Part one, we'll always talk about Liverpool and potential exits from the football club. Obviously today, the news that I can look set to leave and we'll have a little bit of chat about Curtis Jones as well. And then after the break, potential incomings.

Uh right then guys, let's talk. Speaking of saving money, Liverpool aren't doing that. In fact, they might have cost themselves a fair few quid and it's been confirmed this morning by Paul Joyce after all the reports yesterday about Ibu Kate and his um his future. It looks like he is going to leave on a free that after Liverpool beat Everton in April, he was in the mix zone talking and he basically said he was going to stay and it was pretty much all done and dusted and I think at that point everyone was just expecting an announcement. It didn't come since it emerged obviously that that now isn't the case. Couldn't agree terms for whatever reason and Liverpool are losing Ibu Canate for free. What are your initial thoughts?

[00:04:04]>> Well, quite surprised because of exactly what you said. I didn't expect it to happen given all the talk a month or two ago was that he it was resolved and he was going to sign this new contract. Um even to the point where my mate on the last day of the season uh for the game against Brenford because obviously we knew we were saying goodbye to Salon Robertson he said well is this Kenate's last game and because in my head it was all resolved. I said to him, "Well, no, he's out of contract next year."

[00:04:28]>> And I'd literally forgotten he was out of contract this year because I just put it to the back of my mind to that much of an extent. Um, and then I was like, well, yeah, that that is a bit of an odd one because when you Canate was going around at the end of the game, he he was getting a round of applause and you this a goodbye lap and just my head was all over the place. Um, and we've obviously got the clarity of it last night and um, I just think quite disappointed overall.

[00:04:49]If this news came in November when he seemingly was chucking one in every week and it felt like we were starting games 1 nil down because he was in that poor form, uh, I probably wouldn't have minded so much. But he did turn it round and uh I think ideally you have Kenate there in your squad and and when he's in that run of poor form which he does have quite a bit you bring somebody of the caliber of like a Jac or a or a fully fit Leone in but we don't have that option now and it's more work. It's one of them we we don't know again we be speculating Ian on like why they haven't agreed to him and I'm sure it'll come out in due course whether it was money contract length just whatever maybe he's been told he's not going to start and Jackie is going to start and we we just don't we don't know what's happened um you are losing a guy who's in the prime of in terms of his years obviously in terms of his form we can discuss about where he stands as a footballer but that is a potential 50 plus million pound easy probably defender who Liverpool have just lost for nothing. In the same summer where MoSala has gone, Anthony Robo's gone. A year ago, Trent was going to go for free, Liverpool ends up getting a little bit of money so he could play in the club World Cup. Like for you know, a self- sustaining model and a and a world of PSR, that's a lot of valuable footballers who have left for nothing there for for the Reds and and most most of them, if not all of them, are going to need to be replaced this summer. for a football club that stays so close with its finances and picks every penny. It's it's massive mistakes all around. Um I was convinced he was gone anyway. And then the stuff came out in April where he said he was close and I was like really because of because of the rumors of the money he'd been asking that I'd just accepted he'd gone. And then even Jack a couple of days ago was talking about I'm going to learn off Virg Van Djk and Canata going to be there. and going to learn from them him and a couple of us went, "Oh, what the hell are you staying?" And then it just sort of came out of nowhere last night. Um, and we're losing a very good player. Um, but like I said, the amount of money we've lost because we've not sold players quickly enough and they look like they're not going to sign is now becoming a massive problem. Getting players extended seems to be a problem. I mean, once Canate is gone, our next problem is Dominic. he's going into we're going to have a similar problem with him. We don't sort that out quickly. Um what worries me though is how many people wanting to leave the club right now. That that's a concern for me. Um normally Liverpool is a club that you have to fight tooth and nail to stay at and people just seem to be opening the door and walking out. I suppose Andy all the reporting is and I've got one from Paul Got the show of course said intention always been to keep to defend that when agreement hasn't been reached. It it makes you think it's money related. We don't again we'll never know what he'll be doing and his camp are asking for that might come out down the line. Um he's probably asking some somewhere in the 250 grand a week mark which is probably it's mad that's the going great these days.

[00:07:41]Canate if he asks for that he's probably looking at gapo getting that grainburg something similar I'm sure s bosi is in talks for a similar deal that just feels like what the number is and again right or wrong but he's going to leave now and the question becomes do Liverpool was Jeremy Jac the replacement for Ibuk and we're going to go into next season with van Djk and Jac Leone and Gomez all of whom by the way have different questions about them age and injury is a sad or Liverpool now have to go and spend some of this summer's budget on a on a center half and eat away into maybe what the budget was for say another midfielder or another winger or a right back or a goalkeeper whatever that that's the question. Do you think they are going to go and sign another one or do you think they're going to be happy with what they've got?

[00:08:24]>> Well firstly four definitely isn't enough especially one of them is Joe Gomez and I'm sorry to say that because I think Joe Gome is Joe Gomez is a fantastic footballer's been a fantastic servant to the club but I do think his body's different from all these injuries um and and obviously he's not reliable to stay fit the whole time. So like for example, even when Kate was in that two, three month run of really bad form last year, at no point did he trust Joe Gomez for an extended run of games because he can't. So what's important keeping him around as your reserve? Well, if this player is not playing well or if this player's injured, you bring Gomez in when when you just don't. Um and Gomez had fantastic games last year. I remember Marseilles away. Um he was best player on the pitch. Um and if you can get that Gomez week in week out, um twice a week every every year, then fantastic. problem solved, but you can't and you won't. So, definitely need to go out and sign another. And you're right, like for me, and we'll come on to talk about it. I think we need to do at the very minimum two wingers, ideally three.

[00:09:17]I think we need another body in the midfield. Right back's a really interesting situation because, well, if Connor Bradley comes back, the same player, then fine, but it's at a stop gap until there. Um, at some stage, you're going to need to do something with the goalkeeper, whether it's this year or next year. Um, and then center half as well. And just this idea that we're going to get six or seven top class players in in these positions, it's just not going to happen. It's fanciful thinking and I can just see ourselves I can see ourselves leaving ourselves short again in in some certain areas and that's no way to go into a season.

