Putting it together: Episode 1 "Why are we so messed up?"

[00:00:00][music] >> Well, hello again, my friends and fellow members of the Invisible College. Uh I'm starting a new series.

[00:00:17]Uh I don't know if you watched my last lecture, uh restart, you can call it, about the aliens uh in the Bible.

[00:00:26]Uh that was a bit tongue-in-cheek, but um it's true that there have been alien things happening on planet Earth.

[00:00:35]But today I want to go much deeper, and the beginning of going much deeper, into a new series, and because I believe we're really running out of time on this planet before a major change is coming.

[00:00:51]Maybe in my lifetime, maybe it'll be a bit after my lifetime. I'm quite elderly now, but um it's going to come.

[00:01:00]And there are things you need to know.

[00:01:03]Now, who am I to be telling you this? My name is Adrian Gilbert.

[00:01:07]Um I've been very much involved in what you might call research on not just esoteric matters.

[00:01:17]I've been involved in researching the Bible, researching science. I did a lot of science in my younger days. I did a degree in chemistry.

[00:01:26]Uh with also a lot of uh physics and mathematics with it. I've been a computer programmer.

[00:01:33]I've been in publishing and book selling.

[00:01:36]I've read hundreds of thousands of books on all subjects um with particular uh interests in things like alchemy and ancient Egypt, and trying to understand the history of the past.

[00:01:51]But one of the influences that has been strongest on me, on my thinking, uh was a book I picked up in when I was in Sweden.

[00:02:00]When I was I suppose I was 21 maybe just 22 at the time.

[00:02:06]And I I gone hitchhiking in Sweden with a friend of mine and we stayed with some people in Uppsala which is a university city. Sort of Cambridge or Oxford of Sweden.

[00:02:21]And I was staying with this American guy was a draft dodger.

[00:02:25]I had a lot of those in Sweden back in the day. We're talking about 1971 at the moment.

[00:02:33]Um, and the Vietnam War was still going on. So there was a lot of people went to Sweden because Sweden had an open border policy for people who were running away from their governments and Americans were considered to be in that category.

[00:02:49]Anyway, that's by the by.

[00:02:52]Uh, he had the book called In Search of the Miraculous by P. D. Ouspensky.

[00:02:59]Now, I had read one book by Ouspensky before.

[00:03:04]Um, I think it was on the fourth dimension.

[00:03:08]But this one I hadn't read and I picked it up and I couldn't put it down. I it just rang so true to me um, in all that it was saying. And I've been studying things like yoga before that and Indian philosophy.

[00:03:24]And I'd also been brought up as a Roman Catholic. I went to one of the top Roman Catholic schools in Britain.

[00:03:31]Uh, and you know, where we had Latin masses. We had to learn Latin and Greek.

[00:03:37]Uh, so you know, I had a pretty good basic education in classics or the classical languages and classical ways of thinking and the traditional Christian religion, Roman Catholicism.

[00:03:50]And you know, I had this broad basis, but I read this book, it just knocked my socks off.

[00:03:59]>> [laughter] >> So, I read all the books that he had written, and I I read books by his mentor, his his teacher, a man called George Gurdjieff.

[00:04:12]He was half Armenian and half Greek.

[00:04:15]And he was P.D. Ouspensky met him in Russia. He was P.D. Ouspensky was a Russian.

[00:04:19]He was a white Russian that fled Russia because of the revolution. And he he had ended up in London.

[00:04:26]And Gurdjieff his mentor also left Russia.

[00:04:32]And after that that go to Constantinople, he moved to France.

[00:04:37]And I think he stopped in Germany for a bit as well on the way.

[00:04:41]Anyway, I read both of them you know, they they'd both written a number of books and they'd had groups. They'd had been teachers of this strange kind of philosophy.

[00:04:52]And this is in the Ouspensky book In Search of the Miraculous was based on that.

[00:05:00]Now, I mentioned these two books in my last little lecture.

[00:05:06]But today I want to talk to you a little bit about what Gurdjieff had to say about what you might call the um the situation of the solar system and Earth in particular that has caused us so many problems.

[00:05:25]You need to start at the beginning with these these ideas and these questions.

[00:05:29]What is it about life on Earth that is so um bizarre? Why are we as we are?

[00:05:38]And so so mixed up and seemingly unable to um understand things. And Gurdjieff wrote a book himself. I mentioned it also in my last lecture called All and Everything Beelzebub's Tales to His Grandson.

[00:05:55]A rather shocking title, a punch in between the eyes.

[00:05:59]Uh talking about Beelzebub. I mean Beelzebub, the prince of devils.

[00:06:04]Well, it's a sort of um uh a spoof.

