[00:31:47]Welcome to the commencement of Cape Central High School's class of 26. We are gathered here tonight to recognize and celebrate the accomplishment of our seniors who through boundless support, encouragement, and determination are here to accept their diplomas.

[00:32:04]Graduates, I encourage you to take a moment to look up and around at the people that helped you get to this place in this very moment. I think I speak for all of us and say that we wouldn't have been able to do this without the support, encouragement, and challenge offered to us by our teachers. Yes, they taught us the course objectives, but beyond that, they taught us discipline, responsibility, and that you can do so much more than you think you can if you allow yourselves to be challenged.

[00:32:34]Thank you teachers for preparing us to overcome and believe in ourselves. And seated in between and beside them are amilies who have been with us from day one. They've given us both tough love and unconditional love and seen us through our highs, lows, and idols. When we struggled to find the strength to keep going during hard times, they became our strength. Thank you families for being our anchor when we thought we would be swept away by all the things at us. It seems like just yesterday we had our parents pack our lunches, kiss our cheeks, and send us off to our first day of kindergarten with our brightly colored backpacks. But today, we stand on the brink of our tomorrow. One part of us eager to never look around a 30 lb backpack or worry about an 1159 deadline. But the other part is sad in the bittersweet sense that this could be the very last time we are all together under one roof to celebrate each other.

[00:33:32]Look within yourself and see that everything you need to succeed is within you and around you. Look around at your fellow graduates and see how even though we all come from different life circumstances, we can still go the distance. Let that sit in your heart and encourage you as you face this next chapter. Thank you all for being here today and welcome to graduation 2026.

[00:36:47]In 2013, we walked into kindergarten filled with excitement and joy. We looked forward to sunny days on the playground, carefree afternoons in a world without worries about grades, homework, or even growing up. Elementary school felt simple for most of us. It was made, people who would become part of our lives for years, and created memories we didn't realize would matter.

[00:37:16]As went on things began to change.

[00:37:19]Middle school and junior high brought new challenges. Some of our friends ended up in different classes and many of us started trying to figure out who we were and where we belong. Then changed everything. It changed the way we learned, the way we ate lunch, and the way we connected with each other. It gave us a completely different perspective on life. Some people may say we lost our education during that time.

[00:37:46]The fact that we are here today proves that we adapted, persevered, and kept moving forward. By the time we entered high school, life began to feel normal again. We returned to seven classes a day, crowded hallways and lunches together. The biggest question became what we wanted our future to look like.

[00:38:08]Everyone told us not to.

[00:38:12]But now looking back, those four years And here we are today sitting together and waiting to receive our us.

[00:38:37]But standing here, it's not the big moment that come on. The conversations we never the that lost days.

[00:38:50]It's funny how we are now because somewhere along the way they us moment.

[00:39:24]The truth is we've already memories the proof that weap So as we move forward enough congratulations class we made Please join me in welcoming a familiar face to the program. A scholar of English education and a devoted member of the CHS faculty for the last four years. This year's speaker was handpicked by the class of 26 between his As a high school teacher, sponsor of the CHS robotics team, and a college adjunct teacher, he finds balance through longist running, writing poetry, and spending time with his wife, Elizabeth. He's an incredibly conscientious mentor in the class who is truly loved by his students. Please join me in welcoming our 2026 faculty speaker, Mr. David Good evening students, faculty, and family members. I want to begin by thanking the class of 2026 for selecting me as their guest speaker. This is nothing short of an honor to stand before you to address you in the final moments before your time at K public schools is over.

[00:41:31]The class of 2026 holds a a very special place in my heart. For those of you who don't know me, I began my teaching career in fall 2022, which would have been the start of this class's freshman year. Just as many of you were likely nervous at the beginning of high school, I felt that same trepidation upon entering these halls.

[00:41:55]While it was my job to teach you, I can't help but look back and think about how much more you taught me instead. I I would not be the teacher I am today if it were not for the connections, memories, and the lessons that I both taught and learned with this class over the course of these four past years.

