Great Romance Reads I Never Hear Anyone Talking About!Added:
Hey, everybody. Welcome back to Beachbumbookworm. I am Tiffany. I'm so glad y'all found me again today. My channel's all about cozy mysteries and romance books. And today I'm here with some underhyped under- rated either romance books, authors, or series.
I feel like we talk about a lot of the same authors and for good reason.
They're amazing. But, there's so many others and I just wanted to make myself a goal and I'm really trying to make sure that I When I read something that's not as given much love and attention, that I try to put it out there. So, that's what this series is going to be about. If you have any, put them in the comments below and let's just get started.
Couldn't talk there for a second. I got tongue-tied. In 3 2 1 >> [laughter] >> The first one is the Buffalo Tempest Hockey series. This is by Sylvia Pierce.
Now, there are three books in this series. They're all available on Kindle Unlimited. The first one is called Naughty or Nice. This one features Eva and Walker. And Eva is a former Olympian figure skater. And we don't know why, but she has stepped away from the sport.
And our main character, Walker, is a injured NHL player. And he really wants to get back to top-notch on the ice. And so, his coaches have really tried everything. And at this point, they bring in Eva, who is just some like physical therapy work with with skaters. And so, they start working together. Now, from the get-go, there's a little bit of a rivalry.
There's a little bit of not enemies to lovers, but definitely like some hostility between mainly on his side, but probably more out of being scared to not get back to the ice than anything else. We have a single mom in this one. We have um one of the best scenes in a hockey romance I read involving them being on the players bench. It was absolutely fabulous. Book two in this is Down to Puck. And this is Bex and Henry. And this is a friends-to-lovers.
I gave all these books five stars. And if you know me or have seen any of my romance content, I'm not a friends-to-lovers. Don't come at me. And we all like our own stuff.
Good on you if you like it. I'm not saying I'm against it. I gave this one five stars. It just has to be done right, but it's definitely not a trope I move or gravitate towards. This one was great. The third book in the series is Big Hard Stick. This is Roscoe and Ally.
Now, Ally is a single mom and a widow.
And her husband was killed in a work-related incident. Because of this tragedy, she is very scared to kind of live life and really just very terrified of what accidents could happen. And so, she has kind of kept her daughter from doing things. And her daughter really wants to play hockey. And she's really good at hockey. And her and her dad had a special bond where they played hockey together.
Well, it kind of starts out and we see Ally, the mom, the female main character, walk out on the ice and she like comes up to her kid and she's like, "Hey, what are you doing here? You didn't have permission." That sort of thing. And this kid, her daughter, is the best one on the ice. Now, Roscoe is helping coach this ice hockey camp. And so, that's where him and Ally come in contact. And this one was so fantastic because it had a lot of men not just men, but athletes in a professional setting athletes. So, the elite athletes very much supporting women in sports and the equality of women in sports. And I thought it was fantastic. This is a great series overall. I highly recommend. Next up is the Wilder Valley series by Casey Shay. Now, I have read three of the I believe five in this series.
So, this one the family, the Wilder family, own a family ranch. And book one, Wild Hearts. This is What is it?
Ryan and Val. And this is a second chance.
She becomes his nanny when she comes back in a town. She left town when and they were like dating at the time, but Wilder Valley was just very was too much too small for her. She wanted to get out and spread her wings. And Ryan wanted to work the ranch. And so, because of that, they kind of split up. Now, she hasn't been back in town.
And when she comes back all these years later, she becomes Ryan's nanny. And it kind of goes from there.
She comes back in town after a very brutal, public, humiliating breakup. So, she's very standoffish to relationships.
Number two is Wild Mistake. This is Aiden and Sarah. It's also a second chance. Now, if me recommending a second chance isn't crazy, then you haven't watched enough of my videos cuz I am along with friends-to-lovers, I'm not a huge second chance fan.