[00:06:10]Um it's a a science fiction um written in a jocular fashion.

[00:06:18]And it's you you have to understand that there is a mixture of fiction with facts.

[00:06:24]To and it's also a bit like the Arabian Nights. It's a sort of series of tales.

[00:06:30]And the basis of it is the idea that this Beelzebub is an old fallen angel who because of the sins of his youth, his his pride and his boastfulness, he got exiled from his own planet much higher up the scale than ours.

[00:06:54]And he's been exiled into the depths of the the universe or the Milky Way anyway.

[00:07:02]Uh to this this system of soul where where we live.

[00:07:06]And we're out in the out in the sticks, you know.

[00:07:09]>> [laughter] >> This is not a a prize place to be. So he's been exiled here.

[00:07:15]Along with a bunch of others who had also transgressed.

[00:07:20]And so he he settles on the the planet Mars.

[00:07:24]Um but while he's living on Mars, he periodically visits Earth.

[00:07:30]And he sort of writes or he's telling his son he he's he's now an old man and he's been pardoned and he's allowed to return home.

[00:07:40]And he's on a spaceship traveling with his his grandson.

[00:07:45]And and he was a young boy and this young boy is very interested to have stories. You know, so he tells his his grandson stories about his time in the solar system, stories about particularly his time on Earth and his observations of mankind and how bizarre they are compared with other what he calls three-brained beings on other planets who go out normally but something happened to these people on Earth that they're really mixed up and it's quite funny the things they do and their their craziness. Um for example, this whole business of them going to war all the time. No no other three-brained beings on other planets go do this, you know.

[00:08:30]Go out and kill each other um for no real reason.

[00:08:36]Um but people on the Earth do. And he's trying to explain these these anomalies to his grandson.

[00:08:44]Anyway, I'm not going to that at the moment but he does say um the the reason why these uh three-brained beings on planet Earth behave so strangely and he gives he gives um a thesis. Now, you don't have to believe this.

[00:09:04]You don't have to believe this but some parts of it I think you're going to be able to see that there's some truth in here that needs a bit more examining.

[00:09:14]And he says that long long ago the planet the sun like other suns or stars had its planets and it was fine.

[00:09:24]Everyone was going tickety-boo and the the people were growing up on there, they were developing their higher bodies and then they were leaving as they They do. A bit like caterpillars turning into butterflies and being able to fly off.

[00:09:41]But then something happened to the solar system.

[00:09:45]And the way he puts it, he says another star came too close.

[00:09:50]And because of this closeness, it caused disruption and the destruction of a planet that was in between Mars and Jupiter.

[00:10:01]And that caused a big explosion and and shrapnel flying on all places.

[00:10:08]Um this is where we now have our asteroid belts.

[00:10:12]And this caused disruption to planet Earth.

[00:10:17]And planet Earth prematurely gave birth to the moon.

[00:10:22]And because it given birth to the moon, like a good mother, the the the Earth has to feed its offspring.

[00:10:31]And has to feed it certain kind of energy.

[00:10:34]Subtle energy to keep this moon alive.

[00:10:38]So it didn't have enough to support the moon. So a terrible decision was taken by some Archangels who came to sort out this problem.

[00:10:53]And they decided that in order to save the moon, they had to stop the development of the human race.

[00:11:01]Cap it off and stop humans being able to use their subtle energy to develop the higher bodies.

[00:11:10]And the way they did this is that they implanted a new organ into our DNA, into our bodies.

[00:11:20]At the base of our tail. And he says that you know, prior to that we had tails. Well, they put in this organ into the base of our tail. And he calls it Kundabuffer. Now, if you know anything about yoga or Eastern religions, they have this concept of Kundalini. You've probably heard of it.

[00:11:39]The idea of this serpent energy at the base of your spine that can rise up your spine and cause this thousand-petal lotus to open in your head and you can become enlightened.

[00:11:54]>> [snorts] >> Well, they put this organ Kundabuffer in to stop that so that the energy would be drained off to support the moon.

[00:12:08]And they thought, "Well, we'll we'll we'll come back. We'll reverse it in due course once we've got things stabilized with the moon. We'll come back. We'll take that organ out and the human race can get on with its progression as it should do."

[00:12:24]So, that was all well and good.

[00:12:26]But then they when they came back eventually and the moon was in its orbit properly and it's everything is going all right, they sort of repaired the solar system.

[00:12:37]But they took out this organ, so we don't have it anymore.

[00:12:42]But unfortunately, while they'd had the organ, they'd developed a lot of bad habits.

[00:12:49]Um things like war and seeing things upside down or getting very materialistic and not understanding their position.

