Newly Weaned Suffolk Lambs Out To Pasture追加:
Welcome to Utopia Farms, where today we're going to release the newly weaned Suffolk lambs onto pasture. Let's see how they do.
Here's what you can expect today. Hey, so these sheep have never been outside.
Look at this guy in the middle.
Going outdoors is a scary thing for them. There's green grass out there and they're afraid to step on it.
So, let's see how they do. Okay, so these sheep have never been outside in the back anywhere. They've been a little bit out in the barnyard, but we're going to see if we can coax them to go out onto the green grass. See what they think of that.
So, we'll go to the front and try chase them all up.
They got a lot more freedom now that moms aren't here.
They have way more space to get exercise and eat at the feeders.
Come on, you guys. Let's get them up.
>> [screaming] >> Come on.
Let's see what the others are doing.
Moms aren't here to get uh milk from, so there's a lot of competition at the water drinkers.
Oh my goodness, you're beautiful.
Look at this guy in the middle.
So nice.
Hey, buddies.
Come on.
Come on.
>> [groaning] >> Come on.
>> [screaming] >> Whoops, they're all getting away on you.
Come on, buddy.
Come on.
>> [screaming] [screaming] >> Almost all out of the barn.
Because they're used to being indoors, going outdoors is a scary thing for them until they get used to it.
And then it's a stampede to get out.
Look at them. There's green grass out there and they're afraid to step on it.
Look at that. The gate's open there.
Come on, you guys.
I'll just shut the gate for a second.
Max, come on.
>> [screaming] >> There they go.
Once one goes, they all go.
Come on, Ben. Max.
Come on.
You can do it. You can do it.
Come on, it's not so scary.
Come on.
Oh my goodness.
Come on.
>> [laughter] >> Let's go. Let's go.
Come on, Ben. Max.
Come on.
Come on, big guy.
Come on. Come on.
Come on. Come on out there. Come on, you can do it. It's not scary stuff.
>> [groaning] >> You're free. Let's get going.
>> [groaning] >> Ben. Max. Come on.
>> [screaming] >> Come on. Come on.
>> [screaming] >> Get out. Come on. Come on.
Come on.
Come on.
Come on.
Ben. Max.
Okay, got them all out.
They don't want to go somewhere strange.
And although they've looked out the curtains at grass, oh, that gate must be up. Okay.
One went on the other side.
And meanwhile, Arnie's trying to get these curtains locked up.
One One's on the other side of the gate, doesn't realize how to get out.
Come on, Ben.
Max, come here.
Come on.
There we go.
They should begin to love it.
But right now, it's a just a terrifying ordeal.
That's what you call a lamb cluster.
>> [groaning] [groaning] >> Now, these are lamb races.
Come on. Hurry up.
Of course, being with Arnie is their favorite part.
Now, you get to see their uh big rumps and their perfect heads when they come the other way. Fly, babies, fly.
How about seeing that in slow motion now?
>> [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> They're going to sleep well tonight.
I think they're getting tired.
Are you guys getting tired?
They're a little out of breath now.
>> [screaming] [screaming] >> Hi, you're very nice.
You're very nice.
>> [screaming] >> That's a bruiser.
>> [screaming] >> While we've been looking at the lambs playing, I mean managed to get the curtains locked up into the roof, which means they stay locked open for the rest of the season until winter rolls in again, but we won't mention that word [clears throat] cuz it's barely just left us.
>> [screaming] >> This guy here is a big guy.
And this guy here Oh, you're a big boy. You're missing your mom.
Oh my goodness, you're a big girl.
>> [screaming] >> Hi girls.
>> [groaning and screaming] >> You can't believe it, there's actually mosquitoes out here.
Hi, you're pretty girl.
>> [screaming] >> Hi.
Oh, you're nice.
Aren't you a nice boy?
>> [groaning] [screaming] [screaming] [screaming] [groaning and screaming] >> Hi buddy.
>> [screaming] >> You're a little sad.
I'd be shocked if that big guy wasn't from Luther.
Luther's got British in his bloodlines, but he's also got really large sheep in his bloodlines.
So, a lot of the Luthers have a lot of muscling, but they can get a little uh large some of them.
>> [music] >> This guy's missing here.
Hi buddies.
Here's some more Britishy styled ram.
Hi sweetheart.
How are you doing? You're my buddy.
These two really, really nice rams together here.
Especially this guy.
Woohoo!
>> [screaming] >> Nobody's really eating the grass at all.
Uh they have no idea what the grass is.
This guy here is probably one of my favorites. Hi buddy.
Hi, you're beautiful.
I guess you're a Luther because you look like Luther.
But he has a better topline than Luther.
>> [groaning] >> There is They're making a lot of noise because one, they have no idea what they're doing out here and it's a little stressful, even though the running was fun.
And number two, this is their first day without their moms.
Hi.
Hi there.
Oh, this guy I really, really like. This looks like it could be more of a legend sheep.
This guy in the back.
Back over here.
That face. That's a nice head.
In my opinion.
You're looking for those droopy ears with the little flick on the tip.
Hi buddy.
>> Well, snap.
Been a few weeks since I've been back here.
Ah, we're supposed to be in some nasty weather right now, which I'm not complaining about.
But, I think we're almost ready to start planting corn.
