The Northern Branch United States Military Asylum, established in 1851 in Washington D.C., was a pioneering mental health institution that housed patients labeled as prisoners rather than patients, representing an early approach to treating mental illness in the United States. Located less than 2,000 feet from Abraham Lincoln's cottage, this abandoned complex contains the oldest medical operating room in America and served as a training center for medical interns. The facility, which was closed for approximately 25 years, still retains original medical equipment including X-ray machines, IV stands, and rehabilitation equipment, demonstrating how historical medical facilities preserve their original infrastructure even after abandonment.

>> Okay. You think driving?
>> Yeah, I think that's that big tractor.

Here we were, the Armed Forces retirement home. At this very moment, we are less than 2,000 ft from Abraham Lincoln's cottage, a place where Lincoln was for around a quarter of his presidency, as well as the location he wrote the Emancipation Proclamation.
property erected in 1851 as the Northern Branch United States Military Asylum, labeling the occupants as prisoners rather than the normal patients.
Hell >> yeah.
>> We decided earlier that it was best we entered in the morning due to the Homeland Security patrols making us keep a low profile until the sunlight.
And the only thing I would really be worried of is they flash and they sit.
So once it gets light out, we just be mindful when you walk. Other than that, no worries. Be careful.
>> There's a a a ben right there.
>> Yeah, we should go shoot to the We should go shoot to the bell tower.
>> Yeah, that's where we should go.
We made the decision to head to the bell tower to get a good overview of the property during sunrise while we waited for the sun to actually come up.
>> And all this lights turn on.
>> They do, but we got to turn the surface once.
>> Obviously, we wanted to turn the power on, but we had to wait a bit longer due to the security round.
>> Oh, is that the room?
>> [snorts] >> Don't let this slam.
>> Going to love this when it's when it's daylight >> with the colors.
>> Tire this way.
>> Just looking every Holy [ __ ] Don't worry.
That way.
There's tire tracks that go right up to this [ __ ] Wait, it's >> like you can just tell people drive right there.
>> Oh, they probably just sit here stay here.
>> Oh, it's a road.
Oh [ __ ] >> I didn't know that's what we were trying.
>> Oh, there she is.
>> That's crazy.
>> I got to put them back up. This one's what they chair and all right. You want to go bell tower?
>> Yeah, I'm down to run it.
>> Holy [ __ ] Holy [ __ ] >> These things are a little [ __ ] >> We made it the clock tower.
>> Oh [ __ ] >> My legs are going to be so after this.
>> Try and go one at a time on this.
cuz it's like uniform.
[panting] >> Pretty cool, wasn't it?
>> Let me take a video. I'm going to like get a video.
There's a capital.
>> You can see the capital from right here.
>> The capital building >> right in front of it's right here.
>> Where's the active stuff? Is it way over there?
>> What's the active? Yeah. Right behind it. And that power plant is also abandoned, too. And we can get to it through a tunnel if we want. The only thing is, >> you know, a decaying girl.
>> There's a Yeah. Yeah.
>> Yeah. Our girl decaying.
>> Yeah.
>> She got in there recently. She told me >> I went in there and there So the the motion cam is like 20 25 ft off point.
>> You have about 10 minutes, give or take.
They do show up.
>> Sketchy being up here.
I said >> Jesus Christ.
>> Coming brother James.
>> Yeah, that's what it is.
I said 40.
>> Yeah.
>> Sun slowly started to come up.
>> Next mission was to turn the power on to the building.
>> That the security cars are extremely quiet, too, and that they do care.
>> So, just be careful.
>> Okay. And I want to keep my stuff over there.
>> Scared, but it's not going to be loud.
>> This is ready. Ready?
>> It's not a [ __ ] lever. It's just a go in there and see it turn on.
>> Oh [ __ ] >> Holy [ __ ] Oh my.
>> Yeah, that's insane.
>> Wait, redo that. That one. Redo that last one.
Yeah.
>> Oh my god.
>> That's like worth like $20,000 right there.
>> Jesus Christ.
