Concrete yards, despite their high initial cost (potentially £100,000+), provide long-term value through maintenance-free surfaces that eliminate puddles and reduce ongoing repairs compared to stone yards, making them the most cost-effective option for agricultural operations despite the substantial upfront investment.

Is Michael JCB shopping again?Added:
Good morning. It's Saturday and we're in the yard. Just look at that beautiful blue sky. Beautiful. So, I'm feeling 85% today. Hope you're all feeling good. Um I should keep walking around like that.
Should I? Doesn't work very well. Um let us know in the boxes below how you're feeling. If you're having a bit of a tough time, it's just remember it's okay not to be okay. Reach out. Not a problem. Not a problem. And if you haven't heard from someone in a little while, remember it's mental health week, give someone a call. We had a few messages from people that have done that and they actually basically say, "Thanks for the uh advice." It's not advice, is it? It's just been nice, isn't it? There we go. Anyway, um well, I have a bit of tidy up in the yard today. We got to move things around. We've got a lot of stuff coming home this week. Lot of new machinery coming home. Um new tenners coming home. D coming home this week.
Um, so we're going to try and get a bit more organized. We last year when we did the graveyard out the back, we moved an awful lot of stuff at the front. Well, move stuff all around and we got to try and get some order in place at the moment. So, there we go. Right. I think first of all, I think Daniel's just going to get the snow plow for the unimog that we bought at auction. We haven't offered it up yet. So, we got to offer that up. See if that um fits. If it fits, it's good. If it doesn't fit, then we can move it on and sell it. And something else that's um will fit. So, here we have one snow plow on the front of a Mog. And the good news is I think we still got obviously we still got the frames on there that that won't be on time. But the important bit was that these bits here actually fitted into there which they do. That's great.
Um what it was on before had some big bolt holes here um to clamp it onto I think they call it a dim plate I believe to bolt it on to clamp it onto there. um they don't line up with what we've got. But what we think we probably do is weld on some big square plates on here hole. Then we can bolt it through there. But other than that, it actually fix it. Actually fixes fit. No, fixes.
>> Yeah, it fits.
>> Fits is the word I was looking for, wasn't it? Fits.
>> Um and some snow.
>> No, don't wish. Don't wish don't wish time away. Um hydraulic fishing got change. They got a male and female in there. We just got to change one of them to um to males. We've got various outlets on the front of the mog here.
Haven't got a clue how they all work well is. And there's another another big set over there. So these actually that's that was the critical part. If that didn't fit, that was going to be the the awkward bit, but it they do. So it's literally just the width of the morg as well. It works out to be just the just the right width there. So uh and it's got the rubber pads. This is the first kind of snow plow we really operate in the last few years with a rubber rubber wear edge on it. Um I think more and more places now particularly car parks the hospitals we do and like that certainly prefer rubber. They're worried about the marking the road or scraping the white lines whatever they want to do. But we've always used metal in the past but since the first one we had a rubber big rubber pads on here which are adjustable and I think reversible. So as you wear it down you just take this plate all them holes off there. So, I think that's a a good fit. But we'll get on and get that done. Won't leave it. I'm saying that. Famous last words here, Daniel. We won't leave it until the snow's coming in the day tomorrow, will we?
>> We're trying not to.
>> Probably will try.
>> Probably will. But at least we know it actually fits. So, that was I bought that blind. Okay. Those that watch the channel know that we don't like buying things blind. Um, it's not what we try to do. We try to be a bit more organized than that. But we did. It fits. This is probably a success story of buying something blind.
>> Yeah, >> there's not many of those.
>> There we go. Right, we're going to take it off. There we go. Everything's on the move this Saturday morning.
Remember, little fuel bells are there.
We'll be available for sale very shortly. So, big move big move around this morning.
know where all this stuff comes from.
The amount of silage size sage parts sage side trailer parts we've got is huge. Absolutely huge.
So, uh we're getting sorted now. Get some space out here now. get his resources out.
Excited for bit stuff out here and uh we'll get there.
Rain wasn't built in the day.
Not quite sure where all this comes from. I really don't. But there we go. Get sorted.
What's everybody else doing on this nice Saturday morning?
Got to be more fun than this probably.
Nice Saturday morning. Customer comes in for fuel bowser, takes you away with him. That's what you want, isn't it? So, lad, what a what an awesome chat. What a real nice guy. And, uh, been talking to us about an hour and a half, I think. Uh, yeah, lovely guy.
So, uh, thank you very much for your business. Quick visit to C Hamilton's yard at Lincoln.
There was a nice load of stuff just arrived there.
It's amazing what you can fit on the law, isn't it? 808s 25 zed. I think it's probably a 2.5 tunner.
