Hnevank Monastery, meaning 'Old Monastery' in Armenian, is a historic Armenian Apostolic Church monastery located near Kurtan village in Lori Province, Armenia. Situated on a hill within a gorge where the Dzoraget and Gargar rivers converge, the monastery was entirely rebuilt by Lord Smbat of the House of Orbelian in the late 12th century. The Orbelian family, a branch of the Liparitids who were expelled from Georgia into Armenia, were themselves descendants of the Mamikonians. A Georgian inscription around the drum attests to Smbat's name, and the monastery features a gavit and various service buildings. The Armenian government has recently begun renovating the site, with the collapsed dome of the main church being fully restored.