[00:42:18]Many of you who are freshman here may remember the very first text we read in English, Homer's The Odyssey. It recounts the journey of the great Odysius as he struggles to make his way home after encountering numerous difficulties in his travels at the end of the Trojan War. Odysius's journey reflects a well-known plot structure, the hero's journey. Countless stories from pop culture such as Star Wars and the Hunger Games have emulated the same structure.

[00:42:46]What I love most about the hero's journey is that it reflects the human experience. It wonderfully encapsulates the way navigate transitional periods in their lives. So often we're called out of our comfort zones, thrusted into a new environment, given mentors and companions who help us to navigate the trials of life and undergo a series of changes that alter us for the better or for worse.

[00:43:11]Metaphorically speaking, since the fall of 2022, both the class of 2022, sorry, uh class of 2026 and I have taken our own heroes journey. It is important to note, however, that the hero's journey never truly ends. While the Odyssey has a happy ending for its hero, Odysius is thrust back into adventure yet again.

[00:43:34]Toward the end of his story, he's commanded to leave his home to offer sacrifices to Poseidon in another land.

[00:43:41]Likewise, class of 2026, you may have ended your journey through the halls of our school, but after this ceremony tonight, your next journey begins. I to impart four specific points of advice to you this evening as you prepare for your next journey.

[00:43:59]I want to begin by stressing the importance of learning. Many of you likely have senioritis or some measure of academic burnout by this point. I think the author of Ecclesiastes said it best that of making many books there is no end and much study is a weariness to the flesh. However, despite how exhausting studying can be, I want to encourage all of you to continue learning as much. as you can outside school. Over the past four years, you've been given the resources and means to explore countless subjects. And now, as you enter the adult world, you'll have the freedom to use your educational foundation as a means to continue learning. We live in such a vibrant world with a myriad of possibilities to explore. And any of us who refuse to take the advantage to learn as much as they can is selling themselves short. I can promise you that you Find something you are interested in and seek to learn as much as you can about that thing. You will never regret such an endeavor.

[00:44:59]With this encouragement to become a lifelong learner also comes a measure of responsibility. The second responsibility I wish to charge you with tonight requires you to sift through what is false and to discover what is true. The technology of the 21st century is a blessing in many ways.

[00:45:17]internet allows us to have any question answered at the click of a button.

[00:45:22]However, lies can spread just as quickly. You have learned uh you have spent the last four years of your education learning how to separate the truth from falsehood. I wish that I could tell you in the adult world to find the truth. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. As you seek to learn and grow as individuals, as you strive to find what is true, please stay educated in regard to what happens in your communities and in your country. Form opinions based on reality, on logic, and on concern for the well-being of other people. Strive to find what is true. For in the end, above all things, truth be the victory. Of course, you are likely to run into many trials in the next few years. I distinctly remember my own high school graduation and how underprepared I was for the challenges I would face during the formative years of my adulthood.

[00:46:19]During many of these difficulties I clung to a quote from my favorite author Makami in his memoir on marathon running what I talk about when I talk about running. He compares his experience as an as an athlete to his career as a writer. And at one point he claims that pain is inevitable suffering is optional. Say you're running and you think this I can't take it anymore. The hurt part is an unavoidable reality. But whether or not you stand anymore is up to the runner.

[00:46:50]I think this is an accurate depiction of how we must approach difficulties in our lives in all areas. Whether we be athletes, writers, or learners. At some point, we are bound to face some measure of difficulty in our lives. However, the pain we experience in our lives does not have the power to stop us from moving forward. As you all continue your journey toward your future goals, think on this. See the challenges you are presented with as an avenue for learning and not as a roadblock to your future endeavors.

[00:47:21]And the last piece of advice I wish to give you requires you to go backward instead forward.

[00:47:28]My high school, as many do, had the tradition of allowing seniors to select one quote to be remembered by that would be placed below their photo.

[00:47:38]was from JD Salinger's The Catcher of the Ride. Don't ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody.

