On November 9, 1989, East German Politburo spokesman Günter Schabowski accidentally announced that new travel regulations would take effect immediately, when they were actually scheduled for the next day. This unintended announcement caused tens of thousands of East Berliners to gather at the Berlin Wall checkpoints, demanding to cross. With no updated orders to use force, the guards eventually opened the gates, leading to the Wall's fall within days and effectively ending the Cold War. This historical event demonstrates how a single bureaucratic mistake can trigger massive historical change.
