The criminal justice system involves multiple stages including police investigation, formal charges, court trials, and sentencing. In this case, police responded to a disturbance call, discovered two elderly victims with trauma, and issued a Canada-wide warrant for the accused. The court process involves presenting evidence, considering witness testimony, and determining guilt based on the evidence. The judge's decision considers factors such as the nature of the offense, the defendant's age, and the circumstances of the crime. The system also includes mechanisms for charge dismissal when evidence is insufficient, and the final outcome may include revocation of honors like the Order of Canada.

Couple identified in double murder, warrant issued for son | CP24 Live at Five for June 19, 2026
Added:We are live outside the poor credit home of a murdered elderly couple. Police [music] looking for their 46-year-old son.
>> 93-year-old billionaire businessman Frank Stronick found guilty of sexual assault and indecent [music] assault.
>> And a day after the historic World Cup win, it is back to work today for Canada's men's team.
>> This is Live at 5.
Hi everybody, I'm Liz West.
>> I'm Bari Savage. Welcome to Live at 5.
The search continues this hour for a 46-year-old Missaga man wanted in the double murder of his elderly parents.
Police warning the public that Jordan Sanguin is considered armed and dangerous. Let's go live to CP24's crime analyst Steve Ryan outside the couple's poor credit home. Steve.
Bari and Liz, this happened on Brierwood Avenue in Port Credit. It's just north of Lakeshore. Police are alleging that this man that Bari you just mentioned, this 46-y old man is now wanted on two counts of first-degree murder.
Typically, when the police lay a first-degree murder charge, it certainly suggests that there was some planning and deliberation. that started for the police investigators last night at 7 p.m. they responded to a home on Brierwood Avenue regarding a disturbance. And once on scene, they discovered a man and a woman both in their 70s, husband and wife, uh the mother and father of this accused. He's an accused now because he has been formally charged. They just can't find him at this point in time. So, they found the mom and the dad, both in their 70s with obvious signs of trauma. Both were rushed to a local hospital where both succumb to their injuries. So, the investigators have been working throughout the day trying to locate this uh accused and there's been a Canadawide warrant issued for his arrest. We're showing you a picture of him right now.
Police consider him armed and dangerous.
Now, important to note that police did say that uh this was an isolated incident and that there was no firearm used. So, when the police say he was armed and dangerous, they certainly aren't referring to a firearm as far as as I can tell. And they are encouraging this man to obtain legal counsel and then surrender to a police station. Here is local reaction that we got earlier today. Let's listen.
I >> wouldn't say surprised, I'd say shocked.
Absolutely shocked that something like this would happen. Uh like I said, it's a quiet neighborhood. Um it's it's an old neighborhood. Newer families, younger families are moving in slowly.
So, there's a transition happening. But if the family's been there for a while and it's an older family, it's they've been there for a while. And uh I mean, I see people walking up and down the streets. If I'm outside having a breath of fresh air, I'm talking to them. Hi, how's it going? We talk, chitchat.
stuff like that. So, yeah, it's a little unnerving the fact that it's a domestic.
>> It was pretty intense because you don't know what's coming out of it and you're just kind of waiting to see what happened. So, I think it was a little intense especially I looked on the on the on the internet to see what happened. And it said this and I was like, "Wow." Like that's crazy like for this to happen in this area. It's an upcoming city also and people from years have been living here. So, it's sad to see.
>> Now, we did speak with a uh local resident off camera a couple hours ago, and that person alleges that at 6:30 last night, they saw the son pull up in front of the house in a pickup truck.
They saw the son have some sort of interaction with the father outside of the home. There was an assault that occurred outside of the home. Then they saw the man, the son, go into the home.
He was in there for about 15 minutes according to this eyewitness. And then roughly quarter to seven, the son exited the home and then left in a vehicle.
Again, if you know this man, you know where he's at or you think you've seen him, give police a call. You can remain anonymous as well and the police will follow up with every lead. Let's send it back to you guys.
>> Okay, live in Port Credit CP24's crime analyst Steve Ryan.
>> And billionaire businessman Frank Stronic accused of sexually assaulting several women decades ago, has been found guilty of sexual assault and indecent assault. NCP24's Beatric Fasman has reaction from the University Avenue courthouse. Beatatric >> Bari Liz, good evening. It was a very quick court appearance. First thing this morning, we gathered at 9:00 inside one of these courtrooms at 361 University.