[00:09:48]>> No, I suppose Ian like Liverpool did do the deal for Jeremy Jac and you guess he's probably coming to play at some point whether that was to take Kate's place or be a long-term replacement for Virgil or probably both. But the idea probably was to integrate him at some point anyway. But as it stands, he will be the starter. You would guess. Again, I don't know where where Leone and and Gomez fit into that, but you would you'd imagine it would be Jac and that might be absolutely fine. Um, but he is a young lad coming off a major shoulder issue by the way that he he should be fine for. Leoni looked impressive in half a game. Done his ACL. He's coming back. We we've been there with Joe Gomez before. And Virgil's 34 and like he played every single minute of every Premier League game and that probably isn't sustainable. You don't really want to be doing that. I don't think it does him any favors either. It just adds to this this feeling of of uncertainty now because Ibu was actually going to be the only one we had who was in his prime in terms of age in terms of his fitness as well. Boo's record isn't stellar, but it's not horrendous like you, you know, touch woods for him. All of a sudden, now we've got an old guy who just met better, a very good old guy, the old one of the greatest of all time. Joe Gomez is late 20s and off unfortunately and they set off an injured and then two very young lads never really played in England before. Both coming off pretty long layoffs as well. That's a hu that are warning signs there. That that that feels a little bit like red flag should be waving somewhere at the >> ax. You know what's scary, right? Is like we were we were all ready for this this season to end and then you're waiting for the big transfer story, aren't you, to book your idea to book it up and get you through the summit. And our first big story is one of our players is leaving and one of our one of our starters is leaving. Um it it's a tough one because Canad needed not to play as much last season.

[00:11:28]He needed someone to come in for him. So the Van Djk. So having Jack and Leone there that offers the opportunity to rest somebody. Now if you're bringing somebody else in now and somebody who's going to be Canate's equal or maybe an upgrade on Canate, that person's going to want to play every game. So then what you do with your 60 million 60 million pound defender you've just signed. You're not going to play many games this season now because I do think he would have got a few games more than with Kenate there cuz Canate has not made this deal.

[00:12:03]Virgil van Djk, we don't know what this season's going to do to him next season.

[00:12:06]He's played every game for Liverpool pretty much and then he's going to go and play in a World Cup. He at some point he's going to need to put his feet up and go listen. I need to stop here a minute. Um so what do we do? Do you do you brave it and go listen? We'll see how the young lads do and everything's not working. We we do something in January.

[00:12:26]>> Yeah.

[00:12:27]>> But Liverpool in general don't do big things in January.

[00:12:32]>> We've got Ben Jacobs by this is obviously an evolving story. The news only broke officially in terms like there was some last night and in terms of all the this morning I think obviously Liverpool have had their briefings or whatever. It's all coming out. Ben Jacob says Liverpool have chosen not to proceed with what is seen as an expensive renewal that instead they'll put their resource into replacing Muhammad Salah and maybe strengthening and into other strengthening other key areas of the summer. They have high hopes of Jeremy Jac and Julie only. It feels like maybe they're thinking I know James Pierce reporting the gap was too big between what he'd be wanting what Liverpool willing to pay. Maybe Liverpool just didn't think he was he was worth what he was asking for and that's certainly a possibility at some point. Andy, there would have been a number, but there you will you do have to say truth to yourself. If he's asking and we don't know, but if he's asking for 300 grand a week or whatever, Liverpool probably within the right to say listen that isn't for us. He probably isn't that level of defender to be honest.

[00:13:19]>> We just don't we but we don't we just don't know what what is going to happen though is they're going to have to if they aren't going to sign someone, it actually makes sense in terms of the finances because they've already got those players on the books and in anyway. if they were going to replace him by the time you add in a transfer fee and the wages of the new guy, it probably would have been cheaper to keep him. So, the fact that they're letting him go maybe does suggest that they're happy with what they've got because otherwise the numbers don't make sense.

[00:13:41]>> I understand the the argument on the on the wages. If he's looking 300 grand a week, then he's probably going to be what our second, third, fourth, but that's just a number I made up by no report.

[00:13:50]>> But but but I know I I think there I think I had seen it at one stage. It was something around 250 300 that he was wanting and that that is too much given our wage structure. It's he's he's not that level of player. I mean, first and foremost, when when Van Dijk's injured, and I think this is the case for pretty much anyone who's played center half for Liverpool alongside Van Djk in the last seven or eight years, when he's injured, I don't see Canate stepping up and being that leader. I think he looks really, really shaky. I think, by the way, that was the same with Joel Matip. And Joel Matip's the best center half I've seen for Liverpool alongside Van Djk in my lifetime. Um, so it's no great indictment. This is the greatest center half ever in my opinion. you play alongside and we're saying you know if you get used to that and you get comfortable well all of a sudden when you need to lead that's very difficult but we know Van Djk probably two or three years time isn't going to still be here and I'd rather give that 300 grand a week to maybe a Leone who could potentially be that leader who then takes on from Van Djk and and he leads the defense in every game obviously we'll need a couple of years to make sure Leone definitely is that player so I understand the argument around around the money and if he was saying it's 300 grand or boss then it's the right decision but I just think like all of these these mistakes in my opinion that we've made sort of over the last couple of years. Well, with Trent, well, you know, maybe he always wanted Madrid.

[00:15:04]Maybe there was nothing we could do about it. Maybe it was good money for Lewis Diaz for the age he was at. Um maybe Kiheis was the only player available in 2024 or 2025 when we when we only signed him. It's like you can make sort of mitigation for all of these mistakes that Liverpool have made, but ultimately at the heart of them. I think they're all mistakes and the common denominator is the current setup. It's that the director of football and and um and you know, Michael Edwards and Richard like we're just getting things wrong time after time after time, leaving ourselves short time and time and time again. And at some point, the buck has to stop with And what happens and what happens is you create another transition period because the more people that lead, the more people you bring in. So there's no continuity.

[00:15:46]There's no synergy. There's nothing there. So that carries over from the previous season. And after the massive transition season just had it looks like now because of what the work we need to do over the summer, we're going to go into another transition season which means another season of unrest amongst the fans.

