[00:00:44]Mr. Siddaramaiah put in his resignation today. With that, the roads are now clear for his deputy, D.K. Shivakumar, to finally take over the torch.

[00:00:54]In his final breakfast meeting as Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah reportedly broke down, and so did many of his loyalists.

[00:01:02]But, the pictures that came out would have done Rajshri Productions very proud. There were hugs, and there were handshakes between the two rivals. At one point, DKS even bent down to touch the feet of the man he has been at war with for the last 6 months.

[00:01:20]So, is all well that ends well?

[00:01:23]Well, DKS is realizing his dream, yes, but Siddaramaiah has ensured that he's going nowhere.

[00:01:30]Today, he told the press after his resignation that the high command had offered him a Rajya Sabha seat, but he declined because he wants to remain active in state politics.

[00:01:40]DKS, sitting right next to him when that was said, would have probably mentally reached out for a painkiller.

[00:01:47]Take a listen to what the outgoing Chief Minister said.

[00:01:52]>> Yeah.

[00:01:59]Rajya >> So, ladies and gentlemen, resignation and press conference done. Siddaramaiah has flown straight down to Delhi and DKS will follow suit. Mr. Siddaramaiah, a man who has been Chief Minister for 8 years and leader of opposition for another 8 years in his 20-year stint with the Congress is in Delhi to demand his pound of flesh.

[00:03:16]Primarily, he wants three things. Number one, his loyalists get cabinet berths and plump posts. Number two, his son Dr. Yathindra gets a place in the cabinet.

[00:03:28]And number three, his loyalist Satish Jarkiholi is made the KP KPCC chief.

[00:03:35]As that happens, there is also buzz, ladies and gentlemen, of Mallikarjun Kharge's son, Priyank Kharge, being made Deputy Chief Minister. So, if that happens, there will be not one but two sunrises in the state of Karnataka.

[00:03:49]The BJP, meanwhile, has started its sniping, saying that the Congress is anti-OBC because it has dumped an OBC Chief Minister.

[00:03:58]They say a change in a Chief Minister will not stop the loot by the Congress in Karnataka. Listen in.

[00:04:06]>> I don't think Karnataka's interest will be protected.

[00:04:09]So, in the interest of people of Karnataka, it's better to dissolve the assembly and head for the assembly elections. Congress has become an ATM for the Congress high command.

[00:04:19]>> It seems as if money power for high command has prevailed over mass popularity.

[00:04:26]Rahul Gandhi was giving lot of Gyan about Jitni Abadi Utna Haq, Jati, OBC, etc. Now, you see the list of the Chief Ministers, Mr. Satish and Mr. Sukhu, Mr. Revant Reddy. Where is the OBC CM?

[00:04:45]>> All right, ladies and gentlemen. So, DKS will be sworn sometime next week. Of course, like any oath-taking ceremony in India, an astrologer will be consulted before a time and a date is set.

[00:04:58]But be that as it may, DKS has a task cut out for him. He has an election to face in the next 2 years, and there will always be a challenge in managing Sidda and his loyalists who dominate the house.

[00:05:11]Also, a challenge is going to be the central government that will come after him over his alleged corruption cases.

[00:05:18]But is an idle Siddaramaiah that will be his biggest sardar? That is the question this evening. But before I go to my guests, uh there is a scoop uh caught my colleague Imran is sending us from Bangalore.

[00:05:31]All right, we'll try and go across to Imran as and when we can. But the big scoop is this, he's telling us that the swearing-in ceremony is likely to happen on the 3rd of June. This is what Imran is picking up, but all will be decided but all of this will be decided and finalized only once Mr. Siddaramaiah and Mr. D.K. Shivakumar return from Delhi.

[00:05:53]Remember, Mr. Siddaramaiah is already in Delhi. D.K. Shivakumar, if I'm not mistaken, is at the Bangalore airport taking a flight to Delhi. So, the probable date is third, but that could change once the two men return from Delhi. Along with DKS, we are being told that there are 10 ministers who will be taking oath. Rahul Gandhi wants young ministers to be inducted because they are going to go into an election in the two in the next 2 years. So, he doesn't want anti-incumbency to play a part. Let me try and go across to our colleagues in Bangalore who are joining us. Uh All right. We'll try and go across to our reporters in just a bit as and when they are through. [00:06:45]Imran, good evening to you. You're joining us from Bangalore giving us that piece of breaking news that in all probabilities, if things stay as they are right now, all things remaining the same, the swearing-in could happen on the third.