And by 9:15, we already knew Justice Anne Malloyy's verdict. She's one of the most respected jurists in this entire country. And she started by saying she wasn't going to waste anyone's time. She was going to get right to the point and said immediately she'd be finding Mr. Stronic, billionaire businessman. now 93 years old, guilty of two charges. The first being sexual assault, the second being indecent assault. And we heard from Frank Stronic's criminal defense lawyer, Leora Shemish, outside of the courthouse uh this later later in the morning as well where she uh said that she felt uh pleased with Justice Malloyy's decision uh saying that is her understanding her client was found guilty on the least serious of all of the criminal charges that he was actually facing. And here's more from criminal defense lawyer Laura Shemeish.
>> As I understand it, Mr. Stronic has been found guilty on the least serious offenses um for two complainants who um uh were not exposed in any way. He wasn't exposed. They weren't exposed.
And what I mean by exposed is no one had their clothes off. Um, and I'm not minimizing obviously the count of of sexual assault, but if you take the time to read her honors decision very carefully, she has certainly used the appropriate language to describe um what I would call um a very minor uh offense for which Mr. Stronic has been found guilty of.
Justice and Malloy described this as a long and emotionally charged trial. Uh she considered testimony from three complainants in making her final verdict. Let's be clear, at the onset of this trial back in February, Frank Stronic was facing 12 charges uh with seven complainants uh set to testify and provide their information. But as the uh you know arguments unraveled, it was clear to Justice Malloy that some of them uh were would not yield a good prospect of conviction. So those charges uh were dismissed. As of today, there were three complaintants whose uh testimony and information she was considering and she found that one of the three complainants uh had too many irregularities in her testimony and found Mr. Stronic not guilty in relation to that complainant. The two other women though, both connected to Rooney's, a restaurant and bar that was owned by Frank Stronick. One of them, a former employee, saying she wanted to meet with Stronic after being fired from her job.
He invited her back to his Harbor Front condo where she testified that he groped her and that's where the sexual assault conviction from Justice Malloy came from in relation to that complainant. The other one was a young woman, mid to late 20s back in 1977, was a regular at Rooney. said she had dinner with Stronic, went back to his apartment or condo, and that's where she alleged that he put her over the chair uh of of a cot uh and raped her violently. She testified the charge of attempted rape was withdrawn from the crown and he was facing indecent assault and that's ultimately the charge that he was convicted of. I asked Kim Scoffield, criminal defense lawyer, about sentencing and what happens next.
on the whole spectrum of what a sexual assault could be. Certainly on the less serious uh spectrum. Uh but I'm sure the crowd is going to say uh very serious nevertheless uh especially in light of some of the aggravating factors which is uh the uh position of of somewhat a position of trust. So uh an older individual, someone who is uh uh certainly um uh subject to to influence.
I I I would say.
>> And so these cases dating back to the 70s and 80s, the women at the time in their mid to late 20s. Frank Stronach about 30 years, their senior. Today he is 93 and come September 17th, he'll be back here at 361 University for sentencing. We'll have to wait and see how his age plays a factor in that sentencing. And to wrap up here, May 2027, next year, he'll face a separate trial in New Market to answer to some quite similar charges to the ones he was facing here in our city. Back to you, >> Ray. Thank you for that. Live on University Avenue, CP24's Beatric Feman.
And the man accused of fatally shooting a Toronto ETF officer last week has now been formally charged with murder.
Constable Mark Pinizado was shot dead last Thursday while taking part in a warrant execution. 19-year-old Nicholas Bennett was shot by police and has been in hospital ever since. He appeared in court by video link from his hospital bed earlier today to be charged with firstdegree murder in Pinazado's death.
He's another court appearance on Monday.
And meanwhile, a funeral for the fallen officer will be held Wednesday. Penazado leaves behind his wife and twin children.
>> Okay, right now it's 5:09. Let's get a check on the roads at CP24's traffic specialist Awa and Tia Yaba. Good evening, Ash.
>> Oh, good evening. Bari endless we are dealing with quite the busy busy afternoon commute sprinkled in the mix a couple of problems. So we'll start with these issues happening on the westbound lanes of the 401. This is Indie Express.
As you make your way through Waron collision does have the right lane block. There were trucks involved.
They're off to the side but again if you're making your way through the area traffic is very slow from before Macauan. Then on the eastbound side we are dealing with a collision eastbound 41 in the collectors through Macauan right lane block. But the good news this one not really impacting your drive. Don Valley Parkway definitely busier now as you make your way from approaching Don Mills up to the 401. Still quite slow as well on the gardener westbound as you exit the downtown core, but no new issues. Everything quickly opens up once you pass Duffren. On city streets, a brand new collision on Finch and uh Driftwood getting word it could be involving a pedestrian as well. Travels do take you towards the 409 right at Airport Road. Northbound Airport Road blocked at 409 and that is for a collision involving a motorcycle.
