2026 JAECOO J5 1.5 Turbo (HEV) Compact Luxury SUV!π₯ Practical & Furl Efficient!Added:
Okay. So, here we are with the latest JU J5 1.5 L turbo HEV.
>> Yes. And [music] HEV stands for hybrid electric vehicle if you didn't know.
>> Yep. And what that means is first of all, this is not a plug-in hybrid. In fact, what it is is a regular good old hybrid where you have a petrol engine, an electric motor, and together you have about uh 220 horsepower which I just deployed right there in sport mode.
Woah.
>> And went through some water, too.
>> Yes.
>> And yeah, so it's frontwheel drive >> and the engine and the electric motor are combined by what's called the DHT or dedicated hybrid transmission.
>> Yes.
>> Which results in Yeah. 220 horsepower, 165 kW, 295 Newton m of torque and manufacturer claimed not 200 of 7.9 seconds, which I think is quite believable. No, Mah.
>> Correct. A >> rainy day so we did have some wheel spin.
>> Yes. And the rear comes with independent suspension arr. So we're going to test the rear as well. And I'm going to open my favorite feature here. It has a full panoramic moon roof.
>> Moon roof. Yeah. It's a bit of a compromise for you. I know. But it's a rainy day, Mahen. So >> no luck of a sunroof there. Anyway, >> now the J5 is basically a subcompact in case you didn't know.
>> Yes.
>> It's just 4.38 m long and 1 86 m wide, 1.65 65 m tall.
>> Yeah.
>> So, what's the ground clearance like?
>> Uh, it's 176 mm. I mean, it's about the same uh kind of ground clearance you get in this kind of category as well. Right now, Ashra, >> pretty decent, I'd say.
>> And also, the fact that it's not a plug-in hybrid means that >> it's more appealing for people who say live in a rented property or an older apartment or somewhere where you can't, you know, easily hook up a EV charger.
>> Yeah.
>> Because, uh, you're getting the best of both worlds. I mean, because this thing has a 1.83 83 kW battery which is charged by the engine.
>> So you do have EV only mobility. In fact, what I'm doing right now is driving purely on the motor. There it says EV also. Yeah. In your >> you can see that right >> cluster right in front of you.
>> So how are you finding the passenger seat right there? Good. And my seats ventilated. Yours too, right? And mine's four-way adjustable, right? And yours is six way adjustable.
>> Mine is six way, >> right? Uh, so I mean ventilated seats are definitely a welcoming feature, but today is a cold day. So, but still we like ventilated seats. So, Ju, thank you for that.
>> Let me help you out there.
>> Hello.
>> Switch off passenger seat ventilation.
>> Okay, >> there you are. I'm very >> switch off driver side ventilation.
>> Too low. [laughter] >> Too slow. So, it's got voice command as well, guys. And it's very responsive. We were testing it out earlier and um so Ash price point and warranty is something we will cover in my segment.
>> Yes. Because it's very tantalizing I have to say.
>> Exactly. And also if you look at the proportions of the vehicle overall this comes in uh or rather this test vehicle is in black and we've got five colors if I'm not mistaken and we're going to put that on screen. But I wish there were more colors uh you know some funky colors for people like me. But apart from that, I mean, uh, very interesting color schemes we have which we put on the screen. And the interior though, our test vehicle comes in this black and white combo, but actually the vehicles that will be sold by Hales Mobility will come only in a black trim. Full black.
>> Full black. Yes.
>> But you have the black and you have another little funky thing that you know will jazz up your interior at night.
Mah.
>> Oh, the ambient lighting.
>> Yes, the multiolor ambient lighting which is very tastefully done. I have to say it doesn't seem overly brash or you know like too bright or anything. It's very well judged and >> I'm just cruising around here and it's >> so cruising >> just shout out to Will Smith. [laughter] >> Yeah.
>> And we've got a lot of water here after the rain >> and Ash slowed down being a responsible citizen but then there were only plants around us Ashk had bit of a oh something the boot rolling around which we will be stopping and checking out now. thought it was thunder and yes we can do that now.
Speaking about the boot, Mah, it's yet another surprise of this vehicle, isn't it? See?