[00:47:45]I made countless memories throughout high school and even more during college. And the longer I think on these memories and the people I shared with, the more I miss them. The longer I think these memories of these four years, the more I miss you. Many of you may never see each other again, and there will never be another moment where your entire graduating class is in the same building working through shared experiences together. Consider this and let it motivate you to treasure every moment you make as you continue the journey of your life. I want to thank all of you again for giving me the opportunity to leave you with these final words. As the night draws to a close and as you leave the halls of our schools and head out to the brave new world set before you, I can't help but think of yet another passage from Ecclesiastes where we are informed that for everything there is a season. A time for every matter under heaven. There's a time to plant, a time to harvest, a time to seek, a time to lose, a time to cry, and a time to laugh. Today it is a time for you to celebrate the accomplishment of your hard work over the course of these few short years to look forward and prepare for the future. Thank you.

[00:51:50]As you head out, I want to leave you with two things that have never steered me wrong. First, remember your circle matters.

[00:52:00]Always strive to be with the right people at the right place at the right time. That alignment is what points you toward success.

[00:52:11]My second piece of advice is simple.

[00:52:14]Nothing good happens after midnight.

[00:52:19]Go home, get some sleep, keep your head on straight, and take care of each other.

[00:52:27]Class of 2026, thank you for making CHS a stronger school and for helping me to find my footing as a first year principal.

[00:53:07]I am pleased to invite our 2026 saludiatoran, Mr. William Miller, to join me at the podium.

[00:53:22]Will is the son of Frank and Elizabeth Miller. He has been a student in the Cape Public School District for his entire educational career, beginning at Alma Elementary.

[00:53:37]Upon graduating from Cape Central, he will attend the University of Virginia where he will major in mechanical engineering and minor in engineering business.

[00:53:47]When asked which teacher made the biggest impact on him, we'll name Miss Kribbi for making his favorite subject fun and interesting. Miss Seabball for how much she pushed him over the years.

[00:54:00]Miss Bryant for greatly impacting his writing abilities, and for and pro Bowlinger for always making Spanish class fun and entertaining.

[00:54:10]Will's favorite CHS memories are traveling to away soccer and tennis matches and overnight hotel trips for tournaments.

[00:54:19]Beyond our classrooms, Will was involved in our national honor society, a member of the Beta Club, the soccer and tennis teams, student council, model UN, scholar bowl, and FCA.

[00:54:33]Will has earned many accolades including being selected as a Missouri scholars top 100 student soccer academic all-state tennis allconerence member and state qualifier and an AP scholar with honors and a terrific Tiger. Ladies and gentlemen, our 2026 Ludatorium, Mr. William Miller.

[00:55:15]>> Four short years ago, the class of 2026 walked into the halls of Central, what felt like a great unknown. Over the years, we've built each other up, becoming the best version of ourselves.

[00:55:33]I attribute this success to the unique camaraderie and drive we share, always encouraging each other to be better.

[00:55:44]Now, we stand here today with our potential fulfilled, goals realized, and futures right in front of us. However, before we take the next step, it is important to look back on how we got there and thank those who helped us along the way. On a personal level, when I look back on my life, the defining feature would be my identity as a twin.

[00:56:16]As many of you may know, I have an identical twin brother, Bruce. And growing up, we did everything together.

[00:56:24]We were inseparable.

[00:56:26]Our elementary school friends will remember our fierce competitiveness during those years. Whether racing after school in Marathon Kids Club or seeing who could get the best grade on a spelling test, everything was a competition.

[00:56:45]Although this sometimes led to conflicts and often bloody noses, it also brought something more positive to light. I developed my work ethic and ambition through my competitiveness with my brother. We have continued to push each other and have benefited from this mutual relationship. As we move towards separate paths, I will forever cherish the skills I've gained from being a twin. Like my brother and me, the class of 2026 is also a strong unit. We have worked hard over our four years and have accomplished many great things. We pushed each other to our limits and have strived in this competitive yet friendly environment. Now it is time for us to go our different ways and make our own impact on the world. As we head to workforce, military or college, it is important to remember that we need to continue to push others in our lives to get the best out of everyone.

