The video cleverly uses a sensationalist hook to deliver a sophisticated lecture on mechanical synergy and component matching. It proves that true performance is a result of calculated precision rather than just throwing expensive parts at an engine.

Dyno Day Ends in Disaster...Added:
Welcome back to the channel, everybody.
We are at Link Japan's headquarters and Daiki's car is strapped into the hub dyno. Today, we're going to find out how much power it makes and we've been fixing gremlins along the way. Like what's a dyno day for a comp car without that? So, let's get into it. We're getting that base fuel pressure set on a Dishworks regulator. We're setting our base pressure to four bar. We're using Dishworks' 1500 cc injectors with their fuel rail kit, lines, everything from front to back is Dishworks.
And uh we're getting everything set up.
Gosh, I love this stuff. This is the same fuel setup we have on my car.
Here we go.
Running.
The only difference with my car is we're trying on this one Dishworks' um surge tank for the fuel cell. So, it's like this whole thing here. It's really cool.
Comes with this nice little cap here, which we're going to eventually make something custom to put it here for him, but for now this is fine.
Let's go.
Oh, she sounds good. Now, before I got here, Fujitsubo has already bedded in the rings and everything, so we should be good. We should be good.
Now, we are in an industrial area. In fact, the port is like right over there, the ocean and everything's there. So, you don't have to be super quiet here, um but obviously Fujitsubo still has a huge muffler setup. This thing's kind of cool cuz it actually like is upright and loops through and then out.
There's like hardly anything coming out of here. Most of it is actually from around the exhaust pipe there. It's a bit of a leak cuz it's not perfectly sealed.
That way we can at least still get a nice sound of what the car sounds like.
But pretty much every dyno in Japan, unless you're in the middle of woop woop, I mean even the one we go to at Ion has a huge muffler like this.
Sounds so good.
Oh, I love it.
>> [music] >> So far, inner cooler feels all right.
We'll have this thing running in a bit if we need it.
Getting set up.
Oh, I'm excited.
I can't wait to see what this does with a stock intake manifold, especially being that this is the JDM one, the smaller one.
Nervous?
Yeah.
I love it.
Woah, ho, ho.
First sound of gate, baby.
Sheesh.
That little baby pull.
Oh, good afternoon.
But it just made 550. 550.
Oh, man.
I can't wait to see what this thing's going to do.
So far, sounding really good.
So, that little baby pull, we made pretty much 550 and that was only 1.1 bar of boost. So, we're already past what your SR made in torque and power cuz that's 80 kgm of torque at 4400 rpm. Crazy. Crazy, right?
>> Yeah. I'm changing to the boy.
I'll come back to the shop. His SR is going to be in the trash.
>> Oh my god.
>> No, no, no, no. We got a special place for that.
Nice.
Woo.
First real pull.
Look at that heat. Oh, she's glowing.
Look at that RT Manny.
Nice.
685, baby.
685.
No 67?
But look, already close to 100 kgm of torque.
Look at this curve. So good. Look, 3500.
Like what 4000 mark? Look at it all.
Dude, this this lights up so early. This is what I'm telling, the 100 mil stroke crank, Tomei 3.6 with high comp and the G40. Look at this response. It's so good.
Yeah. And look at the torque. From 3000 to 4000, look at all that. Just bam.
Woo.
Making power.
Checking over everything in the rear.
We're looking good.
Woah.
That shot. Boom.
Dude, that's wild, eh?
All right.
So, it already made 800.
800 horsepower.
121 kgm of torque.
What the flip, dude?
Dude, this thing is crazy. The mid-range gain with the stock manifold is nuts.
Daiki, in my hot jacket? Yeah.
That's wild.
Absolutely crazy.
I'm super impressed with all the mid-range that this has. Now, obviously stock intake manifold's going to be a big part of that, but also this thing has much smaller cams than what my car has. My car has these custom Tomei ones that are very, very big. This has like 264 HKS cams in it and you'll see that the torque kind of comes up and then just starts to just say goodbye. It's an interesting torque curve, but the way that boost comes on and all that kind of stuff in the mid-range response, this thing's going to be have a pretty big advantage of getting off the line quick and all that kind of stuff. So, I think it's going to be quite controllable and good, but we can obviously change out the cams if we need to in the future.
But I just want to show, see if we still have it up there. Oh, yeah, you can still see the previous runs.