808s 808 micro diggers there.
54140 construction spec teley handler.
And then three more 808s on the back.
So that's a that's a good bit of loading there by somebody, isn't it? That's that's a lot of confidence in the on the boom there, that machine there, isn't it? So we got one of our machines in here been in for repair.
It's coming home now. And I think it's probably is we'll be up to sale when it comes home. It's been had a small oil leak in the boom.
So T house have been doing that. So, get my home, get it steam cleaned, get it sorted out, and get it uh another one here ready for sale.
So, yeah, get all home. Think I think Daniel's going to come and get that later on today, I believe. There's a whole host of machines in the yard here.
Looks like uh brand and hire are definitely uh replacing a lot of machines.
There is a lot there, isn't there? So MKM So buckets all I think I might be loaded. I better go back up this way. But it's like being a sweet shop, isn't it?
This is something you would never really expect. I never thought we'd ever see, but obviously batteries from the electronic range of kit. Never thought we'd see stuff like that. But good brand in there, isn't it? Certainly looks good. Uh branding the lorry.
It's throwing it down with rain here at CCS.
Daniel's just got back with the lorry.
Michelle is running utilizing. What is that? Whose name's on the umbrella? Is that Is that my my new my Richard Weston umbrella? There we go. That were very kindly given that, weren't we? Where were we? Was that um >> Farmstar open day? Yeah. So, Richard Weston, if you're watching, we're making good use of your umbrella. Thank you very very much for that. But >> probably raining hard here today, which is everyone will be very happy.
>> So, Jan's back. He's got some mesh on there and he brought back that telly handler that we showed earlier on um at TC Hamilton which has been repaired. So yes.
So how's Michelle today?
>> You okay today? You're doing all right.
It's good. You look you've sold something, haven't you? You're smiling.
>> Oh okay.
>> Okay. No, that that um the guy who's um you know the policeman contacted us to say yes >> Bowser had been returned. It was the guy that I found. So he messaged me earlier and thanked me.
>> Right. Okay. So just tell our viewers what happened there. So we had a phone call from a certain police force. We weren't going to say which one.
>> Yeah.
>> That they found some items which included a pressure wash boundler.
>> Okay.
>> So I did a little bit investigating.
They traced it back to us, didn't they?
>> Um, yes. And uh, we found four possible people. It could have been in that >> about three years. Was it about three years ago, wasn't it?
>> 2022, I think it was.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> Four years ago.
>> Yeah.
>> And we found the owner >> and so I wrong four people and one of them came back said he had his stolen and um, it's been reunited with him. So all good.
>> So that's a happy day then. So >> yeah, >> result. Yeah.
>> So that's what happens when you buy from GCS. It's the afterare service as well, isn't it?
>> Just call me Sherlock.
>> Sorry.
>> Call you Sherlock. Yeah. Okay.
So, I'm going to go and uh >> Oh, do you?
>> I'm going to go and show show the uh concrete preparation going on. But yeah, proper rain. Proper rain. So, this will make this be good for good for the crops though. So, uh happy days.
And here comes Daniel who doesn't have the luxury of a Richard Weston umbrella.
Is it Michael?
>> What >> is it raining?
>> It is raining. Yes. Yes.
>> Yeah. That's a very What's that one of these? Is that like Ridgeline?
>> It's cool. It's the only part of the body that's on.
>> I will admit that we are not sponsored by Ridgine in any way in the making of this filming of this.
>> Definitely not sponsored by V12.
They're not very dry in that.
>> No, we need to get you some new boots.
Yes.
>> Yes. But it's um damp out.
they're in his standard.
>> Yes.
>> Yes. The uh the farmers will love it which will make them happy. They want to hire more and show you from GCS, won't they? They will.
>> Yeah. You got the teller, you got on mesh and you got something else as well.
I know. I know. But we can't mention that on here. Don't mention it on here.
>> No. We didn't realize.
>> No. I've been told that. So that's quite cool, isn't it?
>> Yeah.
>> Very kind of.
>> Very kind.
>> Yes. But we later on when we got it in place, it will be >> I don't know where it's going yet. I don't >> No, I thought maybe in here, >> right? Yeah.
>> But we'll we'll come back to that at a later date.
>> Yeah. Very kind of.
>> Yes.
>> They know who they are.
>> They know who they are. Yeah. Yeah. Very kind of them. And we we'll reveal more later. Should we just show the nice signs that Peter did the other day? We got is it a good good luck bird up on there.
So there's one side he's done being quite good.
And there is second one here.
I don't know if this is going to be for the GS ground care.
So sales and height of ground kit machinery.
