To prevent the clay from cracking or deforming during high temperature firing, craftsmen mixed a proportion of white sand into the local loess from Lishan. Using molds for mass production on an assembly line, the limbs, heads, arms, hands, ears, and basic facial contours were all pressed out using pre-made molds. The average height of a Terracotta Warrior is about 1.8 m, and they weigh up to 30 kg.
