[00:00:19]Three possibilities. One, intelligent life is extremely rare.

[00:00:23]Two, civilizations don't survive long.

[00:00:26]Three, we're listening for the wrong thing for far too short a time. Here's the thing, human [music] radio signals have only reached about 100 light years.

[00:00:33]On galactic scales, that's nothing. A cosmic whisper in a galaxy 100,000 light years wide.

[00:00:40]So, the silence may not mean we're alone.

[00:00:42]It may mean we've barely started listening.
