It Runs Again… So Why Won’t This 1939 Crane Move?Added:
And on today's episode, we're screwed.
>> Crane update.
>> Crane update.
>> Where are we at? What are you doing?
>> Well, after getting it running, it was still probably only running on a couple cylinders. So, or missing on a couple cylinders. So, now I am rebuilding a different style early Ford distributor, which I have more parts for, and I'll have the correct terminal plates, so it will run good. It won't be missing. If all that's good, goes on the motor, it runs well, then we can run it and put some actual power to all the moving components to see if we can get the crane to move today. Whether that's the turret moving or whether it's actually propelling forward. Brain update. Uh we have more things that move now than we did previously. Uh currently chiseling away at 50 years of grease and dirt in the back. So, this is the uh yolk that takes us from death spin to forward and reverse. Here, >> we got this arm freed up. We're trying to get the rear >> paw to break free, which hasn't happened yet.
>> Of course not.
>> Yeah. So, I think that just moves probably just the small shaft. I think slides up and down and then maybe the whole thing rotates inside the outer one.
>> How much of this is just going to be a fire pit?
>> All of it.
>> All of it.
>> It's just like grease and PV blaster soaked pit and I'm going to be torching everybody soon.
>> I don't see the problem. The people will see the problem.
>> They will.
>> I have not ever seen so many comments about working over an open fan before in my life.
>> It's just a fan.
>> It's literally just a fan. The belt was loose enough that you probably could have stuck your whole arm in the fan.
>> You could have caught it bare-handed, but how do you explain that?
>> You ever caught a ceiling fan?
>> Yeah, exactly.
>> Yeah, >> it hurts your knuckles, but like it doesn't actually like cut your hand off.
>> We're going to tighten the belt. We'll put our hands in there. See if it actually cuts hands off.
>> Tune in later.
>> Uh Jared, >> I guess I might as well have you man the pedal and you can try hammering on it or or just pumping it. This is the pedal in question. That's not >> It's a nice pedal.
>> Yeah, >> it's moving of its own accord. That's >> Oh, yeah.
>> Something never a good sign when Eric brings the short out. The best sign.
>> It could be the best sign.
Oh yeah. Oh yeah.
Yeah. Moving >> PB Blaster. We're still waiting on that phone call, guys. It'd mean a lot. You know, we're only >> Oh my.
>> Oh jeez.
>> Oh yeah.
>> I told you to quit smoking in there.
Viewers are also concerned we're not wearing respirators. Is this one of those instances?
>> No, I don't think so.
>> Okay.
>> C Blaster is clearly not toxic.
>> It's going to lube the lungs.
>> There's plenty of fresh air out.
>> We are. And look at all these trees.
Like look at this.
The trees are soaking up all the carbon dioxide as we speak.
>> Fresh as [ __ ] out there, son.
>> Known to the state of cancer to cause California.
>> Oh no, not California.
Trump.
>> They are coming.
>> Three people out of 50,000 are going to catch that reference, but I'm here for it.
>> What's that?
>> You wouldn't understand.
>> You wouldn't get it because you refuse to watch the movies with me.
>> I don't refuse. I I'm delaying my gratitude to seeing Lord of the Rings.
You have no power here.
>> Barely though. Mine is barely moving.
>> And on today's episode, we're screwed.
>> It's not even lunchtime yet. You can't say we're screwed just yet.
>> I know.
>> Or not. We don't finish the crane, we're going to lose the shop.
>> It all rides on this.
>> It's like a turtle. Carries his home.
>> Total. I like totals.
>> Did I say total?
>> Playboy. As our new character, can you explain to the people how you got the name Playboy?
>> Yeah. I was wearing a Playboy shirt and then they all just decided that that was going to be my name and it's been 3 years now. So, >> no sign of stopping.
>> Nope. Uh, so I'm going to finish this exhaust pipe. Jared's going to continue excavating dirt from the mid rear section of the crane, which is yet to be discovered. Be a lot of raptor claws in there that's going to come out. Playboy and Sarah. We're gonna You guys are on track duty. We're going to mix up some acetone trans fluid.
>> 40 to 60° ratio >> specifically.