[00:13:01]They were cut off from reality as it were and inventing ideas, inventing concepts and also this energy that should have been going to develop their higher bodies had to go somewhere and instead of it rising up the spine it was being used in extraordinary sexual things.

[00:13:31]Particularly imagination and masturbation and all all the things that you know only only humans and apes seem to masturbate.

[00:13:46]You don't get that with most animals.

[00:13:48]They come into heat and they do their thing and they produce offspring. But the human race has this particular peculiarity about being really obsessed with sex.

[00:13:59]So this was all manifestations of the because of this organ Kundabuffer. But unfortunately even when the organ was removed we had established habits.

[00:14:12]And the habits are passed down generation to generation.

[00:14:16]So that all the bad habits of your family, your parents and grandparents and great-grandparents going back that they're going to come through to you again. So this was holding back the human race from developing properly.

[00:14:33]So the book goes on to talk about how this Beelzebub tries to help every now and then and gets it all wrong and he mixes things up even more at times. But he also meets certain people on Earth trying to do the right thing, certain wise men who try to form societies to get over and see the truth so that they can develop. Um he doesn't actually go into the story of Jesus.

[00:15:09]But you can tell that this is leading up to that.

[00:15:13]Um so it's a very weird book.

[00:15:19]But you have to understand it in the context of the other books that I was talking about, particularly In Search of the Miraculous to begin to see what this is all about.

[00:15:31]That we are in a situation where we're not developing and we're living our lives out out as sort of just marginally more intelligent animals.

[00:15:44]And then we die and we haven't got our higher bodies built.

[00:15:48]And the next one up is supposedly the astral body.

[00:15:52]He talks about that. Um that comes with the word astral meaning light as well as star.

[00:15:58]It's not sort of star body. It's a a light body, a body of light.

[00:16:03]And that in the Bible is what Jesus talks about a lot. He He know he talks about the wedding garment and he talks about you have to have a light within.

[00:16:13]And we see in pictures of saints that they often have an illuminated halo to show that they're enlightened. And And enlightenment doesn't mean just being clever, smart, >> [laughter] >> able to um understand mathematics better.

[00:16:30]It means having a light within you.

[00:16:32]So those who are enlightened are really the Illuminati, the true Illuminati, not the devils that you know, playing with the banking systems and trying to you know, make everybody else slaves.

[00:16:47]Not about that. But to to be truly illumined, it means to have a light within you. And that light becomes because the energy can be brought up to your head but it also can be we can cause a reconnection with what I call the logos stream in my lectures which is the connection to the the mind of God, you could say, or the the driving force of the entire universe. Obviously step down, you can you know you wouldn't take the energy of the universe into you any more than you'd take a million volts.

[00:17:24]Um you might be able to take let's say 12 volts or 5 volts or something fine for you. You wouldn't want to sort of billion trillion volts like you have driving us a star like the sun.

[00:17:40]So this is what his teachings from radio all about and this kind of is illuminating in the sense that it puts light on other teachings such as yoga.

[00:17:54]But also on Christianity and the Christianity that we have today is a sort of um sort of watery sort of very weak orange juice of a Christianity that even when I was a boy we used to have things like the Lenten fast.

[00:18:15]You know, you would fast only eat certain amount small amounts throughout the period of Lent 40 days leading up to Easter. You had the Advent fast leading up to Christmas. So you had the feast days Easter and Christmas.

[00:18:32]But that they were came after a period of privation when you had been you know, reducing and taking control over your body and struggling with it.

[00:18:45]And this was the other point about um Gurdjieff's teachings was that in order to progress you've got to struggle with yourself.

[00:18:55]Because that creates the friction that can enable these other bodies to crystallize.

[00:19:05]So I want you to see that what we're going to talk about is not just airy-fairy philosophy.

[00:19:13]I mean, you might think that, but uh um think about the actual solar system as it is. It is a damaged solar system.

[00:19:23]Um I know if you read science books and astronomy, they'll tell you, "Well, the asteroid belt was just formed what there is stuff left over. You know, there was this this gas cloud, most of it formed the sun, and there's this ring around of gas, and that kind of consolidated to make planets, and there's some left over which caused this little asteroid belt, but don't worry about it. It's You know, it's just there. Probably one around every star."

[00:19:51]Well, I have to tell you that's not true.

[00:19:54]If that were true, now, I have a um a meteorite. I I've got it over there, I think. I'll see if I can pick it up. Hold on a second.

[00:20:06]Yes.

[00:20:08]Well, you can go and see meteorites, can't you, in the the Natural History Museum or the uh the big museums in What's it called? The in in uh Washington, D.C.

