Effective family home management involves balancing daily responsibilities like meal preparation, household maintenance, and childcare with strategic organization systems. This video demonstrates how a mother of five manages her busy day by planning creative meals (pulled pork bowls and layered dessert), addressing home maintenance issues (roof resealing), organizing a cluttered game closet, and implementing a multi-functional dining room system for laundry and children's clothing storage. The key principle is that thoughtful organization and planning transforms chaotic family life into manageable, efficient routines.

Busy Day in the Life as a Mom of 5 | Giving Boys Haircuts | Mini Thrift Haul | Summer Life VlogAjouté :
[music] Hey friends, welcome back. Today I am going to take you guys along my day, what I've got going on. It is just a chill day of being at home. We're not going anywhere supposedly. Taylor's off work and I have a couple things that I need to get done today and I figured today's a great day to just vlog and bring you guys along with me. So, I have James sitting over here in his little bouncer. The kids are outside playing.
It's been raining a lot. I think today it's finally going to stop raining. So, it's really, really wet outside. Um, we did have a couple of roof leaking problems, uh, last night around like the fireplace insert in our ceiling by the hearth and all that. It's like leaking water in a lot of places. So, Taylor's going to get on top of the roof and try and figure out what he needs to reseal. We're starting to think it may have to be like a yearly resealing of what's up there.
And if that doesn't work, hire someone to come out here and just figure out what's going on. I don't know. We don't want our roof to be leaking. But [sighs] we're trying to figure it out. Homeowner problems, you know. So, today's plans are I got to get a pork butt in the crock pot. We're going to have these pulled pork coles saw bowls for dinner.
And then for dessert, we're gonna have this peanut butter chocolate like layer dessert in like a 9 by13. I really try to plan really fun meals when Taylor's off. So something I can put more time and effort into and we can enjoy our weekend with a yummy meal. Not that I don't cook yummy meals throughout the week. It's just this is something I can actually put forth creative energy into.
So uh that's what's for dinner tonight.
And I really got to work on that. I just I put the pork in the refrigerator last night. Didn't thaw all the way so I have it in the sink thawing. So hopefully it's thawed enough so I can get it in the crock pot. I have to clean the kitchen from breakfast. The goal right now is to clean the kitchen and get this all in the crock pot. I will share with you what I'm doing and then the recipe that I'm following down below. We're going to work on that. And then also yesterday I went to our local thrift store and they had like I think everything was 50% off and I love days like that. I actually ran into one of my friends yesterday that was there too. Um but I found a ton of puzzles for the kids and our game closet area is just really messy and cluttered and I need to find better organization systems for it and or just get up there and organize it all. So I'll probably do that with you guys and show you the puzzles I found.
But for now, let's [music] go ahead and clean this kitchen up and get this pork in the crock pot.
So, I figured I would chat with you guys. I haven't really sat down to actually just film an update of life lately, [music] but life here on the homestead with five kids is very busy.
[music] And I wanted to fill you guys in on just what's been going on. So, we of course welcomed our fifth [music] baby back in December. So, he is almost 6 months old, you guys. Can you believe that? I cannot. I feel like with [music] each baby, it just flies by. And we are just really trying to soak it up, especially knowing that James is probably our last little one. We do not know the future, but we just feel that way [music] and we're just trying to soak up all the little moments of him being a baby. And we've recently potty trained Roy, which he's 2 and a half. He'll be three in August. And [music] so it was time for him to learn how to use the potty like a big boy. and he has just been probably the easiest one I've had yet to potty train, which really surprised Taylor and I both cuz we were not expecting that.
So, that's been life. And it's been uh fun, but also very, very [music] busy.
And I'm glad I can sit down and get videos out when I can. And I know you guys understand that [music] life is busy. So, every Friday, I'm just trying to get a video out. And hope you guys have been enjoying them.
Okay, here is my little thrift haul from yesterday. [music] I found this stack of puzzles. The 300 piece seems to be really good for my kids age range.
Mainly Noble. He him and I can just sit and do a puzzle for like an hour and the 300 piece is great for that. So, I'll show you guys what I found. And everything was 50% off. So, I found this one that I thought was cute, little like school village scene, some bears.
Was a picture of Christmas at Rockefeller Center and it is missing a piece and they noted which one it is.
So, I was like, "Oh, that's fine. No big deal." This one I thought was really pretty. It's brand new and it's of this image. It's a thousand piece. So, I'll save this one for like the future. But, I thought that was a really pretty scene.
And then I found this adorable cabbage leaf uh mug that was really big and I thought that was adorable. So, got that. I found this book, Beyond Summer. I love thrifting books that are around certain seasons cuz they're really fun to read, you know, in that season. And then I found this for Roy. He loves hats, you guys.
And this was like, I think a dollar, maybe 50 cents, I don't know. So, he loves this. I also got each of the other kids a toy. Um, the boys each got like a toy car and then Ivy got a little play pink phone. So, that is what I picked up. So, I am actually going to probably organize the puzzles and stuff, but this little guy needs to go to sleep. So, I'm probably going to walk around and see if I can get him to sleep.
There you go.
Here is the closet that we keep all of the coats, the winter coats, and our games and puzzles in. Um, and we also keep the vacuum in here. So, [sighs] this is kind of what I'm wanting to organize.
I don't need to go through coats or anything. I kind of already done that.