>> Specifically a 40 to 60° ratio according to the internet. And uh we're going to start soaking down the tracks in the corduroys, >> right? New term we learned.
>> Corduroys.
>> That's what those are called. Based on the corduroy roads from back in the day, which is where the fabric for your pants, shirts, coats, your full leisure suit gets the name.
>> The more you know, >> the more you know.
>> More you know.
>> What's What's the mixture supposed to be?
>> 40 to 60° ratio.
>> More transfu acetone or what?
>> Oh, that's a great question.
>> Let us know in the comments below.
>> Comments below.
>> I mean, it will be too late, but we still want to know. I'm just going to mix some stuff and just see what happens.
>> Let's just go 50/50.
>> That's kind of 10% can't hurt.
>> This is a little known fact. That's where McDonald's Sprite comes from.
>> This thing is garbage. Give it a Give it a good shake.
>> Oh, >> yeah. Me and Jarrett have been messing with torching all the >> What are we calling it? The yolk.
>> What is that? Propulsion to swing clutch fork yolk.
>> Exactly.
>> Can you abbreviate that for us?
>> No, >> that thing. Uh, we've got that heated and now it's moving and doing stuff.
>> And yeah, so we need some more excavation to be done in this region so we can heat some of these levers back here. There's some levers here that definitely going to need some heat.
>> See, I'm more of the like make it run and then break everything loose sort of mentality on this. It could go either way. We want to break things loose, not break them off.
>> Again, off is also loose.
>> Take slack out of it.
>> Take slack out.
>> Take the slack out.
>> Vietnam. So, that doesn't look like exhaust piping, but uh sure seems like you're going to use it for that.
>> That's exactly what this is. Is exhaust piping.
>> Oh, >> yeah. Do a little angle cut there.
>> Yeah. It's a super high flow exhaust system.
>> Well, a flathead has no flow anyway, so >> Exactly. Yeah. This actually flows better than the stock exhaust manifold.
Put that in there like that.
A [ __ ] off. So, presently right now, we've got a differential fluid change going on. More dirt work and shaft play going on. And Jared's master of that.
Playboy's in here doing the Lord's work on the manifold. And perhaps some belt tensioning. What are you doing over there?
>> I'm moving the governor. It's on wrong.
It should be on the other side of this bracket or this mounting point.
>> That way we don't chuck through a belt.
>> Yeah, >> that'd be good. And then Sarah's under here still prying things free.
>> Attempting to >> attempt.
>> It's, you know, uh, a delicate process.
>> Oh, there's still mouse traps under here.
>> Um, if there is, I haven't found them yet. I'm going to hope there's not.
>> That's dangerous cuz I'm pretty sure there is.
>> There probably is. Is there? We've got the Eric Hansen welding up some top of the line plumbing exhaust manifolds here getting better than that.
>> The most high flow thing ever.
>> Absolutely.
>> Look at that.
>> That is flawless performance. That crane is going to zing.
>> Oh yeah.
>> Still waiting on that phone call.
Mountain Dew, we're waiting.
Eric, I was told by a former employee that if I take that MIG gun and I just spot on and off, on and off, on and off, that is a weak, inconsistent weld. Is that the truth?
>> Are you saying because that's exactly what I did there?
>> That is what I'm saying.
>> Well, yes. In this instance, it's also, you know, ran a piece of hot rolled plasma out quarterinch plate hooked to a piece of galvanized plumbing pipe hooked to a cast piece of black iron plumbing pipe. None of those are a good combination of stuff. And it's also not holding back any sort of pressure other than whatever we call exhaust pressure, which is virtually >> and a flathead is nothing.
>> Virtually nothing. So, uh, yeah, it just kind of needs to do what the last one did, which is this exact same setup for the last 80 years. And so, if this one lasted 80 years, I'm perfectly fine with that.
>> So, are you going to quench that or?
>> Yeah. You want to give me give me a hit?
>> Yeah. And we'll use our sponsor here.
>> Ah, perfect. Refreshing and satisfying.
Now it's sticky. Now we got ants.
>> Oh, you're going to have ants.
