I FOUND A MERMAID SPEARFISHING?! (Dolphins, Sharks, & Epic Catch and Cook) Big Island Life

[00:00:00][music] [music] [music] [music] >> What's up, everybody? Welcome back to another video of the Stonefish. Today, we are diving with brother Germ. Jeremy is from Oahu. He just moved over here to the Big Island, and I'm going to put his Instagram right here. Go check out his stuff. It's real cool. We're going to be diving some epic zones, so let's get right into it.

[00:01:19]>> [music] >> All right, guys. So, we're in the water.

[00:01:32]I'm taking my first drop right here.

[00:01:35]This first drop is to [music] just get the lungs warmed up.

[00:01:39]Kind of look around, see what's around.

[00:01:42]In that first clip, those were uh two flounders that I don't normally see.

[00:01:47]They're Hawaiian flounder, and it looked like one was a male and one was a female. That's just [music] what I'm assuming cuz of their different colors.

[00:01:55]Those are always pretty cool to find. I don't eat them just cuz they have so many bones, but >> [music] >> it's pretty cool to see them. So, I head back up to the surface and boom.

[00:02:07]>> [music] >> Couple dolphins swim through and I think it's just these guys.

[00:02:12]And then Woah!

[00:02:15]They scared the [ __ ] out of [music] me.

[00:02:17]They just circled me and Jeremy. And they kind of followed us around the whole dive.

[00:02:23]>> Yes, sir.

[00:02:24]>> [laughter] >> Then I turned I thought it was just those three. I turned I was like, "Oh!"

[00:02:28]>> I was like, "What are you dropping for, dude? I just see you all >> [laughter] >> [ __ ] yeah.

[00:02:35]>> Huh?

[00:02:36]>> Did you see them come by again?

[00:02:37]>> Dude, they scared the [ __ ] out of me again.

[00:02:39]>> [laughter] >> They're everywhere, man.

[00:02:42]>> So, today every Roy I see, I'm going to try and shoot because me and Nick are getting ready for a dive at Kailua Kona Bay where they shut down the whole bay to get rid of all [music] the invasive fish. Pretty cool tournament. That video will be coming out next week.

[00:02:58]And right after that, this [music] beautiful mermaid swims by. I've never seen a mermaid in the water before and this one is just absolutely [music] stunning. I don't want to get too close cuz I've heard they lure people into the sea and people never see them again.

[00:03:16]So, I see another Roy. You know what's about to happen. Boom.

[00:03:21]That guy is done. Another skeezer off [music] the reef.

[00:03:29]>> [music] >> You can see that little weight hanging off my cooley. That is a shark band.

[00:03:35]They call it the Zeppelin and that is how I always keep my catch. [music] I definitely recommend these things cuz they work, guys.

[00:03:44]>> [music] >> Hey, you dropped your phone.

[00:03:57]>> [laughter] >> I see this roi from the top right here and he goes under this ledge, so I slowly go down. I probably should have shot right now, but right as I'm about to pull the trigger, he swims off into this other cave.

[00:04:19]And I follow him. I think I'm [music] going to get the shot off and boom, he puts the jets on and swims [music] away.

[00:04:29]So, here's brother Germ taking a dive right here. I saw an omiu in this cave, so [music] sent him down. He's going down. It must have did before he got [music] down there.

[00:04:39]So, he's trying to call in some of these collies, but they swim away because these dolphins come back again.

[00:04:48]>> [music] [music] [music] >> Taking this drop right here to check out this cave right here to see if there's any alui's [music] or omiu's. I don't see any, but I do spot this taco right here, so I go down. I start tickling out the hole and get a hold of him. My camera angle was a little high, so sorry about that, guys, but you can kind of see him.

[00:05:32]>> [music] [music] [music] >> If you hold it, I ain't afraid of it.

[00:05:55]>> Yeah, I don't think I got him though.

[00:05:57]>> Like this?

[00:05:58]It's like way easier to braid them.

[00:06:00]>> Like that?

[00:06:02]>> You just grab them.

[00:06:04]So, you see how you have them like this?

[00:06:05]>> Yeah.

[00:06:06]>> If you grab [music] them like this, what they'll do is they'll instantly latch onto the straw.

[00:06:11]>> Oh.

[00:06:12]>> in your hand like this, and then it'll give like a perfect braid spot right here.

[00:06:19]>> [laughter] >> Boom.

[00:06:25]>> Yeah, I'm throwing it and coming out. I just grab them like this with my hand now.

[00:06:28]>> Shoot.

[00:06:29]Look at Yeah, I've never been the best at top water fishing or anything.

[00:06:32]>> soon as you grab them [music] like that, it's like everything just goes so easy.

[00:06:35]>> Yeah.

[00:06:40]>> [music] [music] >> So, right there I was doing some spinning [music] with the dolphins.

[00:06:54]They spun, so I spun, and I cut the camera off, but they came back around, and it was almost like we were interacting. Every time I would [music] spin, they would spin. It was pretty cool.

[00:07:05]So, I'm coming down here to check another cave, and nobody is home.

[00:07:12]So, I decided to swim through it, kind of get some coverage, throw some grunts out, scratch a little bit, but I am just not seeing anything. But, this cave is so cool, I don't even care that there weren't any fish in it. [music] >> [music] >> He's in the baffle now.

[00:07:39]>> [music] >> I think I see a couple of moves in there, too.

[00:07:43]>> So, as I was coming up, I saw another omilu and another hole. So, Jeremy goes [music] down to check it out and he must have dipped again. These guys are super smart. They must see us coming.

