Tropical weather systems in the Pacific Ocean are monitored by meteorological agencies like the National Hurricane Center, which assesses development probability based on environmental conditions; high pressure systems can weaken trade winds and influence local weather patterns, while tropical cyclones in the eastern Pacific may develop into named storms like Tropical Storm Amanda, though they typically remain far from Hawaii's main islands.

First Alert Forecast: Slightly weaker trade winds expected this weekendAdded:
All righty, aloha everybody.
Meteorologist Drew Davis coming to you with a a live update on the HNN streaming app. Uh we've got a really nice weekend ahead. I want to walk you through what we're tracking out out there. Uh excuse me. Uh we've got a a couple of things that I want to walk you through. The main thing is we've got a high surf advisory up on south-facing shores.
Uh large south swells are moving in.
It's going to be around throughout the weekend. A reinforcing swell is going to be moving in as we're going into Monday and Tuesday. Lighter trades also expected this weekend. It can get a little bit weaker going into Sunday and Monday. Wouldn't be surprised if we see sea breezes developing throughout Monday.
Along a few pop-up showers potentially over leeward and interior areas. And also tropical activity starting out in the eastern Pacific Ocean. Here's a graphic you probably haven't seen in a while. We are tracking the tropics out there. The National Hurricane Center is monitoring area that they've given an 80% chance for development out in the eastern Pacific Ocean. This area that's highlighted in red.
80% chance over the next 7 days. And over the 2-day forecast it is only a 0% chance. So again, let's just walk through to show you what what's expected. This storm is not going to impact us. This is going to stay way out in the eastern Pacific Ocean. This is the European weather model. You can actually see it falls apart before even crossing into the central Pacific basin, which is 140° west. This red Excuse me, this red line that you can see out here.
Excuse me, guys. I um seem to have a frog in my throat.
A I've been trying to hold back a cough today.
So I apologize for coughing. It's live TV. So. But again, this this system you can see is going to develop likely going to be the first tropical cyclone of the the season. If it reaches tropical storm strength, it will become Tropical Storm Amanda in the eastern Pacific Ocean out there. So, it's just a reminder that we've got to be prepared. This one's not going to impact us, but it is still a something just a reminder that we are entering hurricane season. June 1st, first day of hurricane season in the central Pacific. It's only a few days away. It's already hurricane season in the eastern Pacific. That officially starts on May 15th. Let's go back to our local forecast, our island by island forecast out there.
Isolated showers over on Kauai, mostly sunny. Few sprinkles possible windward and Molokai.
85 in town tomorrow, pretty warm out there. 79 in Kaneohe, a few sprinkles possible in Kaneohe tomorrow and Kailua.
Mostly focused in the mountains, however. Mostly sunny and breezy in Maui County. 84 and 84 in Kahului and Kihei.
Breezy out there, wind gusts in the afternoon getting closer to 20 to 25 mph.
Sunny in Kailua-Kona.
82 in Hilo, scattered showers, partly sunny conditions. The northern portions of Hawaii Island will be mostly sunny with some gusts getting closer to 20 mph.
Here's the details on our surf and shoreline forecast. South-facing shores are on 8 to 12. That reinforcing swell's going to be moving in Monday into Tuesday, likely extending the high surf advisory a little bit further in time. I could see it also being taken down late Sunday and then they put it back up Monday.
Uh so, just a heads-up about that.
Breezy trades also in the forecast.
Right now, we're seeing winds It's right before 9:00 p.m. 8:40 technically. 10 to 15 mph winds out there. Some moisture riding in along the trades. See those showers out there. Most of the rainfall is going to be in the overnight to early morning, drying out each afternoon. Now, our 7-day forecast, nothing's really changing. No big changes. Lighter trades expected Sunday uh Saturday into Sunday. Warm out there, 85 for a high on Saturday, 86 on Sunday.
Potentially getting to 87 on Wednesday, which is a pretty pretty warm high.
Um we're we're in summertime. We're in full summertime mode. We've got trade winds, warm weather, windward and mauka showers, and now we're watching hurricane season and a south swell. So, everything's everything's pointing towards summertime here in Hawaii. The dry season's coming up.
Uh it's already technic It feels like the dry season that we're that we're in right now. So, uh that's about it. That's all I have for this uh this live update, an impromptu episode of The Drew Point.
Uh thanks for tuning in, and have a wonderful rest of your evening, everybody.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Goodbye.