[00:07:00]>> Well, absolutely so that right now the all the senior leadership is in Delhi right now. So, they are depending on one two the factors. One is the governors have to accept the resignation and the CLP meeting has to be called. So, earlier it was decided to likely to happen on first, but if the delays happen, it will happen on third. And along with D.K. Shivakumar, 10 ministers will take oath as the new ministers. And what we know is that all the 10 ministers will be young in inducting to the into the cabinet. And the what the instructions have got come from Rahul Gandhi is that most of them should be below 50 years is what he's looking at.

Shivakumar along with young 10 ministers will be inducted taking oath on the on the either most likely what looks like now third, but all depends on their return from Delhi tomorrow. Then we'll get more clarity after CLP meeting and the oath uh the date of the oath taking ceremony.

[00:07:52]Sanju Varma, can I start with you? And I just want to tell my viewers before I come to Sanju Varma that for some reason the Congress decided not to participate in this debate. They say they don't want to talk about it. They say it's an internal matter. So Sanju Varma, it's an internal matter of the Congress party.

[00:08:06]Why is the BJP sniping at the Congress then? And to begin with would you want to congratulate Mr. D.K. Shivakumar?

[00:08:14]>> You know, Shreya, you always put me on the mat.

[00:08:18]But let me try and you know, not duck the googly that you've thrown at me.

[00:08:24]Congratulations will be in order when D.K. Shivakumar takes oath.

[00:08:29]He's potentially likely to be the next Chief Minister from what I gather by way of media reports. But why is the BJP sniping and snapping at the Congress?

[00:08:39]No, we are not. But is it an internal matter of the Congress? Oh, certainly not. Karnataka is a very big state.

[00:08:47]Karnataka, you know, sends 29 MPs to the Lok Sabha. And to say that, you know, what happens in Karnataka is the Congress's private business, I completely disagree with that because we have finally realized that an OBC Chief Minister has been given the short shrift. And this is the same Rahul Gandhi who goes to every platform shouting You know, Narendra Modi OBC work which he has done since Narendra Modi is the first OBC Prime Minister of India thanks to the BJP. You know, if hypocrisy had a face, that face would look like Rahul Gandhi's. But the moot point IS THIS. DON'T FORGET THAT ELECTIONS ARE THERE in 2028. And I have no problems in admitting, Shreya, that in 2023 BJP's tally fell from 104 to 66.

[00:09:37]Whereas the Congress is tally rose from 80 80 to 135. But the good news is that the BJP has never lost out in terms of VOTE SHARE. YOU KNOW, YOU LOOK AT THE LOK SABHA ELECTIONS THREE in a row, 2014, 19, 2024. You look at the assembly elections three in a row. BJP's lowest vote share is 36%. BJP's highest vote share from Karnataka in 2014 was around 51%.

[00:10:03]So, we to our vote share AND THIS TIME WE PROPOSE TO raise the number of winnable seats as well given the chaos which the Congress party finds itself in Karnataka.

[00:10:14]>> Manasi Thapar, do you find it a bit odd like I do and like probably everyone in this panel does that the Congress does not want to speak on a leadership change in just one of the four states that that that they are in power in. Is that strange to you? Is that not strange to you? And is the Congress right in saying this is an internal matter of the Congress party.

[00:10:38]Sanju Verma is saying, you know, if there is a leadership change in any state, it's not an internal matter of the party. It's an it's a matter of the entire state and the entire country with other parties like the BJP having a stake as well. Would you want to respond to that?

[00:10:52]>> I think I think Sanju is making a very valid point but the same point she didn't make in 2022 when Uttarakhand two Roberts were replaced by Dhami. In Gujarat, Rupali was replaced by replaced by Patel. In Tripura, Dev was replaced by Saha. Khattar was replaced by Saini in Haryana. In Karnataka itself, Yeddyurappa was replaced by Bommai. So, at that particular time, BJP was not BJP was not answering Yeah, Bihar. So, so you also Maharashtra. So, there are multiple states and BJP doesn't it's the greatest strategy, the greatest political plot which BJP is playing. But when other political party does it, so that is a betrayal to their own voters and everything. So, all the real realism will come only when some opposition party does it. This is This is a playbook of BJP and no one has mastered this changing of state ministers what BJP has done. In fact, in 2021, four chief ministers in 6 months were changed. At that particular time, it was like reformist reform reformative things which were happening in BJP. So my whole point is it's a political decision and let it be a political decision. Why do you want to make it a hue and cry when you does it? That's a des bhakti or a state bhakti. When Congress is doing it, that is anti-national or anti-state anti-Karnataka. So then The only logic let's let's let's leave Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Tripura, Haryana, and Rajasthan, Bihar, and Maharashtra.