This CP24 traffic report is brought to you by 407 ETR. Enjoy the journey with a stress-free commute.
>> Sending over now to Zara Shirazi at the TTC Transit Control Center. Good afternoon, Zara. Happy Friday. Checking in to see if there are any issues impacting TTC and the commute.
>> Good afternoon, Aua. Happy Friday. We do have a bit of a delay on line six right now. So, there is no train service between Finch West and North Finch Oakdale due to a medical emergency at Driftwood. Um, instead, shuttle buses are running along that portion of the line. Taking a look at our surface routes, we have a couple buses on diversion right now. So, the 92 Woodbine South is diverting around Woodbine and Mendle for police activity. The 101 Downs View Park is diverting around the Page and Keel for construction. And the 952 Lawrence West Express is diverting around airport and jet liner for a collision. Um, and FIFA FanFest is on again tonight. So, if you're heading there, take the 509 Harbor Front or 511 Baurst because we've got extra service running on both of those for the World Cup. For more information, check out our uh our service changes on tdc.ca and follow at TDC notices on X for real-time updates. That's it from control. Back to the newsroom.
>> All right, senior communications advisors are Sherzi. Thanks for the update. Right now it's 5'11 22 degrees feeling more like 23. This is live at 5.
>> And here's a live look at Nathan Phillips Square. That's where World Cup festivities are underway yet again.
We'll have the latest on the aftermath of Canada's historic win. That's coming up.
A day after their historic World Cup win, it was back to work today for Canada's men's team. The club picked up their first ever World Cup win and World Cup shutout as they pounded Qar 6-nil.
The win all but secures Canada will move into the knockout stage. And there's one more game for Canada in group play also in Vancouver and that is Wednesday.
And Canada's head coach says injured player Ismael Kone is doing well as can be expected.
>> Yeah, he had a tip fib fracture. Um but they did the surgery last night. um similar to the Tjan and Moyes surgery and um the doctor said it went perfectly and and Moyes has already been up this morning and I mean not Moyes, Ismail's already been up this morning and and um >> and by up you mean he's been walking this morning or >> No, no, just up in his bed and then he sent a video message to the guys. So um and he was in good spirits >> and Canada's goalkeeper says his team made it easy for him to get the historic shut out. I mean the guys did a a great job where we uh we we did what the match plan was was was required you know uh step on the gas take our opportunity um kill the game when we have to get the first get the second and just after that just get into our rhythm and the team was very fluid. Obviously, the two red cards made more space for us on the field, but um the mission for us was to to get it this size of win uh which we did.
>> And we spoke to one soccer Gareth Wheeler about Canada's World Cup performance so far.
>> Just the mentality of this group, whether it's playing without Alfonso Davies, they haven't played with Alfonso Davies for the last 18 months. There's a next man up mentality. So whether it's Nathan Celiba, whether it's Brmpton's own Jonathan Aorio, there's going to be other players that are going to be galvanized to take that next step. The motivation's there playing in a home World Cup and having all kinds of potential and some expectations now in fairness, but this just adds a little bit extra to the equation when they face adversity during the tournament in such a dramatic way. So I think it can actually be a galvanizing force for this team.
All right, there's a lot going on in the city today for the FIFA World Cup, including watch parties and Unity Drumf Fest. For more, let's go live to CP24's Melissa Dugen who's at Nathan Phillips Square. So Melissa is not only our intrepid reporter, but our food critic.
Melissa, >> and and now it's all about dancing, Bari. We are having a blast here at Nathan Phillips Square. This is the Unity Drum Fest that's combining music, culture, and soccer as well. Capri, you've got the moves. TELL ME WHY YOU'RE OUT here celebrating today.
>> I am here. I'm going from square to square and enjoying everything that the city is offering right now.
>> You're a perfect person to talk to because this event is like the intersection of culture and soccer and you're taking advantage of both.
>> I I really am. You're getting food, you're getting music, and the just like you said, the intersection is such a beautiful thing right now and it's here in our country. And I actually had the privilege of performing at Canada Soccer House yesterday ahead of the game and it was an amazing game yesterday. So, it's like music as an artist myself coming in enjoying and witnessing sports, dancers, the drums, everything.
>> Now, we're watching a great show on STAGE RIGHT NOW. TELL ME WHAT it's like as a performer to be performing in front of a soccer crowd. Oh, the energy is incredible. They get it and they're so used to chance, right? Let's go, baby.
