In high-stakes playoff basketball, teams that demonstrate the ability to come back from significant deficits (such as being down 22 points) develop psychological resilience that persists throughout a series, creating a belief that 'we can figure it out' and 'we ain't never out the game.' This mental fortitude, combined with strategic coaching adjustments and the capacity to maintain performance under pressure, often determines playoff success more than individual star player performance.

Have the Cavs Hit Their Limit?Added:
Chew, would you have liked to see Donovan Mitchell try and take that match up on Brunson in the fourth?
I would have liked to have seen him do something in the fourth.
>> Okay.
That's what I would like to have seen him do. Whether it's switch on the Jalen Brunson and maybe get a stop and stop the bleeding.
Get to the basket, get a bucket, get to the free throw line. I would like to have seen him do something. I mean, cuz I didn't get somewhere. He did. He threw it out of bounds. He did something.
Yeah. [snorts] Impact the game in some way, yeah.
Even when he did Even when he threw the ball out of bounds, Ma, I still felt like I mean, that was early in the run.
And I still felt like like they still got control of this game. It was a turnover. Okay, no big deal.
But it just >> shot a step back three and missed. He shot that three. Missed. And it just did it it it it just seemed like it was going this way.
It was.
I would have done him. I absolutely would have done him. I would have done him all day long.
>> of the time when Donovan Mitchell's on the court?
Shout out to 4 of 25.
>> yeah. I was I was I'm I'm with you. I would just want to would have liked him to try and affect the game in some sort of way.
>> what you're doing, by the way. It's Jalen said that Mitchell was talking >> this game is I literally said 5 minutes ago this I'm not blaming Donovan Mitchell more than I blame myself.
>> what you said, but I also hear what you're saying right now.
I don't think Don- I don't think this is Donovan Mitchell's fault.
Why not, Ma? But I'm also on the side of I don't expect nothing from him anyway, so.
It doesn't mean anything to me.
>> [clears throat] >> In this particular situation in the Eastern Conference Championship, which he's never I don't know I don't know The fact that he was great for the first three quarters is actually >> juncture of the playoffs, let me rephrase the Eastern I I don't I don't want I don't Let me refrain from talking about the Eastern Conference Championship more than this deep in the playoffs for your best player like do you still feel that would you feel the same way about Wemby? Like you don't expect Wemby to do anything? No, because I I I think Wemby's a different kind of role player.
I I expect things from Wemby. I expect greatness on a night-to-night basis. I expect impact. I expect that. Donovan Mitchell, the fact that he was great for three quarters is good enough for me.
That's more than I expected, so shout out to him. Would you expect him to be great in that game seven when he doesn't even respect Donovan Mitchell enough to have That's what it sound like. Yeah, that's what >> I don't hold him to I don't hold him to certain standards that other people do, actually. When he doesn't meet you guys' standards, I'm not like, "Ah, Donovan Mitchell, why you let me down?" You know what I'm saying?
You [clears throat] don't think he's that good anyway, sure. Yeah, I'm I'm not about to Yeah, shout out to him, though. Like, great for his three quarters.
Amazing. Really good. That's back-to-back good games.
So, shout out to him.
Good work. I thought that they I I honestly thought that they had control of this game, Jay. I'm not one of these people that's just writing them off. I thought they had control of this game.
If they could continue to to do the stuff that they Let's not forget, they went up 20. They were up 22 in the fourth quarter. It's not like that and it's not like they were up 22 because the Knicks just stunk. Like, they had a lot to do with the Knicks being bad.
They had a lot to do with getting Cat in the action, keeping him in the action.
They had a lot to do They had a lot to do with the scheme that they had with Mitchell being on the floor and putting him on the free throw line.
And Evan Mobley being smart enough to know that at the end of the quarter, you know you can't hack-a-Shaq. So, when they get him in the action, I'm going to foul him to get him on the free throw line. Like, that's that's that's smart basketball, right? So, the sky isn't to to Real Talk's point, to counter Real Talk's point, I think that they did some things to get themselves in position to win.
It's just a matter of them holding on. I can't run this 100 I can't run this 100-m race. I can't run 85 m and then the last 15 m, I can't run.
And that's what happened. I I think the Cavs they do some good things. Again, I do think that their front court, quite frankly, just flat out outplayed the Knicks front court, which is something I wasn't anticipating.