>> This is insane.
[snorts] Seeing as this equipment had just been sitting for years, when we turned the power on, the X-ray machine was releasing radiation. Something we only realized after due to our footage having lines, which you can see here.
>> I think it's nuts that we could probably run an X-ray. It's on, bro. The X-ray machine's on with the number.
>> Yeah, this is worth seeing. Who turns out the power?
>> Bro, you really let that one linger, didn't you?
>> This [ __ ] ate away at you.
>> This [ __ ] still That's crazy that these aren't popped from 2001.
What's crazy is all this stuff.
I know I am. Nice try. It's making me feel better.
Oh, [ __ ] I'm going to turn the lights off and most insane.
Like this right here is [ __ ] nuts.
The fact that this stuff gets left is just insane, bro.
All right. Um, >> no. Um, >> so what we're going to do right now, >> cuz it is currently >> 6:25 and we might even be here till sundown.
So, um, clips are going to be very spaced out so I can save some weird occurrences going on. I've been here for maybe an hour and a half and the GoPro died. Like I have two of my GoPro batteries, one being brand new died.
So yeah, we got some food so we don't eat.
I got the camera set up. Um kind of just going to show you all some of the [ __ ] I have since we're being here. So all day.
Um got me an apple. This is not an apple. Apple.
Um, some turkey. My actual camo flashlight is on 11%. So that's dead.
Chilling down here next to Loach Traps and Riot Traps. Just chilling, eating a [ __ ] apple. Let's get it. Let's get it.
First bite. As you can tell, I ate the sticker, of course. Right.
I swear I just heard a bang over there.
It's heard.
Anyways, I want to go down here and see what's up.
Oh, the power's on in here.
What the [ __ ] A true walking over there. That's crazy.
That's [ __ ] beautiful.
This type [ __ ] should be a museum. This should not be illegal.
Why does that sound like it was here?
Yeah, this is crazy.
It looks so much different from that side. Like it looks like I don't know, but you can hear power running over here.
Everyone was split up at this point, free roaming the first asylum building until we all got our shots. Then we were to meet back at the operating theater to regroup and travel through the tunnels.
It's giant have looks like maybe a work area they keep like all this stuff they're working on and whatnot sculpting painting wood and carving the building we are in now is a 4-wood building once used as a training center for medical interns as well as holding the [clears throat] oldest medical operating room in America previously mentioned like that looks modern but it's bando.
This also acted as a training school as well as the administration building.
This is the oldest building in the complex. In 2018, they seem to have made plans to demolish the surrounding buildings, only leaving the Lagard building seen a moment ago. building, the one I'm currently building.
>> Then the plan was to build a community around these buildings, which we'll find a diagram of in the basement. Those plans seem to have fallen through, though.
This huge [ __ ] common area is nuts with the way the sun's hitting through this.
Just stay away from the windows.
Oh, there's a [ __ ] freezer room.
That's what this is.
Thought these were like maybe body rollers, but nope.
Air Force strolling music.
Whoa. [groaning] Whoa.
There's a World War II one. Pearl Harbor.
Gudell Canal. I've never heard of that.
I'm going to do some research on that [ __ ] Goodell Canal was the first American land offensive in the Pacific theater during World War II, which leads me to believe there was a lot of wounded World War II soldiers that were housed here at one point.
It's crazy. They had the windows painted in there and it just kind of dripped off.
Time to go up.
This hallway seems bad.
Damn, man.
That that other building looks so crazy.
Like the walk up to it looks insane.
[ __ ] crazy, guys. Imagine being in this room. So, this is like the other room we were just in, but there's a bed and stuff in here. So, this is from 1994.
Super old fridge.
Not recent, but not this.
Oh, I think that's like a thing to hold their leg up.
IV rod, patient handle, raise head, high cardiac hyperextension.
That's That's set in high cardiac right now.
Hell is that?
Wow.
>> Oh my god, it looks so Hey, you good?
>> Yeah.
>> All the rotting.
We decided it was time to meet up with the group to start exploring the tunnels.