You bet up and leave and they just they reciprocate and you feel that energy and it was it was an awesome experience being back on the stage.
>> You're telling me that you're a soccer fan, too. Who are you cheering for?
>> My my team is the SOA Warriors. They haven't been a part of FIFA for a minute. Trinidad and Tobago. So Warriors number one in my heart.
>> Oh, that's awesome. So, if you have do you have any advice for anyone who's like taking in the energy of World Cup in the city right now?
>> Yeah. Um, give yourself some time to get where you need to get to and try all the different spaces [music] from uh Sancopa Square to here to Canada Soccer House to the official FIFA fan festival.
Everything is happening in the community or just go into a little uh your local stop and and hang out with the locals.
>> I would say have a blast, but I think you're already doing that.
>> I am. Hey, hey, hey.
>> So, listen, this is just a sample of the party going on here at Nathan Phillips Square continuing throughout the night.
They're going to be showing the show the the matches on the big screen as well.
We just saw the match between the USA and Australia wrap up. That one going to the US 2-nil. More games coming up here tonight and more of this action by the way, Vicari, continuing through tomorrow. So, yeah, we got the food, we got the soccer, we got the dance. Okay, bringing us all the action live from Nathan Philip Square, CP24's Melissa [music] Doug.
>> Once again, >> and officials say the city is keeping up with transit demands during FIFA World Cup matches at Toronto Stadium. The TTC says roots serving the stadium and FanFest saw a 30% increase on June 12th.
That's the first match that Toronto hosted. Meanwhile, the 509 Harbor Front Street car saw nearly triple the number of boardings compared to a regular Friday. and officials say police and transit agencies are monitoring the crowds in real time and adjusting service in response.
>> Overall results are encouraging. It's also important to keep in mind that all of these results come uh in the face of increased demand on our network associated with the people going to the events and visitors in our city. We will continue to monitor, learn, and make adjustments after every match to help us throughout the tournament. This approach is also how we're managing a busy summer across the city. From FIFA matches to local activations like the church street pedestrianization that is beginning today. They are all planned and coordinated as part of an effort to keep Toronto moving. We have more to go, including another match tomorrow, but early signs show that the city is prepared and planned ahead. And as a result, we're keeping everyone moving.
A good reminder, we're we're not even through the second half of the match here with only two matches down, but we're seeing some really encouraging signs. And so, just want to provide a bit of an update. And maybe I'll start with our ridership and what we're seeing there. We are seeing an uptick on ridership, which is great. Um, we're on the FIFA World Cup routes like the 509 that you just saw go by and the 511 that just arrived. We're experiencing over 30% increase on those routes on those World Cup routes. So really encouraging that people are taking the TTC to get to FanFest and Toronto Stadium. So really encouraging there.
This is a success story to date. We are seeing that our service plan is adequate is moving the ridership across the region that was expected to be seen.
Game day um service to and from Exhibition Stadium has been very successful. We've been seeing on average for the games close to 20 to 25,000 riders just using Exhibition Stadium. Uh again, I I think I need to reiterate just as as my colleagues did, this is really really as a part and a tribute to the partnerships that we have with the city of Toronto, of course, the TTC, the Toronto Police Service, which have been outstanding with metering the crowds to be able to help with the outbound of the games.
And according to the TTC, customer satisfaction among regular commuters and those visiting the city. Well, that's sitting at about 90% after the first match.
>> Right now, it's 521 22 degrees. This is live at 5.
>> And up ahead, a big trade for the Leafs.
The Blue and White have acquired defenseman Darren Radish. That's from Tampa Bay Lightning. We'll have more details on that deal coming up.
Well, the Leaves have made a major trade, acquiring defenseman Darren Radish from the Lightning. The 30-year-olds coming off a career best season, putting up 70 points in 73 games. The Leafs signed Radish to an 8-year contract extension after completing the deal, which saw them send a fifthround draft pick to Tampa. Well, this is the second trade made this week by the Leafs. On Tuesday, Toronto acquired goalender Samuel Ersen and defenseman Emil Andre from the Flyers for Joseph Wall and Simon Benois.
>> And Premier Ford is holding his annual barbecue today. Ford Fest runs >> is taking place today in Scarboro.
That's right, folks. Ford Fest is happening today.
>> Fordfest runs from 5 to 9:00 p.m. at Thompson Memorial Park. That's near Brimley and Lawrence. The premier says the free event, which has previously been held at the Ford family backyard in Atobbico, will feature hot dogs and burgers, as well as giveaways for the first 500 guests and carnival rides for the kids. Well, get ready to hear the sounds of jazz all over the city starting today.