But, when it's done right, it works. And in this case, Sarah and Aiden, it's a it's always been you on both sides. And they were young and in love. Very much in love, but also very young. And Aiden kind of tells her at the last minute, without having like discussed at all or even like stated that this was a possibility, join the military out of high school.
And so, at first they start try to stay together. And he's like, "It's only 3 years and then we'll get married." And so, she's kind of clung to that. And the 3 years come up and she thinks, "Okay, now it's our time to be together."
And he tells her he re-ups. And so, that is kind of the end of the relationship.
Well, now both of them are back in Wild Valley for one reason or another. I thought it was fantastic. Very much yearning on both sides. Very much it's always been you. It was good. Book three is the last one I read in the series, Wild Love. Now, I want to start this with some major trigger warnings for cancer and death on page, but like long drawn-out illness and deterioration on page.
There's also depression.
If I had known that, I don't know if I read it. I if I would have read it. I still really enjoyed the book.
But, I don't know if I would have read it.
But, I have also had a parent pass away from cancer. So, um it just keep that in mind. If if if that's something that um is close to you, I would stay away from this one. So, Wild What was it? Love is Wilder and Sloane. Now, I don't know why they named him Wilder. It kind of irritated me cuz the series is called Wilder Valley and I'm like, "And you named one of your characters Wilder?"
Like you could think of anything else.
That's besides the point. Neither here nor there. That's not what we're talking about, but I just wanted to point it out because I thought it was weird.
So, when Simone was in college, she is out one night with her best friend and she is listening to this awesome band. And her and one of the band members goes home and has a one-night stand. Now, they realize right away that their connection is probably more than a one-night stand.
And they do exchange numbers, but he never calls or she gives him her number.
And he never ever calls. And she's always wondered about this for years.
They've Both of them have thought numerous times about this connection that they had, even though it was only one night. Well, now it is like 20 years later, 23 years later, something like that. And she is in Wilder Valley for circumstances. He is there for circumstances as well with his family.
That's in the what's involved in the illness. And they start dating they start dating. And he doesn't remember who she is. So, she tells him that she is the the name that she gives is the best friend that was with her that night 20 some years ago. So, he doesn't even recognize that it's Simone or, you know, anything. But, they start dating and they are hitting it off and all these things. She's like, "Oh my gosh, what am I going to do? He's going to eventually find out, you know, and this and that."
And both of them have things on their side on um their in their lives that is hard right now.
So, that is kind of their story. It is wonderful, but it is like I said, please check your trigger warnings for this one.
Okay. So, the next series is the Glendale Magic series. Now, I did this last night. And the more I thought about it, I'm only recommending the first book. And I'll tell you about the second book because if it's something that you may not you might still enjoy. But, the more I thought about it, I'm like, "You know what? I don't know." Okay. So, this is by Mary Warren. And I've read the first two books and I think that there's four or five in this one as well. Book one is called Connor. And I read both of these on Kindle Unlimited.
This was fantastic. This is Connor and what is her name? Sasha. And Sasha is a uh social media influencer. And she steps away from that because she had a stalker that was kind of getting closer and closer despite all of the things that she was doing to keep herself safe. And so she takes a job as a social media person for this NHL team.
And Connor is a player on this team.
And immediately Connor is attracted to her. However, he is like eye on the prize and that's the Stanley Cup. I'll have time for any distraction sort of thing. And the more they work together, he has a hard time keeping it separate, but also he starts realizing that she has a stalker. So this is a romantic suspense because the stalker has tracked her down and is now starting to up his game and Connor's like no, no, no. You're going to move in with me. And that's where the story goes from there.
This was really great with found family.
This was really great with banter.
All of these books I'm mentioning today have fantastic banter because in order for a romance to really work for me, it has to be there.
So know that going in.
The other thing with this book and really this both books in the series so far, there is great plus-size representation in that the character is plus-size and that's all there is to it.
I feel like a lot of times what we see as plus-size representation positively is just fetishizing it.