>> Ah, [laughter] he managed.
>> Yes.
>> Okay, perfect. So, that [music] is how like ash it out.
>> 480 L of space and we've got a tree fallen down here. Uh, it's been a hectic day today. It's actually night. Last night was very windy and uh it's been raining here over in Sri Lanka.
>> So, I'm really grateful for the automatic wipers. my hand.
>> Exactly. And the rear wipers actually there's a rear wiper.
>> There is a rear wiper too. It's not automatic as far as I can see. I have to manually control it from here.
>> But uh the main automatic wipers have been working very well. You know, I haven't had a reason to really touch the stock as such. It just switches on adjust its speed accordingly.
>> And the automatic headlamps too.
>> Ashra. Now, this doesn't come with a spare wheel. I mean, most new vehicles don't come with a spare wheel. It's got a tire repair kit and also I saw a first aid kit in the back. Very important.
Yeah. But uh where the wheel well is Ashra, there's still space for a spare tire. But then we we noticed that the battery is there as well. There's a battery.
>> Yeah. It's quite an interesting, you know, little setup back there. And I think that is because Mahen this vehicle the J5 in China or other markets are because I should mention that JU and its sister brand Omoda are brands of Cherry that are used for overseas markets only.
So you find a Jod branded vehicle in China or there will cherry vehicles that look remarkably similar because well many of these vehicles are also sold as cherry back there in China.
>> I have to say something right cherry I mean in Sri Lanka we are familiar with the cherry Q and I'm telling you it's a cuty little thing. Uh but it has fast forwarded like leaps and bounds I would say Rashik like the levels of comfort the the Cherry the Omoda and the JU lineup right if you look at them the vehicles their comfort levels are unparalleled actually like I do not comment on the comfort levels just for the fun of it I mean it when I say it right and uh this too shows that the comfort levels are really really good >> indeed and I'm also noticing that yes this driver seat is fairly well bold bolstered and it's pretty firm too. So on long journeys, you're not going to get any aches and pains in your shoulders or your back or whatever. And another point is the way the build quality of these things. Like for example, we noticed that that glove box is damped when you open it. It just Yeah. You can see it doesn't soft.
>> It doesn't drop out and just clang. It soft opens.
>> Yes. So yeah, they the Chinese have put in a lot of effort even at the low end because this would be coming in at the budget end in China >> and they have put in a lot of effort to make these products seem very premium and very plush I have to say. Just looking at the door cards here where it feels like soft touch leather is soft touch in fact.
>> Then you've got some nice contrast >> materials here. The door uppers also feel quite well put together. There's a bit of a fabricy effect on the dash. If I had to pick a bone with it, I'd say I'd like some physical controls for the air conditioning and things like that.
>> But otherwise, yeah, I mean, I can't really find much to fault it with.
>> Yes.
>> Another thing I really like, Mahen, is they've gone back to old school pull door handles. No more of those powered ones, which are illegal in China from next year onwards, by the way, >> due to safety reasons.
>> Exactly.
>> Yeah.
>> So, I was really happy when I saw the door handles on this. You know, it's just >> old school and it works.
>> Totally. So I think now it's time we gave Mahen the wheel. Yes.
So guys, it's Mahan's turn now. How you finding the driving position, Mah? Quite good. I just race myself up because Ash likes a lower down driving position and I like a high up one and I can do that in the JU J5, right? Uh it's a sixway adjustable passenger or rather driver side seat that I have. You have a fourway passenger side driver seat electrically adjustable, right? So I mean Ashra the feeling is quite familiar like I mean when we drove the other JCU models also in the lineup what is uh common I would say especially apart from the features and tech would be the comfort levels right I mean that is something that I'm really noticing here and I don't uh fake my comments on comfort. So good job.
>> Very comfortable, right? Not just the riding but the seats also. I did comment while I was driving how the driving seat was supportive and firm.
>> I'm getting a similar vibe from the passenger seat also ventilated as is the driver's seat.
>> So Ashra, in the front you've got a wireless charger, also a USB C port as well as an A port and a 12vt power socket. Right.
>> Yes. And there's another little USB port over there.
