Digging Up Clues to a Long-Lost Colonial HomesiteHinzugefügt:
What's up guys? Cord here and if you saw the last couple of videos, we've been detecting this incredible colonial farmhouse and the surrounding fields finding some absolutely incredible things. There's been buttons found out the wazoo closing on 20 of them, including big buttons and small buttons and fat buttons and tall buttons, like a Dr. Seuss of buttons at this place. Not to mention the coins we found. And oh man, did we find some cool coins. There was a bunch of large cents including braided hair large sense, drape bus large sense, seated liberty dimes, and even a super rare 200-year-old cap bust half dime. Well, this week we're finally wrapping up at this place, and I'd like to think we saved some of the biggest surprises for the very end. So, I hope you guys enjoy this week's video, the farm field feeding frenzy, and I will see you at the end later.
All right, we've got ourselves a huge freshly tilled field with a colonial house just on the other side of these trees behind Lyn and Rich. And I think we're going to have a heck of a day. And Lynn's got a good find right off the bat. Swing over at my hand, Lynn.
>> Kind of a lower midtone.
>> You'll like this. It's pretty cool. Oh, it's a tiny little Oh, there's a design on it. She's got herself a little Oh, I feel a shank, too, Lynn, on the back.
>> Yeah. Sort of smack.
>> Look at that. You know what that star reminds me of?
>> Uh, Chinese checkers. It does.
>> You ever play Chinese checkers?
>> It definitely does. It's six pointed.
>> Yeah, that's the board for Chinese checkers.
>> It has little dots on it, like the little holes.
>> I always liked white because, you know, I'm color blind. I could see white where like the yellow and orange looked similar.
>> She's got a nice shank on the back. I said I felt it before I even saw it on my finger. Some writing on the back, too.
>> Little cuff.
>> But that is sensational. Way to go, Lynn. Great find. Now, if Rich can find a shoots and ladders button, man, we're killing it.
>> We're really cooking.
>> Way to go. Let's keep going.
>> That sounds really good. There's a rock on the surface. Let me just make sure.
Oh, that's not a rock. It's like a sponge. Okay. Just making sure that wasn't it.
This sounds good.
It sounds promising. At least a button.
I'm hoping a coin would be great.
Another coin.
He's hot. Hard ground there.
I think it's still in the hole on the left hand side.
Let's see.
Oh, nope. Right in the center.
All right. Come on.
Let's see something. Oh, it's a big coin. There it is. There it is. Son of a gun. It's another big copper.
Holy cow.
All right, let me get the good camera and I'm going to brush this. I don't know what it is yet, but it's another thin one. Yes.
All right. Well, here's my corn. I didn't clean it yet. And the gang, we separated today to try to find hot spots of the field. So, there's literally no one around me in any direction.
And as you can see, I don't see anything on it yet. It's covered in dirt. It's not even coming off real well. So, let me brush this before it dries and hopefully reveal some sort of detail on yet another coin. This one's thicker, too. Fingers crossed for some sort of ID.
All right, I cleaned off my copper. I even sprayed this one because it's so gunky.
And at first I thought, "Oh, there's nothing on it. I don't see a bust or anything." But if you look really close up at 12:00, I could see some writing. I think I see the letter C right there at 12:00. Could that C be for America?
Could it be for Connecticut? It could be for all sorts of things, but I can't make out a whole lot of letters underneath of it. And if I turn it completely 180, I see letters up at the top, too. I see what looks like O R something or other. So even though there's no bust in the center or unless this is the back, I can't make out anything other than some things going around the outside.
Now assuming that's the back, this would be the front. And this is even worse. I don't see anything on here. I don't see a bust. I don't see any letters, any characters.
This side seems to be pretty toasty even with the paron.
But this side definitely see letters at the top. Definitely see letters at the bottom. So I'm going to have to come back to this later. But I'm super super stoked to have two coppers on the day along with the buttons to see the dimes.
I am really killing it. And even after this, it's only about 12:30. So, I might go walk back to the car, get a drink, get a bite to eat, and come back out because I got about eight more hours and I'm already having one heck of an incredible day. Let's keep going.
All right, I caught up to Rich. He was waving me. He said he got something good. So, I walked all the way over, brought the machine cuz I want to swing over it. Rich, look all the pollen on my machine from the fields out there.
>> I know. Mine, too.
>> Yeah, let's see.
>> Over. It's right there.
81 82.
