the interval of the voicing.
[music] [music] >> [music] [music] >> some really [music] unnatural sounding reverb in a cool way.
[music] Can also introduce drive pre [music] or post. It's off right now, but There's some [music] pre post post. [music] [music] You change up the modulation here.
>> [music] >> and the shape of the waveform of the modulation [music] of the drive. You can make it sound pretty wonky if you want. [music] [music] [music] >> [music] >> You could sync this if you wanted to.
[music] You got random.
Let's go back to this one. [music] Keep it kind of chill.
Kind of [music] mellow it out.
>> [music] >> Now let's do some mood beam. [music] [music] Really cool display. You can hear that reflected as it pans. [music] >> [music] >> can really up the depth of this.
[music] Got different like kind of resonances [music] and filter [music] frequency bands.
[music] I can really make it intense, which is cool.
Make it real obvious. [music] [music] [music] I watch my levels a little bit.
[music] Heat. Heat.
[music] [music] Glory [music] glory glory glory [music] glory glory glory glory glory glor glor glor glor glor glor glor glor glor glory [music] glor glor glor glor glor glor glor glor glor glory glory glory [music] glory glory really speed it up. Get that audio rate.
[music] It's crazy if you can see that on camera how fast that [music] so cool.
>> [music] >> I like how the color changes depending on the mode. [music] >> It's the little things.
[music] [music] >> [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Change up the texture.
[music] Oh yeah.
Yeah. [music] [music] >> [music] [music] [music] >> Whoa.
[music] Let's [music] [music] modulate the filter.
Just going to get the filter mod on the reverb.
Let's [music] bypass the moon beam.
[music] [music] Get a [music] more of a pronounced effect.
[music] Kind of trying to [music] match the tempo here.
All right, now let's throw the moon beam on top. [music] >> [music] >> Some crazy stuff in the headphones.
[music] [music] [music] Heat. Heat.
[music] [music] Heat. Heat.
[music] [music] I [music] wow.
[music] I [music] Yeah. [music] Yeah.
[music] [music] [music] >> [music] [music] [music] [music] >> We're just floating out in outer space [music] now.
>> [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Bypass the nice guy.
[music] >> [music] [music] >> Bring it back.
[music] [music] are [music] [music] [music] you are [music] you are you are you >> [music] >> wild.
[music] [music] >> [music] >> Heat. Heat.
[music] Wow.
[music] Wow.
[music] [music] [music] >> [music] [music] >> And there we go.
That was the Stryman night sky into the moon beam. And that was a lot of fun.
[laughter] I think stacking the um modulation on the night sky of the reverb with the shimmer and glimmer stuff going on and then throwing that into the moon beam with its own panning and you know filter mod type stuff going on. That's a pretty wild combination. And you can kind of have them working with each other or you know slightly out of sync. It's cool being able to choose the destination of the modulation on the night sky and then also on the moon beam having the different moon phases there to choose between and kind of target certain bands. But yeah, tons of space, tons of modulation going on between these two. You do have to watch the resonance. When you get that depth up really high and you're feeding it a lot of, I don't know, sonic information, it can get pretty intense as it happened a couple times, but sounded good throughout. And I'm curious what you think. So, leave me a comment and let me know. I had a good time, though. On that note, I thank you so much for watching and I'll see you next time.