Um, and they definitely did that. But again, this is why like losing this one in particular hurts Yeah. even more in my opinion cuz you were the better team for 41 minutes of that basketball game. And then 7 minutes you let go of the rope and then you allowed the Knicks to steal one. That It was kind of similar to me where like San Antonio didn't have as much of a lead against OKC in game one. But I did feel like San Antonio was like the team in control for a lot of that game and I was thinking even then I was like if OKC manages to like pull this one out late in game one, that'll be huge for OKC cuz they really supposed to lose this game. They were the worst team. Like the the Knicks were the worst team for a large portion of that game. They were.
J, do you think do you think it's over, J?
Do I think it's over? Mhm. Yeah, the Knicks are winning.
>> can Yeah, okay. It was over before the game even started. I didn't think the Knicks I didn't think the Cavs were going to win one game. I still don't think that, right? I didn't think they were going to win game one when they were down 20. Right? They did some good things but you could say that about any team that loses a game, right? Like they did some positive You can pick out positives of any >> the Hawks do positive in game six?

They played all 48 minutes. They didn't >> [laughter] >> They still put five guys out there, so Fair enough. I tip my hat to those guys, but >> It's just nothing I I don't think that the Cavs have anything that'll deter what the Knicks do well, right? Like That's what every matchup is for me. They did last night, though. They did last night. For 41 minutes, right? And then when it came down to guard my best player, right? How are you doing that? Right? When it came down to taking When it came down to taking Joshua out the game, turns out the Cavs can't guard the Knicks. When it When it came down Do you think that some of the the Knicks' bad play yesterday was some of their own doing, though?
More so than what the Cavs are doing?
Yes. Yeah. I do think Not not more so, but I do think that the Knicks has some bonehead stuff that they did last night.
I mean, we talked about it. Can't holding literally holding Jared Allen in the paint when he can get a rebound. And that's foul number five. Like he's doing stuff like that that's throwing a monkey wrench in what they're trying to do. Anthony Edwards told us, "Cat, you don't foul, we win. When you're on the floor, we win." And he does He does stuff like this to shoot them and he does stuff like that to slow down what the Knicks are trying to do. It took a gargantuan effort from Jalen Brunson and don't get me wrong, it was partially Kenny Atkinson's fault to leave his man out there one-on-one because he did trust him and I think that that was a mistake. It took a gargantuan effort from Jalen Brunson in order for them to win. Guys, he had almost 20 in the fourth. In the last 7 minutes, that's what it took to win this game. The Cavs were clearly in control of this game up until that point. They were clearly in control of this game. This isn't a game where it was nip and tuck and you're like, "Well, are the Knicks going to come back?" Jay, there's no way with 7 minutes and y'all down 20 you was like, "Yo, we beating these dudes." You didn't think that. You're lying.
You didn't think that. You did not.
>> But here's here's the other thing about the Knicks why I'm I'm so confident moving forward is cuz at this point, I don't know if this is a hot take.
I think the Knicks have the best remaining head coach in the playoffs.
I think from uh schematic standpoint, I think Mike Brown has been very impressive in this playoff run. The adjustments that he was able to make against um Atlanta in particular, what he was able to do against Philadelphia, and I just feel like as the season I mean as the series goes on, right? Probably either utilizes Josh Hart differently or just goes ahead and limits his minutes. I just feel like he's going to do make the proper adjustments that the Knicks need to make in order to, you know, take advantage and win the series.
Let's let's let's knock out a couple of super You good?
You sure you can Go ahead, get that off.
After you get done, I'm going to knock out a couple super chats. Go ahead, Damien. Oh, yeah. I was trying to say, Jay, there's been so many times this year where the Knicks have looked bad through three quarters and come back and won the game. It's been a bit of their identity actually this year. It's just who they are. I think that they always feel like they're in in some way, shape or form. So, like even if the Cavs get up in this series, I don't know if they ever feel like they're out of it. So, and when you come back from 22 chill, that belief stays with you a whole series. So, >> There's a level of confidence that you have that yo, That's right.
>> we can figure it out. Yeah, there's a level of confidence that you have. We can We can get back We ain't never out the game. We We We still in it.
Especially coming back after like extended rest where teams >> are usually not as great as they were.
Like the Knicks had what, 6 days of rest? 7 days of rest? 7 Yeah. Yeah, they had a while. Yeah, they had 7 days of rest. You expect to come back a little, you know, not not the same as when you just blew out a team by 30 two games in a row, right? So, you know, to still win that game is is a huge momentum push for them, too.