>> Oh, you got a copper all. I got two coppers out there, Rich. I think so. Oh, hold on. Wait.
>> Let me see. Yeah, I got two. This is going to be a good day.
>> I think so.
>> They are definitely here. Mine have had Oh, look at that impression on your >> thin.
>> I have not gotten good detail yet. Let's hope you can break the trend of good detail on the coppers.
All right, here we go. Let's see. I'm going to get the flashlight out, too. I might need it.
It's overcast today, but it's a nice comfortable day.
>> That's how mine have all been. Ugg.
>> Listen, I'm two for two with Uggs. But you see something?
>> I see a a T.
Two letters right there.
>> All right. But I'd have to hold it in my hand to see. Let's brush it and we're going to come back. I got so desperate I sprayed my second one. Changed it to like a blackish bluish green color. But sometimes you have to spray them to get a little bit. We're going to brush it and come back in a second. See if we can get any sort of an ID off Rich's first copper of the day.
>> What is this thing?
>> All right, there's Rich's circle. And believe it or not, we cleaned it up. I mean, if you saw my coppers, this feels rough on the copper coins. The only thing we were able to see on this side is, let me orient it right there. If you look directly at 12:00, we can see the letters A K E at the very top. Rich thought he saw make and take.
Or are you just assuming it said that?
>> Either make or take. And when I held this in a certain angle with the light, and it might not be able to capture the angle now, somewhere around here, it looked like it was like a whole paragraph of writing where like this maybe was a token. I can't quite capture it now, so I'm not sure. And it's hard to see anything on it. This side, just like my coppers, they are rough in this field. I think they're really old, though. I'm thinking the coppers we're getting today are all 17s based on how thin they are, >> the wear, >> but so far three of them, none of them recognizable. Although it looks like there's a bus there, doesn't it, Rich?
>> It does.
>> But don't know what it is. We might have three Fujios and we don't even know. And that's what stinks, you know, like all you want to be is be able to ID it and it stinks when you can't do it.
>> Oh, maybe it says cake.
>> Oh, let them eat cake. like it's a I don't know. All right, we're going to come back at the end and we'll clean them up and see what we can find. But congratulations, brother.
>> Thank you.
>> I'm going to head back out and see what other amazing treasures I can get.
>> All right, >> super cool.
>> There's something down there. Oh, changes a little bit. All right, let's see what we get.
I'd be surprised if this is a coin, but it could be a button.
If it is a button, it might be a bigger one. be hitting up near 80 as I rotate on it. Most of the buttons we find don't hit up quite that high without.
All right, let's see. Just hoping for anything interesting. Interesting is the key.
It's in the plug. In the clump. In the clump.
Oh.
Oh, there it is. It fell out. And it's a button. Not a big one. A little one, but a button. Another one.
Full shank on this guy, too. What a beauty.
Nice to get the shanks on there. Let me brush it down and get a good look at it and see if there's anything on the front of this one. I have a feeling this one's going to be plain, but let's clean it up and see.
All right, there's the newest button.
Another little cuffsiz one. This one's a flatty, like I said. And I don't see anything on it yet. I mean, there's still a little bit of dirt, but usually you would see the design coming through.
I'll clean it better when we get home, but I don't like to rush through it. So, at the moment, I'm going to say no design. The back, I did brush it off pretty good. Full shank standing up most of the way. Wire shank brazed on. Early preivil war button. Almost looks like it's recessed in a little bit where the band is. And I could see a little bit of writing around the outside. Probably the makaker's mark or somebody bragging about how good their guilt was. Double guilt, triple guilt, best guilt in the world. Battle of the guilts back then.
But another cool button. I will put this one in the case as well. And we're going to keep on marching on.
Oh man, this is going to be a coin, I think.
Very crisp. Oh, you hear all the stops?
Just gone. 8485.
Let's hope and see.
Could be a silver coin. Could be a large copper coin. I haven't seen anything modern in these fields. So, I'm not even thinking about like a modern dime or a modern quarter. Think it's going to be something old.
Still down there. I might have missed it on the left. I doubt it's deeper. Let's see. Little bit of luck.
Nope. I did. Oh.
Oh, wait, wait, wait, wait. It's going to be a tag.
I think it's going to be a tag. This could be really cool. Not a coin, but a big coppery tag. Let's see if there's writing on it.
This could be a super cool artifact.
If there's writing on it. Oh, it's going to need some It's going to need some work.