So lots of things changing here. But that's uh quite cool. But anyway, that's the good news. The the bad news we're showing now. The bad news is the trenchial rain we've just had is kind of just shown.
We still have a bit of a leak on that roof that we um put the guttering on.
Not quite sure where we thought we had we thought we've got it. We really do think we've got it. So got there with a bit of a silicon cuz we have some very very strong ranges now. And we have just found that that's a we haven't quite handed because we did that bit. Those haven't watched it. We put that there was an apex open bit there or an apex we call it end of there. So, we've um made that gushing up, made the brackets up, did a good job. Infilled come out of focus a bit. Infilled that bit there with um sheets and we thought we got it. We really thought we got it.
We've obviously got a bit of a leak there. So, uh bit more investigation needed on that bit, but we'll get there.
We'll make it work. In the back of the shed here, we've started to get to get ready for concrete.
So, we've uh just little bit of level out in there and uh bit wonky there. It need to uh we'll get that right bit. We got some shuttering here for the concrete.
Concrete's coming on Thursday.
So, it's quite nice to uh starting get some bits and pieces uh moving forward here.
So, uh obviously Danner's put turn the downpipe there so that it's got the water coming in here. We're going to concrete.
That was a good idea.
Bunch of old concrete. But uh you do like coming out in the rain, don't you?
>> You do like going out in the rain.
>> I'm like a duck.
>> You're like a duck.
But uh there we go. Yes. So we'll uh concrete this on Thursday. Thursday at 1:30 and hopefully then it'll uh hopefully it will have stopped raining by then.
>> An awful lot drier up there. They all got dry till Thursday. Yes. But we can't mind about the rain. So there we go. So uh first bit of uh the new yard to be concreted and uh we can't afford to do the whole yard in one go. That's for sure. We're going to need to get this bit first. So, we're going to put diesel diesel tanks going to go on here. And then we got to start getting some bits set up here for um silage sides, bits and pieces like that. So, we're doing going to do that. And then once we've got this piece in, we will go out that way and then go that way for the brake roller tester. So, uh this is the important bit we need to get done, but I thought we'd do a little bit there that wasn't quite as important.
The finish on this is going to be important for us. making sure we get it right for the um so we can roll under the brake trailer on there on a on a on a um crawler board. So, we thought we'd have a practice bit first and then go on to that bit.
So, we've got the mesh on the lorry. the lollies. Daniel has been out with the lorry and uh I said earlier on and bought back a load of mesh. So, here's the mesh.
We'll uh get it all cut ready for Thursday.
And uh feels good. When we came here, there was no concrete here at all for all this.
We've laid the whole yard here in concrete. Um some of this now is probably heading towards 8 or 10 years old. Yeah, probably 8 10 years old. And uh we were going to have a we were going to have a stone when we recently This is the first Well, when we This is the first building we put up.
Made a big mistake this building. big mistake with it. Should have put it around the other way around so that we had doors in the side like the one over there. But hindsight is a very valuable thing. And uh as a workshop, the minute we put one big trailer in there, we kind of block it up for when we had six people working in here. It just kind of completely blocked it up. So part of the reason why we moved over to there. But I can remember when we poured the first bag of concrete here on this was the first bay we poured. And we poured this on a Saturday morning.
And the idea originally was to do three bays. One, two, three bays in front of the shed as a as a as a shed apron. And then after that, we were going to have all stone.
And that Saturday morning, as soon as we' poured this bay, I just knew we had to do the whole entire yard. So the whole we've done all the concrete here.
None of it was here. Um cost an awful lot of money and it was funded out of our own pocket. We didn't borrow money to do it. Funded all of our own pocket.
And we kind of kept doing bays as we could afford it. So we do another bow, another bow, another bay, and kept going. And the best thing we ever did, absolutely the best thing we ever did.
um can't afford it. But you know, there's probably £100,000 worth of concrete around this yard. Or maybe maybe not quite that. But then if you look at this, if you look at the way the value of it with the concrete, the steel, the chalk underneath it and all the rest of it, and the labor, etc., etc., you probably are looking 100 grand.
And it's kind of thing that no one no one ever values it, do they? Now, you walk on concrete, you you take it for granted. But yeah, we certainly uh wouldn't be without it. And I think a great saying the other day by PX Farms, which is very true what James said, the cheapest yard is the concrete one. Cheapest yard ever cuz this is done. It's maintenance free now, isn't it? Whereas if you've got um stone, you'd always be having puddles in it. You'd always be messing around with it. So it was the right thing to do at the time. But uh yeah, there we go.
Anyway, enough of my waffling.
Thank you for watching this uh video.