[00:16:01]>> Yeah, it is a like I say it's a tough one because in isolation actually we have to hear from Lewis. Shout out beyond the cop. Lewis says since 2020 Liverpool have lost Ibu Salah Robot Trent Fino Chamberlain Kater Wald Lana Ariggi Klein for that round of£10 million and if you go through all of those you can like Kato he was injured whatever Chamberlain was the same Lana was the same Waldom you go through it all but actually at some point you're thinking hang on a minute like for a self-sustaining club and that's what your point is especially on Canard and Trent they're ones where you really would have liked to have got good money for them. Having said that, Andy, you can't make a fellow sign a contract either. You know, if you offer him what you think is a fair wage and he just wants to go, Alexander Arnold, who got offered by all accounts a big money to stay, vice captain of the football club or you offer Kate decent money and he chooses to go like you said in isolation, you can kind of understand it, but all but you are looking all of a sudden at the mess around thinking Christ, I know I wasn't in complete control of all of this in certain aspects, but we are left here with with what is quite a mess. Yeah, I think there's a a bit of succession planning argument around it as well. So, you don't want all of your best players growing old together and then their legs fall off all together and you have to do that surgery all at the same time. I don't think you want loads of players contracts running out at the same time as well. I mean, we got ourselves into a situation where Trent Salah and Van Djk I was going to say probably definitely our three best players last season. We went into April not knowing uh their situation. And of course, it didn't ruin our our celebration of winning the league. Nothing possibly could, but it was hanging over us when it should have really just been a oh, happy days. We're all moving into next season together.

[00:17:38]Everyone knows where they stand. Um, so I think there's an argument that you almost you should never quite be at absolute 100%. You should always be at 90% because there's always that player you can replace and bring in and it stops it all sort of coming crashing down all at once. Um and you know you sort of think back to the the midfield of like Henderson when Alden Milner um and and Chamberlain and Kada and all those players were great for us at different times but they all did sort of fall off sort of around the same time which meant we had to do a big surgery that was in a transition season. Um, and I just I just think the succession planning can be a little bit better. Um, so that we're not constantly having to do these big transitions every year which inevitably lead to drop points which inevitably lead to, you know, seasons burned and looking towards the next year. And for me that was Liverpool 15 years ago when I was growing up. It's it's not the Liverpool of today that's that's fighting for the big two every season. Um, we need to find a way of getting back to that. I suppose on the succession plan I think a to round up on the Kate situation. Let's know your thoughts guys as well because we are live so love to bring some comments up in a minute but >> the idea at the thinking well Jac was the succession plan or Leoni was the succession plan that makes sense if they didn't offer Canate a contract. They've been in talks him since 2023 November 23 opened the conversations is what is what's come out today and they couldn't find an agreement apparently offered them a decent wage. So this isn't like Robertson or Waldom or Bobby Firmino where Liverpool basically said there's not here for you like this. We're quite we're quite happy letting you go which which is what eventually happened with those players. Liverpool did want to keep Ibukate. They wanted to keep T Alexander Arnold. That isn't succession plan and because Jac isn't the succession plan. He obviously he was meant to be here alongside with Ibuk. He was never meant to be Kenate's replacement otherwise Liverpool would never have offered this contract in the first place. So that is something of note here. This isn't Liverpool going, we're fine losing Ibu because we've got these two lads. They did want to keep him.

[00:19:35]>> Yeah, they did. But I think maybe we need to be a bit more ruthless earlier on. I need to say, listen, if you don't want to sign this contract, you're going in January or we're not going to play you. We need to do something. We need to be a little bit meaner. We need to do what the clubs would do. But we we don't I mean that was sort of taken away from from with the Kennady situation with the injuries with the center backs. There's no way you could have said to Kach, "Well, I'm not going to sign. We're not going to play because we'd have probably ended up with Graenburg, a center half."

[00:20:00]>> Yeah.

[00:20:01]>> But like I said, in isolation, that's all right for Canate. But it's that much since if I get he was a scout and a vice captain, but if he didn't want to stay, I I I was very much in the view he should have should have shouldn't have been playing for about 6 months. You don't want to be at the club, you don't play for us, we need to be a bit more harsh and a bit more brutal. need to say, "Listen, if you don't want to be here, we're not going to use you."

[00:20:26]>> Yeah. For contract talks, they're going for like two two hours and not get anywhere. Something's something's not quite right. Um, right then to Let's have a look. I'll see if I've got some comments. Jared says, "Yeah, Ben Jacobs is hinting, we're not going to replace Kate with just a vomit emoji." So, Gerard isn't quite pleased with that one. If it does feel like that, they're not going to to go for it.

[00:20:47]>> Yeah. And as Giant G says, it looks like it's going to be Van Djk, Shak, Leon, and Gomez. it that I think it's hinting towards that to be honest with you.

[00:20:53]They're going to try and spend the money um spend the money elsewhere. Um that is it for the Canat stuff. Obviously, if more comes out, I'm sure we you know in terms of where he's going. I've heard rumors of Chelsea, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, decent football clubs by the way were potentially interested, but we'll find out that in due course. Let's move on then to another potential exit from the football club. And this one actually might be kind of what you hinted at before when it relates to Curtis Jones in the case of he's about to enter the final year of his contract. Um, according to report, I think Sio Romano reported a couple of days ago, Curtis Jones is prioritizing the move to Inter Milan. There's been conversations around it. Um, that feels like that could be this one. Liverpool again probably would like Curtis to stay if he's indicated that he's not going to sign the contract. I think >> Paul Joyce's report a few weeks ago was Curtis wants to play more, which is completely understandable. I mean, he has played the most minutes he's ever played last season, but he still hasn't played probably as enough as much as he wants.

[00:21:45]>> That this might be what you're saying there. Liverpool don't want to get to a situation where they're letting a player leave for nothing and they might cash in on Curtis. That feels like where this potentially is heading.

[00:21:53]>> Yeah. Yeah. And it's an this is somewhat of an easy decision because Curtis Jones doesn't start every week. He's not one of the main guys. Unless he's like to be, he's not. So, it's an easy I think it's an easy decision for the say, listen, if you don't want to stick around, we're going to we're going to let you go and we're going to replace you. For what it's worth, I think for the amount of minutes Curtis Jones got last season, I think he should have had more. I think he definitely should have played ahead of Mallister for for a lot more games. I think he got totally put through the ring of playing at right back. I had people saying that I that they thought he played well at right back. I thought he didn't. And and that's not down to him. He's not a right back. He's a central midfielder and a push. He's a winger. He's definitely not a right back. Um, so I feel a little bit sorry for Curtis Jones. I was I've seen people saying he's not that good. He's people only bother because he's a scouter. I think he's I think he's very good. I think the problem with Curtis Jones is when he seems to be getting a bit of sorry bit of speed up and a bit of bit of form, he picks up a niggle.

