In Mexican communities like Mexicali, water infrastructure challenges include intermittent pipas (water tanker trucks) that deliver water to tinacos (roof-mounted storage tanks), with hot climates making tinacos less popular due to mold concerns; communities without official sewer systems often rely on private individuals to unclog pipes using PVC snakes, while those with septic tanks face regular cleaning costs of approximately 500 pesos per service, highlighting the disparity between urban and rural water management systems.

WATER ISSUES IN MEXICO: It’s Hard to Believe How They Unclog the Sewer System! 🇲🇽Added:
Hello guys. That is the pipa. They actually They stop at every house, not every house, every house that has a tinaco.
They do stop at every house that has a tinaco and provide every house with drinking water. Now, usually how it works, how I have done it or attempt to do it is basically you talk to them.
They provide you a tinaco. They might be Let me show you.
They might be this size or even bigger.
That's depending on what they have available and they come and install it in your house. And from right there, whenever you don't have water, as you can tell right there it has like half is half full or half empty.
But they provide you with water and whenever they do their rounds, I I'm pretty sure they do it like weekly or however they do it, right? They basically stop by to see if you need water.
Now, for what I know at least in this street where I live, I'm living, I'm where we have our house this neighbors right here by next to us have a tinaco and then the guy in where the pipa was stop.
That's the only people that have a tinaco right here.
I was thinking about getting one at one point because it's more convenient, right?
We don't have to go to the store and that's one of those things that we have to go once a week to the store to actually uh fill five different jugs of water and then bring them back. Now, if it's stationed right here and they and they actually come to you and and fill up the the tinaco with water, I mean, it's convenient, right? But um first of all, I was going to do it because I thought I was going to save some money, but no, it's actually the same price.
You're going to pay uh the same price you're paying per gallon the same price that you're paying on a the store. Same, same you don't got no benefits from it.
Right? And the big thing the big reason why I didn't do it is because you have to understand we live in in Mexicali, which is is hot.
Hot weather, so the heat plastic and water does not they they don't work.
I mean, I'm assuming it's going to create some type of mold. Right? So, that's why those tinacos right here they're might not be as popular as they are in in southern Mexico. And that is the main reason I'm assuming because of the heat, right? Uh as you can see like the one I showed you just uh not long ago it's on top of the roof, right? So, the sun is just hitting it and um that's uh that's why I didn't get one. Now, another thing now talking about water, what about the solar system right here, right? Now, let me explain something to you guys.
Right here in Mexicali in where I live in Mexicali, right? It is divided in certain divisions, which is called ejidos, right? The little pueblos, ejidos, however you want to call it.
And not all of them have a solar system.
Right?
We are lucky enough that uh back in '93 I believe, back in '93 um my family and other residents of here they decided to put their own solar system, which the piping is not the correct one. It has to be I think it has to be a bigger one.
But they figured it out.
They they hooked it up. They opened uh they they opened um the streets. They put the they they laid the pipe down and covered it, right? And every house got connected to it. Every house got connected to it.
Now, whenever we have any issues that has to do with the the clogged uh sewer system, the water company would not come over here and and help us with that.
They would not help us with that because I don't know, at least the vibes that I got, it's like they're kind of butt hurt, you know? Because one time I I was uh dealing with that stuff, and I got a a a cousin, right? I got a cousin that actually is like a a high-ranking person that works for the water, right?
And I was like, "Hey, man, can you send your your people over here so they can do When there's anything that has to do with the the water issue, like he'll send everybody ASAP, right?"
But when it came down to that, I was like, "Hey, man, just uh send your people so I got I'm having issues with that my uh sewer sewer system, right?
It's clogged up." And he was like, "No, they can't go over there." And I was like, "Hold on.
So, how come I see those guys over here like now or they they all lose their job? If they get caught, like if you were to tell me who was it or stuff like that, like they would lose their job, you know?" And I was like, "Oh, man, so the only way that sometimes they do come is basically somebody has to pay them under the table, and it has to be like the like a real quick job, you know? So, usually um how they do it right here, except this street. I don't know why they don't do it on this street, but on the other streets on the other streets, they they'll take all the How do you say that? The barreras? That is basically they give you access to the to the pipes under the ground, and they have it open, so the thing just comes through, uh cleans everything, and bounces, like super quick, and they pay them I don't know how much money, right? Uh again, I have never seen them on my street, and that's one issue that we did have when we're coming over here. Like the pipes used to get clogged and stuff like that.