The Toronto Jazz Festival kicks off today in Yorkville in honor of Black Music Month. The 10-day festival kicks off this morning with a jazz meets hip hop panel. I was at the pilot. It runs through April or rather the [music] 28th of the month at a number of venues around Toronto. TB24 breakfast. Bill Coulter had a chance to speak with some of the artists and organizers of the big event.
>> Who inspires me continues to be my mentor. His past now, but um he goes by the name Humela. He was my teacher when I was a little boy. and uh you know the the way he played and how masterfully he played just carried you know made me happy.
>> So the the love of music I mean it it's something that's hard to describe right you just you feel something u but certain things speak to you probably more than others. What are some of the influences that you put in the music you write?
>> Ah everything afro I guess they're really Africa to the bone. So everything African related, Latin related uh and also Eastern European related. I think I chase the sound of the trumpet in every culture.
>> It is celebrating what jazz is today, where it's come from, and where it might be going into the future. And the other thing is just celebrating jazz in this city in particular. We have an incredible jazz scene in the city all year round. So for the opportunity to book what jazz sounds like in the city from emerging artists to mid-career to established, it's really exciting to just put a lineup such an incredibly diverse lineup together. >> The latest on the search for an armed and dangerous murder suspect in Missaga.
That's coming up.
Double murder in Missaga. An elderly [music] couple is dead after officers respond to their poor credit home for reports of an assault. Police are searching for their son who they say is armed and dangerous. [music] >> 93-year-old billionaire businessman Frank Stronic found guilty of sexual assault and indecent assault.
>> A day after their historic World Cup win, it was back to work today for Canada's men's team.
>> This is Live at 5.
Good evening. I'm Bakari Savage.
>> I'm Liz Weston. Welcome to Live at Five.
>> Billionaire businessman Frank Stronic accused of sexually assaulting several women decades ago has been found guilty of sexual assault and indecent assault.
>> And CP24's Beatric Vasman has reaction from the University Avenue courthouse.
Beatric >> Liz Bakari. This started back in February as a trial uh where Frank Stronach was facing 12 criminal charges stemming from seven complaintants. But as the trial uh went on and we got to the final arguments, there was still five charges left stemming from three complainants. And that's because there were several instances where Justice Anne Mallaloy just didn't find that there was a reasonable prospect of conviction. When it comes to the three remaining complaintants, all three of those women were connected to an establishment called Rooney. It was a bar and restaurant owned by Frank Stronick. And these allegations stem from the 70s all the way to the '9s. The first woman we heard uh was a former employee at Rooney. She says that it was in the early 80s that she was fired from her job, met with Frank Stronic uh and after having dinner went back to his Harbor Front condo. That's where she alleged uh he groped her and that's the count of sexual assault that Stronic was found guilty of by Justice Malloy today.
Another complainant was a regular at Rooney and she told the court that a night back in 1977 after having dinner with Stronic. He invited her back to his apartment and that's where she told the court that he bent her over the arm of a chair, lifted up her skirt and tried to rape her. The crown withdrew the attempted rape charge in connection with this complainant, but he still faced an indecent assault charge and he was convicted of that today. Outside of the courthouse, we also heard from a woman who alleges that Stronic sexually assaulted her in the late 1980s. She's filed a civil claim against Stronic. It has not yet been tested in court and he has pleaded not guilty to it. But she reacted to today's findings by Justice Malloy outside the courthouse. And here's a listen.
I know that these historic sexual assault charges are incredibly difficult to prosecute. So, it's a great relief that two of the charges survived the attacks on the integrity and the memories of the seven complaintants. Um, it's a relief this is the outcome. I was afraid it was going to fare far worse for the crown. Um, and what it does do is it sets the stage for the governor general to revoke Frank Stronick's Order of Canada.
Justice Malloy described this as a long and an emotionally driven trial. how she delivered an 83page judgment, did not read any of it out loud in the courtroom, uh, but simply said within the first 15 minutes of us entering the courtroom at 9:00 that she was finding Mrs. Tron guilty of these two charges.
As for Estronic's criminal defense lawyer, Leora Shemish, she spent a lot of time uh, during cross-examination, poking holes uh, in the complainant story, saying that their memories had changed since since they'd given their initial statements to investigators. And at the conclusion of it, she told reporters uh that she respects the decision from Justice Malloy, who's one of the most wellrespected jurists in the entire country, saying that as she understands it, her client has been found guilty on the least serious offenses of these two complainants. We asked her what's next for her client.
