Pan-Slavism was a European movement that aimed to unite Slavic peoples politically, culturally, and sometimes as one nation, encouraging Slavic nations like Russia, Ukraine, and Serbia to support each other. This movement created significant tension between existing empires, particularly Austria-Hungary, which was a multi-ethnic empire. When Serbia sought to join Bosnia (which was part of Austria-Hungary), Austria-Hungary feared that allowing this would trigger independence movements among its other ethnic groups, potentially ending the empire. This tension between Pan-Slavic aspirations and the preservation of multi-ethnic empires was a key factor in the escalating conflicts that led to World War I.

Pan-Slavism and the start of WW1本站添加:
Pan-Slavism was a movement in Europe that aimed to unite Slavic people. It encouraged Slavic nations like Russia, Ukraine, and Serbia to support each other.
Many Slavs living inside empires like Austria-Hungary also supported this idea.
The goal was unity, politically, culturally, and sometimes even as one nation. But, this movement created tension between countries that already existed.
It played a role in increasing conflict across Europe before World War I.
Our story starts with one of the Slavic countries called Serbia.
Serbia believed in Pan-Slavism.
They wanted to join with a region called Bosnia. The problem was that Bosnia was part of another country called Austria-Hungary. Austria-Hungary was made up of many different races of people.
If Austria-Hungary let Bosnia join Serbia, then many other races of people within Austria-Hungary might also try and want independence.
That would result in the end of Austria-Hungary.
Austria-Hungary could not let this happen.