Let me see if it's going to brush up quick or if I'm going to have to put you guys on hold.
It's a hole at the top. All right, it's going to take me a few minutes. Let me clean this up. And if I come back, that means there's something cool on this old tag.
All right, here's the tag I found. And it does indeed have writing. It's a shame this might have said something really cool and I can't read it. At the top, you can see a few letters. It looks like maybe a G, L, something, maybe a T.
And you can see a letter D on the center line with some more letters at the bottom. I think it says maybe 1701 or maybe N701.
I don't know if that's a date or an address or I don't know what the heck I'm looking at, but definitely an old copper tag that was hand punched with these letters. I just have no idea what this is off of, what it says, or when it's from.
Maybe we can straighten it out later and figure it out, but at the moment, super cool piece. Just can't can't read it.
Another one in the case. And we're going to keep marching down this field. And look guys, I tell you every single week.
And I'm serious. If you've ever wanted to go out and try to find old coins, old relics, heck, gold rings at your local beach and you need some equipment, go check out metal detecting shop.com/quarter orderer. That's metal detecting.com/quarterhoer and unleash your inner treasure hunter.
Bouncy 60s7s 70s and 80s this direction.
So I'm gonna dig it this direction.
Let's see what we got.
I'll come over here. Let's keep my shadow out of your way.
Let's see if we can get something good.
All right, it's out. It's bouncy. Not expecting the world on this one, but hopefully something good.
Oh, I see a circle. I see a circle.
It's another button.
Man, I'm having a good day. If you like old coins and buttons.
I don't feel a shank on this one. This one might be a plain old flat button.
Let me see.
Oh, hold on. Maybe, maybe a design. Might just be dirt and corrosion fooling me.
Shank missing on this one. But another nice old flat button. Wow, that's a thick one, too. Super cool. I will put in the KD and keep marching on. Having a heck of a good day.
All right, I'm coming out of the fields behind me. Got some really good stuff.
Came back to the cars. Going to get a drink and go join them out in the other field behind me. We're trying to locate where the house was. It might have been where I was. I mean, two coins, shoe buckles, silver coins, a bunch of buttons, but who knows what's out there.
So, I'm going to take a drink, get something to eat. I'm going to probably start off on that section. Those guys are out in this section. Going to try to separate, find the hot spots, see if we can track down this old home site. That way, in the future, we can come back and really hunker down and work one small section all day long. So, let me get some water. I'll recharge my machine for 20 minutes and get back out. Find some more stuff.
>> Angela's got something. She open it up and down. Let's see what she's got.
>> She's been working hard all day. Her dad came as a machine, too. Let's see. I thought her button was good. I don't know what you got that you're doing.
Jumping jacks in the field.
>> Uh-oh. Uh-oh. You might have a You might have a copper coin there. You do. You have a copper coin.
>> This is the magic. Look, even with like two days experience, you get on the right spot and you work your butt off.
You've been here hours and hours with us.
>> Two days. Talk about 56 years, my friend.
>> Well, I'm saying using a metal detector.
All right, let's clean it up. Now, listen. I got to warn you. We've got three on the day. They've all been slick and unidentifiable. Let's hope yours is better.
>> Oh, mine's going to be identifiable.
>> Let's brush it and we're going to see and get your dad to come. If your dad's even coming.
>> I can't find him. We want >> I know. Listen that we all separate. 6 acres. I'm never going to find him.
>> This is the first time I've seen Doug since 8:00 this morning. It's like 3.
All right, we're going to clean this up.
Congratulations, Angela.
>> Thank you.
>> Let's see if we can figure out what it is.
>> All right, there's Angela's coin. And listen, if you've been watching this channel for a long time, you know that copper coins are one of our favorite things to find. Absolute favorite things. And I've been doing this 12, 13 years. Angela's been metal detecting a day and a half and got herself an incredible colonial error copper coin.
Now, we can't get an ID on it yet because it's a corroded just like the ones we found. You know, at the top there at 12:00 right above my thumb, I do see what could be a little part of a head, but it's bumpy, lumpy, corroded, and flump and thumpy. So, I don't know.
Both sides, unfortunately. Actually, I do actually, you know what? Hold on.
I think I see the top of a bust on this side. And I actually think I see Britannia right there >> with her right arm outstretched. I think it's a King George II half penny.
>> Wow.
