In combat sports entertainment, quick decisive finishes (like the 17-second armbar finish in Gina Carano vs. Ronda Rousey) are often strategically designed to build superstar brands and maximize commercial value, rather than being fixed matches; this practice prioritizes entertainment spectacle and marketability over competitive fairness, as demonstrated by how Rousey's dominant finish enhanced her marketability while generating massive viewership and traffic for the promotion.

Was Gina Carano vs Ronda Rousey FIXED?Added:
Did anyone here watch the Gina Carano Ronda Rousey fight this weekend?
>> Yeah.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> Okay, I'm going to I'm going to mute this. Boop. So, that was the pre stream.
Uh the pre thing, whatever it was. Now, did you guys like have any bets on this?
Like, did you think like Gina was gonna win or Rhonda was going to win? Because I know Phoenix and myself both were thinking Rhonda was going to win, but did you guys have any other >> I didn't officially bet, but I felt like Rhonda would be the winner out of the two just like from a distance.
>> Mhm. Wanda doesn't have any tits.
>> That is correct. That is correct.
>> I I I can never understand female wrestling cuz maybe from the male perspective is hot cuz you know two females going at it type of situation but like they always have to be so muscular and just fake men and it's just to me it's kind of disgusting. Like they're not even that well hot bodywise.
Sorry.
>> Well, some men like Rhonda uh a lot of men like Gina. Uh, but there was some there was Rhonda at the time was considered a little bit of a minor sex symbol. Mitsu, right? I think you could.
Would you agree? Like some >> people love Gina. The reason that Gina was seen as, you know, the icon that she she was back then is she won a whole bunch and she was just very attractive while she was doing it. And so women's MMA had to be kind of built up around that structure. And that led the way for Rhonda because Rhonda was very technically gifted at doing one thing exceedingly well, which was getting you down to the mat and then grabbing your arm and never letting go. For a bet with this one, I I thought they were going to pat it out. I really thought that they were going to go and just like cheese around and maybe throw some strikes and wrestle on the mat some and give people five rounds and and kind of try to show that it might have been a little bit more of a contest. There's no different that like there's no contest between Gina and Rhonda's skills. Gina Gina was a lot like um oh I can't remember his name. Uh he used to be a street fighter.
Uh and and uh what Dana gave him a shot in the the ring and he lost. But he was you know he just started from nothing and he built himself up and he fought and and Gina started from nothing. She built herself up and she had her her boyfriend and husband. They fought and they made it work. But that's only going to take you so far. and it was still in a very early stage. She doesn't have the the technical skills or or fight acumen to go the distance in contemporary fight culture. She she she was there and she was an icon for a time that is long gone.
>> Did I hear right that she said she might want to do another fight, but with someone who's a striker, unless I heard that wrong.
>> So, I think I think uh what is it? Gina wants to do another fight. Rhonda says she's done and she wants to go make more babies. That's fine. I just Rhonda.
Rhonda is an interesting personality that I prefer far away from anything.
She could she could do whatever the promotion stuff is. She should not be doing the booking because allegedly she did the booking for this event, too. And every match was a first round and elimination except for I think one. And that's not good booking. Not good looking at It makes for great highlight reels, but it's not interesting ultimately to see when you're watching Juju do Santos get knocked the [ __ ] out and bleed from every orifice in his face within like 3 minutes. This is bad.
Okay, so uh I don't know if I can play this or not because it is Netflix, but essentially if you guys didn't watch it or you live under a rock, uh Gina Carana got her butt whooped in like 17 seconds by Ronda Rousey, which was everyone was yelling about it because they wasted like three hours of their life to watch this one round cuz that was the only thing they were interested in and it was over within like 17 seconds. Um so apparently she won via arm bar which I discovered is literally where is it?
There.
>> Yeah.
That's her move. That's her move.
>> So, um, now people are saying that it's fixed. Like, this entire thing was fixed and that it was supposed to be like this. Like, Gina was supposed to lose on purpose. They even have this where they meme her into Star Wars. Now, pay me $1 million to lose 100 pounds and lose in 17 seconds. Um, and then they also have some other statements saying, I'm still seeing negative comments. Let me zoom in for you guys cuz that's tiny. It's the way it goes sometimes. Gina put in the work. She looks fantastic. She said she feels great and showed up. She won in so many ways. It's not in if it's if that's not inspiration, then I don't know what is. And I got to be honest, she lost 100 pounds. Like, that's pretty badass of her just for this one little thing. So, do you guys think it's fixed or not?
>> No, I don't personally think it's fixed.
I think if it was fixed it, they would have let it play out a bit longer.