Um you know, like the quarterback gets the curvy girl.
Why is that a characteristic that you're putting on the cover? You don't see the quarterback and the skinny girl. It's like, oh my gosh, he's a quarterback, but he would still want the big girl?
Oh, wow. Give him a medal.
And to me, that's not what I want as plus-size representation. Um but I thought this series did a fantastic job at it. So number two is Cash. And I liked it because I liked Cash, but the more I thought about it when I was doing this video, I'm like, ooh, do I want to recommend this? Okay, because the main female character was a little insufferable.
So did I even write down their names?
Cash and I cannot think of her name.
But she became friends with Sasha.
Sasha's the main character in the first book because she is a figure skater coach. And at the beginning of this book in Cash, number two, there's going to be a gala charity event and the hockey players are going to auction and bid on these different charity events that they can be a part of.
And one of the things is doing hockey lessons at this rink where she is a figure skater coach, our main character.
And Cash and her immediately are attracted to each other and they have a one-night stand. And Cash is one of those guys that he does not want a relationship. He wants to continue to enjoy women, but that's it. He doesn't want He doesn't want anything. And he's very upfront about that. But he soon realizes very early on that even though that's what his brain wants, it might not be what his heart wants cuz he really he really takes a liking to this girl and kind of commits to I'm going to be with her pretty quick for someone who doesn't want a relationship.
It was she was at times insufferable.
These are people in I I'm going to say like mid to late 20s, maybe even 30s.
I'm not exactly sure.
But she would do things like she would get upset with him and like block him on her phone. And um it just was so immature and like the amount of times that she went back and forth with oh I oh okay, I'll be with him too. No, I shouldn't. was Now listen.
It's okay if a couple times you hear that we shouldn't be together because of this or I have too much of this going on, whatever. But like she keeps doing it and and I I can't tell you how many times. Like we were way far in the book and she still and I was like, oh my gosh, if I was Cash gosh, sorry. Oh my gosh. If I was Cash, I would walk away.
I couldn't I couldn't take it anymore. I just So I don't know if I would recommend this, but I did love him as a character and I did love the found family in book two as well. I loved the banter. Did I say that already? I'm sorry.
Um but ooh, she was she was very frustrating, very, very frustrating at times. The next one I have is an author. So I did not know about this author until fairly recently and I have like devoured a lot of her books since finding out with her.
If you've seen my wrap-ups, you might know who I'm going to talk about here because all of a sudden like you're hearing this name a ton from me.
How I never heard of her before? I have no idea because this lady is talk about under-hyped. It is Teagan Hunter.
I love her writing style.
She writes the best banter in her books. Not just among the the two main characters, but the whole friend group. And I know some people don't like this and I don't know what to tell you. It is a favorite thing of mine. So I really recommend her two hockey series. So she has the Carolina Comments Comments and she has the Seattle Serpents. And in the Seattle Serpents, there is a group text among the hockey players and I think it's historical. Now I've been hearing a lot of BookTubers and they're like, oh my gosh, I can't stand the group text. I don't know what y'all are talking about.
I definitely don't fall into that camp because I love it. This author if like if you like found family and you like the guys kind of like picking at each other, but are still very supportive and all that stuff, you are going to love her writing. And the romances are top-notch.
Again, she has a couple other series and I want to get to those, but they are She is a new favorite auto buy author for me. Absolutely love her. Now it is your turn. Leave me in the comments your under-hyped books, your under-hyped authors, your under-hyped series, anything else that you want to talk about. If you just want me to know that you were here and that you stopped by, leave me a hockey emoji. I feel like a lot of these series revolved around hockey and if you know me, well, let's go Blues actually.
Let's go Blues next year.
But I do have a team I'm rooting for in the playoffs of course because um hockey doesn't stop just cuz my team's out. I love it too much. Oh.
Okay. So leave me a hockey emoji. Give me a big thumbs up for this video. And until next time, may all your future reads be five stars. Bye everybody.