>> This actually smells really good. That's impressive.
>> I'm just glad no water at all came. I know.
>> I took the fill out first just in case.
>> I thought for sure there'd be water in there. So So that's good.
>> So what's your situation with the differential?
>> Is that supposed to be We pulled the plug and nothing came out but this.
>> Is that bad?
>> It's not great.
>> Could be worse.
>> Uh yeah. So, we're going to put gear oil back in it. I don't know what's supposed to be in there, but it looks like gear oil would be in it.
>> Question mark.
>> Question mark.
>> Oh, man.
>> Are you getting it?
>> You like that?
>> You like that?
>> Oh, [ __ ] >> Are you using PB Blaster again?
>> We are.
>> They haven't sponsored us yet. We're not going to use their product.
>> No, I've had to buy and buy and buy cases and cases of it.
>> Well, that's just money losing. Let's go to WD from here on out. They at least like us.
>> Never fighting words.
>> That's a good point. I'm sorry.
>> Just kidding.
>> If we're to keep working on the on the crane, you should probably buy stock in PV Blaster for as much as we're going to be using.
>> Financial update.
>> We got you.
>> Financial update.
>> Otherwise, we're excavating back in between the gears, pulleys, cables, and whatnot.
>> There's a lot more crane back there than what I thought there was. Yes.
>> Oh yeah.
>> Oh yeah.
>> Oh yeah. Oh yeah.
>> And this concludes the crane update.
>> Crane outtake.
>> Is this Simon character with >> Simon Fores?
>> He's on YouTube. I guess I'm just going to kill myself.
>> Shout out Simon Forman.
>> Is this a collaboration attempt right here?
>> Buddy is named dropping Simon.
>> He has like twohour long videos and it just of him working silently on on motors and [ __ ] Have you ever considered doing that? Working on it silently?
>> It's all coming together.
>> It's all coming together.
>> Thank you.
>> Do you have much experience handling pipe like that?
>> I have experience giving pipe.
>> Laying pipe. Actually, >> laying pipe.
This is a weird way to do an exhaust.
This is a very strange thing.
Say well since I've never had to use a pipe wrench pipe wrench attach.
>> All right. I noticed you're using an adjustable handle croissant wrench.
>> Exactly. Yes.
>> That's what the people decided. It's all over.
>> It's croissant.
>> Croissant.
>> Croissant.
>> Something high in that sucker thread in there.
>> I'm working on it.
>> I'm fixing to fix it.
>> Fixing to fix it. That's salt. That looks like it'll work.
>> Lift it up, play boy.
>> Lift what up? This?
>> Yeah.
>> Angle it up.
>> It's ready.
>> All right, let's go.
>> Eric, I just want you to know we're all counting on you.
Good luck.
>> No, don't jump.
>> And may the force be with you.
>> Crack update.
It's got him.
That's going to be a whole another nightmare.
>> Right now we are riding the lightning.
>> Ride the light.
>> The autism is tisming.
>> I hear it.
>> It's like the crackle right before it strike.
>> We'll just get them belts all back on and I want to fire this thing up here pretty soon and see what we can get make happen. So get on it. Belt patrol.
>> Okay. Can you I'm going to go get faster.
>> This is done. I >> You're on camera. Say something to the people.
>> Now that the pressure's on, it really is kind of It's jerking them up a little bit.
>> What do I say? I don't know what to do with my hands.
>> I really need you to address your future fans. Can you do that for me?
>> My future fans?
>> Oh, yeah.
>> Ah, well, they're sure not current.
>> Exactly.
>> I like that. That shot was just all your arm. That pan. That was just straight straight arm. Pretty sure that's how the army got its name.
I'm sorry that was that was bad. I'm just going to stop cut. Have >> to figure out which way's backwards lefty.
>> Did you change it to wombo?
>> Huh?
>> Wombo.
>> W for wombo.
>> It's first grade.
>> Seeombo. Wombology. The study of wombo.
>> I don't know.
>> How do you not know these things?
>> Memories for I don't I don't know. He's too young for this group >> in the first place. That's the problem.
>> I practically hear it whistle over the top of his head.
>> Smooth.