[00:58:06]When walking the stage tonight, it might feel like the end of an era, but this is just the end of the beginning. With big things on the horizon for all of us, remember push others in your life towards greatness.

[01:01:56]I am now pleased to invite the validictorian of the class of 2026, Mr. Joe Chow to join me on stage.

[01:02:09]Joe is the son of Chin Woo and Zachchow.

[01:02:13]He attended Alma, Central Middle School, Trinity Lutheran, and four years at Cape Central High School. Upon graduation, Joe will attend Colombia University in New York, where he plans to major in financial economics.

[01:02:37]When asked which teacher has made the greatest impact on him, Joe complimented Miss Seaball for preparing him for higher, more independent learning. Miss Kribbley for helping him create an open mindset.

[01:02:51]Miss Bryant for elevating and writing skills through a balance of independent and guided work. and Miss Dupes for her subtle and pure character that pushed him to grow.

[01:03:03]One of Joe's favorite CHS memory was planning and leading his first PEP assembly his junior year as the upcoming student body president. Beyond our classroom, Joe has been very busy. He's been a member of the varsity soccer team, earning all state, region, conference, and district honors. He's been a member of the Beta Club, National Honor Society, vice president of membership with future business leaders of America.

[01:03:33]He is a simo volunteer for the income tax assistant program, a member a fellowship of Christian athletes and Chinese Christian fellowship of Cape Gerardo.

[01:03:45]Joe has earned multiple awards through his CHS career. He placed twice at state beta for math. He plays twice at state for FBLA soccer academic all-state team along with earning the AP scholar with distinction. Please welcome our 2026 validictorian, Mr. Joe Cow.

[01:04:30]Good evening. It is an absolute privilege and honor to stand before you all tonight. I want to begin by saying thank you. Thank you to every single person who has interacted with me, spoken with me, argued with me, taught me, and learned with me. You all have impacted me in positive ways, whether it's apparent or not. As you heard just a minute ago, countless titles situate themselves before Joseph Chow, student body president, soccer team captain, FCA leader, Ivy League admit, and now validictorian.

[01:05:10]Cumulative days of lost sleep, too many skipped meals, blood, sweat, and endless hours of relentless hard work I have put in throughout high school in attempts to stand where I am now and say, "I did enough. I was successful.

[01:05:29]So many before me have done the same.

[01:05:32]And so many of them have looked back regretful of the experiences they sacrificed while an equal amount stood proud, reminiscing of the experiences and the journey it took to get here.

[01:05:48]As I glanced back, my experience seems like an outlier.

[01:05:54]Halfway through high school, I found myself feeling emptier and emptier after each accomplishment and each milestone, debating whether I wanted to continue to chase this title, knowing I would fall into the regretful group of students.

[01:06:11]However, now as I place myself somewhere in between, knowing I could have enjoyed high school more, yet holding no regrets, only one thing has changed. my mindset, what I've learned through these four years at Cape Central, through my failures, my achievements, and my faith in Jesus Christ. And what I want to share with you all tonight is that your mindset dictates your success.

[01:06:39]This is something many of you hear too much from your parents, coaches, and teachers. But here's what you seldom hear, and here's what I want you to listen closely to. Your mindset is built on your understanding of the importance of the little things. With every test I prepared for, task I completed, and relationship I built, it was more than apparent that every worthy result was comprised of small details and minuscule steps. Those tedious tasks and preliminary procedures, those are the most important parts of anything that you will ever do. Those are the moments that define you. The moments where you grow, the moments where you begin to elevate yourself. In understanding this, I began an entirely new journey.

[01:07:32]Building a perspective that I could be confident would be the framework to living a meaningful life in all seasons and at all times. Not just on the weekends, not just when my grades were holding up well, but in every moment of every day, no matter the circumstance.

