Speech Therapy & Autism Part 1Added:
Just finished a speech therapy session with an autistic child. So, before I tidy up, I thought I'd quickly talk you through what we've been working on. So, they're at the early stages of their communication journey. They're not using words yet, but they are communicating.
They vocalize, they hand reach, they look. They show me when they want help.
And what's been really lovely is they're starting to let me be a part of their play. That crunching is rainbow drops.
They were all over the floor. At the moment, we're working on Oh.
At the moment, we're working on building attention and exploring lots of different ways to communicate. So, today we used the rainbow stacker. They make a choice of which piece they'd like and then they stack them in their own way.
So, that gives us lots of opportunities for choice making, turn taking, colors, requesting help, and shared attention.