>> I think it's a King George II half penny. I could be wrong. If it is, it's still it's going to be 1700s either way.
>> It was a very exciting find.
>> Absolutely. It never gets old either. It never gets old. Right there. I see Britannia.
>> Yeah, I see you bust.
>> Fantastic coin. I'm really proud of you.
Congratulations. You've been working hard out here. This was an incredible find. It was really exciting.
>> I know. I saw you doing jumping jacks from across the field, so I ran over.
>> Listen, I feel like a little kid out here.
>> And the good thing is, Angela, we still have about 3 hours left, so you might find another one.
>> Oh, you know, >> maybe a silver coin, maybe a shoe buckle.
>> Then I could buy a loaf of bread at the tavern.
>> Back then, you could have. Excellent find. Congratulations. Well done.
>> All right. Well, I left that field way on the other side of the barn where I found all the good stuff this morning.
came over to this field because this is where Rich has been for most of the day and I wanted to see what he's got. And as I walked up, he just got himself something else. So, let's take a look.
Doug had to leave. Rich, he said to say goodbye.
>> He had a couple buttons, too, but I didn't get to film him. He uh we were all kind of separated most of the day.
Is that it right there?
>> Yeah, >> that looks thick.
>> I think we're going to need uh to brush that.
>> You think? Yeah, it's Oh, I thought Oh, I thought that was the shank side for some reason. I'm pushing. That's the shank. It's a It's either >> No, that's definitely a button. I can >> It's a two-piece or it's a >> Oh, you think it's a two? Oh, you got a brush. You think it's a two piece?
>> Yeah. Look, it's coming apart on the edge.
>> Oh, all right then. Yep. No doubt.
Two-piece.
>> What's it going to be, though?
Uh, I have no idea.
I see some guilt, though.
>> Oh, what the heck is that?
>> That's like >> That's weird. Weird. Is that even a >> No, I I can definitely see. It's really strange looking. And you know what's weird too, Rich? It like Listen.
>> Yeah, >> it feels like it's like hollow, but it looks old. I mean, the shank looks old.
>> Nice old wire shank.
>> I should have brushed the back.
>> That's weird. But I do see a lot of cur like swirly whirly things on it.
>> And there's >> All right, we'll we'll brush it and come back in a second. There's a little bit of a mystery. We'll see if we can get some more detail off that weird anomaly of the button.
Well, it's not cleaned up real well. So, this is what you're going to get to see.
A strange little button. I mean, look at it's like cracked all the way around. So, definitely a two-piece.
Definitely old with that nice wire shank braced on, but it sounds weird and it looks weird. So, I'm not sure what I'm looking at.
>> I found a couple more here. Yeah, he's got a few more when I walked over here.
>> Looks like the success I was having in the other field, you were having just as much success in this field.
>> Good size.
>> Anything on him? That's a tomach. I think >> Oh, I think you're right. I think that is a tomach.
Wonder if there's an etched marking on it.
>> You must have found this two hours ago cuz that dirt is like concrete now.
Yeah, >> that's why we try to keep them moist normally, but >> it's hot today and he's been carrying it for who knows how long.
>> It's weird when we separate. I don't get to see everything when you find it, but we cover more ground and figure out what fields are hot so we can uh when we return, we know which ones are worth returning to. Well, good find. I'm going to join you over here for uh you know, a couple hours and probably until the sun goes down.
>> What number is yours, Rich?
>> 28 29.
>> All right.
>> On the Legend one.
>> All right. My signal here on the Legend Two 91.
I mean, I don't know if it's a real 91.
We're going to see. We're going to have a good old fashioned New Jersey dig off.
Rich, >> it's the fake 91.
>> Well, you know, it could be a scratchy iron one. Good luck. I challenge you to the dig off.
Oh, mine sounds good.
I might I might have a shot to really win this dig off. Come on. Give me something here.
I think it's out.
It doesn't sound that good now, though.
I think it's going to now I said it sound like a bad 91. I think it's going to be a hot rock. Yeah, I can see it.
It's a hot rock. Just that one angle.
That's why I said it was a bad 91. Did you get yours out yet?
>> No. It might be a wild goose chase as well.
>> Oh. Oh, yep. Mine was a hot rock, which is very easy to be beat.
You could beat a hot rock with almost anything, but if his is a wild goose chase, meaning he has nothing, my hot rock wins.
>> I don't hear anything.
>> Oh, my hot rock can win. Did you pinpoint over the hole?
