Dada Morero: Inner-City Law Enforcement Operations Are Here to Stay

[00:00:00]Good morning residents of Johannesburg.

[00:00:03]This morning we are here with all the departments of the city.

[00:00:08]We have a clear agenda and program to enforce the bylaws.

[00:00:13]We are dealing with all our bylaws, enforcement of the bylaws, removal of illegal structures in the city, whether it's trading structures, advertising structures.

[00:00:25]We are doing stop and search, dealing with criminality.

[00:00:30]We are dealing with all issues that needs to be addressed as part of our bylaw enforcement and crime prevention.

[00:00:37]So, the city is here and this is a permanent feature that residents of Johannesburg must now expect to see happening in Johannesburg. Our wish is to ensure that we bring law and order in the city and we ensure safety for all our residents. Early as last night, we were in court taken by the owners or the alleged owners of the building to stop demolitions and other things. We did manage to engage with the judge last night where he asked us to give an undertaking that we will not demolish.

[00:01:15]However, the other part of our work, cutting and other things, the stoppage of the waters, we can't do that. So, we are anticipating, not even anticipating, we had agreed with the judge that we will be in court at 10. Our expectation is that we will argue the matter. Where possible, we will ask for inspection in local for the judge to come and observe for himself what is transpiring in this building. But, hopefully, we will get the court order to restore law and order in the building and around the precinct.