But, we're here for one reason only.
And I'm going to show you why.
So, don't leave the channel. Don't be bored. Just give me 2 3 minutes of my conversation.
And I'll show you what we're looking at.
So, that is my new seeding.
Pretty nice row of new seeding.
Can't complain about that.
I hate to walk on it.
But, looks extremely good.
There's a little bit of orchard grass.
It's right there.
But, yeah, can't complain about that.
That's a That's extremely good catch of grass seed.
So, the reason why it doesn't look so good over here is because that's just uh the stubble of the barley.
Cuz we cut the barley off halfway.
So, if you go over here, it's just as good as ever.
Yeah, extremely extremely happy with that.
So, that should turn out really well.
Be some extremely good feed for the sheep.
And then, like I said, this was seeded at 22 lb an acre.
So, what that What he did here was he just lift the head up cuz he didn't want to cut off the new seeding. All we were doing is looking for the barley uh 1 ton an acre. Wasn't a high yield, but 1 ton on 20 acres or whatever it was is uh 20 ton.
>> [clears throat] >> Excuse me.
So, that's why there's a little bit of uh barley stubble there. Uh that will just go into the bale of the hay. It'll be fine.
And there there was the tire marks for the combine right there.
Nope, really happy with that.
And this is I think this was 80% pure of alpha with 15% grasses.
And you can see the grasses in there a little bit.
So, it'll be uh It'll be extremely hard to dry this stuff. This stuff will This This hay will never be dry. It It will have to go into a wet form.
So, I'm not really happy with the wet hay.
But, we are going to try it. And we are going to do something different with the plastic this year. So, hopefully that's going to work a little better.
But, yeah, it's been a couple weeks since I've been back here.
And I'm extremely happy with it.
It's always nice to see a a good re- good return or a good for the all the work you put into it.
So, th- this side here was beans last year, and that's the new seeding.
And look at that, just like a ruler.
I think every seed germinated.
Yeah, really happy with that. So, you can see the the the trees are just starting to bud out right now.
It's been quite cool.
But, you can see the ground starting to dry up a little bit.
So, I think as soon as we have some sunny days, we're going to start planting corn.
It'll be the first week of May, which is quite early.
Cuz uh you can still get a frost in the end of May.
And if the corn comes up too high, uh this is a great low area in here. You can actually get a a frost in here.
So, I'm not going to really jump the gun too hard.
But, I might start working all the field just to tear the fields loose one trip.
Just to get them prepared for planting corn.
It's getting darker and darker because we're supposed to be in a rain day today.
So, I just opened the gate because inevitably our sheep, when it starts to rain, it's a mad dash for home.
So, now all the lambs can eat off the main feeder without having to battle with their moms for feed or space.
Hi, buddy.
You're really nice.
Hi.
I like that guy. I can't see what number he is.
Hi. How you doing?
I think he's one of the nicest short guys.
No dip in his back or anything.
Can't see his number, though. Want to see where they all COME FROM, MAN.
IT might be 77. Hi.
Are you 77?
Y- Your mom didn't like you that much, I remember.
I don't really see a lot.
So, these are the ones WE JUST WEANED OFF UH 24 HOURS AGO.
And they're hungry.
Even Mr. Monster there.
So, we'll get these guys fed.
They look like they're starving.
Got a big guy there.
And the Dorsets.
They're a good ram.
Good rams.
So, we'll get these guys fed.
And we'll get on with it.
>> [screaming] [groaning] [groaning] >> Look at that guy.
>> [groaning] >> A lot of nice uh sheep in this pen, and this is the group of the younger lambs from the second group.
And these are the ones that we just weaned in the first group.
So, Got a few lambs right over here.
They're not worried about the coyotes, I guess. Come on, you guys.
Come on, you guys. Pay attention a little bit.
What?
It's actually You can hardly see out here, it's so black. Come on, Bub. Come on.
There's a whole bunch out here.
The sun is practically gone.
Yeah, these guys have no worry about danger, eh?
Come on, you guys.
Get off that debris pile. Come There's a few out here.
I think they're all in now.
Come on, you guys.
Come on, you guys.
Come on. Ben, shut up. Ben.
Lie down.
Stop doing it.
Come on, you guys.
Ben, stop doing that.
Come on.
So, we're giving them a bale of hay to eat more hay tonight, so.
Hey, shush.
Just shook the hay up a little bit for tonight.
These guys are doing fine.
So, they'll have most of all that gone in the morning, and we'll give them a new bale in the morning.
And these guys These guys are They're weaned off uh This is the second day, but they're actually quite quiet, so. They got over it quite quickly.
But yeah, they're quite heavy lambs, really heavy. I think I think it's the best lambs we've ever had this year.
Should be happy with the with the outcome of it all.
So.
>> [groaning] >> Anyways.
So.
That's it for Utopia Farms.
Support the channel, please. It means a lot to us to keep it all going.
>> [groaning] >> Cuz Lynn says uh Lynn says there's only a small portion of people subscribe to the channel. Most people are not subscribing to the channel. So, it helps us a lot to keep this channel going if uh people support it. So, thanks for supporting the channel, whoever's supporting it. And hopefully we have new supporters supporting it.
And on that note, we're going to call it a day, and we'll see what happens tomorrow.
So, good night.