[00:12:11]Let's only talk about Karnataka. When Yeddyurappa ji was replaced by Bommai, so what was the reason? So wasn't wasn't it anti-Karnataka at that particular time? It was political.

[00:12:20]>> But but Manasvi but Manasvi, my limited point is back then I remember the BJP coming on all television channels and explaining their point of view. What is the problem of the Congress not coming for TV debates on this issue? They are so scared of you that you don't Why are you embarrassed about it? Is Is the point I'm trying to make. It's only because you are embarrassed. You feel that you are not in a good position to make a good point, which is why you decided not to show up for debates on the subject. Why? It's my limited question.

[00:13:46]You know, Shreya, I'm so glad that Manasvi brought in some points related to Uttarakhand and Gujarat. LET ME SAY ONE THING. WHEN VIJAY RUPANI replaced Anandiben Patel as the Chief MINISTER OF GUJARAT, THERE WAS NO PUBLIC CLEANING OF DIRTY linen between Rupani and Anandiben. When Vijay Rupani WAS REPLACED BY BHUPENDRABHAI PATEL, THAT TOO JUST 9 MONTHS AHEAD OF THE Gujarat 2022 elections, I do not recall Bhupendrabhai Patel and Vijay Rupani at loggerheads with each other washing their dirty linen in public. When Pushkar Singh Dhami, prior to becoming the Chief Minister, WAS PRECEDED BY Tirath Singh Rawat and Trivendra Singh Rawat, I did not see Dhami versus the two Rawats. So, the limited point is, yes, in any political party, personal ambitions do come into play, but at the same time, the BJP is the only political party where succession has been far smoother than any political party in India, and the biggest examples in recent history are Uttarakhand and Gujarat. AND MY FINAL POINT IS THIS. PLEASE BEAR WITH ME FOR 20 SECONDS. I COME from the state of Maharashtra. Maharashtra may Shreya, IT IS VARSHA GAIKWAD VERSUS PRITHVIRAJ CHAVAN versus Nana Patole VERSUS ASLAM SHAIKH VERSUS BHAI JAGTAP.

[00:15:12]IN RAJASTHAN FOR THE LONGEST TIME, IT WAS SACHIN Pilot versus ASHOK GEHLOT. IN CHHATTISGARH FOR THE LONGEST TIME, IT HAS been T.S. SINGH DEO VERSUS BHUPESH BAGHEL. [00:17:45]Shivakumar has replaced him. The BJP only for the last 3 years has been calling him Maha corrupt, looting Karnataka, etc., etc. Now you're saying the core OBC Chief Minister was going to drop card here. Congress is anti-OBC.

[00:17:58]You I mean the BJP also has to make up its mind on what they are targeting the Congress for.

[00:18:04]Kamal Kaushik G, Karnataka 3 7 50 Congress stability transition achievement Nevertheless, Shreya, you know what is interesting is that Siddaramaiah while resigning says that he won't move to the upper house. He would remain active in state politics.

[00:18:22]Now if a Chief Minister with all the cast cards up his sleeves, 2 years before the election says I'm going to remain active in state politics, while his deputy takes over, it means only one thing that in the upcoming elections, he will play the cast card to enable a mandate for the Congress party and then use that leverage to again go for the CM-ship. It means nothing else. So what we thought was the dramatic finish to a long drama playing out is actually a cliffhanger and we have to buckle ourselves up for season 2. The BJP now has all the ammunition to target Rahul Gandhi. He might get the children to play OBC democracy OBC that will go on. But to me, I think this is still not over. Siddaramaiah, the way he was conducting himself in press conference today, saying that he's been made to step down, that he still wants to give more to the state of Karnataka, not to the national politics. Though in Delhi, they feel that he's an OBC leader, he could be a national face, but Siddaramaiah is very focused on Karnataka even now. So, the next 2 years, you'll see a lot of permutations around the caste being played out. And remember, even if DK Shivakumar is the Chief Minister, the BJP might want to make its own agendas, but Siddaramaiah still holds the caste benefit. And if in 2028 elections, that becomes the talking point, Congress will have season two of this drama, and 2 years from now, Shreyan Tushar will still be discussing that who is actually the Chief Minister of this state.