Listen, >> sentencing is in September and um obviously again we'll take the time digest the decision and and ask for what we think is the most appropriate sentence in the circumstance of offenses that happened in 1977 and an offense that happened in 1983.
>> What is his response to the the decision today?
>> Mr. Stronic has always been very very faithful. I mean, he's he's very faithful in the criminal justice system and and Canada and uh he really is a national treasure and he should be treated as such in my respectful opinion.
>> So, Stronic will be back here at 361 University September 17th for sentencing. It'll be interesting to see what the crown uh what the defense is asking for and how his age 93 years old will play a role in the sentence that he receives. And then May of next year, Stronic will face a separate trial on in New Market on charges that are quite similar to the charges he faced here in Toronto. Back to you.
>> Okay, live from the University Avenue Courthouse, EP24's Beatric Vaseman.
>> And the search continues this hour for a 46-year-old Missaga man wanted in the double murder of his elderly parents.
Police are warning the public that Jordan Sanguin is considered armed and dangerous. We're going to go live to CP24's crime analyst, Steve Ryan, who's currently outside the couple's home in Port Credit. Steve?
>> Yeah, Elizabeth McCari. The home is over my my shoulder here on Brierwood Avenue, just north of the the Lakeshore here in Port Credit. Please tell us that at 7:00 p.m. last night, they responded to a disturbance call at that home. When they arrived on scene, they found a couple, a man and a woman, both in their 70s. Both had obvious signs of trauma. They were transported to a local hospital and sadly both succumbed to their injuries.
Now, we heard today that Peele Regional Police have now taken out an arrest warrant, a Canadawide warrant, which means that the return radius is throughout the country. If this uh 46-year-old now accused, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, which typically means uh the police have grounds to believe that there was some planning and deliberation. If this man is located and arrested anywhere in the country, the crown has authorized his return to this jurisdiction to face these two very serious charges. Police are encouraging the 46-year-old Jordan Sanguin uh to turn himself in after contacting a lawyer. Now, the police have said that this of course is an isolated incident.
We're showing you his picture right now.
It's important that people have a look at this. He's known to frequent the lake shore here in Port Credit. If you see him, call 911. If you have a tip as to where he might be located, you can certainly remain anonymous and provide that information to PO Police and they will follow up with every lead. This is an isolated incident. No threat to public safety. Now, there was no gun involved in this. Having said that, the police still consider this man to be armed and dangerous, and they are suggesting that people not approach him, to call police if, in fact, they know where he is or if they happen to come across him. Here's more from police, a resident who we spoke with as well, and a local business owner. Here's all three.
>> We believe that he frequents the area of Lakesure Road East in Missaga. Uh but we're asking anyone um who sees this individual in the public uh to not approach them directly um to please call 911.
Um and if anyone has any information regarding this investigation, if they can contact our uh missing person and homicide bureau at uh 9054532121 extension 3205.
Um we do have officers actively looking for this individual. Uh, but we'd appreciate any help from the public as well.
>> I don't know why. I just uh Yeah, I I didn't think it would be a random attack where somebody off the street would just come and attack these people in their home. So, my next logical thing was it must have been somebody they knew.
You've never seen the son, though. You didn't know it?
>> No, actually, I didn't really know the son. I've seen seen the parents a lot, but never seen the sons. And there was apparently three sons. Yeah. So, >> have you seen ever police come before?
No. No.
>> Never. No.
>> Yeah. He's very shocked. That's why because I'm I know him. Uh 2012. I opened this store 2012.
>> I know that that time to that guys. I never heard like he's always coming with his family. I never ever.
>> Do you know the parents as well? The elderly.
>> No, I never see his parents. I know these guys. I know his brother.
brother's pass I think four or five years ago. I don't know what happening and what I know this guy he's always here.
Now we did speak with a local resident who says that he's already spoken to police. Uh this person said that at 6:30 last night they saw the son pull up in front of the house in a silver colored pickup truck. He said there was an interaction between the now accused and his father near the front of the house.
The father was then assaulted. The man went inside of the house, was in there for about 15 minutes, and then fled this location in that gray pickup truck at 6:45 p.m. I'll send it back to you guys.
>> All right, thank you for that. CP24's Steve Ryan.