We're going to run down that side, go up, hit them, and then that'll be it for this building. We'll take the tunnels to a different building and then we'll run through that one. And that's how we run it. [ __ ] This is such a crazy room.
Like, this is nuts. And the fact that it's been closed for 25 years now and there's still papers, there's no tags is nuts. This is a tag. But like, have you seen any graffiti?
Never out on the roof for meldahhide. What the [ __ ] >> Yo.
Yeah, this is >> Whoa.
What the [ __ ] >> What the [ __ ] [snorts] the actual other stuff in there. This bike just being posted there is so weird, too.
So, they pretty much just made a makeshift autopsy room.
They probably come here, wash their hands wash technique.
Let me just make it make our way there right now. So security here or what? one left actually just quick cuz they could just pull up and they will pull up there.
>> Yeah, they sit.
>> Oh, right into right here. What the [ __ ] It just completely collapsed.
This is insane.
Oh my god.
>> [snorts] >> Yeah. So, this was this one big ass room.
But yeah, so I was up there chilling, not even recording, and my batteries keep dying an insane amount. Like, it doesn't even make any [ __ ] sense.
And like I said, we're not ghost people, but man, when I tell you, everything keeps dying.
Um, shit's a little bit weird.
They have like This is where people would pretty much learn to walk again.
Whoa. Oh, [groaning] an aqua exercise machine.
Wa.
This is crazy.
Fact that this is still sitting in here is nuts.
You saw the PT stuff?
>> Yeah, bro. It's crazy. All this stuff is like modern.
>> Hell yeah. What the [ __ ] is this? These are like weights underneath here.
What the [ __ ] That shit's weird.
After exploring most of lobby by myself, [snorts] I started to walk around and I noticed something kind of scary. Most of the day had been pretty chill, but once I saw that coming to the board, I knew that people somewhat came in here to use power. So cool.
Bro has a tennis ball in there.
This looks like real blood.
Crazy.
They do testing here.
>> Are y'all Are you hip? They do testing in here. This is a bullet.
>> Oh [ __ ] Tell him, bro.
>> Yo.
>> Oh, >> yo.
>> Yo, are you hip? They do testing in here, bro.
>> Oh, [ __ ] >> They're going to shoot us.
>> No, bro. For real. Is that like a nor like Do you know about that?
>> They've done Yeah, they've done testing.
>> Okay. Okay. Remember, it's been it's been closed for like 25 years.
>> I just We just >> They be doing those like >> It doesn't look here at a good time.
They're not going to do testing on the Memorial.
>> No. I want to get out of this building.
I don't like this building. They don't do long.
That's some back room [ __ ] No, it's a whole cafeteria.
like literally a whole cafeteria and like dining hall.
Yeah, it's spooky down there.
Can't even lie.
Knowing I'm on a location with like mass burial is [ __ ] kind of spooky.
>> So just watch the [ __ ] ceiling and the walls as we go deeper. Just watch it get worse and worse.
>> Okay. I'm thinking you're talking about sensors. I'm like >> there's there is nothing.
>> Okay.
>> [snorts] >> Oh, you're not lying. Holy [ __ ] Oh my god.
He's glass. That'd be so crazy.
What the [ __ ] Look at this [ __ ] >> See? Yeah. US Marshall. And then there's there's [ __ ] like practice rounds from the US Marshals coming inside this building.
That's so sketchy.
>> They got like different types cuz this one has a Bro, >> can we please keep going?
This sh is [ __ ] a labyrinth.
>> Yeah, you'll see the tunnel system is kind of like the tunnels go a mile down.
>> We just thought we were going to be walking her through it. That's why.
>> True. At >> this point, our group's cohesion started to fall apart a little bit. We had been here for probably honestly about 6 hours and everyone wanted to start doing their own thing. So, it kind of started to create issues between the group which ended up with us splitting up completely.
>> Surprise first actually. [snorts] chemicals.
>> Just get upstairs, bro.
>> I don't want to go upstairs.
>> Everything is, >> huh?