You can see what I mean where we make our peak torque and then you can see it just starts going down very rapidly. As in my dyno graph is a little bit more linear and like flatter across here once it makes its peak torque, kind of just hangs there up nice and high.
Um his mid-range though is wild. I would say it's about 500 rpm sooner than my car, purely just because I'm also running uh like a Plazmaman intake manifold short runner and high flow.
But it's not hindering me in any way whatsoever. It's a 3.6 and I've also got higher compression ratio than this motor as well. This is about 9 to 8, maybe 9 9 10 with the shaved head. My pistons are custom made to 10 to 1 and with my shaved head we're sitting at like 10 to 5.
So, I really cannot wait till I get the opportunity to maybe build an even higher compression engine cuz I think we could even go like 11 to 1 with the Tomei 3.6 and it'll probably perform even better than what we currently have. I just love the fact that we don't need nitrous.
Oh, looks like we're going again.
Sheesh.
Yeah, the little flame, that was cool.
Oh, 818.
121 kgm.
It's looking good.
It's wild. My car at this boost cuz we're at two bar, my car would be 1100.
It's so different.
I wonder if the intake manifold is restricting it in any way.
Interesting.
It's probably also the cams not letting it breathe as well.
We've just been looking at my dyno results and the torque difference is wild how it just like holds the torque and keeps it quite level and then the power, too.
But I think what we're going to do is try to get one of the American surge tanks.
If we can get one of those USDM upper plenums, I think we'll be sitting pretty. Just a bigger upper plenum, I think will make all the difference.
This thing is going to be a monster regardless. All that mid-range is nuts.
Woo!
Sounds crazy good.
Gosh.
I was really hoping for like 900-plus today for him. But I I guess I didn't know the cams were only 264s. We can get some bigger cams, I think that'll help, but then we still need to do something with that plenum, I think. A little bit of a bigger chamber on the top will be nice. I could modify that one, but we'll see. I'll experiment a little.
Hey.
I don't think you need any lag with how responsive this is.
Yeah. It's going to be crazy.
Can't really hear the any lag too well just cuz of the big muffler.
But dang, man, this thing's spicy.
What's up? Oh, oh, we got it? His bonnet got stuck on the roof. Is it okay? Uh little red there.
I haven't seen that happen before.
All right. Well, we're done. 820 was the number.
I think we've got some homework to do. I think we change the cams to a little bit bigger, and then the JDM intake plenum being so small, I think we try to get a USDM one or a custom billet upper one and see what we can work with. Or I'll modify the stock one.
Well, it's time to load this thing up on the truck. We're done for today.
I just want to show you guys. I'm glad we changed that rear tailpipe because now we have all that clearance.
And uh Daiki already like when he took it for alignment and stuff, it didn't scrape on anything. So, I think we should be good there.
Well, Daiki, you happy? Yeah, I'm very happy. Nice.
Do you think uh 818 horsepower is enough for you for now?
That's good. I think we'll hit the 950.
We may need to make a few little changes, but for round one, I think you'll be sorted.
I'm excited. I can't wait to see you drive this. You're driving tomorrow, right?
>> Yeah, I'm driving tomorrow.
>> All right. I'm going to try my best to go see him drive and put a clip in here.
If I can't go, though, will Emma go with you? Yeah. I'll get Emma to shoot some videos for me, and I'll put it in the video so you guys can see, but I'm very excited. Man, it's going to be good. And it looks like the intercooler actually IATs were pretty good. We did have the fan running on it, and we did a few runs without the fan. It seems pretty good, this intercooler, so I'm surprised. I think it's going to do well. Worst case, we'll set up a water sprayer.
I was a little worried that maybe this was going to pop open, but it looks like it's thick enough. The welds on there, I don't know who did that before, but it's fine.
All right, dude. We'll go kill them, all right?
Yay!
The next day.
This is Daiki's first lap in his pro car. He did a bit of maintenance in the car park, changed oil and things like that, but he's going in. He's going to go nice and kind of slow and easy. You can see, not like a big crazy [music] flick, but he's just kind of feeling out the car.
He's looking good, though. Car's got a lot of angle, making good smoke, flicking quite well, but you can kind of see as he finishes a corner, he's straightening out the wheel a fair bit.
And he did tell me that he was dealing with a lot of weird steering bind issue.
Later we found out his knuckle was getting stuck on the lower arm and doing some weird stuff, but you'll see in a little bit.
But unfortunately, his second lap out, this happens.
