Stephanie Han, a professional boxer and full-time El Paso police officer, demonstrates how personal challenges and family responsibilities can serve as powerful motivation for achieving professional success. Despite balancing her career as a police academy instructor with motherhood of two children, including a special needs daughter, she has achieved world championship status in boxing. Her journey illustrates that personal adversity and family obligations can transform into driving forces for excellence, showing that success in one field can coexist with dedication to another when approached with determination and support from one's community.

Stephanie Han Wants Katie Taylor’s Final Fight + Talks Holly Holm RematchAdded:
Stephanie getting ready to defend your lightweight belt against Holly Holm this weekend.
Look, I feel like you kind of had your way in the first fight. Do you feel like that's going to carry over into this rematch?
>> Obviously, I think Holly underestimated me the first fight. I think she thought she was just going to walk through me.
Her game plan didn't work last fight, so I know she's going to make those adjustments. And I know that she's going to bring it. She's going to be 100% this fight. So, I don't expect her to fight the same way.
But I expect it to be a fight and I expect it to be intense because I know that she wants to take my belt, obviously.
>> Yeah. What So, I mean, how do you know?
Do you think you'll find out in the early going that it's not going to be the same fight or you just automatically know going I don't know her game plan based on >> I don't know her game plan. Hopefully, I could read her mind, but I don't have that power.
But I hope obviously, I'm going to read her the first couple of rounds and see, you know, what she's doing. You know, that's how the the first rounds are usually are like you test them and to see what they do and how they react.
But I'm preparing for everything. So, it doesn't matter what happens. I'm going to fight my best fight and I I'm going to do whatever is necessary to retain my WBA world lightweight belt.
>> You had so much so much success with the right in the first fight. Obviously, I'm not asking your game plan, but you you feel like until she can prove that she can stop that, you just keep going to the well?
>> Yes, I'm going to prepare for every situation whether she's aggressive, whether she's defensive.
I'm just going to do what I do best and yeah, I I I don't anticipate it to be the first fight because it wasn't working. So, we'll see we'll see what happens. Obviously, we're all going to find out May 30th.
>> Yeah, you obviously winning that winning that fight kind of shoots you into the stratosphere of women's fighting and you're fighting for Jake Paul's most valuable promotion. So you're you're at that higher level already. What does a victory in this rematch mean to you and where do you see your career going from here?
>> Um I I know that I was underdog going into the first fight with Holly Holm.
They thought obviously Holly was going to take take the belt. So I already had the mentality like I'm already down entering the fight and I have to dominate and the same mentality doesn't change like I know Holly has such a big name for a reason. She's a legend. She's a champion for a reason.
But um I cannot lose in front of my people in my city of El Paso. So I've I've been giving 100% for this fight camp like always. I do this for every fight and hopefully I win this fight and hopefully I go for the other belts, fight other champions and continue to prove myself as a boxer.
>> Great. Great. You have so much on your plate. It's astounding to me. You you work function as a full-time El Paso police officer.
>> Yes, I'm a police officer with El Paso Police Department. I've been a police officer for 9 years with EPPD.
And I'm also a mother of two beautiful kids. My son is 11. My daughter is 8 years old. My daughter is actually special needs. But I have a amazing family and amazing support team so I would not be able to do it without their love and their support.
>> Yeah. Are you still doing you're not a patrol officer but you you're you perform in the training academy. Is that correct still?
>> Correct. I'm not patrol. Um I work as academy instructor at the police academy.
>> And so um do you incorporate like some combat sports uh disciplines or lessons to your to the people you're you're dealing with?
>> I was a use of force instructor.
We use boxing.
Um right now I've been switched to the admin side but I'm still I'm still involved and we still help at the academy with recruits and um the officers. Yes, sir.
>> Oh, that's great. Very fascinating. Um, and then being a parent too, like you said, you've got help uh, around the house, but still, I mean, that's mentally we all as parents, we know like it never that never leaves you. That's 24/7, right?
>> Absolutely. My kids are my life.
>> Yeah. How have you learned to balance it all?
>> Um, I feel like my kids definitely give me that extra motivation. You know, my daughter, like she has a a genetic syndrome. She's non-verbal. She can't walk. She can't talk. She's going to be dependent on me and my husband for the rest of her life. And um, she has seizures. And for me, that's like the scariest part cuz I have no control over that. Um, but obviously I just want to like her quality of life is being loved.