[00:19:52]>> And we'll bring Neeraja ji as well after 2 years to discuss the same thing.

[00:19:56]Neeraja ji, is that going to be the biggest headache for DK Shivakumar? The fact that Mr. Siddaramaiah has very politely declare a declined the high command's offer of a Rajya Sabha seat.

[00:20:08]In fact, he tweeted today to say that I've resigned as the Chief Minister, but I've not quit active politics. An active Siddaramaiah, Neeraja ji, sounds like very bad news for Mr. DK Shivakumar.

[00:20:21]>> Yes, the challenge for Mr. DK Shivakumar is going to be huge on several counts.

[00:20:26]A, he'll have to keep Mr. Siddaramaiah happy, induct his own followers and confidants in in the cabinet. That, of course, they're going to do.

[00:20:38]That is very clear. But, you know, the the parting shot by Mr. Siddaramaiah of accepting the caste census that he ordered in his second term, the report was ready in 2025, and it was only hours before that the report was handed over to the government and accepted by the government. Now, if you remember in his first term, there had been a report. And the Vokkaligas and the Lingayats, Vokkaligas are a community to which Mr. Shivakumar belongs? They had We know they had not liked it at all. So, this OBC versus the intermediate caste controversy is likely to rear its head again, no doubt about it. And it will be a very difficult one to walk the tightrope. If he pleases the OBCs, which is Shivakumar will have to contend with the his own caste and the Lingayats.

[00:21:35]>> Very powerful communities.

[00:21:37]And then there IS THE OBC FACTOR, AND THAT IS SOMETHING the BJP That is a card the BJP is going to play to the hilt.

[00:21:43]Not just in Karnataka, but elsewhere in the country also. And we know that, and the Prime Minister himself is an OBC.

[00:21:50]So, we have seen that play out in OTHER STATES, BUT I WILL SAY ONE THING, SHREYA.

[00:21:54]>> MHM.

[00:21:55]>> Unlike in other states, in Karnataka, despite the problems that there are going to be there, this time the Congress party has shown its old deft golden touch. YOU KNOW, IT IS UNTHINKABLE FOR A MASS LEADER OF THE kind of Siddaramaiah to make way for his junior. And you see the optics of them embracing. Of course, he'll have his politics. HE'LL PLAY HIS POLITICS, NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT. BUT THIS DID NOT HAPPEN in Rajasthan, this did not happen in Chhattisgarh. So, I think it's a it's a different kind of politics that Karnataka is putting out. And also, the consolidated the Congress has hold in the southern states. The south is becoming very important for the Congress, and Karnataka is going to be the next challenge for it in 2028.

[00:22:44]>> Uh yes, I think Manasvi wants to come in, but just to remind you, Neeraja ji, the BJP's fairly good at doing that. You're calling this the deft golden touch, but do remember that Mr. Shivraj Chouhan, despite being a very, very successful Chief Minister, was eased out by the BJP. Uh he had a problem, he made some noise about it, but beyond that he couldn't do much.

[00:23:04]>> You're absolutely I'm sure the BJP is going to come UP WITH ITS OWN DEFT GOLDEN TOUCH TO COUNTER WHAT'S HAPPENING in Karnataka BECAUSE THEY ALSO ARE in Karnataka. Karnataka has become very very important to retain for the Congress and for the BJP to wrest from the Congress in 2008.

[00:23:22]>> Manasi, you wanted to come in and then we can get Sanju in.

[00:23:26]>> Yeah, I just want to make one point from a political survival point of view from Karnataka's point of view and for Congress point of view, this is a major state which Congress is leading. There is no other political state there is a BJP surge all around the country and this is the only political major state which Congress is having a full majority and this is where they are showing their five guarantees. This is where the money bank the money flow is there. There is a huge deficit of funds between BJP and Congress. So, it is very important for Congress to show up and show show its own metal, get the young cadre on place. So, Congress has been known as a old guard.

[00:24:00]a safeguard while the young guards have not been given that kind of a priority while in BJP it's a complete thing. So, this is the this is that litmus paper. This is that platform to show they have 2 years in play and this can become a national stage for Congress to show that showcase that how they promote young leaders and how they can give them that stage and stature. So, I think it's it's a political move. It's a good move for Congress while it's a little late and very late in in politics from from BJP point of view, but I think it's a good start for Congress and they don't have anything left also with them.