[00:07:56]But, we're not going to stop. I'm going down to check another cave. I kind of creep up on the side like this, so he can't see me coming.

[00:08:05]And I'm looking around and I don't see him, [music] but I do see this nice moohu and a little 3-lb moo.

[00:08:13]So, [music] I start moving my gun to this moohu right here and he knows what's up and starts taking off. [music] So, I kind of swim after him under this cave, but he is already out of there.

[00:08:28]>> [music] >> Should have pulled a shot on a nice moohu.

[00:08:35]>> Oh, I thought I saw something in [music] there.

[00:08:37]>> Yeah, I saw a moohu in there.

[00:08:39]>> Oh, yeah.

[00:08:41]>> I got a little 3-lb moo.

[00:08:42]>> [music] >> Oh, a dolphin's just cruising right there.

[00:08:47]>> [music] >> Will he leave us alone?

[00:08:52]>> So, we keep swimming and right there, guys, I don't know if you can see the shadow of him, but there's a huge omilu in that cave.

[00:08:58]>> Oh, those are omilu.

[00:09:00]>> So, I called Jeremy over, tell him to take the drop on him, but by the time he gets there, this guy is already [music] out of there. You can see Jeremy's dropping behind the entrance to kind of sneak up on him >> [music] >> and yeah, he just said he didn't see him, so he must have dipped out the back door.

[00:09:20]>> [music] >> I see some moos right here, so I decided to take a drop and bring my taco down there. So, the current is absolutely [music] ripping right here, so I'm having to hold on while I dust and throw this taco out. And you can see the moos [music] are definitely interested. They start coming in right here, taking a look at this taco. They're like, "What [music] is that? That looks delicious."

[00:09:45]So, I'm waiting.

[00:09:47]And again, I'm having [music] to almost kick the whole time to fight this current. And I take a launch out at this moo. Shoot, and I miss.

[00:09:58]>> [music] [music] >> So, after I miss, Jeremy goes down to take a shot at the moos. But after I shot, it spooked them. And I try and take another drop. And right here, you can see my float line is just moving because the current is absolutely ripping. So, we decide to swim out, bust out the flasher, look for some uhus. The current wasn't as bad out there. And as we're swimming out, I see this nice blue uhu out there, and I am feening for some baked uhu. So, I line up the shot. I think I get him, but I just nick the top of him.

[00:10:37]These guys have really hard heads. So, it almost looks like it sticks [music] right there, but then it rips out. But that guy will recover. Minor injury for him.

[00:10:47]So, we're out here at around 75-80 ft.

[00:10:50][music] I take this drop right here, and kind of drop on the wrong spot. I kind of look up [music] too early on this ledge. And now, I'm just floating down.

[00:10:59]And I see this roi, and then I see [music] this dozer kali right here. I mean, this is the biggest kali I've seen in a while, and he just dips.

[00:11:09]I don't know what spooked him. I didn't make any fast movements. So, that was definitely sad.

[00:11:15]>> [music] >> Yeah, a 4-5 lb kali came right up to me.

[00:11:19]And he just spooked for some reason.

[00:11:21]>> [music] >> So, we start cutting up some rois, and immediately, these two Galapagos just swarm us. And we tried sticking around for a bit, but decided to move out because they just kept eating all the chum. [music] And on the swim in, I seen this nice school of horas down at the bottom. So, I try and take a drop on them nice and slow.

[00:11:44]And [music] as I get closer right here, they definitely know what's up, and I can just tell that they are not going to let me get close. So, I decide to head on out.

[00:11:56]Yeah.

[00:11:57]>> [music] >> I love making fishcakes out of them. So good.

[00:12:02]So, we are on our way in now, taking drops the whole way in. I [music] get down here at the bottom, start dusting, grunting, and I see two nice collie start [music] coming in right here.

[00:12:17]So, I'm waiting, looking [music] behind me to see if an uku's coming behind me.

[00:12:22]Not today. Didn't see any ukus today.

[00:12:24][music] But this collie comes in, and I take a little longer shot, and [music] I miss.

[00:12:32]So, after that miss, I am here for revenge. I spotted a couple collies from the top, so I get down to the bottom, start dusting, scratching, and I'm really going to take my time here, line up this shot. I do not want to miss.

[00:12:49]Boom. Lights out.

[00:12:51]>> [music] [music] >> After that collie, I spot this dozer of a roi hiding underneath this rock, and I know he's [music] just doing all kinds of damage on this reef. So, I take him out.

[00:13:13]>> [music] [music] [music] >> So, this is the last drop of the day, guys.

[00:13:31]I spot [music] a big roi in the background. I'm just seeing if he'll come in and I see this collie come in, too, but he's [music] a little small, so we're going to let him grow.

[00:13:40]Hoping that one of his friends might come by.

[00:13:43]So I start [music] swimming towards this roi over here.

[00:13:47]And then I see >> [music] >> this oohu right here.

[00:13:51]And I consider it, but decide he's a little [music] small, too. We're going to let him grow. And then I see this mermaid again. And it looks [music] like she lost her top.

[00:14:03]Oh, happy 1 year, Cara.

[00:14:06][ __ ] >> [laughter] >> [ __ ] yeah, dogs.

[00:14:14]We'll fry that guy up.

[00:14:16][ __ ] yeah.

[00:14:28]>> [laughter] >> This? Yeah, and you just kind of go along it.

[00:14:39]And then turn around.

[00:14:42]And then kind of like cut like on the top here. And try not to cut like in the tail, you know, kind of keep it up.

[00:14:55]And then you just [ __ ] [ __ ] yeah, just grab the tail, rip and twist and pull slowly. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