[00:22:59]He's always been so unlucky that way.

[00:23:00]He'll get a good run of games in and then he'll pick something up. Um, but I do think I'm not saying he's he should be playing week in week out. I'm not saying he should be our number eight as he should be like a Steven Jedi character. But for me, he should definitely definitely be playing more games. He should have started more games last season.

[00:23:18]>> I suppose this is where it gets difficult because we got a comment here as viewers on the field on YouTube says Jones should stay. It's another mistake if he leaves and he left a comment and I understand it. However, we have just in the last segment they got the pool for losing players for free instead of cashing in on them. I don't I might be wrong. Feel free to let me know again in the YouTube comments or you guys to tell me as well. I don't think we're ever going to get to a point really where and where Curtis plays every single game. I just don't think Liverpool I think Liverpool want better if I think Arnold particularly wants better. Jen Klopp probably wants it better. Curtis is a very good player but he's not going to play ahead of Grain B is here for the long term and that third role we're going to talk in part two about midfielders and Liverpool are being linked with. So if Curtis wants more minutes and won't sign the contract, you probably do have to sell him. But you don't, but then you are weakening your squad. Like there's no doubt about it.

[00:24:04]Curtis, he might not be in the club's best 11. He's certainly in the best 18 every week and he's he's certainly good enough. He played 2,000 odd minutes last season. This is where you can get yourself into a bit into a bit of a sticky situation because on one hand we're saying we can't sell everyone, but on the other hand, we've just had a godamn for letting for free. Like what you do, where'd you balance it out?

[00:24:21]>> That's exactly the point I was about to make. It was like we can't have it both ways. If we're saying no, get the money in and and don't let the contracts run down, but at the same time saying, well, no, because this this gives us more to do in the midfield. I think it's just come at a bit of an unfortunate time because like like I've said at the start and this is sort of the theme. It's we're giving ourselves more work because then you need to do something in the midfield. Now, I think you need to do something in the midfield anyway. Uh whether you need to do two now is if Curtis goes is is a different question.

[00:24:48]On top of that, we need to do at least two wingers. On top of that, whether Liverpool do or don't, I think we need to do a center half now. H on top of that, you have a keeper situation looming over us. On top of that, is Verge going to go next year? What about the fullbacks? Are they good enough? You know, it's it's an unfortunate time that we're giving ourselves a bit more work to do at a time where we've loads of work to do already. And anything that you can keep stable, I would ideally like us to do, but if he's just not going to sign the contract, he's just not going to sign the contract. And I think it's an interesting interesting case study. Curtis Jones, I think, since he first sort of came into the team, which was at the end of that uh title winning season during lockdown. We he comes in and um can't remember if he gets his his league win a medal in the end. Oh, no. Because you don't actually need to play five games anymore, but there was talk about it which showed that he was he was quite early on in his career at that time. Then he has his breakthrough season in the proper lockdown season. Um and since then, he's felt like he's the fourth midfielder um where there's three starting. Now, what that means is given injuries, given rotation, you're still going to see 30 40 games a season. But whether he wants to go somewhere and be the main man, I never felt like he quite did enough to break into that three where he starts every week. I think possibly the closest he got was last season around November.

[00:25:57]He scores the two goals against Chelsea or scores the second goal against Chelsea. He's in a bit of form. Sobasai is very much on the bench at that time and it's a bit like well if we a European Cup final tomorrow for me Jones starts over Sabasai but like Ian says whether it's an injury or whether it's a bit of a drop off in form or whether the team just needs something a little bit different he never feels like he's quite put his foot in the gas and and had that real strong form for three four months at a time which then you say right Curtis Jones is in our best midfield now and work the rest around it he's never quite made that step up um and who knows fresh uh fresh challenge whether it is Inter Milan and Syria. You could see that absolutely suiting his game. Um, you know, he's been at Liverpool since god knows how long. Um, big pressure.

[00:26:41]Obviously, his he lives here, his family's from here. He's surrounded by all the time. It was just that different environment going away to Milan. Um, fresh set of fresh set of eyes for those supporters as well. You could absolutely see a world in which Curtis Jones is starting for England in two years. Um, but right now he's not. And, uh, you know, if he if he does go, good luck to him. But um at the same time if he starts next season as our fourth or fifth choice I think well that is keeping something stable where we haven't been able to really keep anything stable >> on that. Sorry mate just quickly on it in terms of the fee according to Sky Sports in Italy um Liverpool asking for around 35 million pound for Curtis Jones up one year left um Intera reported offering 21 million pound roughly uh around 25 million euro there's reports that obviously Rich has already been um in meetings with uh the his counterpart of Inter Milan like at some point there is a number where it's worth selling Kes Jones and At some point there's a number where you go actually are we better just stop having him for a year and losing him for free and that's a really and again and you have to swallow that pill when you get to it. I'm not sure even I think 35 is on the border line of >> I think you say 25 >> I think 20 million pound is low and it's a bit like but you just have to take it at that point that's where it gets a bit difficult where you get to these contract situations.

[00:27:58]>> I think Curt Jones is worth more than 20 million pound per person. If you look at the fees that people are knocking around for in in European football that feels quite low. Um, I don't think Italian clubs are blessed with cash either. Um, I know there's been talks of spares.

[00:28:12]Everyone's going to spares at the minute. Maybe Aston Villa as well whether that ever comes to fruition, but there's the Liverpool have got to get good money for Kurt if they're going to sell them. Otherwise, again, at what point you just go, you know what, we might as well just keep them. And that's another issue with the club. Just something we used to be really good. I was getting good fees for players. Like we'd have we'd have youngsters that come on play about five games and we sell for 20 million quid. Now we're looking at 20 quid for the fellow who's played for England because we want more. That's what they want to pay. But that's what they want to pay. But I mean it it's just something just doesn't seem right, does it? A transfers in and out. Um and what I was going to say before we started talking about the fears, I know he's got minutes, but how many of them minutes without right back? I mean, he wouldn't want to been playing at right back, would he? That that's something else probably why he's looking at going somewhere else because he doesn't want to play out of position. Um I I think the magic number will probably be about 25 million. I think Liverpool and go there. That's what I think.