That [ __ ] is so [ __ ] freaky.
Sodium chloride.
Holy [ __ ] There's a bunch of sodium chloride injections in here. It's all in the bottle still. That's disgusting.
Well, not really, but it's like kind of creepy. Oh, this light is still on.
Look.
>> Yeah, bro.
precipitate sulfide.
These are alt drugs.
There's a [ __ ] bicycle down here.
What the [ __ ] I'm going to keep going. Are they still back there?
>> Mhm. Oh my.
>> The lights being on just does not make [ __ ] sense.
This is nuts.
Yeah, they're all flicked on. It seems like oxygen room. That's nuts.
[snorts] No way.
>> It turns on power, too, bro. There's apparently a figure out, bro.
>> There is no [ __ ] way, >> dude.
>> Yeah, this is what they want the property to look like. I guess >> this is a diagram that I was speaking about earlier of the redevelopment plans. You used to be able to turn the model lights on, showing the street lights and a couple other things, but since then, it seems as if the power been cut to the model or the battery on the cord.
Right.
>> Yeah, I would think.
>> Yeah.
>> This is where we're at.
>> This thing.
>> Go in there.
This is by far the coolest mental asylum I've ever been to.
And it's not even close.
Not even close.
Maybe this way, but Oh, >> yo, TP.
>> That was us trying to like TP.
>> Yeah, that that was me. Let's go up. I think they're up.
>> Yeah.
Oh yeah, dude. There's an auditorium.
>> I want to take a break. Yeah.
So, this is fire, bro.
>> [snorts] >> After chilling for a few minutes, we decided to see what was left inside the medical building.
This is nuts.
This is so [ __ ] crazy, bro.
That room is insane, >> dude. Just the power being on. This reminds me of the first side of Oak Forest, bro.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. They're just chilling in the auditorium.
That's crazy. Go to that room that's glowing too, bro.
>> This is [ __ ] nuts.
>> It's [ __ ] insane, guys.
Yeah, I think they're trying to eat in the auditorium real quick.
>> Holy [ __ ] bro. What the [ __ ] This might be cooler than Oak, bro.
>> You think so?
>> I just think cuz like, bro, this place been closed for so long and all this [ __ ] is just here and it's not vandal. Like, it's vandalized a little bit, but no, >> barely. Yeah, >> it's been very respected.
This [ __ ] is crazy.
>> How is this [ __ ] real, bro?
>> And like like this is literally just from water damage. Like this table broke naturally.
>> Crazy.
I'm going to get a little flick of this bed real quick. I'm coming.
The [ __ ] Extension cord.
Oh, are these the working ones?
>> I think it's the only one that works. I don't even know.
That's not >> Is this a Is this a newer cord, bro?
>> It's just a power cord. There's not I don't I told TP this when we walk by. I don't remember it being open like this.
But um it doesn't look like they removed a board though. Like it it just looks open. But that's just >> What is running?
>> It just stops. That power cord just stops.
Not sure what that noise is.
>> The power cord made me extremely uneasy and stayed in the back of my thoughts the entire time in this building. Not sure what it was being used for, but it was being used.
>> Oh, yeah. Yeah.
I say there's a switch in here, but the lights don't even exist in here.
[snorts] >> That [ __ ] is on.
>> Wow. And go over there.
>> [ __ ] wave. More. That [ __ ] is [ __ ] nut.
>> Holy [ __ ] Yep.
>> Oh, piss jar.
>> I literally did everything I've ever >> Is there another X-ray being in here?
No, just a light from the other room.
>> Pretty sure.
>> Yep.
>> I think this one's better.
>> This one's got the bed out.
Look at this.
This is so cool.
>> Oh, this is where they would run it from.
It's wild.
So, this part of the movie is Yeah. Good news is my GoPro batteries are actually charging.
>> So, >> it did.
>> Yeah.
>> Oh my goodness.
>> That's crazy.
That's insane.
Sorry. Sorry.
>> Shh.
>> What was that? It >> was me.
>> No, not the bang.
>> It sounds like working equipment.