>> [screaming] >> The clips that you just saw, absolutely insane. Daiki is very shaken up, but um we have his car back at the shop.
Luckily, there was no crazy damage to the oil pan or the front subframe or anything like that, so we were able to kind of get the car sorted and fixed.
But one thing you're going to notice is we went back to the angle kit stuff that he has. Now, what happened is he he was convinced by a friend or something, I'm not entirely sure, but he bought this stuff that's essentially a cheap China knockoff of Wisefab V2. I did kind of tell him not to mess with it, and it's better to just get the proper stuff or get a Just Kit cuz I prefer Just Engineering. Um but long story short, uh there's no left and right for these arms. They're apparently identical, but this just kept getting stuck on here with the 70Β° of camber that he put on, and it got so stuck that the entire power steering system just locked up and the pump failed, and he went straight off track and up the wall. So, I've never seen this happen ever before. Like I don't know what the story is, and then I found online that apparently even with the Wisefab V2, people put this in a press and like bend it so that it doesn't bind on the top knuckle part.
And this is just a straight copy by the looks of it. Like I I've never seen this stuff in my life, but a friend of Daiki's kind of just like sold it to him cheap, and yeah. Anyways, so I was like, let's not use this. Let's go back to what he knows. We put his knuckles back on there that he used in lights, so he'll be able to compete. You can see the old livery's coming off. The car's getting wrapped, I think, tomorrow.
But after talking to him about pedal feel and stuff, we couldn't get any of the cold pads that I recommend for him to use. Um so, he's at Yashio Factory right now, and Okachan's letting him borrow a big brake kit for this car. So, he's going to just put some endless um like six-pot rotors, similar size to like my Neo Tech ones. That way, he'll be good.
His round one is in like 2 days, which is insane. It's crazy how much he's going through the the compartment of the 3 years you had experience, and he's going through it in like 3 days.
>> [laughter] >> Yeah. Yeah. A lot's happened in the engine bay, too. He's gone and just kind of, you know, jerry-rigged up the extinguisher requirement stuff in here.
I put my old 1J oil cap on there cuz he's got stock valve covers. Um he's got a catch can in there. He's just thrown everything together with the amount of time he had left and everything and the test day. He got two laps done. Two laps. And he's using >> my spare power steering pump now. He's going to bolt that in today. It's not bolted in yet. Um I rewired that in there, so that should be good. It's a brand like a pretty much refurbished unit. I took his one out that's been damaged by the Wisefab thing. Actually, it looks a little bent, the lower arm, so I don't know if it came bent or if it got bent in that crash, but regardless, we're back to what he knows, and and that's the main thing, and with short amount of time, there was just It took me, I kid you not, guys, 3 years to like really understand how to set up my big angle kit. Like it's not easy to learn how to set these up, and that's the crazy thing that like no one tells you about, and you get these crazy big angle kits, and it takes time before you figure out what you like and don't like and how to set them up so they feel good and natural. But yeah, anyways, that's that. Daiki's at Yashio right now, sweet-talking Okachan and helping him at the shop with a bunch of stuff at the moment. Um giving back to him so he can borrow the the brakes, but yeah. I'm excited for him. I wish he was here. He was supposed to be here, but Okachan needs his help, so >> [laughter] >> that's what's happened. And we're just packing right now, heading to Ebisu.
You'll probably notice there's no more Altezza in here. I love that we have some space. I can put the Supra back.
Um but yeah, things are getting hectic. The only Altezza that needs to go now is this. I think Riley's playing with uh this RC car that someone sent us an RC car.
It is freaking awesome. It's a like little all-wheel drive one. Yugo and uh Riley have been playing with it.
Oh, and Chris Rudnik's in town. No!
Wait, we about to do ice and my coffee time?
>> Yes, I got you. This is for you. Yeah, for you.
>> me ice cold coffee?
>> Yeah, it's like a Japanese tradition.
Like if you're hanging out with a friend, you got to bring them a coffee.
That's right.
>> I got you.
>> Yeah. Yeah, of course. Yeah. All right.
Here, mate. I know tradition. You know tradition? Yeah. That's is that's not because I taught you that this morning?
>> No, not at all. Going to do this with you. Everyone quiet.
Hey, you ready?
Yugo.
Ice and my coffee time with Yugo.
Yugo, what's wrong?
What's gone?
The corn soup's gone. Oh, the corn soup Oh my god. He's like We had corn soup in our vending machine, and he's upset that it's gone. Was [laughter] it the hot one?
