Multiple Strong to Intense Tornadoes Expected Today (April 27, 2026) across C/SE MO and southern IL.

[00:00:00]Busy morning here on the SPC operations floor as we just upgraded to a moderate risk that level four out of five for a tornado threat later today across parts of the Midwest. Let's talk a little bit more about those details.

[00:00:12]Given just how busy things are behind me here this morning, I decided to step out here into the hallway to talk a little bit more about the threat. So, the greatest area in concern is across central Missouri into southern Illinois and into southeast Missouri. Within this zone, we have an extremely volatile environment expected later this afternoon. We could have multiple supercells capable of all hazards, including tornadoes, large hail, and wind gusts. Particularly on the tornado side, we're concerned where we could have multiple EF2 to potentially EF3 or even stronger tornadoes later today.

[00:00:41]We're going to be monitoring this closely, really from the middle part of the afternoon into the early evening hours. This includes areas such as St. Louis and other cities across southern Illinois into southeast Missouri. So, it's very important that everyone in this zone has multiple ways to receive watches and warnings later today.