>> It does. Sound like they're cutting.
Bro, call TP. Go back down. They might be coming in, bro.
No. Bro, that's whack. They have that extension cord. They might be using that extension cord.
>> Bro, no. Can we call, bro?
>> We got to go.
>> We got to get out of this building.
At this moment, I was almost positive the ground keeper was coming in and out of the building, >> possibly utilizing that power cord we found about 10 minutes ago.
Of course, we were split up and had no clue where Luke or TP was located at.
[ __ ] >> I didn't really hear anything.
>> It sounded like a lawn mower.
>> Yeah, it might just be cut in the grass.
>> Bro, I do not. Dude, I need to get rid of this, bro. Sorry. I'm sorry.
>> I don't have any connection down here.
>> Just call him and ask them. service.
Do you need service?
>> I don't have service.
I do.
>> Did you see anything?
>> You didn't really hear anything.
>> I did, bro. It sounded like my own >> right outside the window like down.
[snorts] >> Let's go back to the other building.
>> Yo, [snorts] where you at?
Where you at?
Uh, we heard like it sounded like a lawn.
>> So, we're in the tunnels right now. So, I think we just Yeah. Yeah. So, we can just go to another building and come back here later if we want.
Yeah. We went We were on We were on the second We're in the tunnels in front of the door to go to the like uh or we're in the basement, I should say, of that building. Yeah. So, it's fine, though.
We're going to head to another building.
I think it was just someone cutting the grass, but there was some extension cords running outside.
Just be quiet when we're on the first floor is to see if you guys can hear it.
>> We got to go this way.
I >> Wait, isn't this going to be like right in the front where they are though?
>> It's okay though. It's okay cuz [snorts] Yeah, they are like >> they're right up front.
>> They're like over here somewhere.
We'll be all right. Just >> I'm not [ __ ] with this.
>> No, that's not cuz we might even be able to see them or something.
I do want to see them.
That gate isn't open though.
>> You're right. That is closed.
>> Holy [ __ ] >> [panting] >> So this is a hotel for people to stay.
Makes it feel more like home, I'm guessing.
told me that it's most likely someone here.
>> Wait, what happened?
>> Let's just run up here. We'll go to the >> Some explorers or something.
>> People walking away. We can't assume that there's explorers, bro.
>> Yeah, cuz I I listened outside. I didn't hear anything else running. So, >> we were on the roof, bro. And we didn't hear a single lawn mower. Not even that.
>> You guys were on the roof just a minute ago.
>> We were on the roof, bro.
>> We heard someone closing a door on our [ __ ] level.
>> No, that's that's wind.
>> Okay, >> cool. See?
>> All right. So, um >> I'm on high alert right now.
>> So am I.
>> We don't need to see these. We can go straight up to So they were walking down that street.
>> Yeah, I'm coming, bro.
>> I'm coming.
>> At least the strike floors if you got [ __ ] I can't see [ __ ] from here.
>> Yeah, I couldn't see in here even when we were parallel with it.
>> I've seen I've been up here and watched them drive around.
>> Really?
>> Yeah, from here.
>> We're very safe in this building.
>> Yeah, I feel like we're chilling right now.
>> We're probably Yeah, we're >> I would be chilling up here if I was homeless.
>> I'd have to open that up. Be able to get into this market. Okay. It's double fenced technically, so they don't usually sit in.
>> People slip through that right there >> for sure.
>> Yeah, they got to open it to drive.
>> Well, I'm wondering if those people are part of the A blank house tour and they get to like do they get to walk around this?
>> I've seen people on like just riding around before. So, >> I I think that whatever the veterans thing, the new thing that they have going on there, I think some kind of correlation with this land still.
>> But you guys want to chill for a little bit?
>> No, not in this building. I'd rather go to the amphitheater and chill.
>> Like once we're done filming everything.
>> Yeah.
>> I need to rest my legs.
>> If I was homeless, I would just chill in here.
>> For real, bro. Lock the [ __ ] door.
