Motor Swap on Cub Cadet SRC Forward Drive Push Mower

[00:00:02]Couple weeks ago I did a video on this Cub Cadet SRC 621 lawnmower. Try to get it running, but the damage is already done. They ran it last fall with gas and oil and it pretty much shelled out the inside of the engine.

[00:00:17]They're going to He's going to take this home and throw in the dump, so I have to buy it from So, I think I paid like $10 for the lawnmower.

[00:00:25]I'm going to try to repower it with something else to get this thing back in the lawnmowing again, cuz this is too nice of a deck to be thrown away. So, hope you enjoy the video. Okay, I unhooked the rope grip from the handlebars and we got to take that flywheel brake cable off before we go underneath and take the blade and the bolts off to hold the motor on. So, I need a pair of pliers.

[00:00:56]You just on these cables there's two little little fins there. You just squeeze them together.

[00:01:04]Like that to pull it out of the hole.

[00:01:08]We're done with all these cables, so we'll put this on the new motor.

[00:01:13]Okay, let's go ahead and lift this thing up and look underneath of it. I don't even think I've even put the blade back on it. So, probably don't even have a blade on it.

[00:01:23]Yeah, I never put the blade I took the cuz I put a new blade on it last time it was here.

[00:01:30]And I found out the motor was shot, so I took the new blade back off. That's why the blade ain't on there. Now, we got to take this tub off. Looks like it's missing a couple bolts on it. Feels like it's packed full of grass, too.

[00:01:50]I don't know how that self-propelled even worked on it with all this grass in Pull the blade hub off.

[00:02:01]So, if we got to grab the light see what I'm doing under here.

[00:02:04]Look at all that grass that was packed up in there. It's just crazy.

[00:02:10]I don't that cable somehow.

[00:02:21]Make sure I don't lose no springs and stuff here.

[00:02:33]I like a variable speed thing.

[00:02:36]This thing here tightens up and it pushes on that and makes the makes it different speeds. That's kind of neat.

[00:02:49]Just make sure I don't lose none of this stuff here.

[00:03:12]I remember to put all that back in the same spot. All right, that looks nice and clean now.

[00:03:19]Looks like I got to take this back tire off over here cuz there's a there's a bolt right here holding this plastic shroud on.

[00:03:30]Looks like a Phillips.

[00:03:33]That's for the self propel, so we got to be careful so I don't I don't break nothing there.

[00:03:38]Looks like a 7/16.

[00:03:49]And we got a Phillips Phillips screw right there we've got to take out.

[00:03:55]There we go.

[00:03:57]Now we can take that to the garbage can and dump all this >> [snorts] >> grass out. There's a lot of lot of clippings stuck under there. Weighs a lot less now, too. This other side is broke off where that Phillips screw was over here, so I'm going to find a way to hold that side up in there. So, let's unbolt this motor now.

[00:04:21]And that looks like a half inch. You're going to have to use a deep well for them two brackets over there.

[00:04:32]HOLD ON TO THAT.

[00:04:35]HOLD ON TO THE SHAFT so the motor don't slip out of there.

[00:04:46]And I'm going to go ahead and take before I junk out this motor, I'm going to take the recoil off, carburetor, stuff that I might use on another motor like that, save the customer some money.

[00:05:01]We're going to go back to a good old-fashioned Briggs & Stratton engine.

[00:05:05]This PTO shaft is the same as the as the other one.

[00:05:12]I got a bunch of these motors, 550 series motors. I bought I don't I can't remember.

[00:05:19]Like a dozen of these a year ago. They must have been on a crate or something.

[00:05:22]The crate collapsed or fell down cuz a lot of the a lot of the covers for the air filters were missing and gas caps were broke and stuff like that. And as you can see on there, there's a big scuff mark right here.

[00:05:40]They're good motors, but this missing a few parts and they were dirt cheap. I couldn't turn it down.

[00:05:47]Couldn't turn it down one bit, so I bought all they had. That's going to look nice on there. Okay, so I'm going to pick it up a little bit and start a bolt, then we can lift it back up and finish bolting it on and get all that variable speed pulley stuff back on. Now, I got to lift it up just a little bit, so I can get one bolt started before we tip it up higher.

[00:06:28]Okay, now we got to put all that variable speed stuff back on.

[00:06:34]This little washer went on first.

[00:06:40]And then Pretty sure that's how it went.

[00:07:07]I'm going to take the little pulley off the side that adjust that cable, I think.

[00:07:44]Uh I got to put that I'll lower it down so you can see what I took off.

[00:07:50]A little black pulley there.

[00:07:53]I loose it up to take that cable off that.

[00:08:12]All right.

[00:08:17]Now we got to put that Phillips screw back in over here.

[00:08:22]I got to figure out what to use on the other side cuz that's totally missing on the other side.

[00:08:30]Now we put that tire back on.

[00:08:34]>> [panting] >> And that's 7/16.

[00:08:52]I guess that fits in there tight.

[00:08:55]Okay, let's put the spacer in and the spring washer.

[00:09:08]>> [snorts] >> And we're going to put a new blade on there.

[00:09:44]>> All right, getting closer.

[00:09:46]I got to figure out I don't know I should put a bolt or something in that corner.

[00:09:52]Seems tight but Okay, the golf table put some nice premium gas in there.

[00:09:59]See what it does.

[00:10:15]Now that's a refurbished in a lawn mower, you know that deck was way too nice to get thrown away. You know, the way the way mowers are priced nowadays are just so high and they're not built they're not built like they are back in the day. So, probably give it to somebody that needs a lawn mower and they'll have a nice lawn mower last them for years on end. So, hopefully you enjoyed the video. Appreciate you watching.