Well, actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I probably should do that cuz I do see a few that we need to get rid of. Um, so maybe [snorts] we'll just declutter this together and organize it.
Okay, hopefully this is enough light, you guys. I don't I don't know. Let me see. Okay, I think this might work.
Usually I lay him down to nap, but he's kind of he's teething, so he's a little clean. Okay, so we have coats in here and a lot of these should work.
This one Ivy outgrew and I did wash it.
So I think I'll take this one to Once Upon a Child.
It is pink so I can't really pass it down. So I think I'll see if I can consign it or something. I don't know.
We'll see. But it is clean. So, and I think I think this one it's extra small. I don't know. Make it Roy.
Okay.
I think we'll let this one go.
Snow coat. No suits.
There's that.
Now, just going to take the games out.
>> [music] >> All right, I just put all the little card decks and everything in here. And I'm just going to put it right here. And I think that that's good. It's not like perfect up here, but it looks so much better.
And I'm going to put that basket of gloves and stuff in a different closet.
Um, that way it's just games and puzzles that are up here. So, I really like that. I think that looks good and we'll keep it at that. So, I wanted to show you guys something that I've actually changed up in our house now that James is napping in our room. We have like a three-bedroom house and five kids. So, James sleeps and naps in our room. And so I can't have access to our like family dresser that we had. The boys have always had a dresser in their room, but things were just getting really out of hand. So I took some inspiration from Laura from our oily house. She's very minimal and organized with her kids clothing, specifically like her younger boys and younger kids. And she keeps everything so simple and like all in one area. And I was like, "Okay, if that's working for her, she's minimal like I am. I think I could try this out and see." So, we have two dressers in our dining room. But the thing is, they don't really look like just a basic dresser sitting in your dining room. It looks, you know, it looks good. So, this has been working because I can actually do laundry and put clothes away and not have to worry about waking a baby or have like baskets sitting around. And then also, I have little kids that are constantly needing to change their clothes if they have been muddy outside or had an accident. This has just worked so much better and I can just take the basket of clothes, put them away in each area in the dining room, and it's been working great. So, I'm going to show you guys my little system I've been doing.
So, up here is Roy's pull-ups and James diapers. We have wipes, lotion, baby powder. So, this is like the diaper drawer, and it works out really, really good. This drawer is Ivy. So, she's got her dresses, jammies, underwear. So, this is her drawer only. And then this is Royy's drawer. I need to put some laundry away. And then down here is James. So, he also has some clothes and diapers in our room as well, but like stuff he wears every day um will go in here. And like I said, I need to put laundry away. So, those are the three little's dresser. And that works really good. And then over here, we ended up moving the desk to the boys' room, and they absolutely love it. So over here is theirs and it looks really good. So I can put the globe up here. We have school books that we're using, family worship stuff. So that stays up there.
This is like their drawer. They put their special stuff in. And then they each have two drawers. So that's our system.
And so there's one here and then one over there. And it actually looks really good. I actually really like it. So yeah, thought I'd share. I just did the dishes. So those are clean. Uh the pork is going in the crock pot. Just pulled out all the stuff for lunch. Uh we're just going to do hot dogs and chips.
Call it good. And I will say I keep buying these, you guys. These are so good. My family loves these. So been a really big hit. Also, we have some cookies. So after lunch, everyone can have a cookie. I went to Bronms last night. Um, and we bought ice cream and cookies and cinnamon rolls and growing up their cookies were so good, but they are just not the same anymore.
Uh, they used to be so soft. I mean, some of these are really soft, but [snorts] I don't know. The chocolate peanut butter used to be good, and it does say new recipe. That's probably why I didn't like it. Anyway, some of their stuff is good. Some of it it's not as good as it used to be. But we have those from last night. And I do have hot dogs going on the stove top. So, and then James had a little nap in the carrier.
Yeah.
So, he's sitting here playing.
And I did put away a load of laundry and the kids drawers. And then I have some of our stuff that I need to put away.
And I need to switch over a load of laundry. So, it's kind of what I've gotten done. The dishes kind of took up a lot of time.
But that's done and everyone is going to head inside and we're going to have lunch.
[music] >> [music] [music] >> Hello.
Hello.
I just wrapped up making the kleslaw for the pork bowls. I also made the dessert earlier today. So, the dessert has been sitting in the fridge. It looks so yummy. And what else have we been doing?
Made coffee together. Taylor's chopping wood right now. Um the baby's napped and put a little laundry away. It looks like it's going to rain. I think it's supposed to rain tomorrow, so it's pretty cloudy outside. But I'm going to go ahead and cut my three older boys hair. It really needs to be cut so badly. So, I'm going to do that. And dinner should be ready in about an hour.
It is 4:20 right now. So, should be ready. The pork should be ready in an hour. I need to make some rice to go along with it. I think it's going to be so yummy. I'm so excited. So, I'm going to go get the clippers. So, I've been charging them and we'll cut the boys hair.
La.
around.
Oh.
Uh-huh.
Uh-huh.
Perfect.
La.
Hello.
Oh.
Hello.
Hello.
I see.
Hi.
Right there.
Well guys, thank you guys so much for watching this video and coming along with me throughout my day. We enjoyed a delicious dinner. Everyone devoured it and the rain has finally stopped. It's beautiful outside. Taylor just bathed the littles. We're getting ready to get them in bed. Just put James to bed. The boys are out here playing. So, thank you guys so much for watching and I'll see you next time. Bye.
