This video reviews two classic 1970s romantic comedies: 'Foul Play' (1978) starring Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase, which combines a preposterous assassination plot with romantic comedy elements, and 'The Goodbye Girl' (1977) featuring Richard Dreyfuss's Academy Award-winning performance as an eccentric interior decorator, demonstrating how romantic comedies of this era successfully blended humor, romance, and engaging character dynamics to create memorable cinematic experiences.

"'THE QUICK FLICK CRITIC' Reviews & Interviews": 2 '70s Rom-Coms: "FOUL PLAY" + "THE GOODBYE GIRL"!!
Added:Stay tuned after this first review for a second review right after.
Hello and welcome to the Quickflake Critic reviews and interviews. I'm your host, John Smith Dad, and these are my takes on films, both new and not so, spanning a wide range of genres and tastes, plus conversations with some of the coolest people in indie entertainment. Now, let us rock with this one, shall we? Foul Play, 1978, when romcom was the bomb. Goldiehan at her absolute most radiantly adorable.
Chevy Chase at the peak of his smarmy silliness. Put them together in a kooky crime thriller involving a preposterous plot to assassinate the pope and you have a rip roar and rollicking romcom and foul play is just so damn hard not to fall for. The late great comic actor Dudley Moore has a hilarious albeit creeped out cameo with Han. The title song, Ready to Take a Chance Again, played over a gorgeous aerial shot of a classic car driving along the Northern California coast at twilight, is Barry Manalo and his pop kuner best. And the sight and sound of Chase answering the telephone, yellow is just one example of a usually innocuous moment unusually infused with funny. It just is. I'm your host, John Smithad, and these are my takes on films, both new and not so, spanning a wide range of genres and tastes, plus conversations with some of the coolest people in indie entertainment. Now, let us rock with this one, shall we? The Goodbye Girl, 1977 romcom at its most respplendant. Neil Simons the goodbye girl probably would not have stood much of a chance without the incomparable and richlyd deserved Academy Award performance of Richard Drifus. His frenetic, hilarious, touching and charming portrayal of the eccentric and nomadic on top of abundantly gifted actor Elliot Garfield is one of the true treasures in motion picture history. He simply steals the show. Still, Marsha Mason as his romantic foil and initially reluctant roommate and Quinn Cummings as her single mom character's precociously smartass young daughter each do a yoerson's job keeping pace with the juggernaut of Drifus's radiantly dazzling work. Witnessing Drifus turn the esteemed Shakespearean stage role of Richard III into England's first badly dressed interior decorator is but one of many moments of inspired hilarity in The Goodbye Girl that is bound to render you absolutely helpless with laughter just as it always will me.