>> Well, police have identified another suspect wanted in the death of a man in North York last weekend. 25-year-old Jennifer Olaf wanted for seconddegree murder. 32-year-old Eric Suffer fatally struck in the kill in Wilson area last Sunday while a group was fighting. >> And a serious crash in Missaga this afternoon involving a motorcycle and an SUV. It happened at Airport Road in Highway 409. So Peele police say the motorcyclist in his 30s suffered life-threatening injuries. The other driver did stay on scene. The investigation continues and two people injured after a multi-vehicle crash and fire on the eastbound gardener. That was this morning. Look at this viewer video showing one of the engulfed vehicles in flames. So, it happened around 9:30 east of Young Street, not far from the Scotia Bank Arena. As many as four vehicles were involved in the crash. Two people had to go to hospital with serious injuries.
>> And now, let's check on the commute with CP24 traffic specialist Aua and Sia Ya.
AJ.
>> Yeah, Liz. You know, at least there's no fires heating up the drive, but we do have a couple of problems making for a slow go if you're trying to make your way home this hour. So on the westbound lanes of the 41 in the express through Warden crews on scene of this collision blocking that left lane as well as the left shoulder. So it is pretty busy on the approach from about Macauan. Now if you're on the 403 my camera went out we had a collision. It was on the 403 westbound through here Ontario was in the center lane and then on to the gardener westbound. Slow going as you exit the downtown core from York Bay Young out to Duffren and then hopping on to the Dawn Valley Parkway. You'll find that busiest as well. From just about Dawn Mills, the slowdowns continue all the way up towards the 401. I know Bukari was talking about that serious collision involving a motorcyclist. It is impacting Airport Road. Northbound lanes are still closed right at the 409.
No estimated time of reopening as well.
We continue to deal with a very serious collision at the intersection of Finch and Driftwood. Going to send it over now to Zara Shirazi at the TTC Transit Control Center once again checking in to see if there are any problems on [laughter] TTC that commuter should know.
Hi again, Aua. Good evening. Transit [clears throat] is moving fairly well right now. We have no major delays reported on any of our subway or LRT lines. The earlier delay on line six between Finch West and North Finch Oakdale is clear. So, shuttle buses are completing their last trips as trains resume regular service. A couple of our buses are still diverting right now though, including the 92 Woodbine South around the Woodbine and Mendle area for police activity, the 101 Downs View Park around Leage and Keel for construction, and the 952 Lawrence West Express around Airport and Jet Liner for a collision.
For more information on our service changes, make sure you check out tdc.ca and drop a follow on at TTC Notices on X for realtime updates. That's it from Transit Control. Back to you in the newsroom.
That's uh TTC communications advisor Zara Sharazzi. And a boy was sent to hospital after being hit by an LRT vehicle in North York.
>> And police say that the 13-year-old was hit at Finch and Driftwood before 3:30 this afternoon. And paramedics tell us his injuries are minor. Investigation of the collisions impacting the TTC's Line 6 with shuttle buses running between Finch West and North Finch Oakdale.

>> At a stretch of Church Street in the village is now carfree. We're going to take a closer look at the pilot project coming up.
[music] [music] A stretch of Church Street in the village is now carf free and will be much of the summer. CB2 24 C Lou joins us live with everything you need to know about the initiative. CJ, >> get your walking shoes on. For the next two months, Church Street will be closed for traffic, pedestrian only starting today at 4:00 going until August 21st.
Church Street has been pedestrianized for two blocks starting from Welssley going to Alexander. The idea is to bring more people down to Church Street, boost business. And for businesses, this means they can stretch their patios onto the streets, put some clothes racks on the streets, and get people going inside the doors and just exploring the neighborhood a bit more. Um, you're going to feel the atmosphere be like a mini party, like a festival. They want more people to come to the area, but also stay in the area for longer. Now, city councelor Chris Moyes was the one who championed this idea. He said he was inspired by Montreal's gay village, who also has a summer pedestrianon zone. And he said that Montreal saw a huge boost in business when they implemented this and that is why he wants to bring it here to Toronto. Now, city council voted in favor of this pilot project earlier in the year. Again, this is a pilot project. So, there was an amendment approved by council that says if there is any disruptions to traffic safety, security that gets out of hand, the city's traffic manager is able to shut this initiative down. But as for right now, everything has been going smoothly.
It is open for business. No cars, but everyone can head down there, walk the streets, enjoy the businesses, sit on a patio, and all the east and west streets uh are still open to vehicle traffic.
But again, this is going until August 21st. Church Street fully open for business for all pedestrians.

[cheering] >> So, uh I have been looking forward to Brazil matches from childhood. Like it I'm a big fan from them. Their culture, the samba style, the football. It's a thrill to watch.
>> Yeah. The team plays a little bit differently. They've got some flare to them, don't they?