[00:29:08]>> Yeah, it depends how much again and it's kind of in kids. The ball isn't kind of in K's court. It depends how hard he pushes for moving and is he happy to just go listen I'll do another year and go for free then then you might have to again someone's got to call someone's bluff. It will be fascinating what they what they do in the Kurt Jones situation. As it stands, it looks like he's probably heading out the door. And there's another there's 2,000 odd minutes you've got to replace, including Mosal's minutes, Ibu Canate's minutes, Andy Robbo's minutes before Andy, you even consider getting better. You've got to replace those lads and and then try and make improvements. That's a lot of work in one summer again like you've touched upon before.

[00:29:42]>> Yeah, it is. Um I think we'll probably need to do one anyway. Uh who knows what's happening with Alexis Mallister.

[00:29:48]I mean, there's been no firm links away, but I mean he can't throw in another season like he did last year. Is it worth sort of cashing in on him at this stage? Again, that's another player you have to bring in. Um, and even sort of like, and I don't want to come on to talk about Wharton, but even if you bring someone like Wharton in, well, that doesn't really solve the legs issue in the midfield as well, where we've been um sort of nowhere near the nowhere near the ball at times in the midfield this season. Like, who's that player that's got to cover that ground and put those tackles in? Again, that's another thing you have to do. Um, I do think to be fair and I know this is very sort of uh something Liverpool would would throw on the end of a a piece that they would brief if they didn't feel like they were going to get somebody in. I do think that at some stage train is is going to come in and play some more minutes. So like I know that his his his people and and his agents are sort of very protective over him. They don't want him sort of doing loads of media. They don't want him sort of getting a bit getting ahead of himself at all. So, you know, I understand that there's like nowhere near the hype about Trey None as there is, for example, Rioimo who throws himself into everything and and fair play to him, by the way. Um, but I think with None, because his people have sort of kept such a lid on the on the hype uh around him, I think we actually have a much better player there than than some people think. And when he comes on against Brenford, I think he plays really really well. There's some line splitting passes. He's he's quick and he makes a really good tackle at one stage.

[00:31:13]So I'd like to keep an eye on him in preseason and see if he can come in and do something as well. But yeah, like we don't want to necessarily rely on that as a replacement for Curtis and Mallister. We need players in and like I say, we already need lots of players in in lots of positions anyway.

Uh report from last week almost now Ian from David Dornstein. Yandandy Mandi is a leading target for Liverpool. PSG are also among the sutors but Liverpool are firm contenders and in a strong position with the 19year-old RB Lipig winger and if the player deal looks doable club to club talks will follow. Um since then it's been a little bit up and down on the Monday stuff but I mean it's been the name that has constantly been linked with Liverpool for a while. So you you would think there is some fire to all the smoke that's happening. Young kid, very very inexperienced, but he's had a really good season. Profiles very well.

[00:33:13]Potentially expensive. Um but this does feel like at this moment in time if you're talking like if you were ranking the solidness of links, Diamande feels like the most concrete of them.

[00:33:24]>> Yeah. Um I really really like them. My only my only concern is the league he's playing in. um basically because V has come from there. F Pong's come from there and to different degrees they both seem to struggle this year and Lewis Diaz has gone over there and look like Prime Madonna. So that's my only concern. He looks quick, he looks strong. I like the fact that he can go inside and outside. Um he looks like he works his ass off, which is something we've lacked seriously this season. Um, all all looks good. All looks very good.

[00:34:02]I look I like the fact he can play on both wings as well and he can go central if needed. We need some flexibility up front with up in the attacking areas.

[00:34:10]We've got too many players that can only like play one can play like Isach's not going to play left wing or right wingers. He ech although we can he's he's a number nine. He's a central striker. So we need someone who can play multiple roles and I get the from what I'm watching from the mande.

[00:34:26]I'm excited. Apparently Man City entered enter entered the race yesterday which was like ah so see how it goes.

[00:34:35]>> The fact that again he can play on both sides is an advantage and certainly is but my guess is Liverpool if they're going to s and they're going to spend upwards of what 100 million pound or euros whatever we'll see what their fee ends up being that might be a little bit inflated. It suggest he's coming in to start and therefore he's probably going to be the right hand side. He's going to be effectively the guy who takes Moe's place in the team. He last season, according to transfer, Mark, he played right wing 22 times, left wing 10. So he's he's clearly capable of of doing both in the Bundesliga.

[00:35:06]It's a lot of it's a lot to ask of a 19-y old kid to come in and replace one of the greatest ever Premier League players, and that would be harsh on him, but it feels like he he's got the game at least that he profiles as someone who Liverpool could do with having pace, scores a goal, can create versatile as well. He does tick a lot of those boxes, but again, the risk factor comes in the age, the he's done it for effectively one one big season. And the fact that that is potentially going to cost you somewhere 80 plus million quid shows what the market is. Like at some point you you're going to have to take gamble.

[00:35:37]Almost everything's a gamble unless you're spending upwards of 150 million pound. You probably are taking a chance on something somewhere.

[00:35:43]>> Yeah, I think pace does genuinely solve a lot of Liverpool's problems. Certainly not all of them by any stretch of the imagination. But how many times last season did we see teams just push 20 yards up the pitch knowing that we are not going to get able not been going to be able to get up the pitch ourselves and that leads to like 10 15 minutes of pressure on our goal. I think if you have that option to just sort of ping one in behind and get someone like a D Mande running on to it. I think that that does actually solve a lot of problems because they have to push back then bit more space for the midfield.

[00:36:15]Um, I think everyone just looks a bit better in that in that case. And there's nothing I hate more than watching a Liverpool team without pace in it. I think in the always go back to the Europa League final in 2016. Urglo worked a miracle getting that team to the Europa League final because at times it was a front three of Firmino, Coutinho, Lana. Sometimes Sturridge was in there, but Sturridge didn't have the pace that he had when he first came in.

[00:36:35]Um, and it was just so hard to watch and it's so difficult to to to play a game without having that option of pace in behind. Um, and Liverpool so often this season haven't had that. So I think Diamande coming in and I do think we'll need another. It can't just be him. At least one more by the way who needs to be quick as well. Um he will offer us that but he's so much more than that.