[00:24:30]This is the only major political uh state which they have while other states are there. They are either partners, junior partners. They are not as strong as BJP. So, this becomes a good stage for them and I think they have done it very well. Uh unlike any other state, be it in be it in Madhya Pradesh, we remember how Jyotiraditya Scindia and and Kamal Nath fought. We remember what happened in Punjab. We remember what happened in Rajasthan. We have multiple examples. So, so BJP's BJP's current strong leaders uh the second layer or the third layer have come from Congress and BJP's okay with them because Congress had incubated such great leaders and they're okay to welcome them.

[00:25:08]>> Okay, so Tushar, essentially what Manasvi is saying that the Congress is finally getting its act together. Why do you have a problem with it? The transition has been smooth and yes, I mean if you if you discard the bickering of the last 6 months, what has happened between day before yesterday and today has been smooth.

[00:25:25]>> How is it smooth if Siddaramaiah sitting with DK Shivakumar is saying I'll be active in state politics?

[00:25:34]>> He still has 2 years to go.

[00:25:36]>> So, 2 years MLA become charity or ludo to killing in Israel. He will go for the 2028 election. He has the cast card. Why is HE FORGETTING >> BUT HE DOESN'T HAVE AGE on his side. He doesn't have age ON HIS SIDE.

[00:25:54]>> ALSO, Congress has a majority in Telangana or Himachal Pradesh as well.

[00:25:59]So, it's not about funds. It's how about the BJP will play it out while there is potential of enough factionalism within the Congress. That is what I'm saying.

[00:26:07]One was hoping that this would be the end to the drama today. It is not. That is what I'm saying.

[00:26:24]>> The fact is that Mr. Siddaramaiah had a relatively clean clean image. That is not the case with DK Shivakumar. Now, the conspiracy theory Sanju Verma is ki bus up Modi government and BJP now knows what to do. They will go after Mr. DK Shivakumar and start harassing him just because he's become Chief Minister.

[00:26:42]>> You know, I failed to understand BJP state jeet then also QUESTIONS ARE PUT TO BJP. BJP STATE HARTIYA THEN ALSO THE BJP HAD A GUN to its head. BUT BE THAT AS IT MAY, YOU KNOW, I WANT TO FOCUS ON ONE VERY important thing.

[00:26:57]RAHUL GANDHI AND THE PARTY ECOSYSTEM ARE SAYING, "OH, BJP NEVER HAD SKIN IN THE game with respect to Karnataka." Dekho kya halat ho gayi thi 2023 ke assembly elections mein. People need to understand one thing, Shreya, AND THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.

[00:27:11]Lok Sabha 2014, BJP won 17 seats from Karnataka. Lok Sabha 2019, 25 seats. Again, Lok Sabha 2024, 17 seats. In the last THREE LOK SABHA ELECTIONS, BJP's total tally is how much FROM KARNATAKA? 59. WHEREAS THE CONGRESS WON nine seats in Lok Sabha 2014, one seat in 2019, and again nine seats in 2024. THE GRAND TOTAL OF Congress in last three Lok Sabha elections from Karnataka is 19. 59 seats versus 19 seats. Which means in the last three Lok SABHA ELECTIONS, BJP HAS WON three times more seats than the Congress from Karnataka alone. So, if anybody wants to dismiss BJP as a serious player in Karnataka, I just want to wish them good luck.

[00:28:42]THE CASE IS STILL pending on various fronts in the Supreme Court since 2023.

[00:28:46]Are you telling BJP solar system tha in 2026 DK SHIVAKUMAR MANTRI YOU'RE GIVING BJP TOO MUCH CREDIT IN terms of being a clairvoyant.

[00:28:58]>> You know, everyone is giving BJP too much credit yesterday. Yesterday also in Kerala we saw BJP getting credit from both sides. That was the most interesting yesterday for me.

[00:29:08]>> I want to just end by saying one thing Shreya. You know, BJP does not intervene with the judicial process whether you wish to believe that or not and I want to take this opportunity. I'm so glad you raised the Kerala issue.

[00:29:22]Attacking and vandalizing the vehicles of ED officials trying to intimidate them is something which is so typical of the Congress party's playbook. WE DON'T DO THAT.

[00:29:33]THE CONGRESS HAS BEEN TRYING TO intimidate law making agencies or fit UP AND DOWN THE HILL THEY BECOME AGGRESSORS THEN THEY BECOME THE VICTIMS.
