Parathyroid hormone (PTH), released from the four rice-sized parathyroid glands embedded in the posterior of the thyroid, increases blood calcium levels by stimulating vitamin D activation for intestinal calcium absorption and activating osteoclasts to resorb bone and release stored calcium; this contrasts with calcitonin, which decreases blood calcium levels by stimulating osteoblasts to deposit calcium in bone.

Question of the week!Added:
And the answer is B. Its job is to increase blood calcium levels. So, a parathyroid hormone is released from the parathyroid glands, which are four literally rice-sized glands embedded in the posterior of the thyroid, and it is going to be stimulated to release more of that hormone whenever our calcium levels dip low.
Whenever our blood calcium levels dip below the homeostasis range for our blood calcium. And its job is to help do all the things to increase our blood calcium levels back to homeostasis. So, one of the things that it's going to do is that it is going to um stimulate the the activation of vitamin D because vitamin D plays a huge role in allowing for our small intestines to absorb all of the calcium from the foods that we eat. Um and it's also going to stimulate our osteoclasts. So, remember our osteoclasts are the bone cells whose job is to crush or resorb bone. And whenever we break down the bone matrix, it's going to release the stored calcium in the bone, and that is going to help to raise the blood calcium levels.
Option D says to stimulate calcitonin release. Calcitonin does kind of the opposite of what parathyroid hormone does. Calcitonin is released from the thyroid gland whenever our blood calcium levels are way too high. So, its job will be to stimulate the osteoblasts to take that excess calcium from the bloodstream and deposit it in bone and thereby decrease or lower blood calcium levels, which is option A. So, the best option here again is option B. The whole job of parathyroid hormone is to increase blood calcium levels.