[00:36:55]He's he's you look at his and it is just YouTube highlights but I mean you see what style of player they are. Um and he's very two-footed you know he's he's very sort of close control. Um can take it can pass can finish with either foot.

[00:37:07]Um and that's really really exciting.

[00:37:08]The only thing is I'm like I'm sure in an ideal world, Liverpool don't want to be spending 80 plus million on a 19-year-old with only one season of senior football under his belt. But if he's the next big thing, he's just got to go and do it and take that risk because like I say, you're going to have to do at least one more anyway, maybe that could be a bit of a more of a sure thing like uh I don't know if Barcola is going to be on the market, but somebody like that or even you know, it's not going to happen now, but Anthony Gordon, who you know has Premier League experience and and has pace and is a bit older, he can't be the only thing we do.

[00:37:38]can't be what we hang our hat on. We have to be prepared for him to have a a spell of two or three months next season where he isn't that that that all-encompassing fantastic winger because that's what young players do.

[00:37:48]But for me, the numbers look amazing. 10 goals, 13 assists last year. I mean, for a 19-year-old, that's not to be sniffed at, and that's very, very rare in one of the top five leagues. I know I says about the Bundesliga, and I understand that, but it's still bloody impressive for a 19year-old. Um, so if if if you think he's the next big thing, go and get it done. and uh and that you know that really is succession planning, isn't it?

[00:38:10]>> Again, I go back to the to the start team because we told the actual story itself from David Os you would suggest at that point. Again, not guaranteed, but there's clearly interest that this isn't just like some random place making a name just to get clicks or or whatever you you know imagine David's well you know David's stories are pretty well sourced. Are you surprised that Liverpool's potential and again I agree and there might be more coming in but it feels like he's the priority one. He's probably the most expensive. Li people are going to sign a couple of forwards.

[00:38:38]I doubt he t him hands someone more expensive. You might go I mean I don't know what Barker for example would cost maybe you know there's links to like the likes of Jared Bowen as as a more of a stop cap these kind of things as name touted around as well for Liverpool to spend that big money on a lad again he played 30 odd league games in Germany last year before that I think he played 10 or so in in La Liga the year before.

[00:39:01]I mean, it's a small sample size for him to be the one who you go right at him.

[00:39:05]It even suggests you don't think the market's particularly great. Um, and maybe the maybe Anthony Gordon going for 70 million pounds is an idea that Liverpool where they're at with that one because I'm sure he would have been at least of interest. Like their main guy, look at their targeting is a young 19-year-old kid with about 50 to maybe 50 games of of senior football. I mean that that's quite shocking for a team who who us you probably want the bigger sample size than that.

[00:39:32]>> Yeah. And it looks like they've had their eye on him for a while as well.

[00:39:36]This this isn't just like >> we had his name all year.

[00:39:39]>> Yeah. It's it's it's so even before they got those 50 games in. So someone they've been looking at for a while. Um as we've seen with the money we spent last summer, there's no such thing as a sure thing in football anymore. If you can't go out and buy a play and go, "Yeah, he's exactly going to land on his feet and he's going to get us 20 goals, 30 assists." Doesn't happen like that anymore. Every every player you bring in now is going to be a risk. Um, but they've got to be calculated risk because like you've just said, he's not going to do it on his own. We've got Isach there who for all his qualities, even before he broke his leg, he looked like he couldn't get fit. So, do we need to look at a central striker as well?

[00:40:20]That's what we need to look at.

[00:40:22]>> So that would be tough I think would given because you can't replace echk because he's going to come back. So it is difficult I suppose what we it's worth mentioning on the on the demand thing Andy as well like Leipig always do this thing of we don't want to sell him but they are they do they can drive a hard bargain because you know he's under contract he's only been there a year they they do hold all the chips. He said in an interview recently himself then they obviously >> yeah but obviously he wouldn't mind the move which suggest where he's at. I imagine when Lipick buy a player, they know the score, what what they do and it's what they do.

[00:40:51]>> Um, but it it it does feel like it Liverpool are in for him, but I don't think you're going to get a lad on the cheap like will drive a hard bargain.

[00:40:59]There's talk, you know, he's having an issue with his agency. He's changed agents. It feels very messy. Liverpool can't afford to be dragged into some massive saga which results in not having enough wingers for the start of the season.

[00:41:11]This one whilst it's clear the interest is there, it doesn't look as straightforward of a transfer as you'd like it to be. Whereas, for example, Barcelona have just went to sign Anthony Danny Gordon. That was relative. They they set the feed. They had the wages done. It was done. Liverpool don't really want to be getting themselves into another messy transfer saga because they got they got into one of those with Marhee last year. Didn't obviously end up biting them in their ass. They can't really they haven't got enough options as it stands to be dragged into another one. No, the only thing you would say is we do seem to have a good relationship with Leipig. There's obviously been a lot of deals done across the years between both clubs. We obviously get Nabi from there, don't we? Um, I can come from there. I'm sure there's more that I've uh that are escaping my mind right now, but it feels like Liverpool and Leipzig have that good relationship where, you know, neither party are going to are going to take the mick in terms of of, you know, driving a ridiculous price or, you know, trying to trying to underhand somebody on the on the cheap.

[00:42:04]Um it feels like both clubs have have the best interest at heart and it feels like sort of it suits Lipig's model to be able to sell for good money to a team like Liverpool and and reinvest that as they seem to be very well able to do. I it it's slightly concerning for me and it is only reports but it's reports from the likes of who we know we know you know is well sourced and know their stuff. Um it felt the first report that came out about a week ago was that Liverpool are in the driving seat and PSG are there just in case anything falls apart and now it feels like well Liverpool and PSG are both very much in for him and it's the players decision.

[00:42:37]Um, and this is just another sort of a a bit of a wider thing for me and I know we don't want to don't want to necessarily do the manager because it looks like he's going to stay going into next season. But even if you know Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards are sticking with slot and they're right and there was so much sort of mitigation for this season and he is the man and he is good enough well are players who are going to come in are they seeing that or are they sort of thinking well this is a guy sort of 12 months left in his contract if he goes next summer or even goes like early in the season well is the next manager going to fancy me should I just go to PSG and should I just work under Louis Enrique I mean these are bound to be things that these players are thinking and that uncertainty and that instability is concerning for me in general. eneral even if I'm wrong and I want Ernest Lot to go even if I'm wrong and he and he is the right man are are our transfer targets seeing that are the players in the club right now seeing that um and that's a bit concerning for me in terms of building a a really good team for next year.