>> I agree.
>> I mean, Mitsu seems like he's way more knowledgeable in this stuff, so I'm actually curious about his opinion.
>> H combat sports is tough. Because like you want to believe boxing is legit. I'm here to break your hearts and tell you that probably 98% of of matches are fixed in boxing. I I wish it could be a more upstanding and and showcase of actual technical skill. When it comes to UFC, UFC is there's like I imagine there's probably one or two instances where maybe Dana might have pressured a judge or something like that or or they called a fight early or whatever the case may be. But this is this was a Jake Paul promotion. This was MVP. This I could see them very easily going behind the scenes and then having whatever on the contract being like, "Yeah, you're you're going to go down here. You'll you'll do this." Maybe for this fight. I don't know about the other ones. Like Francis, I don't uh Francis is just a monster. He's just a freaking nature.
He'll sit you down no matter what you do to him. But the rest of them, >> in what universe, though, do you think it's a good show to go down in 17 seconds?
>> Uh, it it makes your top person look really really strong? It's like, think of uh a good example. All the wrestling fans are going to go crazy. Uh Brock Lesnar beating Kofi was a travesty, but it made Brock look ridiculously strong.
Even though Kofi was kind of like bicked as a bit of a weak champion, and Brock has always been a monster heel. So, if you want to build up your top guy, if you want to build up your top stars, if you want to build up somebody like Rhonda, you have her go over in 17 seconds in her signature way. And then Jake Paul can turn around and be like, "Well, we paid her 2 million and she just did that and look at all these numbers." if we have her come back and have her book the show again, now she's worth five, 10, whatever we could pull in. I saw people saying that their MMA news sites saw the highest single day traffic on the day of the fight in the leadup to the fight, the highest traffic they'd seen for this stupid ass fight. Like, they're going to do it again. We watched Mike Tyson box in the year of our Lord, like 2024, whenever that was very recently, and he had his ass all the way out during that.
>> I don't know if you remember that. He they actually were backstage in his locker room and his pants were off. His ass was out and they filmed that [ __ ] Like it's it's just and that was all that was definitely like the winners were arranged in advance too. So if it's a Jake Paul promotion, I'm sorry. I'm just not trusting winners and losers on that one. UFC, sure.
Boxing, very rarely. WWE, no, obviously because it's just what that is. But >> well, I think a a good I'm sorry, Midu.
No, no, no. I'm just saying it's it's really tough because you want to believe that it is what it is. But I think I think it was fixed, but I also don't think that it's because Gina could put up a a credible fight. I don't think if if they had gotten the strikes, it would have lasted much longer. Rhonda would have just did what she did. She would have just shot on on uh Gina and then taken her down and armed barred her.
That's all she does. So if that would have been the result anyway, then why risk fixing a fight and then having that damage your reputation if that was the likely result anyways?
>> Like wrestle to me is like a whole different argument because we know it's predetermined, but they still go through the pain of all that.
>> But with this kind of stuff and I'm not saying that this doesn't happen in other sports. I mean there's cases in the NFL even where people are like hey they call themselves entertainment specifically are these like fixed you know the refs come in and it's like come on that call makes no sense. So I I I do believe that there is a conspiracy and it's not really a conspiracy that they do fix a lot of these things, but I just feel like they would have put a little bit more showmanship into it if it was really that fixed for this cuz like people left pissed off. People didn't leave going like, "Wow, that was so great." It was more like it would have been satisfying for everyone if there was a bit more of a back and forth. I think it would have been damaging to them >> to fix that. There was no benefit. It it really depends, you know. It again, it's it's all in the theatrics of it and building up people's personal brands to make them look strong, to make them look marketable because Rhonda Rhonda was deeply embarrassed by a lot of things.
Her WWE run was not good. And she went out horrendously. She went on her back twice to Holly Holm who kicked her in the face and then Amanda Nunez who punched her in the face repeatedly with the worst head movement I've ever seen in any fight ever.
like it they if if they didn't fix it, which they might not have, and that's fine. That's fine. But I could see Rhonda having somewhere in her contract being like, I'll go over and we'll make it quick and everybody gets paid, nobody gets hurt, everybody goes home happy because she's from that system and so is Jake Paul.
>> All right. Well, I I would say at the end of the day though, these two ladies are both winners because they're both >> millionaires. Incorrect. That is incorrect. Both of you are incorrect. It is because they're both in the Fast and Furious franchise, and that is what matters most.
>> Family.
>> That is cool.
>> All right, >> speaking of family, let's hear from the family blabs. Let's see what the chat has to say. Our goal is 200,000 subscribers. Help us. Let's get there.
