Weather forecasting involves analyzing atmospheric conditions including cloud cover, temperature variations, and precipitation patterns to predict daily weather. A cold front moving through an area typically brings showers and thunderstorms, while inland areas tend to be warmer than coastal regions due to the moderating effect of water. Forecasters use radar and satellite imagery to track weather systems and predict when precipitation will occur, helping communities prepare for changing conditions.

WPRI 12 Weather Forecast 5/10/26: Mainly Dry Today; More Showers TonightAdded:
Such [music] a nice story there. Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there on this Sunday. We do have a little bit of a cloudy start to our day.
We'll have the clouds around for a good part of the day, unfortunately, but if there's any good news, we'll be looking at a mainly dry day across our area and some warmer temperatures as well. And I think we'll be squeaking out some sunshine later this morning and into parts of the afternoon away from the coastline, especially. So, here's Providence. You can see the gray skies out there. We do have some pockets of fog in you know, places like Narragansett and over towards Newport.
Lincoln, though, is just dealing with the cloud cover. It is a little bit drier further away from the water in that fog. There is a some mist and drizzle, though. So, looking out, visibility pretty good across much of the area. This has been much improved just compared to a couple hours ago where we had some thick fog out there.
Temperatures right now, we're in the 50s, not too bad. 56 in Providence, 53 down in Westerly, 54 in Newport. We'll be in the 60s along the shoreline for later today and close to 70 for the afternoon across inland locations. So, radar is quiet. This should be the case all day. Looking at dry weather through the daytime hours. Any rainfall that I'm tracking should hold off until after dark and during the evening hours tonight. It's all with the cold front that is off to our west and as this advances to the south and east, we'll be looking at that shower chance again increasing for later on tonight. So, three key things, drier overall for today, warmer for inland spots, another round of that, you know, shower storm activity tracking on through. Not really a huge deal, but it's our next chance of rain.
Looking at the week ahead, it's kind of a half and half week. Monday's dry with some extra clouds around. Tuesday is personally my pick of the week with with, you know, sunshine and warm temperatures in the 60s. But then as we go to the end of the week, that's when we get more unsettled weather coming our way. We'll see that in just a second.
Satellite and radar showing you the frontal system off to our west. You can kind of see the the shape of it here with the clouds and some of the showers.
You can kind of see that line here. This is the frontal boundary. So, it's moving in our direction. It'll bring us some clouds for later today and then also some showers by the evening hours. So, we do have more clouds out there now this morning with the fog, but it's separate from the frontal system that's off to the west. We should get a little bit of a sunshine kind of a break in between the cloud cover for the middle part of the day into the afternoon for the second half of the day. Let's time things out. We'll go forward here. See what I'm talking about? Here's noon time seeing some of the clearing in some locations with some of that sun trying to overpower the cloud cover for the second half of our day. Temperature should respond a bit to that. Looking at close to 70 out ahead of that cold front across inland areas later on today. Still thinking a little bit cooler near the shoreline, but not too bad. Here come the the front with the rain showers as well. Some rumbles of thunder possible later on this evening into tonight. Not a huge deal, but it does move on through rather quickly and it helps to dry things out as we go into Monday. But I mentioned those clouds really being pesky for Monday. This is 9:00 a.m. as many are heading out the door of course for work and school early on. Notice the clouds pretty much stick around for a good chunk of the day. There could be some breaks of sun tomorrow. We don't really clear things out though until Monday night and especially Tuesday. So, Tuesday is looking like a really nice day across our area with 60s and sunshine. So, looking forward to that.
Here's your Mother's Day forecast for you. Again, lots of clouds for the first half of the day.
A bit of sun for the second half. Warmer across inland areas. Your pollen forecast of course is always a big topic this time of year. A little bit lower for today in the medium pollen category.
Monday a little bit higher and then Tuesday, Wednesday go back to that red high category as we have dry conditions for Tuesday. 7-day forecast. Showers will arrive for Wednesday afternoon.
Those continue right through Thursday and you can see what I'm talking about that second half of the week not looking so good with numerous shower chances.
We'll of course have updates on that time frame over the next few days. Full 7-day forecast as always on our website wpri.com.