>> Yeah, like it's it's in their blood. I would say that football is in their blood. So, they play that way. Samba is something different. Their way of football is something different.
>> S can I chat with you while the Canadian flag is waving over there. Uh tell me why soccer is your sport.
>> Soccer like we have been loving soccer since we are child. So, we we will love playing uh with our friends and watching World Cup is like a different experience. And >> you got your little one here. So, you're sharing with the Yeah, we have two kids here. So, I really want my uh kids to be uh like, you know, playing soccer as well.
>> They're growing up with soccer. Thanks so much for that. Enjoy the match here.
And we've got some Morocco fans over here.
>> Why is Morocco the best team in the world?
>> We're considered the Lions. We're the underdogs. We did it in 2022. We made it all the way to the semi-finals. I believe we're going to make it to the finals this year and win this year.
>> What's it like seeing all the support for soccer here in Toronto?
>> You know, it feels great. the energy and everything, you know, seeing all these fans get together, it feels like you're back at home, you know, and all this energy, I feel like I feel like we can take it home this time, you know what I mean?
>> So, what's the plan for the World Cup?
Are you guys just touring around different parties?
>> Yeah, we're actually touring around just different FIFA fan zones. We actually did go to the game in New York. That was amazing.
>> But now, now we're checking out the fan zones. It's amazing. We're seeing our people here, our communities being brought up brought together. It's beautiful.
>> Are you pacing yourselves? Because the World Cup, it is a long tournament.
>> Oh man. I mean, I know it's long, but you know, I'm ready for the ride. It happens every four years as everyone knows. So, you know, we're ready and and obviously it was long anticipated. So, so we're ready for this long ride ahead.
>> You know, I'm just saying I feel like it's a geography lesson when you're watching the World Cup. You're seeing fans from all over the world. What's it like seeing all these flags, all these different jerseys around?
>> Well, I didn't even know there was this many Moroccans, first of all, in Toronto. So, this is amazing to me. This is honestly a shock because we didn't have this in the 2022 World Cup. And now that we proved ourselves in the 2022 World Cup, now the Moroccan fans came out in Toronto. be meeting some cousins in the crowd. You never know.
>> Oh [laughter] yeah. Well, we're going to do a tour and see maybe. You never know.
>> Thanks so much for that, guys.
>> So, this party, it is called Unity Drumfest. Between the matches, they've got entertainment on. Thanks so much, guys. And you're going to see a lot of drumming. That's going to happen in Brazilian style coming up a little bit later on because we do have that Brazil Haiti match that's coming up in a little bit. So, we are seeing a lot of Brazil fans, a lot of Morocco fans starting to come out here and celebrate all things World Cup. There's lots to eat, by the way. Can I show you? These are some of the stands that are over here. And of course, we do have the soccer pitch that is set up at Nathan Phillips Square, too. So, every inch of Nathan Phillips Square covered with something representing different countries in the world and celebrating soccer at the same time. Back to you guys in studio. Happy World Cup.
>> Okay, live from Nathan Phillips Square, CP24's Melissa Duffy.
>> And a day after their historic World Cup win, it was back to work today for Canada's men's team. The club picked up their first ever World Cup win and World Cup shut out as they pounded Qatara 6-nil. The win all but secures Canada will move into the knockout stage.
There's one more game for Canada in the group play also in Vancouver and that is on Wednesday. And a head coach Jesse Marsh says that the win last night bodess well for the days ahead.
>> One of the reasons why I think we had such a good performance is that we were focused. we we didn't have as much um around the week leading into the match.
Now that could change. Now everybody's a Canada soccer fan after a six-nil win.
But we're going to try to maintain normaly and and focus on the task at hand and and we have a big opportunity ahead of us to win the group which I think really sets us up for success in the knockout rounds and and to stay here in Vancouver.
>> Well, Canada's goalkeeper says that they have to focus on the task at hand against the Swiss. We see that Switzerland is a very good organized European side, quality players as well.
Um, we respect them in their football and it will look like more uh like a game that we played in all in France, you know, that type of football and obviously they have a fantastic team.
Uh, I didn't see the their game and their goals and everything, but uh I think it will be a great football game where both teams can uh can hurt one another.
And after sweeping the Red Sox, the Blue Jays open the series with the Cubs in Chicago this afternoon.
>> And Kelly hits it a ton to left field and it [cheering] is gone. And not a good start for Kevin Gosman. He allowed seven runs in the first inning, including a grand slam. Gosman was done after two innings, his shortest outing of the season. The Cubs went on to route the Jays 16-2.
