This is why you can't bounce a ball under a table because no matter how you throw it, the ball always comes back out the same way it went in. And that shouldn't be possible. But here's what is actually happening. The moment the ball hits the ground, it picks up spin.
And when that spinning ball hits the underside of the table, it has backspin, which means friction forces it to travel back in the direction it came from. The angular momentum of the ball gets converted into a complete change of direction. And what makes this even more insane is that the same thing happens inside a square container. then an eight-sided container, then 16 sides.
And if you keep adding sides until you have a smooth cylinder, you end up with the exact same effect. Which means this simple ball bouncing under table and the golf ball paradox are actually the exact same phenomenon just at different scales.
