[00:00:00]Almost every African country was colonized by Europe, but one nation shocked the world by resisting Imperial conquest, Ethiopia.

[00:00:10]In 1896, European powers believed Ethiopia would fall like the rest of Africa, but they underestimated something powerful.

[00:00:23]Under Emperor Menelik II, Ethiopians united across ethnic and regional lines to defend their sovereignty against Italy.

[00:00:32]At the famous Battle of Adwa, Ethiopian forces defeated the Italian army in one of the greatest anti-colonial victories in history.

[00:00:42]It shocked Europe because for the first time during the scramble for Africa, an African nation defeated a European colonial power in open battle.

[00:00:52]But Ethiopia's victory was not luck.

[00:00:55]It was preparation, diplomacy, military strategy, and belief in national independence.

[00:01:02]That is why Ethiopia became a symbol of black pride, resistance, and African sovereignty across the world.