>> Can you guess where it is? [laughter] It's right up there in the windshield by the mirror.
>> It's here. So, you can like uh connect an aftermarket dash cam for example through that.
>> Very useful when you're running wires down the pillars.
>> Exactly.
>> Really awesome feature.
>> Yeah, I think uh Jo has thought about a lot of that. And in terms of styling also Ashk like I think it's not trying to be too futuristic. It has got the familiar type of front end with the J7.
I believe they call that the waterfall design. Right.
>> Right. Right. Right. So interesting. And also uh something to notice that this has a bit of Range Rover vibes, bit of Evo, bit of sport, right? Especially in the back. I noticed.
>> Yeah. The rear profile and the lights, right? So >> yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
>> It's a very very it's a very mature looking product, I have to say. I think that's the best way to sum it up. So very mature, very, you know.
>> Yeah. Sleek.
>> Yeah. And like you said, Ash, the build quality is something that I notice as well. And also in the rear you get uh air vents in the back as well as a USB typeA port.
>> Yes, a single port back there.
>> Of course, the rear seats are not ventilated, but you can easily carry three adults in the back. A >> it's a 60/40 split and we're going to show you uh how well that stacks up later on. And um Adidas features Ashek.
Now I was driving before and I think I was almost veering out of my lane and then it kind of warned me that I am doing so because blind spot monitoring right and then front collision warning as well as rear and it's got adaptive cruise control as well right which is useful especially for highway driving >> indeed and of course you have your lane departure emergency lane keeping >> take a break >> you've been driving for a long time please take a break >> y that's the driver monitoring system You've also got >> Yeah. You've got a 540Β° panoramic camera system on board. Six airbags. Mah.
>> Six airbags and eight speakers.
>> Eight speakers. Exactly.
>> Good sound system. Yeah. I mean, I was pretty impressed with it on the regular settings as well. I mean, there have been vehicles where we need to tweak things a bit, but the J5 is not one of them. You just put it to the regular normal setting and listen away.
>> Exactly. And >> I just engaged sport mode, right? And the urge is much more than eco obviously. And a lot of these settings you can uh configure uh through the touchscreen on here, right? Like the 13.2 in touch screen.
>> Yes. And I like the fact that there's just two driving modes, right, Mah?
>> Yes. Uh >> sport or eco?
>> Huh?
>> Sport for me.
>> You know, I'm going to disagree a little bit with you there.
>> Okay.
>> Because for city driving, I think eco is perfectly fine. Yeah.
>> Yeah. Fair enough. Yeah, exactly. And Ash, in terms of fuel economy, did we cover any points on that? No, we did not.
>> So, what do you guess viewers? What do you think that this SUV, the compact SUV does?
>> Fuel economy.
>> It's got a 51 L fuel tank and a claimed range of over 900 km.
>> Now, very interestingly, the manufacturer says you can do as good as 5.3 L per 100 km. Now, that translates to, drum roll please, 18.87 km per liter.
>> 18.8. Yeah, that's quite impressive. Now we should point out Mah that these are manufacturer claim figures and this vehicle is literally fresh to Sri Lanka.
It's basically a tourist on its first visa visit to Sri Lanka. So >> what it will do in Sri Lanka has yet to be tested.
>> Yes.
>> But I mean I have no reason to doubt that it would do less than 15 for example. It should be around that much or thereabouts cuz it's a I mean even right now Mah you're at 50 km/h >> on in EV mode.
>> Yeah. with a 57% battery >> and we've got a fuel tank that's about a quarter tank full with 196 km of range showing on that.
>> Yes. And uh Ash, so interestingly this is wireless in terms of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, right? And uh I think you can seamlessly connect your phone or your devices to the vehicle which is great and the voice command also is very sharp.
>> Yeah, we were playing with it earlier.
Go for it.
>> Exactly. Uh hi Ju.
>> Hi. May I help you? So uh you can uh either uh call on Ju through the steering wheel. You have a button or I think you can activate voice command so that you can just speak and uh say the keyword and uh Ju will come alive.
[laughter] >> And Ju is currently listening. So let me uh just press it again.
>> Yeah, now he's back.
>> Close sun shade.
>> Okay.
