In 1870, French researcher Charles Rohault de Fleury studied every known fragment. His conclusion shocked historians. The total volume of all surviving pieces was far smaller than a real cross would have been. So, the relic wasn't fake by quantity, but one question still remains. Do any fragments actually come from 1st century Jerusalem? Carbon dating has existed since 1949. The Vatican has never submitted a single fragment for testing.