>> I just really did not. I'm sorry. I made us get out of that building. I just really did not [ __ ] with that [ __ ] >> I wanted to leave, too, bro. Trust me.
No, I heard it. I walk in, bro, and it's like, >> you heard it. It was like lining up.
>> I thought it was the bed, bro. I thought like it was like >> It sound like it was like >> loud as Oh, that's outside. I was That's definitely like a worker machine, bro.
[snorts] And like the only thing that got me is like even if something was to hit the fan, the only reason I'm stressing is like I don't I know how to get out of here, but I don't know where that hole in the fence is.
>> Yeah, I know. [snorts] >> Look on maps.
>> Like I have an idea.
>> Yeah, it's like in the corner of the property.
>> [snorts] >> Holy.
Oh, it smells so bad.
It smells so bad.
Fort.
>> A little tired, but fantastic. [snorts] >> This is crazy.
could sit here and do a puzzle.
>> It looks like looks like this is like a day room here at the end of the hallway like these old chairs the calendar actually.
>> Let's Let's start. There's a staircase that led right into a right that you took.
>> We all took it.
>> I didn't take that.
>> Oh, yeah. It's the Yeah. Yeah, bro.
>> It's in the basement. Walk all the way at the end.
>> Yeah. Okay. Okay. So, we'll walk in the car next to the model. Go up those stairs. Chill. Okay.
>> Yeah.
>> All right. So, they're trying to go run back to the spot where the [ __ ] is at. Don't move.
>> Yeah, I'd say so.
>> Just be quiet. At least they are in the building.
>> There we go. Down a flashlight.
>> Currently, we're heading back to the medical wing. TP and Luke didn't get pictures of the auditorium, so we had to spend back for them.
take the stairs.
>> I just I was just going to shoot It's that way. Oh, go that way.
The cord's down here like where that thing is. Like where that thing's sticking out in the hallway. It's like right past there to the left and over there.
>> Okay.
>> Yeah. whenever you called your cops and told them it was me.
>> I've had someone tell me they called me hundreds of times and no no caller ID number just >> let's just be quiet in the main this one cuz this building suses me out.
>> Yeah. [ __ ] Just walk through me.
Sketching drawings.
straight.
>> No, it's right here.
technically goes out.
>> Oh, I want to see.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> What? The security sits right there normally.
>> I thought you said they sit right over there. Or does the gate need to be open?
>> Other side. Yeah, way other side. Come out here. Where you going from?
>> Can't be seen.
It's very worth it if you want a really great shot. Like two really great shots, bro.
Candy.
It's good. It's good. You can't even see no roads.
[panting] Check that [ __ ] God damn.
Let's go. Let's go back.
>> You want to go back in? Oh, they stink.
>> This [ __ ] looks so [ __ ] I'm pretty sure it's the newest building.
These helies aren't fed, right?
>> Hey, we're [ __ ] We're cooked. [ __ ] it.
It's a medical It's a medical one.
>> It's the medical helicopter.
Get your shots in the building.
>> So bad. Thank you for that.
>> Yeah. All right. Just watch on the right as we go back.
>> All right. We'll get out the way. But it was open. He's [ __ ] [ __ ] >> Oh my god.
>> Definitely [ __ ] >> [snorts] >> Yeah, there's no security over here.
I got that on video. All right, so the GoPro just died. We're back on the Cannon. I have another battery for the escape, but we just saw a [ __ ] red fox in here. [ __ ] insane. And uh right now we are about to go smoke at the >> top.
Yeah, I can see it.
>> We lit guys.
>> This room is peace.
>> Like very >> Yeah, that's how I be feeling.
Should you do that like in sync?
>> I think they say they here.
>> Yeah, this was these were >> everyone just stay right here until we're good.
>> Yeah, >> just like like hide a little.
>> Yeah, go. Oh, >> like I'm saying like when you jump I meant I'm sorry. Should have been a little Hold on. Just throw it down to me and I'll catch you.
>> Oh [ __ ] >> You good?
>> Yeah.
Damn.
>> Are you good, bro?