>> Oh, nice. So uh what happens is guys [music] if not uh right you have to press and hold this button over here uh just uh behind the rear view mirror. So it can get a little annoying. So [music] you can actually tell Jake to do that for you right and uh now you would have noticed it was sun shade and the reason for that is because we have a panoramic moon roof.
>> It's not openable.
>> Now that's part of the single spec that we get in Sri Lanka here. [music] >> Exactly.
>> And uh and with an all black interior.
>> Yes. But uh what we have here is a test car with a two-tone interior. So yeah, customer cars will be all black.
>> Yes. And uh what is the price point?
>> Yes. Very important. Should I tell them?
>> Yeah, go for it. Yeah. So the price point is very interesting. It's 17.9 million. And also Ash, the vehicle gets 7 [music] years or 150,000 kilometers warranty and the battery 8 years and 160,000.
>> Yeah. Which comes first. Now many competitors and alternatives of a similar kind to this vehicle would be coming in at closer to the 20 million point. So here Haley's mobility have managed to bring this thing down at just below [music] 18 million at the time of reviewing.
>> Yes.
>> Which makes it quite that's why I said at the start of my review rather tantalizing because you know you've got that psychological 20 million point.
>> Exactly. And even if you say 19, people are thinking that. But here you've got 17.9 and suddenly you know it [music] doesn't seem quite as you know financially daunting. You're right Ash.
>> So Mah an interesting question that [music] people who own hybrids like this ask is can I put 92 octane petrol in it?
>> No you can't.
>> You can't use 95 please. [music] Like don't skimp on it >> because this is a GDI or direct injection turbocharged engine. [music] It's not just like your normal basic naturally aspirated indirect injection engine that old hybrids or some current hybrids have.
>> So you need its refined fuel.
>> But having said that, if you do your cost benefit analysis, >> SEMA people out there, >> you'll see that you know 18 km per liter is not going to work out to be that much too expensive on a liter of 95 octane petrol.
>> Of course, we [music] can only hope that the Middle East war ends soon and petrol prices come back down to what they should be. Exactly. [music] Exactly. And uh yes Ashra especially like you pointed out right now if someone wants luxury uh you know height of an SUV [music] the comfort of you know even I could say sedan right and uh the driving feel of anything you want like if you want it to drive like an economic [music] car. Yes.
Or you want to drive it like a sports car. Well not like a sports car but if you want to drive it a little more [music] spiritedly you can do so as well in the JU J5. Right. And it's I feel a very good option for any family to consider. Interesting price point, interesting [music] design. And in terms of features and tech also, Ashak, I think it gives you a lot.
>> Yeah. And also another good point is the dimensions of it. Like I'm going to go over them again with you. 4.38 m by 1.86 m by 1.65 65 m which means that you know if you live in a house on rent or an apartment with smaller parking base or small garage this would make a bit more sense than some of its other competitors simply because it'll be easier to park and of course you don't need an EV charger because it's an HV and not a plug-in hybrid. So >> yeah few few reasons for this over some of the other competition that we have found. Yes. And also Ash something to notice that in terms of afterare right Haley's mobility is very well equipped to serve you well uh they're expanding their dealer network and also in terms of after sales they're very well equipped uh to uh handle you with care handle your car with care and >> how they handle you I don't know but I think they do have a customer lounge anyway. [laughter] >> Yes. Uh and so that's something I think I think most of our viewers ask as well Ashek and uh I have to reiterate the fact that this car is very comfortable.
I I believe the comfort levels in the back would be more especially since it's got independent rear suspension. So we're going to test that out now.
>> Yes.
>> So here we are guys in the back seat of the JU J5 >> because we wanted to show you that yes, three adults can easily fit in it. Two of us are extremely comfortable. You can see >> center armrest there.
>> My gimbal is there. Then we've also got >> airs.
>> Yeah.
>> Single charging port >> and >> USB type A.
>> Type A. Yes.
>> And we were using this to charge my gimbal actually in between shoots.
>> And I have to say once again the ride is very it's comfortable. It's not floaty.
>> Yes.
>> Feels composed actually.
>> Very good because um Ash the rear is independent suspension that we've got. M >> so I'm feeling a very European kind of vibe over here.
