Hang Tuah: Hero or Myth?Ajouté :
He's in the school syllabus. His quote is on government buildings. His statue is everywhere. Historians think he might be completely made up.
>> [music] >> When historians looked for actual contemporary historical evidence, records written while he was supposedly alive, they found almost nothing.
The Portuguese took detailed records when they conquered Malacca in 1511.
They documented the sultan, the warriors, the political structure. Hang Tuah's name does not appear. Chinese trade records from the same period, nothing. Arabic accounts, nothing. He appears in just one major source, the Hikayat Hang Tuah, an epic written roughly a century after he supposedly lived, by which point the story had grown considerably.
Which puts him in interesting company.
King Arthur of Camelot also has zero contemporary historical evidence, also appears centuries later in texts, also may or may not have existed. Real or not, he said something that lasted. Tak akan Melayu hilang di dunia. And maybe that's enough. Next time, one empire ruled Southeast Asian trade for 600 years. You've probably never heard of it. Don't forget to like and subscribe.