[00:43:32]>> Yeah, there's a lot of Yeah, manager with one one year to go on his contract and stuff like that. We let us know your thoughts guys on on Yandi and Mandy and yeah would you like to sign and do you think it's going to get done? I I would predict probably yes, but but I've again you never know with the film. You never know. Um let's move on then. Final topic of the show, guys. It's been a good one so far. Let's uh let's end on another banger of a chat. I'm sure we will. Um report yesterday from BBC, Sammy Mockbell. Obviously is very tied in with Crystal Palace. He he is the main man when it comes to Crystal Palace, the friend of the show. Uh report that Liverpool and Manchester United are known to be um among the admirers of Adam Wharton. However, Crystal Palace feel they are in a strong position to keep the Wolves from the door for at least one more season given that Wharton's contract still has three years left to run on it. Uh Palace are also open to offering Adam Wharton an improved deal. Um at this stage it's unclear whether the midfielder is keen to engage in that given he knows there is interest from elsewhere. He had a really good game in in a final which only further highlighted Adam Morton's um his profile. This is another one where it feels like Liverpool have clearly identified what's a good player.

[00:44:38]Not going to be easy to get him. I mean, we know we've got past experience never easy dealing with Steve Parish and Crystal Palace. Um, lots of teams will want Adam Warton as well.

[00:44:48]>> How high up the list do you think Adam Warton is in terms of potential midfield options and and where do you rate him?

[00:44:54]>> I think he's very very good. I think if you're going to bring him in, know, you need to bring somebody else in because I think he's very much a Zabonzo type player. Alex Zabonzo is really good if he's got a mascarano next to him or a sissoko, somebody's going to do the kicking and the running for him. He will make time and space for himself and he'll find a good pass, but I don't think he's the most athletic and he doesn't move as quickly as you'd like a player Liverpool player to move. Um, so if you're bringing in Wharton, I think you're going to have to bring in another player, another center of midfielder to get what you need to happen in that midfield. Me other thing that might be a good thing for us is him not getting going to the World Cup because that might make him think, listen, if I was playing for a bigger club because let's be honest, he's had an incredible season. There's not he should have gone he should have gone to the World Cup for me. Does he think, listen, if I'm wearing a United shirt or a man I'm wearing a Liverpool shirt, am I one of the first names on that plane?

[00:45:56]That that could be one of the things he's thinking of now. That could have really turned his head. Um, so I I think I'd have him, but I think he needs to be one of two midfield signings.

[00:46:06]>> In terms of budget, talking about we spoke before, Andy again, don't don't even know what Adam Warren would cost, but we know because the Palace aren't going to sell cheap. He's got three years left on his contract. He's a young English player. Elliot Anderson's reportedly worthund a million pound and I imagine Crystal Palace might be using that as some type of benchmark whether he Anderson goes to City or Manchester United. It feels like they're both in that mix. Like this is not going to be um yeah this is not going to be a cheap deal if Liverpool want to sign Adam Walton and Yandandy Mande and then we still think they need another winger and other things. That is a huge huge chunk.

[00:46:39]the transfer kitty would almost have to be as large as it was last season and again it might be we just don't know where Liverpool are at there will be supplements of course with sales you've lost the wages now of Canate Salah and Robertson which isn't nothing I'm sure that that adds up a lot but all of a sudden if you're looking at Liverpool trying to get these level of players in it does feel like that Adam Morton is going to cost you a big old chunk of money as well on top of what we think Liverpool might have to spend if they want Yandandy Mande >> yeah I would love to see Adam Morton in Liverpool shirt he's one of my favorite players in the league to watch. I think he's a glorious footballer. Is is incisive, quick forward passing, is it's it's so easy in the eyes. One of I honestly think he's one of the most aesthetically pleasing footballers in the league. Um I I agree with the point in his athleticism. He's not a I don't know. He's not an anglo. He's going to cover every single blade of grass and hammer these tackles in. I don't think he's a slug either. do think he would be a bit of an upgrade on last season last season Mallister in that respect, but again he's not like exactly what will he in that in that in terms of that side of things. I don't think Adam Morton could be the only midfield signing we make regardless of whether Curtis Jones stays or not because it doesn't solve that problem of like legs in the midfield really. Um, now whether you if you've got two really really quick wingers on either side who are stretching the game and opening that up, maybe that helps her midfield get the front foot a little bit more and maybe they've less work to do and maybe that problem sort of solves itself. But I can just imagine. Um, not that I want a destroyer like a Joah Palin who hammers into tackle brilliant that side of the game but can't pass the ball five yards. I don't want that either, but I want sort of something in between. And Wharton feels he's very much in that end of the spectrum whereas Pellini's on that end. Um, so I think if you got him, you need to do one more.

[00:48:24]But like you say, if you're outlaying Wharton's 80, 90 million. Well, how much you going to be paying for the midfielder that you actually really need to solve the problem we've got right now? That would be a concern for me. Um, so yes, if we signed him, I'd talk myself into it because I love watching him. I'd love to watch him, you know, paying my money to go go to Anfield every other week, but doesn't make bucket loads of sense in terms of what we need right now. Could we leave him there another year? Potentially price goes down. then you've you've you know he's bit of a more justification to go knocking on the door saying look I'm a top level player I've played for you for 3 four years now let me go and feels to me something that that might just happen in a year or two's time rather than now >> I think he's brilliant and I think Liverpool could do with him because we need someone who can get the one of the big I mean there's tons of issues we mentioned before lack of pace whatever Liverpool's buildup play that year was shocking we had no clue how to get the ball to the front three like every whoever played up front just didn't get the ball >> um Morton just play for he is that progressive through the lines passer.

[00:49:22]Our our best through the lines passer is actually Vande. Yeah.

[00:49:25]>> And he does it by playing through the first press into into Gravenber or whatever but so often it was out wide full back kicking up the line to the winger and hope the winger can hold it up and do something from there. There was no plan really to get through the middle. I think so I think Walton would be in my opinion I think he's very much needed. I would let I think replacing Alexis in the team is right. Does it solve all of Liverpool issues? No. But it doesn't solve the without the ball issues, but it definitely solves I think it goes a long way into solving the on the ball issues. And both are again the fact that both are issues shows why Liverpool had a tough season and ultimately end up finishing fifth in the league. They need to be better with and without the ball. So you might be right.