[01:07:49]For the past two years, that journey has taken me to the highest of highs, yet the lowest of lows. But this is what it has taught me. One, there are no shortcuts in life. Success comes from authentically seeking to become a better version of yourself. Considering this, your mindset must shift to focus on simply improving through each moment rather than focusing on what next great thing you can accomplish. Two, the milestones worth chasing begin with simple tasks and underappreciated actions that you find joy in doing. If you do not enjoy the basis of the mission, you won't enjoy anything that comes with it. Nor will you enjoy the success that waits at the end. And three, as you approach hard things with a firm belief that the intersection of your self-improvement mindset and the no shortcuts reality of life lies within the simple matters. You will notice something miraculous. You will begin to develop a tolerance and love for the tough moments that push you outside of your comfort zone and force you to grow.

[01:09:04]And thus, you will begin a compounding cycle that will propel exponential growth within yourself.

[01:09:12]It's because of these realizations that I was able to find meaning in the things that I did. It's because of these lessons that I could hold no regrets about the sacrifices that I made. When I did something right or pushed something through something hard, I grew and I learned. When I made a mistake, acted wrongly, or sacrificed an experience that I shouldn't have, I approached it object objectively and sought to change and do things differently.

[01:09:39]At the end of it all, whether awards or success followed in step or not, I knew I was making the most of every moment, impacting those around me, and slowly becoming a person that I would be proud to be.

[01:09:54]Before I close, I want to take some time to say a few more thank yous. First, I want to thank God simply for everything.

[01:10:02]Without his grace and his anointing over my life, I would not be here sharing this lesson that he taught me. Put your faith in him, stay obedient, and allow him to guide you. Furthermore, I want to extend a special thank you to a few people who don't get enough credit for what they do and the irreplaceable marks that they have left on my life.

[01:10:24]Mom, thank you for being the guiding voice in my life.

[01:10:30]You never let me settle, never let me quit, and never stopped pushing me forward. Dad, thank you for being my biggest supporter. You show me each and every day how to be a better man, and you never fail to amaze me with your patience and unconditional love.

[01:10:50]Ben, thank you for being the joy of the family. Though it seems like you never shut up, you challenge me every day to live life a little simpler and to love it all a little more. Don't let anyone hold you to any expectations. You will pave your own path unapologetically as yourself and you will be brilliant.

[01:11:11]Lydia, my role model and best friend. Though I may never catch you or equal your magnificence, thank you for giving me something and someone to strive after.

[01:11:24]Thank you for making me more loving, accepting, and emotionally mature. Above all, thank you for always keeping me in check, holding me accountable, and expecting the most out of me. And thanks for letting me use your Spotify premium.

[01:11:39]For a final note to my family, I love you all more than you know. Words will never fully encapsulate how much you all mean to me and the impact that you have had on me. But now to move on, Miss Dubois, thank you for being a mentor, for being the greatest student senate sponsor ever, and for being the best counselor a student whose last name does not start with a letter F through L could ask for. I would not be the person that I am without you. Lastly, Mrs. vines. From the moment that I stepped into your third grade classroom, you saw something in me that I didn't see in myself.

[01:12:18]Not only that, you were the first person to actively facilitate the spark that you saw. You filled me with confidence and a belief in myself that I could truly do remarkable things. From the moment that I stepped out of your classroom, there was one thought that constantly occupied my mind and one thing I was absolutely certain of. One day I would stand before you.

[01:12:40]Having achieved great success and tell you that you started it all. To all of you and everyone else who has invested in my life, I have waited for this day after much work and many setbacks to tell you and thank you for how much you have shaped the person that I am proud to be today. So thank you again. To close, I know this has been long. My final message to you all, graduates, attendees, family members, teachers.

[01:13:12]There's no time to waste. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. So now is the time. Go out and be wholeheartedly yourself.

[01:13:22]Question everything and never settle for anything. Go focus on the little things.

[01:13:30]builds your mindset day by day and interaction by interaction knowing that each moment, each conversation, and each task matters.

[01:13:41]Class of 2026, congratulations. I am so incredibly proud of the growth I've seen out of all of you, and I'm inexplicably grateful for the way you all welcomed me into your class. Celebrate this moment and what it has taken to get here, but do not allow this to be the mountaintop.