Like that girl is the most spoiled child in the whole wide world. Like she is loved by everybody and everyone has to spoil her because if not, then you're not worthy enough to be in her presence.
Um, but like I just want to this it's motivation because I want to give her the best life that I can and I want to be a champion and a role model for my son.
So, like I do everything for my family and it's I'm glad that I have them because it's like the mama power. Like I don't care what you do. It's extra motivation. Like I need to do this for my family.
>> Do you feel too that I mean, this may be too much, but do you feel like too when you're doing the right thing life like you're doing, I mean, in you know, securing the the safety of your local community, caring so so passionately for your children, going above and beyond with a special needs child you do everything the right way, you will be rewarded and justice, you know, uh, that's out there will be will be given to you?
>> Um, I do believe in karma. I I believe in just, you know, doing to others like how you would want to be done unto you, right? Um, I've always been taught with a lot of respect. My dad he's a martial arts instructor. So, it's always about respect in our home. Um, like our family's probably the most humble family and I I just want to be the best person I possibly can because I don't like being a hypocrite and I want to leave a good example for my my family, for my kids, for my community.
And that's always been me, that's always been my family's core values. So, I I really don't I'm not expecting anything in return. I'm just doing this because I feel better about myself in being a good person.
>> Let me go back to what I was asking you before about the repercussions of you winning this fight. One, I know you grew up watching Holly Holm fight. You actually saw Holm Rousey uh back in 2015, watch that fight.
>> Yes, I did.
Uh I'm a true Holly Holm fan. I'm so glad I got to meet Holly Holm like before the match in Puerto Rico because I had to get all those nerves and all the fangirl like um jitters out of the way because I'm a true fan of her. And um she's such a good person, too. Like she's a good human being, so I can't hate her. Like I don't hate her at all. I'm like I just want to win and then let's be friends after this fight, you know?
>> [laughter] >> Yeah. But if you win, I would think that the odds of a Holm Rousey rematch would be better if she wins this fight, but if you win, you kind of like forever end the possibility of Holm Rousey coming back to life. I'm not sure it's going to come back to life, but what do you think about that?
>> Well, we'll see. I I think that would be amazing. I I love seeing Rousey and Gina fight.
Um you know, Rousey is such a name. I think that you know, this is boxing sport. What they did was MMA. So, I feel like Holly and um Ronda Rousey, that'd be an amazing fight. I know I'd be watching it. So, why not, you know?
Yeah, totally different sports, they should do it. Um Ronda Rousey, she showed that she's one of the best with that 15-second armbar and why not fight Holly Holm in um avenge her loss and Holly get that exposure because she like solidified herself as a legend with that fight, you know?
>> Yeah, no doubt about it. You uh uh the other thing is, too, is that Katie Taylor still has another fight out there.
Could that be you? You Could you imagine you being the person that goes to Croke Park and That That would be That would be a dream come true. My um sister Jennifer Han, she's the reason why I box. I came back to boxing at 30 years old because of her, Jennifer. She was fighting Katie Taylor after her pregnancy.
Um it was after COVID, I came back to spar my sister so she could prepare for Katie Taylor. And that's when I realized, I'm like, oh, I could still I could still be a champion if I come back to boxing. So Katie Taylor in a sense, she pushed me back to go back pushed me to go back to boxing. And it would just be amazing to um end her career with that fight because she motivated me, she inspired me, and I would love to have the opportunity to be her last fight.
Great. Great. Well, Andy, you mentioned going to fighting in front of your all your people there in El Paso. What does this mean to you to be able to have this moment um that you've worked so hard your entire career for?
This is what dreams are all about. You know, I came back to boxing 5 years ago to be a world champion and um I became world champion and everything else like surpassed my expectations. I didn't intend for it to be this good, to be signed with Most Valuable Promotions, the best promotional company for women's boxing, to have a rematch against the legend Holly Holm in my city of El Paso, to have Amanda Serrano fighting on this card, and to have other world champions fighting on this card. It's like absolutely a dream come true. This is history for my city. I truly love my city, so I'm glad that El Paso is getting the exposure, um showing how beautiful the city is.
Great. Well, Stephanie, thank you so much for your time. I really really appreciate you. Best of luck this weekend, and we will be talking to you again soon, I'm sure. Thank you so much.
Thank you.