>> Smooth, son.
>> I'm having trouble matching the paint of this crane. Can you tell us what we're doing to match the paint?
>> Well, it's lead based uh like a caterpillar yellow. So, we're going to take lead shadings and put it in yellow caterpillar >> in modern >> in modern paint because we can't find lead paint cuz some reason they don't make it anymore.
>> It's got to be authentic.
>> Well, 100%.
restoration.
>> Absolutely.
>> Do you explain exactly what logo you're describing right now? Cuz this is not our usual viewer base. This will be good. We'll expand our horizons.
>> Yeah. Today we have employed with us a young man who uses vernacular unbeknownst to us.
>> We haven't understood.
>> On God.
>> What type [ __ ] >> No ky.
>> No ky.
>> Does anyone know what is >> type [ __ ] I don't use no On God.
>> On God.
>> I say that literally on God. If I hear that one more time today, >> trust.
>> Trust.
>> Now, is busing still in or is that >> we busing? All right. Cool.
>> Are we busing?
>> Where are we busing to?
>> Busing right now.
>> We are going to start the uh rig again.
And we have our exhaust actually hooked up now. Um mostly. and we are still waiting on USPS to send us our ignition parts. Um, they would have had a better chance sending it by carrier pigeon.
Since we are waiting on them, we're going to go ahead and try to start the engine again anyways, uh, without the radiator hooked to it and run it for a short amount of time so it doesn't get too hot. And we're going to try to activate some more levers and controls that we've since gotten everything broke free.
>> Sounds good.
>> Wish us luck.
>> All right, so you're going to be in charge of running the levers when the motor gets started. Are you nervous?
>> Yeah. I don't know what I'm doing. Well, none of us do. So, you're better equipped than most. At least you're sitting in the chair.
>> Hell yeah, brother.
>> Yes.
>> Every lever that you think does what it does, doesn't it?
>> The lever that you're holding on to in the left operates the boom up and down.
>> Okay, >> that's all I know.
>> Okay.
>> Everything else >> So, these are a mystery.
>> Good luck.
Wow.
What the hell? So he was in the motor >> somewhere. Oh yeah, he came running out as soon as we started it.
>> He's mad as hell.
>> One of those flathead centipedes.
>> Oh yeah.
>> Usually only see those in Arizona.
>> So what gear?
>> Uh I just had it first.
>> Do we want to try a different gear? See what that does?
>> Sure. Maybe when it's running, I'll try to pull it off.
>> Speed shift this [ __ ] Bank shifted.
>> Oh [ __ ] I might.
>> Uh Alec, were you were you feeling any feedback at all?
>> No, nothing from anything. Okay.
>> I'm doing the most awkward [ __ ] maneuvers.
>> It looks good. Four different levers at the same time.
>> I seen anything change.
>> No, I didn't either.
>> How much cable do we have left on the winch cable?
>> Not a whole hell of a lot.
>> Something.
>> Yeah.
>> Jared's going to try moving gears. You try doing something.
>> Something. Okay. Right.
>> Contact. Hit it.
Heat up I I shut the throttle down. So >> yeah, I didn't want to put too much more heat in this motor.
>> I went first, second, third, >> so that So that's a normal configur. So we're still >> could not get >> a reverse of any sort >> anything over here. So but it does lock out from that.
>> I guess I didn't try putting it just here and trying it.
>> I try that real quick.
I don't know.
>> Sure. Wish my manual was here.
>> Hey, wait.
>> Give that one some rip.
>> Moving. It's moving all the way back here. [ __ ] yeah. Oh, it's moving a lot more up here.
Holy [ __ ] Well, I'm giving it some pry.
>> Both of these are engaging.
>> Want to keep going or is anything else happening?
>> That feels like right there it feels like it goes a lot further.
>> Okay. Uh let's go for the middle one.
>> Okay.
>> Oh, that one's not doing a whole lot.
>> That one looks like it only gets pulled back and it's got a blockoff plate that keeps it from going forward.
>> Yeah. And I'm not getting a lot of pry.
That looks like it's starting to loosen up, Alex. Both of them, actually.
>> Sweet.