>> Not yet.
>> Right there, Rich. It's >> yours might be a hot rock also.
Right around there.
>> Y'all don't hear it.
>> No.
>> It's got to be like right here.
Huh? Let me >> try mine. Hold on.
something in there.
>> Iron.
>> So, who wins? My hot rock or that iron nail?
>> Might be a draw.
>> I don't tell Lynn.
>> You have to solve a mystery for us. We had a good old fashioned New Jersey dig off.
>> Okay.
>> One of us, we're not going to say who, dug a hot rock. The other one dug a rusty iron nail. Who wins?
>> Is the nail square?
>> Um, I guess the square would win.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> All right.
>> I think a nail wins anyway over a hot rock.
>> Oh, you son of a gun. Rich found the nail.
>> I won the Jersey Dao.
>> Uh, you would win anyway because my >> unbiased.
>> My rule with Brad is when there's a tie, the tie break goes to whatever item would help you better in a survival situation and the nail you could fend off someone.
>> You kill somebody. where mine I can only throw it once and it's not it's like so light and porous it wouldn't even hurt.
>> No.
>> So, >> no. The rock would just kind of give you a >> Yeah. Yeah. It would just bounce off.
It's like a ping pong ball. The hot rocks.
>> All right. Good find. Rich, congratulations on the win.
>> Darn it. Maybe next time.
>> Bouncy.
Well, let's see. Could be something decent.
I feel like I might have moved it. I think it's still like 6:00 though.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah. There it is. Okay.
Definitely moved it now.
Might have felt The heck.
Finally.
Most elusive target ever. Oh, might be another button.
It's a little button. It's a nice little button. Is there a tiny tiny little little cuff button? Is there a shank on it?
Just the nub of where a shank was. I'll get a closeup of this because not only is it my like I don't know 10th button of the day, but that might win the last 45minute challenge with Rich and Lynn.
Super cool.
All right, we're wrapping it up for the day. Uh we got a lot of stuff over here.
I'm going to show it to the homeowners again. Did the house last week, did the fields this week, found some absolutely amazing things. Doug had to leave early, but here is our haul. Uh, incredible.
And I'll start with the relics first.
Lynn, which I didn't show in the video cuz it wasn't next to when she dug it.
Got this. I think three ring bullet. I think it might be like part of a broken Williams cleaner, but we're not sure.
So, any three- ring bullet experts out there, love to hear your opinion. Lynn got she said it was a crow a crow's head.
You put it in there.
>> I That was just, you know, me.
>> I didn't know you were going to commentate.
>> All right, I'll skip that. Uh, piece of a harmonica read. We've got the drawer pull. We got the two bucking balls. We got the lead uh pointy thing. This thing, a thimble from Angela. Uh, the shoe buckle frame. Super nice relic there. And then this uh name plate. I don't really know what it says, but awesome to get that. Buttons, buttons, and more buttons. Rich, how many buttons in total? 40 buttons.
>> 40 buttons. Now, this is also with a twohour prehunt earlier in the week. Uh, which what's I think we got 18 or 19 and then another 20ome today.
>> But, I mean, if you like buttons, what a selection of buttons. Some of them are upside down.
>> Some of them are fancy. Everyone got buttons. Myself, Rich, Lynn, Doug, Angela, uh, everyone that hunted got themselves a button. So, incredible button field. And then the good coins of the day and the only coins of the day in the field. The top one Lynn found, we don't know what it is. It's a penny of some sort. Could be an Indian, could be a wheat, we don't know. Uh, three large cents. Uh, this one that I found, none of them we were able to ID, you know, 100% accuracy. All three of those are the large cents. And then the two best things in the field, the uh, seated liberty dime as well as the cap bust half dime. And Rich, there was a Barber quarter found in the field also, but I think they brought that in the house already.
>> So, there was a third silver coin. Three different coins, all different sizes, all different denominations, too. So, super cool there.
>> But all in all, an absolutely incredible time. So, I can't thank the property owners enough for letting us come on this place yet again. And we might even come back one more time, Lynn, before they plant this place. And the sun is right in my eyes, only so I can capture Rich on top of the truck. But uh we're going to take off. I'll put this inside with the rest of the stuff from the house. And man, they're going to have a good time looking through it all. But we're out of here. I can't see. I'm totally blind. Thank y'all for watching.
Happy hunting. We'll see you on the next one.
>> Later.