And as a matter of fact, you have like couple individuals that live right here that they'll that'll be their like their side jobs, you know? Like okay, whenever your your sewer is clogged, they'll they'll go over there and trying to unclog it. But let me show you how they actually unclog this because you're going to be like, "What?"
Because you have to understand, not everybody has money enough not everybody's willing to invest in this um in a snake or anything to unclog the sewer, man. But as a matter of fact, that guy I I had to uh buy some PVC.
But let me show you. Here it is.
So this PVC is actually used to unclog the sewer system.
And that's what they put the side they do how they used to do it when I came over here.
For I'm I'm assuming for years it's been working, and that's how they unclog all the streets. Like let's say just one person is having issues, like that person will go over there trying to unclog the the what's it called? The sewer system.
And then eventually um they'll pay them. They they'll charge you like maybe like 300 pesos, 500 pesos, something like that. You know?
And for some people might be a lot because if you want to get I think the water company will charge you thousands thousands just to so they can go through your house. But again, they're not supposed to be coming over here and doing that stuff, right? Now, when I came over here and I was running to those issues, um I was um What was it? You might wonder, "Hey, why the Donut Wheel has a towel a towel right there?" It's because that that what's it called?
The door handle is broken.
And if I put the window all the way up, it's not going to open. I don't know how I'm going to get in. The only way to get in is through the through the back and stuff like that. But, I did end up buying like a like a one of those snakes and stuff like that that clean the sewer system through our water pressure. And you know, it just it it was game changer, right? So, that's what we use around here whenever we have any sewer problems. That's what I use and stuff like that, and it's been working, you know, it's been working. And it just a way to try to get over you know, that that that hassle of getting that thing done, clean the sewer and stuff like that because we run with that issue a lot. We run with that issue a lot because the when they whenever they lay the the the pipes, they were not the size the recommended size, you know?
Whenever they laid that pipe down, they were not the recommended size, but they still do it, right? Um we we were one of the ejidos who had sewer system before other ejidos. Right now, what I can tell you, like the main the biggest town has a sewer system.
And other than that, I don't think no other uh towns except us have a sewer system. Everything has to do with the septic tank. Except that one town. I remember making videos in where they were fixing the sewer system after 30 years, finally they got a uh sewer system. But, other than that, no other ejidos pueblos have sewer system. Everything has to be a septic tank. And usually a uh a pipa one of those water tankers will come in and clean your uh your su- su- suck, you know, the the water out of your uh septic tank, and they charge you 500 pesos for it. And some uh septic tanks, they're small to the point that they have to go every week. Imagine every week. So, you're spending like 2,000 pesos just in in regular water. So, what a lot of people do is just this, man. Um Again, other people don't even have a What's it called? A a bathroom that's actually in the house. They have a a a bathroom outside the house. They basically all they do is just dig a hole and they make something out of wood and you go over there and do your thing.
But, usually for those who might have a septic tank when they run the the washer the the whole system that being connected to a some type of tubing and and being drained to the septic tank, they actually drain it like in the open on the dirt.
Because, I mean, if that was the case, imagine how many water I mean, how much water would that thing have? And that's one of those things that I know that I have family members that have uh the septic tank and that's what they do.
They usually they run the when they run the washer, they just throw the the hose and that thing just leaks water on on the road.
Or usually that what they do, they just water down their trees or their I don't know, their grass with it.
So, that's one of the uh struggles that we do have right here in Mexico, at least where I I I am, right? And again, with the with the what's it called? Tinacos.
might be more of a of the street uh of Southern Mexico. You know what I mean?
Also, you have seen videos where people talk about the water pressure and stuff like that. Right here where I am, at least thankfully we don't suffer that issue with the water pressure. Uh our water pressure is pretty good to the point in where sometimes it comes uh there's too much pressure to the point where sometimes the the the tuberia, the tubing uh will come apart, you know? Because the angles they put and stuff like that, you know? So, um thankfully we don't have that issue like other parts of Mexico. And you know, I mean, you just trying to get along, trying to make it and so far it's working all right, you know, all right.
It's of course it's it's a big change from the US because you cannot do certain things, right? But other than that everything's good so far. So hopefully you enjoyed this video.