>> Where?
>> I'm just going to keep doing this.
>> It slides back. Oh, >> we're just You help me or was that me?
>> Uh, I'm helping. Yeah.
>> Okay.
>> Where's that acetone at?
>> Uh, I thought you had it left.
>> I have it on.
>> Oh, >> it's moving back for me. At least >> that's way better.
Now you're cranking. Look at that.
>> It looks the same.
>> What's that?
>> Definitely moving, >> dude.
>> I don't The forks are moving like this.
>> Okay.
>> But the actual throw bearing is >> move more to kind of >> Yeah. Throw bearings are They're moving, but they're just super gummed up with >> Wonder.
He's not moving.
>> Yeah, he does not move.
>> They're not moving.
>> It's exactly what the people want to see.
>> Pull it.
Oh yeah, >> I'm I'm fired up.
>> Okay, good.
>> He Maybe centipede's back and he's mad. He is pissed.
>> Big centipede.
>> Oh god. Not again.
>> Not again.
>> Where's Dominic? It's put on by big centipede.
>> Big centipede.
>> You got big carb and big centipede working together.
>> Big tree took my cousin.
>> What are we thinking?
>> Started again.
>> Yeah.
>> I'm kind of I'm kind of thinking maybe >> change something.
>> We let the motor cool off and we try to get down in here and try to get some more [ __ ] out from between the teeth of the gears.
>> Yeah. If we could get honestly like this shaft and stuff all covered back here, like from here back in this section, that's where all the pivot points are for these things. This one's pretty free, but that one's really buried with crap.
>> Then we can get in there and start.
>> I'm almost kind of thinking it's the two different levers that operate these forks cuz this one's barely moving. I mean, it's it's kind of a little bit, but they're both linked to the same shaft. Yeah.
>> Crane update.
>> Crane update. Well, we are trying to get these two big drums back here to engage, which is the differential, which gives us power to either propel the track tracks forward or the turret. First, it was all seized up, these throw up bearing type uh actuators, but we are slowly but surely getting them unstuck uh by a series of penetrating oils and uh hammers, briars, >> the clutch, >> bumping the clutch, >> pulling levers.
>> Yes.
>> Yes. So, right now, we're going to let the motor cool back down for a bit and continue Okay, go for it.
seize from. It's not rusted. Like, it is moving. It's just like so gummed up with like >> just dried grease.
>> That's kind of what I mean is like will the heat help that?
>> It probably could melt it out or something.
>> [ __ ] We got the torch out here. Throw it up. Please >> look over my shoulder and there's 9 ft of cameraman above me.
>> I can see myself.
>> You done this before?
>> My first day on Earth.
>> What?
>> I remember my first day on Earth. on the river.
>> Oh yeah. Oh yeah.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Start moving.
That's fun.
Heat up here.
Okay. Well, [ __ ] looked like it was moving a bunch. Soak rack grease soaked grass down this creass here.
>> Oh, creass.
>> A creass.
>> Is that related to a croissant? Was >> cool.
>> That was perfect.
>> Incredible.
>> Yeah.
>> All right.
>> Give me some Give me some fuel pump, boy.
>> Boy, >> ready.
>> Contact.
Well, motor is running a little bit better today and we got a lot of components broke loose and moving. We think we know what this stuff does back here, which is the turret and propulsion. And we're slowly getting slowly but surely getting all the many, many, many levers and bell cranks and shafts uh broke free and turning. It's a long process, but next time we're going to get the thing to either turn or the tracks to walk. Right now, it's stuck in turn in alligator death spin, so we'll see what happens.
>> All right, I hear it's time to give away some raptor claws.
>> It is indeed. Uh, so first up we have Sandold 666, the fine gentleman this named named crane. Snort, you get a claw. Hit us up. Uh, secondly, we have Matt Mononttoya on Facebook. Uh, his comment was about the Big Tree conspiracy. It's true. Big tree took my cousin. He still hangs there. A+.
>> So, get in touch with us. Send us a message if you've won and who knows, we might give out a few more if we see some other cool comments. So, let us know.
>> Going to move on. Back to work. Chop chop. Let's go.