[00:20:21]Anyway, this that is a meteorite.

[00:20:26]And you can see it's a lump of heavy stuff, but it's not rock. It's iron.

[00:20:32]Um it's an iron meteorite.

[00:20:35]And some meteorites are iron, you know, others are made of rock.

[00:20:42]And that tells me very specifically that it must have come from the core of a planet.

[00:20:50]You don't get iron just consolidating out of gas clouds in space.

[00:20:55]That has to have come out of the core of a planet.

[00:20:58]And so, there was a planet in between Mars and Jupiter, which for whatever reason blew up.

[00:21:06]We can go into that another time, maybe what caused it. I I'm not entirely in agreement with Gerges if about the star coming too close and causing it. Um I think there's something a bit more than that, but anyway, this is actually piece of iron and it must have come from the core of a planet. Well, you know, we we have an iron core in our planet.

[00:21:28]And if you blew up this planet, you'd end up with bits of iron floating around as well as rock.

[00:21:34]And most most meteorites are rock because most of the planet is rock. And people say, "Ah, yes, but it can't have been a planet. There's not enough stuff in the asteroid belt for it to be the leftovers of a planet." Well, probably it isn't. The maybe a lots of other parts of it either ended up in Jupiter, sh- showering on Mars causing crises, showering on the Earth and the Moon, and Mercury [clears throat] and other places, and and going into the Sun. So, what we have left in the asteroid belt is probably just a small fraction of what was this planet. And I I believe that the large um planetesimal um they call Ceres, um you know, the minor planet asteroid, I think that was probably a moon at the time. And it's quite possible our moon came from this well.

[00:22:34]So, we have to think about these things and think about them sensibly.

[00:22:40]What could have happened to the uh to the solar system that we have an asteroid belt?

[00:22:47]And when you look at it look at it that way, you begin to see that it is a damaged solar system. Something big happened a long time ago.

[00:22:57]And that could indeed have something to do with why the human race is not as developed as it should be.

[00:23:04]Why we do all the crazy things that we do.

[00:23:08]But we're going to talk more about ourselves and and concept of self-development later on.

[00:23:16]But I want you to take on board a couple of things here. First of all, um we shouldn't think of our sun as being unique and having planets. We now know if we look through telescopes and we we got them the uh technology now to be able to work out when stars have planets, usually by change in the light the light that comes from that star in a regular way. They can uh work out the orbit of a planet from the the the light that's coming from the star.

[00:23:49]Um they can work out those which have hot Jupiters, as they call them. You know, imagine a Jupiter-size planet quite close to its star.

[00:23:59]Or if they have other planets, solid planets, and and when they have one that's in what they call the Goldilocks Zone that might be just the right distance from their sun at their their star and has water on board that could possibly support the sort of life that we have here.

[00:24:18]So, we know that there are you know, planets elsewhere and it's it makes sense that life is not something unique to planet Earth.

[00:24:30]There's going to be life all over the place. Maybe not looking like us.

[00:24:34]You know, they could be very intelligent elephants or they could be giant insects. We don't know.

[00:24:41]But we can understand that um life is possible elsewhere. There could well be and I actually I believe there are other planets which have humanoids similar to us because the human um structure is actually a very ideal one for the type of environment that we are in.

[00:25:05]But I'll talk more about that later, but you know, it's not just a brain, it's our hands. You can do things with hands.

[00:25:12]If you only got claws, it's going to make it very hard for you to build a microcomputer, isn't it? But you have got hands like we have and you can do delicate things.

[00:25:23]Uh it's going to be much easier. So, the possibility of development, I think uh there will be other beings similar to ourselves because the blueprint, once you've got a blueprint for a particular species, you're going to use it in multiple uh you know uh operations, aren't you?

[00:25:47]You won't just use it once and throw it away.

[00:25:50]So, we'll go into that in later lectures, but at this one I wanted to share with you the idea that we are damaged as human race partly because the solar system was damaged. This is Gurdjieff's theory, anyway.

[00:26:04]Um but also certain angels, let's call them fallen angels, Beelzebub, tried to do things to us maybe for their own reasons.

[00:26:17]And the the um the experiment went wrong.

[00:26:23]And so things had to be done to try to help us, to rescue us.

[00:26:28]And that brings us to the idea of rescue missions. And I'm going to talk about that much more in later lectures.

[00:26:36]So, that's all I'm going to go into today. Uh um I hope you enjoyed it. Think about these ideas, though. Think about the cosmic sense of the solar system which is missing a planet, like having an arm cut off.

[00:26:52]Um that should be there between Jupiter and Saturn.

[00:26:57]And we'll get back to this later.