>> Yeah. Yeah. Cuz it was winter just before. That's literally the best.
>> Dude, you got me the rainbow blend. If you're an OG, you know how much we used to drink this on the channel.
>> Yeah, I'm an OG. That's why I got you that one.
>> Ice coffee. Thank you. Of course. And when I leave, I'm going to get him another one cuz that's Japanese tradition.
>> Within um what, day day two of So, obviously Chris is back in town. I kid you not, day two of him being back.
We went to Yakiniku King, which is like a Korean barbecue place in Japan, right?
>> Yeah. And this time he didn't do 18 Caesar salads. I only did three, but I did swallow a fly. That's true.
Literally, >> [laughter] >> in between bites, this guy just a fly just gets inhaled straight in another piece of meat. It was the most It's crazy, too, cuz I eat food so fast, I literally didn't know that I swallowed the fly. Like Alyssa, my girlfriend, was just like, "You just swallowed a fly."
I'm like, "No, I didn't." Like so confident. 100% did. He was just like shoveling meat in and then he like took a moment, breathed, the fly went in, another piece of meat. And I was like, "That just happened."
>> We like our meat.
>> Rodnick's thing ever. Oh my god, dude.
Anyways, Chris is back in town and we're going to be obviously going to Drift Matsuri. We're about to start hit driving up there now, but what kind of content do you want to see us make together?
I Me crashing into him. Him not crashing into me.
>> I have a very slow car now. I hope it's slow. But I don't know.
>> Me too. So I can just and I love that.
>> I have the backup car and it's getting a full bash bar.
>> Me just sent me pictures or show me pictures of like the bash bar. Not good.
Yeah, the Burgin is going to be called the Burginator. Nope, not good. I don't like that. Please don't do that.
Anyways, so we feel that like during Matsuri time like Jimmy's coming and a few other people. So we don't want there to just be too much of the same content and we want to do something different.
So if you have any ideas, if there's something you want to see us do at Ebisu, any kind of challenge or anything, leave us a comment down below or you can also put your ideas in the subreddit. We have a bit of a threat going there right now.
I want a touge battle. You want a touge battle? I'm down. I think it's like low-key a little dangerous, but I think it'll be fun.
>> As long as you don't take the shortcut to PV.
Oh, no. That back corner >> If you understeer, you're going straight off the cliff.
>> Well, so I like touge short. Like you skip all of that.
Oh.
>> kind of just stay wide open around that big left.
>> are that you kind of like go in between, you go straight in. So instead of going right, you kind of continue that U. Ah, THAT IS SKETCH.
>> NO, THAT'S MY FAVORITE ONE.
>> NO, NO. I GET IT, but it's sketch if you don't know if there's someone else doing the full touge course, you just like come straight out.
>> yeah, you just wait until there's no one on the track at all.
>> Fair. Okay.
So I think we want to do a bunch of stuff like that or there's a Zero Fighter close by, too.
What is that?
>> abandoned Zero Fighter, like the old plane from World War II.
Can we fly it? No, it's it's like on the it's in the forest.
>> I want to see you >> of abandoned stuff we've been like researching and looking up and I think that would be cool to check out. But there's a ton of other stuff, too. So I don't know. Did you go in the jet? No, you can't. It's just on the side like in the forest thing. But anyways, like, comment, share, subscribe. I'm glad that Daiki is okay. Put a prayer down. He's round is this weekend while we're driving at Drift Matsuri, but I've got Emma and him filming a vlog. I think it's going to turn out great. But yeah, just put a prayer down in the comments for him. He needs it. Go send him a DM on Instagram. He's running around like crazy.
>> He's been raging all week. Like I've been here for like 2-3 days. Like he's working 14 hours a day. Like like this video It's his holiday YEAH, FOR HIS CAR. NO, FOR HIS CAR. Like this video for Daiki cuz that dude is a champion.
Like he's locked in. He is locked in.
It's awesome to see. He's going to do well, but I just told him I said like, "Don't worry about anything else. Just enjoy that you're there." Like that's the most important thing for him and try to relax this weekend for round one.
It's hard. It is hard. It's really >> to relax during competitions, especially after you've just like slaved away on your building stuff, but he'll do good.
He's a good guy.
>> great, especially now that he's got the normal knuckles back on. Yeah. All right, guys. We've been yapping. Like, comment, share, subscribe. We'll see you in the next one. Peace.