>> Very nice.
>> And of course we've got Yeah, you were just pointing out on your side as well the reading lamp over there.
>> Yes.
>> Useful thing.
>> Three headrests once again. The interior especially with this uh full length moon roof, right?
>> Yeah. It's pretty awesome.
>> Adding to the airiness of the interior.
So regardless of whether the interior is black or white when you put this sun shade you know when you open it right there's a lot of space or that that sense of airiness is something you will definitely notice >> precisely >> yes you got some hooks over here I think these are >> cargo hooks and of course you have since you have six airbags they also cover the rear compartment the curtain airbag >> and you can also just about see behind your head and mine the upper cargo tether hooks there.
>> Yes. But we have a cargo cover in the boot. So you can't use those unless you remove the cargo cover.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
>> You just be totally fine. I'm going to I'm going to enjoy doing this a lot.
>> There we go. Bye, Mahan.
[laughter] >> Now let's give him a couple of seconds to see if he can get out of there. See?
Ah, [laughter] he managed. Yes.
>> Okay. Perfect. So that is how you get out.
>> Police like Ashra. You take it out.
>> Here is how you have the release.
>> Yeah. Do you I I >> And there's a little thing in there. The yellow notch down.
>> Yes. I try once more.
>> So dear viewers, you can see how you do it. You have the little notch for your finger there and two cup holders too.
>> So 60/40 split and ash you can bring the seats down and then the rear seats fall down and you have a lot more space. You can, >> 180. Yes. 180 L of space with the rear seats folded down. And I must comment that the rear leg room is also quite impressive.
>> Exactly. Comfort of this vehicle is really really good.
>> Yep. And we've got a 2.6 m wheelbase anyway. So that helps no doubt with achieving this kind of rear space.
>> Exactly.
>> And how's head room, Mah? What do you think about headroom?
>> Let's do the monkey thing. It's it's quite good.
>> Quite good. Right. I think you're looking at about three palm widths there. We scientific measure, but you know what a palm width is. [music] Yeah.
About three you're looking at there.
>> A little less maybe if the cargo cover the Sorry. Sun shade is up but still >> sixfooters no problems at all I feel >> exactly and ash we've got seat back pockets here >> yeah the door pockets >> yeah and uh two cup holders [music] in the back in the front also you've got two and uh well I think this is a very interesting proposition even the interior I think overall I really like the styling of it because it's not too futuristic it's very nice [music] >> by the way there are also two ISOPIX mountings in the back for child seats that used the ISOIX method.
>> Oh yes.
>> Now many child seats in Sri Lanka still use the seat belt method purely but if you have one of those that can be fixed with ISOIX as well which gives a firmer and more secure tethering of the seat of the child seat the car seat you have that here as well. So that's our review of the JU J5. What do you think?
>> EV hybrid electric [music] vehicle.
>> I am impressed.
>> I'm impressed too as a family proposition. It's >> very sensible.
>> Exactly. [music] And uh yeah, a lot of features, a lot of tech, the styling is great, performance, and you know, everything you need actually and the comfort levels, right? That is I would say it's at least [music] very close to a fivestar rating in my opinion.
>> Plus the fact that it's a regular hybrid means that you don't need to [music] worry about charging if it's not possible or convenient for you to do charging. So yeah, just filled with petrolango. It's like those old [music] school, you know, Prius hybrids and that kind of thing in a way. Peace of mind is there.
>> Exactly. And Ash, a big [music] thank you to Harry's mobility. I mean this is actually I think the third in the lineup that we're testing [music] and we have more to come.
>> It's the fourth Mah because we've done the J7, the J6, the Cay and now this.
>> Oh yeah, now the fourth. Yes, correct.
It's the fourth now. Right. And big thank you to Rahan and Samantha [music] and everyone else who's part of the Hades mobility team for giving us the opportunity. Right. And we are looking forward to reviewing the rest of your lineup as well. So uh there you go guys.
Hope you enjoyed the video and if you did, you know what to do.
>> You know what to do cuz there's a lot more coming.
>> Exactly. See you and drive safe.
>> Thanks [music] for watching.
