Wavering temperatures and lingering chances of storms round out the end of May

[00:00:00]Well, if you've been out and about today, you know we have a very warm Wednesday on our hands across the Treasure Valley, especially compared to what we'll call a refreshing Tuesday with the much cooler conditions in place yesterday. This is our 24-hour temperature change map. So, the numbers you see are how much warmer or cooler where you see negative numbers, how much warmer or cooler we are compared to this moment 24 hours ago. So, at 6:18 yesterday, we were 21° cooler than we are right now.

[00:00:30]warmer today, that means we're at 84 in Boise right now, 78 in Twin Falls, even over in Idaho Falls, sitting in the low 80s across the entire Northwest. We are seeing warmer air enter the picture courtesy of this area of low pressure that has just been kind of spinning its wheels for the last 24 hours or so over Central Nevada. It is pinwheeling warm, moist air from the south up into Southern Idaho and Southern Oregon. Look at this band of storms. This looks to be a convergence zone, much like what set up yesterday over portions of the Magic Valley and the Central Mountains. You can see these orange polygons. I believe that's right around Klamath Falls.

[00:01:05]Multiple severe thunderstorm warnings there. Now, luckily, our neck of the woods, the severe storm we had earlier up around Cascade, has fizzled out.

[00:01:13]We're just seeing some spot showers right now. Not anticipating much more activity tonight, but over the next few days, we keep those daily rain and storm chances in play as that system that's been so stubbornly sitting to our south on Friday and into the weekend starts lifting its way northward. being steered by another trough of low pressure off to the northwest of us. That will bring cooler air into the picture on Saturday.

[00:01:36]It will keep thunderstorm chances going, especially in the mountains. Coverage for the Treasure Valley will be low. I think Saturday to kick off the weekend, cooler temperatures and blustery winds will be the bigger headline. Then finally on Sunday and into early next week, this system will finally move all the way to the north, and that will allow high pressure to start building in as we kick off June on Monday. But in the meantime, if you're headed to the mountains, I know this is camping season. The unofficial start to summer was Memorial Day. You can see on Friday into Saturday, pretty decent chance of isolated thunderstorms, hit-or-miss showers, and 100% chance of cooling temperatures. We're into the 50s in the mountains by Saturday. Again, Treasure Valley, coverage will be lower than that, but can't rule out a spot shower or storm, especially Friday into Saturday. Big headline for tomorrow, we stay nice and warm, but those winds will pick up in the afternoon, gusting up to 30 mph out of the south. But, that southerly flow will again take us into warmer than average territory. We'll land in the mid-80s in Boise tomorrow with some cloud cover overhead at times, which could drop a spot sprinkle, maybe a stray thunderstorm tomorrow. But, again, storm chances tomorrow compared to today and yesterday and Monday are lower. So, as far as our temperatures go in the morning, because of the cloud cover, pretty comfy mid-50s across the Treasure Valley early on. We will warm to the mid-80s across the Treasure Valley tomorrow, low 80s in the Magic Valley, and mid-70s in the mountains.

[00:02:56]So, outside of that storm threat, a really nice Thursday. Then, we cool on Friday, cool even further Saturday, landing in the low 70s as we kick off the weekend. But, by Sunday, [music] we start warming up again, mid-70s with sunshine, a picture-perfect end to May, then [music] hot to kick off June, back up to 90 by next Wednesday. We'll be right back.