[00:50:02]They might have to go both ways around this one. But I think there is definitely value in having someone. If you say my midfielder all of a sudden becomes sasly verts and wart you can you're asking so do a lot of running you are and I understand that but you are at least you've got lads there who can who can play footy because and can get the ball to these and you include vert in this lipo spends the best part of 300 million pound on forwards someone's got to get them the ball like and he feels like he could be the man who can who can who can at least do that a bit of that >> I think if you bring you bring in then you have to go and do a little bit of bargain hunting. I think maybe going to look at the look at the teams have gone down. Maybe look at Emanuel Fernandez or Xiao Gomez to support him in the midfield.

[00:50:44]>> Oh, if you if you said to me you can have Fernandez and Walton for a combined like a million pound, I'd bite your hand off of that.

[00:50:50]>> And and I think that would work. I understand that would work. Even Joe Gomez at um Wolves, I think I think he's a really good player and he's the type of player that will help Wharton because if we're going to bring Wharton in, if you put him in the midfield we've got now, he's not going to improve anything.

[00:51:05]We might get the ball to strikers a little bit quicker, but what's going on around them, he he's going to spend most of his time putting fires out cuz that's what our midfielders are doing now. We need we need we need athleticism in there. Like I said, he's not he's not a slug, but he's not going to run right now. He's not going to stop transitional breaks. He's not he's not that type of guy. He's not going to do it. He's going to need people who's going to do that to him. And he he needs to get people the ball, but we also need to get Whartalon the ball.

[00:51:32]>> We need to get the ball to Walton.

[00:51:34]>> And and I think just to circle right the way back around as well, like the point you make there about passing through the lines and getting our front players in the ball. I think I think such an important one. I think you look at Liverpool's midfield right now and I think those were the two issues really sort of legs and and getting somebody with a real defensive mind in the number six to make those tackles when we need to and passing through the lines. But if you just watch it, the one that is glaringly obvious is the legs of midfield because you can very clearly see in the pitch these midfielders in loads of space every game. Graphenberg sort of nowhere near it because he's not that type of player. Um but actually that the you just sort of watch the football build up and end up feeling really frustrated. you could be forgiven for not actually realizing actually we need somebody to pass through the lines.

[00:52:14]We have got like three or four players on our teams. You can't do that. So obviously I can't do it by the way. Um and and ju just to just to circle it right the way back around. It could be an interesting sort of thing that they've looked at with Kenate. I mean Kenate on the ball isn't very good. Um he is big and he's strong. and you playing the halfway line and when he gets dragged out to right back one-on-one, he's really, really comfortable, which is rare for a center half and he's got all these abilities which are fantastic, but he can't pass through the lines. And if we've got midfielders who can't pass through the lines as well, and then we end up just not being able to get the ball to our center forwards. So maybe they're sort of thinking, well, actually there's a big problem that I can do and he's not going to learn at this stage of his career. We'll let him go and we'll get these guys in. So um yeah, if if if they let Kate go and get Wharton, maybe that's the the line of travel they're going down. You've got to be you have to be very careful a midfield because again you need options. It's worth mentioning you've got don't worry about who starts you need but you need players but >> it would be very I think if you went away to Arsenal with a midfield of Walton Grainburg yikes you know you know you might need to be you probably just need something in there. Obviously Sosai would is around and he's definitely going to be on on the on the team she's in. It just feels like say I think there is a world actually where and we we'll see how it goes. Jones leaves and Mallister potentially if someone buys him leaves and then you do go and buy one of each.

[00:53:30]you go and buy a lot with legs you can get about the place you know is a Kamar from Monaco I've seen his name linked a little bit I haven't seen too much is another one being linked and then you get and then you can kind of get the best of both worlds that might be what Liverpool need to do because at this moment in time I actually think we've got a lot of lads who are who are in the middle like no one's really that vert in theory is the one who's all out attack that's all he cares about get let him do that the rest of them are all like no one's really defensive minded it's a very attack-minded team but they're just not great at it. Loads last year they weren't great at it.

[00:54:03]>> So if you go and sign Walton, you do probably then have to go like you said someone's got to come in whose first job is listen stop can team stop running through the middle of our pitch because I was fed up last year of teams running through the middle of our pitch. It's the defenders must be thinking please don't have vort and ling because oh my god Steve that's a great idea until I'm getting like 15 lads running at me every single 15 minutes.

[00:54:25]>> Yeah. Yeah. And another thing as well, I know we're talking about the transfer showing up, but it sort of comes down to a bit of coaching as well. Like last year, the midfielders look like complete strangers.

[00:54:35]>> You looked like you'd have Sabosla, you' be pressing and you're looking behind them pressing with them. They all look like they were being managed by a different manager each midfielder that that is something like slot staying. We need to like start from scratch, clean slate, and everybody needs to know what they're doing. Whatever new players come in, whatever old ones are staying, we all need to find a way that the midfield's going to play and they're all going to play the same way. Because if you bring players in, but we're doing the same things we did as last season, you're just throwing money down the D.

[00:55:09]>> Yeah, Liverpool absolutely will have to have to change, aren't they? Again, by by all accounts on the slots, um whether you think that's right or wrong, and everyone's got opinions on that one, the it's going to be him get who gets these players. he's going to be the one who who's going to have to make them play better. You know, last season he he definitely obviously made he made a lot of mistakes. That's and you know, loads of things went against Liverpool and that happened as well. You know, you hope that things don't go as bad against them and therefore the coach has to coach them as well. And I do that is something that we we're going to have to all get our heads around and we're going to start wrapping up there. We do have some super chats very quickly to get to.

I'm not even sure how involved he is because he was meant to be brought into he he doesn't work for Liverpool but he worked for FSG the second club was >> Richard is the man who's like it is I don't know how I don't even know where Michael Edward fits in this whole thing because he was there to run the multi club that's now fell through so he was almost like redundant in his role so we goes and John John don't feel lost I feel lost this summer with the manager the players and the squad don't feel down John it's all it'll all be I mean it might not be fun it absolutely might not be fine but don't don't Feel sad now. There's no point being sad now. You might as well get sad in the summer when it happens.
